Problem with the Recovery Media Creator

Hello, I just bought an Portege Z385-p370, it came in yesterday morning (April 23- 2012) Brand new, an I haven't had it for 24 hours and I am already having problems.
As I read that I should make the Recovery Media, went on and bought a 16G USB, plugged in to the laptop and started the process. It lasted like 2 hours in like 30% of completion and that was all, I had to cancellit, didn't work either. So I used CTR + ALt + Del, and close it. Then I tried to shut down the lap top, and surprise, didn't work either, lasted like 20 minutes until I did it manually.
I have been trying to Create the Recovery like 5 times already, erased all of mi files from the computer (in order to get it factory-like) and I am currently running the Recovery again (has been in 30% for 10 minutes already). Last time I did it, It stopped like in 70% completion (on safe mode restart).
PD. pc has no CD drive
Please help me, It is getting into my nerve, doing this into a brand new.
my email. [email protected] I some one has any clue on this.
thank you very much.

I would recommend you to purchase an separate USB memory stick and to create the such recovery USB flash memory media.
Please check also this different procedure described in this Toshiba HowTO

  • Problem with usb recovery media

    Hello all,
I own a Lenovo L412. A disc test complained that my HDD is about to die, so I decided to upgrade to an SSD. I bought an SSD, an 16gb USB flash stick and an external disk enclosure. The plan was to get the OS from my R&R to the USB flash stick, replace the drive, reinstall windows from the flash disk, and use the enclosure with my old drive to copy the files I need to the new one, as long as it is alive.
So I used the thinkvantage menu to get the OS to the USB stick, it says this was done successfuly and it also does not allow me to repeat it. The problem is when I try to boot from this stick, all I get is an empty screen and the cursor blinking on the top left corner. What can I do?
    Best wishes,
    plutonas

    Hello and welcome,
Did you prep the USB flash drive before running the recovery ceation?
New or used USB memory keys or USB flash drives require an active partition created from within Wind...
If this is the problem you may be able to rescue the flash drive by one of two methods:
    1) Just set the partition active.  Use the instructions in the link above, but don't clean create or format.  Just select the partition and set active.  Anything else will erase the drive.
    2) Prepare a 2nd drive per the full set of instructions in the above link.  Then just copy the contents of the 1st drive to the 2nd one.
You've already used your one opportunity to create a recovery drive, so be careful to not erase it.  On some systems it's possible to do a hack to create a 2nd drive if necessary.
I can't guarantee this is causing the boot failure, but it's at least a possibility.

  • Question about Recovery Media Creator

Hello everyone, first of all, I don't know if this question should be in this catergory, but I thought this would be the best to post in.
My question is about the Recovery Media Creator procces. I was about to create the recovery DVD and I noticed there are several Recovery Media options (Recovery Media 1 to Recovery Media 3).
My question is, what are the differences between them? Does it matter if I only check one of them so I would need less DVD's or a smaller USB?
    Thanks in advance.
PS. excuse my grammar or bad explanation if there is any mistake.

Using Toshiba recovery media creator recovery image saved on HDD will be copied on DVDs or USB media and it will be created as bootable media.
How many discs must be used depends on recovery image. For some notebooks 2 discs are needed and for some of them you need 3 discs.
The tool gives you also info which medias you can use and suggest you, for instance which USB device you need. For my U940 is 16 GB USB listed as suggested due to 9,2 GB recovery image.

I have downloaded it from the Toshiba website..
I don't see it among the downloads at the link above. So I doubt you've got the right program.
See if you can locate the following file in either the Program Files or the Program Files (X86) folder. It should be the program you're looking for.
       TRMCLcher.exe

Otherwise, you can order recovery media from Toshiba. Scroll down to Get Recovery Media here.

  • My MacBook Pro 13 inch makes a clicking noise from the hard drive and can not start up in safe mode and normal. I then ran disk utility in recovery mode and disk utility shows no problems with the hard drive. What is the problem?

Please help me, I have a mid 2010 Mac book pro with a toshiba mk3266gsxf harddrive. It started making a clicking noise and then my computer crashed. I proceeded to boot in safe mode, but it doesn't work. When I ran disk utility in recovery mode, it showed no problem with my disk. Does any one know what the problem is?

