Problem with tab stops in InDesign CS6

Hi there.
I'm trying to align large numbers (with two stops) like
1.229
102.864
7.075
2.140.753
2.251.921
in Indesign CS6. Obviously I'd like them to align on the second dot.
After choosing OpenType > Tabular Lining from the Character Panel menu I am able to align them almost perfectly. However upon closer inspection I can see that the second dot is not aligned perfectly like it should. Why is that? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sure! If you look at the examples above, I've tried three different options and settings using the Minion Pro font. Selecting "OpenType > Tabular Lining is not even necessary as I've come to learn.
Example A: a normal textbox in which I've selected all the numbers and then chosen "Align right". The numbers then align perfectly on the second dot.
Example B: a normal textbox with several columns and different tabs options. You can see which one I've used on the individual columns by the title above. Notice how the decimal option is not aligning the numbers by the second dot? The only solution to the problem is to choose the "Right-justfied Tab" in the tab options, as shown in the last column. Aparently you can't make the decimal tab align on the second dot like this in InDesign yet but perhaps they'll make it possible in another version.
Example C: I've inserted a table into a textbox and and then used different tabs options on the columns; notice how the decimal tab is working like it should in this case? In order to insert a tab in a table you need to place your curser right in front of the number and then right-click your mouse, choose Insert special character > Other > Tab. You can also choose to make the row and column stroke invisible in the table Table options if need be, which will make it look exactly like a normal textbox.
This won't work with fonts like Dosis as it's not suitable for tabular work where you want figures to line up vertically like Spier said, so you need to choose a font like Minion Pro or something similar to it.
I'm not sure if that solves your problem. If not then please attach a picture of the issue you're having and I'll try my best to help you.

Problem with exporting PDF from Indesign CS6

Hi,
I recently registered & installed CS6 on my computer (Last week!), and I seem to have problems with Indesign, which is the main reason for my buying the product.
The problem is that whenever I try to save & export a file as PDF from Indesign I get an error message (See attached file).
The files are saved with 0KB size, and so the Acrobat reader can't open them for preview.
This really interrupts my work, and backs up the entire comapny schedule.
I already tried updating, and uninstalling&re-installing the suite - but no luck.
Any help would be appreciated, and we need it ASAP.

Without proper system info and details about what PDF settings you actually used and how and where you save your files, nobody can say anything. You could simply be doing something silly like using PDF/A, but trying to enforce high-res pictures or whatever. In any case, ask in the ID forum.

Problem with exported JPGs from InDesign (CS6 and CC): double rows of pixels

We are using a javasscript for exporting cropped pictures out of our InDesign Layouts. But there is a problem that comes witch each file. No matter what wie change in the export options, it always appears. It seems like there is one row of pixels two times in the jpgs. Can anyone explain - or even better - provide a solution for this?

Well if i do that, the video will raise up GBs larger (and that is really bad).
Why is it really bad?
Its a fact of digital life. High datarate = quality.
example ...even the Youtube preset is in the 8mpbs area.
...and you are exporting 1 hr 35mins of media.

Office Web Apps Server 2013 - Word Web App - Problem with Tab space

Hello We have Office Web Apps Server 2013 running with SharePoint 2013. Users Editing a Word document with Office Web Apps, can't use "Tabs", any Word document with Tabs; the tabs are replaced with a single space.
Has anyone noticed this? Is this a bug?

Problem with Tabbing Order in LiveCycle

I have a two page form. The last field on the second page is an image field (the user can attach a graphic). The problem is it won't tab back to the first page after this field.

I, too, am having problems with tab order.
I have a two-page form created in LiveCycle Designer. There are 66 fields on the 1st page of the form, and 65 fields on page 2. When I use Window > Tab order to examine the tab order, all is as it should be (except for one thing, discussed later). However, when I go into the Preview PDF tab (or load the form in Acrobat X Pro), field 4 on page 1 tabs to field 42 (on page 1). Additionally, tabbing from field 41 on page 1 takes me to field 43 on page 2.
I can use Action Builder to ensure that the tab goes to the appropriate field, but that seems a rather kludgy way to go about it.
And that additional problem: I've got three text fields on page 1 that are of type Protected. According to the documentation, "The protected field is not included in the tabbing sequence and it does not generate events.", yet all three fields are in the tab order.
What (if anything) am I doing wrong?

