Problem with stroke shifting rectangles location.

I am on a mac-system 10.5.8 and using Illustrator 5. I have created an RGB document using the Web VGA pre-set. When I stroke a rectangle it actually shifts .5 pixels on both the x and y axis. This doesn't seem to happen with the Print pre-set. Any ideas?

That is, if you are sure you want the rectangle off whole pixels, Nielsen.
If you do, you may consider changing the default setting for Web VGA setting, or it will happen with the next document, too. They made the Align to Pixel Grid to make it easy to have images adapted to whole pixels.

If no good reason, such as the one suggested by Silkrooster, is present, you may try the list, hoping for one of the easy ones at the top.
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file, and when it is not caused by issues with opening a file from external media. You may have tried/done some of them already; 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
If possible/applicable, you should save current artwork first, of course.
1) Close down Illy and open again;
2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to at least 5 times);
3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible), for CS3 - CC you may find the folder here:

5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);

6) Uninstall (ticking the box to delete the preferences), run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

Problem with tilt shift effect

I have the latest version of Elements 12 and have just started to experiment with the Tilt-Shift Guided Effect. The problem I'm having is that when I try to change the area of focus, nothing much seems to change in the picture. Sometimes it seems like the original in-focus area stays in place and I can make small changes elsewhere in the picture.
I was wondering if anyone else was having a problem with Tilt-Shift?

I think I verified what I was seeing in Guided Mode by going to Expert Mode after trying to alter the focus area. In expert mode I found a mask for the blur layer - and what I saw were 2 gradients rather than just one. One of the gradients in the mask was where Elements put the default in-focus area, and the second gradient in the mask was where I tried to move the in-focus area to. I was expecting to find one gradient on the mask, but instead there were two. Are others observing this same behavior? Thanks.

Problems with stroke thickness

Hi, I'm having a problem with my stroke tool setting in Illustrator CS5. When I try to use 0.5 for the stroke thickness I get
something literally 3 times the size of THIS . So, I was wondering what I could be doing wrong, because I know that it's not supposed to
turn out like that.

Problems with http header "Content-Location"

Does anyone know how to override the
"Content-Location" http header. We are having issues with search engines and this header being returned from Apache/oc4j. In a nutshell, I have a site that uses the
Struts framework, where the actual urls submitted would be for example
(http://mysite/home.do), where ".do" is just a servlet mapping. When we have
tried to follow the one link that has been spidered, it actually contains
the full path that appears in the "Content-Location" header (i.e.
http://mysite/web-inf/jsps/bogus.jsp) which in this case can't even be
accessed. The feedback we get from third-party utilities that try to spider
the site is that it is stopping because it has already indexed "bogus.jsp",
which in reality will always appear since it is a template, where the actual
urls will be different as is above.
Because the "Content-Location" header is being returned to any
client hitting the site, search engine spiders stop indexing at the first page because the value in "Content-Location" is the same.
Solutions tried:
mod_headers in Apache - have tried "Header unset"
HttpServletResponse.setHeader()
Any help would be appreciated

i'm having a similar problem to this when trying to run some web page speed optimisation software...
i think the issue also causes problems with the Opera browser (although this may have been fixed in the latest version).
anybody any ideas how to stop the header being sent in the response?

Problem with margins shifting when printing.

I have an installation template on an 11x17 sheet with 3/8” margins. There is a “left” and “right” version on each side (basically mirrored) and the intent is that they align front to back when you hold the sheet up to the light. When we print a proof, two sided, on our laser printer, the drawings match when the single sheet is held up to the light, but the margins are no longer the same; each is offset by a 1/16” in the same direction. BUT when you print one sided on our printer and hold the 2 sheets back to back, the drawings are off by 1/8” because the margins are off by the 1/16' in different directions. This creates a problem when it is sent to the commercial printers as they are printing single sided to their printing plates. (The problem still appears in the exported PDF file the printers use)
The problem is, I can’t get InDesign to stop shifting the content on the page that 1/16”!
If I look at the page, the margin guides show the correct 3/8”on both sides.
If I look at the Master page, the margin guides show the correct 3/8”on both sides.
Under “Margins and Columns” in InDesign, I found the correct margins set (0.375 - 3/8”) all around, with 1 column and a 0.1667” Gutter. Ha .. I thought I had found it! So I removed the Gutter and checked “Enabled Layout”, But when printed, same problem.
I then though it must be on the master pages and found and did the same thing as above, still no luck!
Then I created a new master page and set it up as above and reapplied the new master page, still no luck!
I’m stumped!?! If we can’t get these margins correct we can’t send it to the commercial printer.