Sounds like a mechanical problem with the drive and it ruined the sectors where the Macintosh HD partition (and OS X, and files and programs) reside, but not your Recovery HD partition.
If you held command option r while booting, that's Internet Recovery and it's loaded via the Internet, not via the Recovery HD partition on the boot drive, so that could mean the drive is dead mechanically or there is another issue.
In either case the drive will likely have to be replaced, it's a matter of what occured to where and the drive state if you can recover data or not. If you made recent backups then your fine.
My computer is not working, is my personal data lost?

  • Problem with the audio when creating optimized media...

I am having a problem with the quality of my audio after I transcode the clip to optimized media. It sounds fine originally, and I have listened to the clips when I first import them, and they sound fine, it's only after they're optimized that they sound bad. There is a clicking sound that is randomly distributed throughout the clip. I thought at first that maybe this would be fixed after I published the content, as the whole point of optimized media was to make it lesser quality to improve performance while editing, but even when published the clicks could be heard distinctly. I tried editing the content with out optimizing the mdeia, but the editing is too slow as I am working with high quality media.
Has anyone had this problem? Anyone have an idea on how to I might be able to fix this?

One way would be to make sure the Preferences window under the Import tab says not to use optimized media.  Then go to the timeline and Control Click the clip.  Choose Reveal in Event Browser.  This will select the clip in the event browser. The originally specified in and out points will be represented in the yellow border on the clip.  Then in the File menu choose the Import ... Files and specify the original media.  The clip in the event browser will be filled in again from the new import, and the timeline clip will also be replaced with the new material. In and out points will be honored and effects will still be in place on the timeline clip.
Now, I use this procedure to reconnect clips all the time ... I have not used it before to switch formats from optimized to original media so there is a little guessing here on my part.  The option, of course, is to simply reimport from a camera archive or the camera of the SD card into a new clip then replace everything ... Again, this would need to be done having turned off the preference item to use optimized media.  Hope this helps a little.  Best wishes.

  • Toshiba Recovery Media Creator Error Code 020150-20-00000000 (Satallite L755-S5308)

We just received 2 - Toshiba Satallite L755-S5308 Laptops over the thanksgiving holiday from Best Buy and the first thing we normally do after powering up the laptops is to create our recovery disc sets to DVD's. However, both laptops are giving the same error message on both machines at the same point in the creation of the Recovery DVD Disc 4 when using the Toshiba Recovery Media Creator. Please See Eror Message Below:
Failed To Read The Following File.
    D:\ZZImages\ZZImages\Preinst18.swm
    (Error Code: 020150-20-00000000)
If you are getting this error message then you will not be able to restore your laptop factory software and operating system (Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit)

You could create an image of the entire HDD onto another drive, but this can be a headache for a lot of users and would require specialized hardware and a HDD enclosure. As such, it's not a feasible solution.
Oh,come now.  You can buy 'specialized hardware' -- an HDD enclosure -- from a widely known online computer store for $12.99 with free shipping, and a spare plain old Seagate 500 GB hard drive (nothing very special about it, except that it costs more since the flooding in Thailand) running at 7200 rpm from a different widely known online computer store for $99.99 (shipping extra).  Seagate gives away its branded version of Acronis True image for free.  It is not that hard to use.   I believe the L755 has a 500 GB 5400 rpm hard disc drive, so this Seagate may make the laptop run faster under some conditions.   Creating an image of the laptop HDD onto this 2nd HDD mounted in the enclosure may take hours, but consider the only other alternative, below:
Anyone who thinks that solution is not feasible can just wait until their one and only hard disc drive fails or develops a software problem.    Without usable recovery discs, the machine must be dropped off or mailed to a service center.  Compare the waiting and the expense to have someone else solve that kind of problem with the effort and expense of preventing it.   If you don't mind being without your computer for a few days or weeks, go for the simple way.
By the way, even the best home-burned optical discs are prone to develop unexpected failures after they are created.  I've never had a factory pressed optical disc properly stored develop a late failure.  If these work out of the box, they work a couple of years later.   The technologies behind a home-burned disc and a factory-pressed disc are different.
Getting back to my original point, should your 1st HDD fail, and should you have a 2nd HDD with the cloned image of the 1st HDD, your recovery takes as long as it takes to remove HDD #1, installed HDD #2, and reboot your laptop, involving about 5 minutes of your time and perhaps a small screwdriver.  You can test whether or not your cloned backup works the same way, by installing HDD #2 and seeing if it works.   If you only have a single HDD, there is no good way to test your recovery media, since they overwrite your original HDD.