Problem with tabbed panel

I have a problem with tabbed panel...this panel has 3 columns, I copied to each of them a diffrent text (diffrent height)...I expected to obtain diffrent working area of column, for example 1st column-height 7500 px, 2nd-1500 px, 3rd-2500 px, but I received one height 7500 px, each column has been formatted to this size....below a text I have “empty space”- (it is a diffrence between working area and text area)...I put the text to the 1st column for example 7200 px height, empty space below this text is 300 px I received 7500 px of working area in this column, here the problem doesn`t exist but….2nd column i have height of text for example 1300 px, below this text i have 6200 px empty space...It should be height 1300 px of text and maybe 200 px of empty space...so the working area could have at 1500 px not 7500 px of height....I try to change it (to for example 1500 px) but it still return to the basic 7500 px height and can`t do it...The solution is to use another form like. the accordion form..but it is a row form….when you put a diffrent sized text (height) you will receive diffrent size of working area (height), you obtain 7200px text +300 px empty space=7500 working area in 1st row.. 1200 px text + 300 px empty space=1500 workin area px in 2nd row and 2500 working area px in 3rd row…everything is fine in this form…each row has been formatted to the different size of height…but I prefer to use a tabbed panel (column form) instead a accordion form.…I don`t to waste the time to correct the code in html text editor like PSPad…

Photoshop images with spot channels in Indesign CS6 (layout question)

I've got an Indesign CS6 layout that will have a spot varnish when it goes to press. Right now I've got a layout with psd files that have spot channels in them that will be used for the spot varnish.
My question is, in Indesign when I'm laying this out should I have one layer with all the psd artwork (with no spot channels) and then a layer on top of that with the psd files with the psd layers turned off with the spot channel showing? I want to make this easy to print in the office so by doing it this way I could just turn the spot layer off and print.
Will this work for the printer?

Besides the obvious extra work of tracking 2 images, there would be potential problems if the images needs to be scaled and moved, and you would have to assume people downstream would know what's going on—should the layer be on or off?
I would double check with the current printer—they should know the only way to view a spot is via Sep or Output preview by turning CMYK off—magenta could just as easily be process as spot.
Take a closer look at the Alias method. Here it is with your magenta defined SPOT VARNISH.
With SPOT VARNISH set as No Alias in Ink Manager and with Overprint turned on:
And with an additional spot color defined as white named CLEAR VARNISH. When you need to print in house alias SPOT VARNISH to CLEAR VARNISH and check Simulate Overprint in the Print dialog. You can get to Ink Manger via the Print>Output dialog or Swatches panel:
All you have to do is delete the CLEAR VARNISH before sending the job to the printer or exporting

Can someone help with my download of inDesign CS6?

We bought inDesign CS6 online, but it didn't come with a disk. Instead I was prompted to go to the following link http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/cs6-product-downloads.html
After downloading CS6 Design Standard (files 1 and 2), the larger of the two files was saved to my download folder as a 7Z file. The smaller file was the "extractor." I click on that and it gives me the folder location box, then I click next. At that point, the following message appears: "A problem occurred while extracting some files. Check available space on your computer and the write privileges on the destination folder" After click OK, this message appears: "A problem occurred while extracting the archive. Please try downloading the Adobe CS6 Design Standard again." After clicking OK, this is the last message that comes up: "Exception EListError in module DesginStandard_CS6_LS16exe at 0001B6E3. List index out of bounds (0)," accompanied by the dreaded red X.
This wasn't a cheap purchase. And my computer is only five months old, so memory shouldn't be an issue. Does anyone have any suggestions? For starters, an idea on how to open a 7Z file? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Having a problem with character styles in indesign

I'm having another problem with my style sheets in indesign, I've now got an awful lot of styles in paragraph and character styles. I've created different styles for paragraph justified text and when I go to my style in paragraph styles to use tight text copy, character styles always overides it so it means I have to do whole lot of extra formatting just to put it right. Does anyone have an idea how I can stop character styles overiding paragraph styles? Thanks very much.

Perhaps your character styles apply more than you actually want? I.e., rather than just "+Italic" it also applies custom tracking. You should use character styles only to override the stuff you really want to change.
You can check by calling up the definition for those character styles; the huge "Style Settings" text box lists all the attributes it changes.

Problem submitting pdf form in Indesign CS6

I've designed a form in Indesign CS6 (trial version) and added the submit button with a mailto email address as in the tutorials etc. I have opened it in Adobe Acrobate 10 and extended the forms functionality to Adobe Reader.
When opened online and the submit button is clicked, a box opens asking which option which best describes how you send email. After selecting Outlook my email client opens with the message 'Form returned; sample_form.pdf attached. the attached file is the filled-out form. Please open it to retrieve the data'. Just above the message bar states 'this message has not been sent'.
I've also downloaded the Michael Jarott tutorial which I cannot get to send either.

