Problem with Superdrive after using Bootcamp
Alright so earlier today I decided to Bootcamp my Macbook and install Windows 7 with a 70GB partition. I was using https://help.apple.com/bootcamp/mac/5.0/help/#/bcmp173b3bf2 and http://www.howtogeek.com/186907/how-to-install-windows-on-a-mac-with-boot-camp/ to help guide me through the process. Everything was running smoothly at first...I had a 32GB memory stick that I used to load the support software onto and I had a Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit DVD in my disk drive.
The first problem I ran into was when Bootcamp wanted to download the files onto the memory stick - it wanted me to format the stick. So I went into Disk Utility, clicked on it, went to erase, then formatted it to the same format it was (because it was already FAT) and then it all worked. After getting the support software onto the memory stick the next step was to partition my disk. After doing a TON of research I finally decided that 70GB would be enough for the OS, a game or two, Sony Vegas Pro, and a few small programs. So I dragged the thing to give the new partition 70 GB and pressed install.
Then, the next problem occurred - a message popped up saying "The USB drive connected to this Mac contains a bootable volume. In order to install Windows 7 from the DVD, the Boot Camp Assistant needs to disable this functionality. No information on the drive will be removed, do you want to continue?" I was hesitant at this point to do anything so I googled it and couldn't find much except this thread - Bootable volume on USB flash drive in boot camp. I decided to try it and press continue since according to the thread it would stop me if there was a problem. Once I did I THINK (I can't remember that it did for sure or not) it dismounted the memory stick, which I remember thinking was okay because I could just unplug it and plug it back in after Windows 7 was installed to install the support software (Also, I NEVER removed the memory stick until after a reboot later on). After that Bootcamp began partitioning my hard drive.
About an hour later the blue progress bar had actually filled up to at least 99% (but it looked like 100% to me) but Bootcamp still said "Status: Partitioning Disk" so I left it alone for another 1-2 hours. After that I started getting worried and googled how long this process was supposed to take and found out that this step normally only took a few minutes for most people. At this point I started looking up fixes for this but nothing matched my problem since Bootcamp itself wasn't actually frozen (when I clicked and held on the icon it didn't say "Application not responding") so I decided to check to see if the partition had worked. Then, Disk Utility froze like a few seconds after opening it up so I had to force quit that. My next option was to check under "Storage" in "About this mac" so I tried that and it froze as well. While all this was going on I kept checking back to Bootcamp and it never froze.
Now I was getting extremely worried and with no solutions on Google and no idea what to do I decided to just try and restart my computer and pray to god that it would reboot fine. Luckily, it did...for the most part. After rebooting all my applications seemed to be working fine (I can confirm that Terminal, Disk Utility, System Preferences, System Information, and Safari are all working or at least loading). I also had all my files still on my computer so that was good. Next, I checked Disk Utility to see if the partition had actually worked and it did, or at least it is showing up as "BOOTCAMP" under my main hard drive. Then, I tried using Bootcamp again and this is when I noticed something new - a warning on Bootcamp's first page that wasn't there before, "You need an optical drive to install Windows. Connect an optical drive to your computer. You cannot install Windows with a remote optical drive." I can't guarantee that it wasn't there the first time but I really don't remember it there (I'm sorry I don't have faith in my memory anymore :/). After reading that I checked my Desktop for the mounted Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit DVD and it wasn't there. Then, I checked Disk Utility and it wasn't showing up there either. The only things I can see on Disk Utility are my main hard drive with both partitions, my memory stick, and a random dmg file called decryptedFile.dmg (the size of this file is only 15.6mb so I don't think it could be the OS DVD).
So now I am trying to figure out how to get my computer to recognize that it does have an internal optical drive and that there is a DVD inside of it. I looked around on Google to try to find answers but all the regular options to fix this don't work since the computer itself is not realizing it's there. I don't know if this helps to prove that it doesn't realize this but I checked in System Information -> Hardware -> Disk Burning and it says "No disk burning device was found. If the device is external, make sure it's connected and turned on." And since a "Superdrive" can read disks I'm assuming it can burn them to and would be shown under that. (I don't know that much about computers though so I could easily be wrong)
Anyways, sorry for the extreme detail that I went into but I wanted to get as much information about what happened as I possibly could. For those of you who don't have time to read all that I'll put a little summary.
Basically, I tried to Bootcamp my Macbook to run Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. I ran into a few problems and then Bootcamp wouldn't move on from "Status: Partitioning Disk" so I had to restart my computer. After the restart my Macbook doesn't recognize that it has an internal Superdrive and therefore doesn't realize that there's a Windows 7 Ultimate DVD disk in it. I looked around for answers but none of the simple ones (using key commands on the keyboard and typing something into terminal) worked. Now I'm looking for help to get my computer to realize that it does have a Superdrive inside so I can get the disk out.
Thanks in advanced! If any more information is required to help please let me know so I can find it. Also, this is a Mid-2010 White Unibody Macbook.
Hi and welcome to Discussions,
I assume you have used the OSX Leopard DVD that came with your MBP to install the BootCamp Drivers, right ?
Do you have any hardware devices that are shown with 'yellow signs' when using the Device Manager from Vista ?
Try using this DX Update http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=C1367BC3-4676-481A-BFAA -5C15D1D7199D&displaylang=en
Hope it helps.