Well I don't know for a fact that it is, but the customer is a major International Fortune 500 Company and this is an Installation sheet printed and included in one of their product packages, so I would imagine it is an offset press.
Besides, if the commercial printer was using a commercial Laser printer, can't they print 2-sided? There is no problem when it is printed 2-sided, the images align because both margins are offset in the same direction. It is only when it is printed 1-sided (one side to each printing plate) that the problem becomes obvious because the offsets are in the opposite directions. (BTW, it is B&W)

Problems with Pitch-Shifting in GarageBand 10.0.1

I'm trying to reconstruct a song by showing the sample source, then showing its progression by pitch-shifting it to the point where its sound matches with the song that samples it (e.g., the YouTube tutorials on the "Shook Ones, Pt. II" and "Ice Cream" samples). However, I'm using Garageband 10.0.1, and whenever I try to pitch-shift only one of multiple recordings/copies, everything in the project is shifted to the selected pitch, so it ends up being useless for what I need it to do. This is especially aggravating because earlier versions of GarageBand (at least for 2010-era programs) didn't have this problem. I want to if – or, more likely, how – I can get around this and make sure only a selected snippet is pitch-shifted, rather than everything in the project, as well as if it applies only to individual recordings or copies as well.
On a related note, pitch-shifting a recording in Garageband (granted, one only using built-in speakers) always seems to entail a weird Auto-Tune effect, and it is almost never as smooth as in the aforementioned sample-tutorial videos. I also want to know if this a necessary limitation, or if there are ways around it.

Can someone help me please?

Problem with stroke color and weight

I have an illustration of a chair I am working on using Illustrator CC. It is made up of a combination of shapes and open paths. In order to get the illustration filled correctly I used live paint to fill the open paths. I was in the process of adjusting the stroke weight and colors but one stroke will not allow me to make any changes. The stroke color is marked witha question mark and the weight will not change at all.
Update: I have since posting this copied my artwork and pasted it into a new document. I was able to correct the stroke on the problem path, but now there is an entire section of the chair which will accept no fill...
Any help is appreciated.

If I were you I would provide a sample .ai file and include some instructions to reproduce the issue you're talking about.

Please help. This just recently happened and I don't know how to fix it. While working on a document, I was adjusting the stroke on a particular word in my document. Went to work on something else and came back when I decided to change the word back to the original stroke value. I went to click on the stroke tab, and when it popped up it was blank. Nothing was there. Just grey. I went and looked in the dock to change my stroke value and again, nothing was there. I don't know what happened. It doesn't do this with any other tool. I am working in InDesign CS3.
Any ideas or thoughts?

My laptop (HP Pavilion dv6-2005tx Entertainment Notebook PC) can't read any cd/dvd's when i put them in the drive and also my LHS shift key does not work while pressing it for writing/using capital letters. please help me at the earliest.

The cable is considered "optional" for those modes.

Every time i press the shift key, a small arrow pops up and then disappears in the upper corner of my screen. When i press shift twice, it turns on caps lock.Im not sure what i did to turn on this feature, but i want to shut it off

It seems like you are using a Wi-Fi model. For location services to work, you would need to be connected to the internet.

Problems with option-shift-k what should create the Apple logo

Using the above mentioned keyboard shortcut I used to be able to create the original Apple logo in any text application. Since a few days I have lost this capability and I don't know in which font this logo lives. Apple Hotline couldn't fix the problem. Any suggestions?

Your Input Source must have been somehow switched from U.S. to U.S. Extended. Check for it in International.
In Character Palette you'll find  in Glyph Catalog (View Glyph), font Lucida Grande.

One way to do this can be:

End Sub
The inputbox is shown to the user and the input is stored in the strFilename variable. That way whenever the code is run it will ask for a filename which you can suppy.