  • Satellite A660-13Q - Error when opening recovery media creator

My problem is that: When I try to open the TOSHIBA Recovery Media Creator application gives me the next error: "CAN NOT get information from the disk controller" with the options Accept or Cancel, when Accept then gives the next error --> "there has been an unexpected error. out of this application and restart it. Error code: 0d00f6-49-00000001" then accept next error "there has been an unexpected error. out of this application and restart it. Error code: 0D0172-49-00000001" Then accept, the application open correctly.
Please, I need a solucion of the errors, Thanks.

    Hey,
I dont know what to say but fact is you cant start Toshiba recovery disk creator there is not much what you can do because you cant download this program on official Toshiba website.
In your case I would try to recover your notebook to factory settings using HDD recovery option:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD1303440001R02.htm
After this create the recovery disk again before you install any new software or something else.
I could also imagine that you installed another program that blocks recovery disk creator but its hard to say about this so try HDD recovery and see what happens.

  • Problem in creating recovery media disks

I tried to create the recovery media and i am getting the message "Resources required by this application are already in use. Please retry after the other application completes". Can any one help me to solve this issue? I haven't created the recovery disk so far. Your help is much appreciated.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Been in touch with tech support about this. They said they'd call back to propose a solution but they didn't call, so after a few days I called back and found they'd closed the call and dispatched the recovery disks to me.
Just to add, my sister has an n200, its 8 months old, and has no problem creating the factory recovery media. But Its running version 4.0 of the rescue and recovery software, whereas I am running 4.21. Wondering if it was a problem with the latest version, I tried uninstalling version 4.21 on my new machine and installing the older version downloaded from the Lenovo site, but the RR app just plain wouldn't start at all.
It could be a problem with the latest release, so an update in the future could fix it.

  • Portg Z30-A-182 - Recovery Media Creator Error

    Hi,
I have a brand new Portg Z30-A-182, have installed my office and virusscan and now want to create a set of Recovery DVD's using Recovery Media Creator.
    I use a Samsun external DVD-writer and DVD+RW disc's.
I keep getting the error 0E01BA-49-00000000 when the software wants to start writing to the DVD.
I searched the internet and this seems an error which occurs frequently and does not get solved using other type of discs.
How do I solve this error ?
I saw that I can BUY a set of recovery discs with Toshiba online, but that can not be the purpose with a brand new pc ???

Can you plese test functionality when you try to create recovery USB stick?
I have machine without ODD too and I have created recovery USB. It is for me more komfortable than using DVDs.
By the way: in the past i have created recovery DVDs using DVD-R medias only.
    Check also this thread.

  • Satellite A300 - I can't find the recovery disk creator

    Hi everybody!
Need some help with my Satellite A300. I lost the optical recovery disc I burned when the laptop was new. Now when I'm trying to burn a new recovery disc I can't find the Recovery Disc Creator - not on the desktop or in the Start meny. I still have the folder with all the recovery files left - a folder named HDDRecovery with size 4.5 GB. The problem is to find out how to burn the disc.
    Can anyone help?
    //iMate, Sweden

    Hello
F8 will works just if you didnt change anything with first partition and if you still use factory settings.
"Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator" cannot be gone for no reason. Either you have removed it from the system or you have installed own Vista OS.
I don't want to speculate why you cannot use F8 anymore but fact is that for new Vista installation you need recovery DVD.
You can order one under https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

  • Recovery Media Creator Failed continuiously for Satellite C670

I am at my wits end I have tried everything possible, read the heip manual and shut down everything possible, sleep modes and all and still no luck. The errors I am getting are:
    failed to burn: bin backup.ini
    failed to burn: checkmaxptsize.exe
I am tired of wasting DVD-R's 10 of them so far. Will Toshiba sell me recovery disks? But I would like to really know why my Recovery Media Creator is not working.

    There are two possible issues:
Either the CD/DVD drive laser lens is dirty and cannot handle all disk properly or the disks are not fully compatible.
Would recommend cleaning the laser lens using an cotton wool tip and alcohol in most cases its good enough to cleaning the lens
Furthermore try to use other disks from different brands..
TDK R disks or Verbatim R are good never had any problems using it