Charging problem with Z1 after using magnetic charging post charger
Greetings, I have an xPeria Z1 running Android 4.3, build 14.2.A.0.290.All has been working just fine until a few days ago when I connected my charger using the magnetic charging posts on the side of the phone, rather than plugging in the usb cable. Note: I've charged via this method for over a year with no issues. This time, however, the phone shut off when I connected the charging cable. I could not boot it up again, using any options. The "hard power down" reset button did nothing - the power button with Vol UP or Vol DOWN did nothing. Using a charging cable plugged into my PC did nothing. Using a car charger did nothing. When I got home, using the factory supplied charger and cable I was finally able to wake up the phone using the Power+Vol UP (I think) option. After finally waking the phone up again I thought all was well. However, when charging the phone, when it gets to the point that the battery is fully charged (or close to it), the screen comes on, all by itself. It stays lit for a minute or so, then turns off for a few seconds, and then comes back on again. This repeats constantly. I tried powering the phone off and unplugging the charger. After doing that, the screen still turns itself on, showing just the SONY logo. That stays on for a few seconds, then goes off, and then that process repeats. SONY...off.... SONY.... off... SONY... off.... when the phone is OFF. The only way to stop this is to use the little reset button on the phone. I don't know if the charging cable somehow messed up the battery or other hardware, or if it messed up something in the software. I suspect I'll have to re-flash the ROM, but I'm hoping to avoid this. Any suggestions? Thanks, Bill
actually, my old black z1 have exactly same problem with you...i don't know if this happend to you to...but in my problem, i put the magnetic charger in the wrong way...then the problem came out exactly same like you...maybe someone put the magnetic charger in your z1 wrong way...i try to repair using PC Compinion but not helping...factory reset, nothing happend...finally i took my phone to repair and they give me the new one...but this time my z1 is white

Problems with IMAC after using ccleaner app
I downloaded the free cccleaner app and used it to "clean" my imac. Now I can't access .doc or .xls files on my mac (.docx and .xlsx files are fine) and the auto-save in WORD doesn't work. I can't even open .doc WORD files that I receive in an email. And these are only the problems that I found right away. Anyone have any ideas on what I can do?
Those 100 reviews may have all been written by the developer. There is a reason it is free... perhaps they have a paid utility that fixes all the problems it causes.
There is no registry on a Mac. It doesn't exist. A Mac is as different from a Windows computer as a bicycle is different than a fish. CCCleaner is a Windows program designed to address the myriad Windows problems that simply do not exist on a Mac. Programs like that prey upon people's ignorance and prejudice resulting from years of Windows indoctrination. Don't be one of them.
Enough scolding... Can you launch MS Office, and open the files from there?
It may be a simple matter of reassociating the files with their creator. Try this: select (single click) one of the files that will not open and choose "Get Info" from the Finder's File menu. In the information column that is displayed, click on the small triangle near the words "open with". Select Word (or whatever is appropriate) and then click the "Change All" button. See if that fixes things. -
Problems with login after using assistant to transfer files
Hi guys,
Today I got my new Macbook pro with intel 7 and Mac OS X 10.7. I started to transfer all info from the old computer, including user accounts, files, documents etc.
The old computer is a Macbook pro OS X v 10.6.8.
Everything was fine with the transfer until i tried to login on the new computer with same accoutsettings as the old. My new computer is telling me: Could not login to the filevaultaccount during a problem.
Do anybody know why i get this problem?
Cheers,anjus wrote:

I took that to imply a separate account. Since that's not the case, all I can suggest is to disable filevault on the old machine, wipe the new, restore Lion, and start over. I don't use FV, but suspect that might be what's causing your issues. -
Anyone having problems with DX after trying bootcamp?
So I decided to go the boot camp route for the heck of it. i Installed XP Media Center with SP2. My problem is that the Direct X drivers wont load at ALL. Anyone have similar problems?
There is a Boot Camp forum now. Although your question is specific to the Mac mini, you might find some more informed folks there who could could give you some advice.

Problem with WMI after using MDT/WDS to deploy
Hi
I am using MDT with WDS to deploy windows server.
All is fine, besides WMI from Zenoss for monitoring, it show's me errors like
" Could not read the Windows event log (NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED). Check your username/password settings and verify network
connectivity."
If i do the same installation by hand, everything works.
Do you have any idea how installation from MDT differs from by hand installation, that could have impact on WMI?Hi Bartosz Kupiecki,
May you must have some misunderstand of WDS and MDT deploy, your issue may occur because your MDT has some unattended file or customize the install image (has setting
some special configuration which different with the your manually installed system), please remove this customize configuration then try again.