Unfortunately the form still returns the 'no matches found for [email protected]' I've changed the URL field on the submit button to mailto: xxxxx@xxxx and I've also tried it with no space after the mailto:, unfortunately both these return the above error message. This is the same whatever email address I try. I'm starting to tear my hair out with this one. I've tried it on my home PC arunning Norton Internet Security and on my works PC running Avast. Same problem on both.

After reading the following page, I thought I understood how to format my index. Makes logical sense.

I got it to work for a minute, and then the dots disappeared, and I'm at a loss. Can't get them back, despite starting from scratch.

The above paragraphs are formatted as Level1IX, and Level2IX, respectively, on the Ref Pages. When I go to the body pages and click on the text it seems that the correct info is in the Paragraph Designer, BUT NO DOTS or tabs come up.
Is there something I'm missing? I don't get why this can be so tricky? (Sorry, I'm a little frustrated at this point).
(By the way, I do hit Apply and then Update All on the Ref Pages, in the Paragraph Designer.)

The problem may be just one of those "well, that's how it works" things, or it may be something else.
I'm thinking of the problem that affects tabs and tab stops, when the width of the generated list's text frame on the body page is narrower than the generated list's specification text frame on the reference page.
FrameMaker's tab stops are "absolute," unlike almost every other tab stop you've seen; those are "relative." In FrameMaker-ese this means that the first (leftmost) tab character is absolutely connected to the first (leftmost) tab stop in the paragraph's format, and, naturally, the second goes with the second, etc.
If you type a tab character, it tried to go to the tab stop it's connected to. So, if the first tab character you type in the first line of a paragraph is to the left of the first tab stop, the text jumps to that tab stop, and you keep typing. The second tab character you type tries to go to the second tab stop, and so on.
However, if the typing has passed (gone to the right of) its tab stop, unlike relative tab behavior which goes to the next available tab stop, in FrameMaker that tab is dead. It's a zero-width lurker. If you type a second tab character at the same place as the dead first tab character, if the second tab stop is to the right of this tab character, the typing will jump to the tab stop, and so on.
Well, suppose you create a right-aligned tab stop at a fixed position on the line, say 6.5", about where the default reference page text frame ends, and you define the rest of its paragraph properties as you like, you'll expect everything on the body page created by generating a list or index from that reference page. Good thinking. But NOOOOOOOOOT necessarily true. If the main text frame in the generated list or index document has been narrowed, that right-aligned tab stop will be outside the margin, and stuff will act silly.
Moral: it's always a good idea to define tab stop positions in the exact text frame where they will appear. Usually, there's no problem, except when the paragraphs are defined in the text frame on the reference page. It's not always the same width as the document page on which it places generated text.
If this isn't the problem, I'm out of ideas. Probably something that's easier to explain<G>.

alrighty then try this xml structure.
Note: formatting information like b, or linkage tags should
not be part of the xml.
The XML format is a universal format for data, if you fill it
with style information this is not good practive (in general, there
are of course scenarios where it makes sense, also since (x)html IS
also XML).
In your case you want to put the information about multiple
companies in a xml file, but you let the flash decide how to
display format this information.
so if you use the sugested XMl structure you will have full
control of the layout within flash, because you can grab every
piece of information from the xml and place it jsut where you want
in flash and format it within flash.
Of course this process is more coding work than your previous
attempt, but it pays of when you have a lot of data to process and
when you want to have full control of the final layout.
But maybe its overkill for your application (I don't know how
many companies will be stored in your xml and how complex the rest
of the app is).

I have a problem with Adobe Flash Professional CC and CS6 to save animated .gif file. Here is very simple work with logo. But I can't save a perfect file swf or gif and it's so bad news for me. Thanks, but I use publish/export settings with GPU hardware acceleration and flash version 11.2 (and 11.8) but nothing happening.
And why gif file is not all transparenty then I insert on lightblue background? It can't export good quality? Also I use Photoshop, After Effects, Adobe Edge Animate. And nothing happening. Problem with Light Table in Bridge CS6

Hi! After a re-install (which didn't fix the problem with PS), I now find that, when using the light table in Bridge CS6 and after hitting the space bar, if I then click on the image, it goes to 800% size! Prior to the uninstall & re-install, it worked perfectly in taking images to 100% size.

Why did you reinstall photoshop cs6?
What operating system are you using?
Did you reinstall all the updates for photoshop cs6 by going to Help>Updates from within photoshop cs6?
After you enter the light table, use your mouse scroll wheel to zoom back to 100% and exit the light table.
The next time you go to the light table and click on the picture it should only go to 100%.