I have a problem with iTunes after using Migration Assistant
Hi,
I've just used Migration Assistant to move all my files from my PC (HP Pavilion) to my new MacBook Air. In Itunes now, my songs are showing but all of them have an exclamation mark by them as none of the files can be found. How do I resolve this (hopefully without taking too much time)?
ThanksHi, I just tried that but I still have the same problem. Is there anything else I could do? Thanks

How can i change back to os after using bootcamp
Hi, Im the proud owner of a early 2008 mac, I installed windows 7 on my mac using bootcamp. I wanted to clean up my mac by resetting it, there was nothing I really wanted to keep so thats why I wanted to reset. I went to the setting screen you know the one if you can choose when your starting the mac. I had 2 disks one with os x one with windows after using bootcamp you can seperate your disk in 2 new ones. But after I deleted the one with os x, I was ready to re install os x mountain lion. It seemed to work but after restarting my mac, I couldnt change to os x anymore. And cant remember my password for windows and cant even get a new password (Im supposed to have a password disk for windows or something like that?) So Im really stuck here.
Can you help me please?Try rebooting with the Option key depressed and see if this brings up the bootable devices which includes OS X which you can then select to boot from.

CS 4 Dynamic Link to Encore doesn't work most of the time. Encore stops operating after opening and periodically Premier Pro stops working. I'm told that there has been a problem with CS4 when using Dynamic Link to go to Encore and build CD's. Is there a way around this? Is there a patch to correct it?
To build CD's???
What problem does Encore have with DL?
If DL is not working properly for you the way around this is to export from Premiere to either mpeg2-dvd for DVD or BluRay H.264 for BD-disks and import the files in Encore. -
Problem with Java after Software Update to 10.5.7
Hi,
I am facing problem with Java after having run Software upgrades.
Here is the whole story. I recently moved to iMac 10.5.6 from PowerPc 10.4. On this new machine I was having problem running a 3rd party application, which requires JVM. As this application worked well on Tiger, I decided to upgrade JVM on my iMAC using Software Upgrade(was I insane!!). As I like my systems to be updated (as with linux on my personal machine) I clicked "install all". As a result I have the following upgrades run on my machine:
2009-05-20 13:12:01 +0200: Installed "Mac OS X Update Combined" (10.5.7)

2009-05-20 13:59:58 +0200: Installed "iTunes" (8.1.1)

cheersHi man,
In the wake of this java problem I resorted to keep working on my old machine, and today in my spare time I tried to fix this new machine.
So I execute $java on prompt, and then try to check the files it has opened, using lsof -p pid
I see it referring to
/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.5.0/Home/bin/java
isn't this usually the JAVA_HOME
However, executing $/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.5.0/Home/bin/java
hangs!!
but
$/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.6.0/Home/bin/java
works!!
$ pwd

Problems with Mail after upgrading to 10.9.1
I am running into problems with Mail after installing 10.9.1. I had NO problems with Mail prior to this update.
Problems I have encountered so far are:
- I don't receive some e-mails on my Gmail account.
- I have sent e-mails that supposedly got "sent" but do not show up in my Sent box both on mail and on web Gmail. My Outbox is empty also.
Has anyone encountered the same problems and found a solution?
Thanks in advance!Yes Paul I have, but no solution. I cannot send email. My ISP uses a smtp mail server for sending and It will not log in. Have had ISP on phone and checked all settings. Can only put it down to Mavericks.

==================
Boy, you are not kidding, I was running both the cloud and CS6, and I was ready to throw in the towel.
I have changed computer's twice now, have a solid state hd, (which I love) with 10 terabytes on externals, I run NOTHING except adobe's stuff on my HD now, and only one version of it, and it runs like a dream.
So, I updated the OS to win 8.1, updated my peripherals,
I dumped CS6 (hated to, but for some reason my 3D won't work on it, it works fine with the cloud) but in CS6 the software was turning it off after adobe's last update.
I've made a virtual machine for my development environments which do not play well with adobe's stuff.
My rule of thumb has always been double what the manufacturer states is required for RAM, but imho, with my current upgrades: upgraded to win8.1, and other peripherals, spent two weeks changing stuff over and it's about 100 times better than trying to run CC and CS6. - No kidding, the change is astronomical
But for anything PC I'm way over powered, and for Adobe, I'm still underpowered.
Next, I'll just get a mac for Adobe, and stick with my pc's for ms/CentOS. Too, it seems like since the cloud was initiated Adobe is rolling out the updates faster and changes without warning. The processor/3D issue, I had no warning on it, just woke up one day and "no more 3d" :S
But I do love the cloud, so, guess there's got to be some dark lining to it. <g> -

Problems with java after the last update
Hi, yesterday I downloaded and install the last update available for Snow Leopard. After having installed the update, I had problems with Matlab (I use the version R2010a), and the error code is reported below. Do you think the error and the update are correlated? Do you have any idea of how to fix the problem?
Many thanks, and cheers!
