Problem with the special character '&'

Hi,
I am facing problem with special character '&' in report files. When I run the report locally(report builder), i am getting the data printed with '&' correctly. But if I execute same report thr' the application, via application server, I am getting the data printed with "&:". It is not displaying &. Please suggest me how to overcome this problem.
'ADP & Liablility' is printed as 'ADP &: Liablility' in the web. We are not sending any value thr' the url. This is just a report title. Taking the value from the database and printing it.
Appreciate the quick response.
Thanks and Regards,

    Hi,
    Which device type is used to create the PDF? i.e. which deivce type is used in the OTF data that is converted to PDF? If you use device type PDFUC or SWINCF, then it should work fine. (see SAP not #999712 about unicode PDF conversion)

    Hi Andres,
    I've seen this situation before with several characters that don't display in certain fonts even though font.canDisplay(char) evaluates true.
    For example, Courier New (among many others) and \u20ac . (I don't know why this is?)
    Anyway, use the Ariel Unicode MS font and it will display.

  • Problem with the EURO character

    I can't see the Euro character and I don't understand why. I use the symbol \u20AC and it doesn't work. I have use some fonts which allow the symbol but I only get a white space or nothing.
    I haven't tried to print it but I'll try. This problem happens trying to show in JLabels or JTextFields.
    Does anyone know what's wrong?
    I'm working with JDK 1.3.

  • How to use the special character pallet in Maverics with Illustrator

    How to use the special character pallet in Mavericks with Illustrator - I follow the help instructions, but the pasted in object looks like a rectangle with an X, I have done this before, in earlier versions of AI, but cannot make it work in CS6.
    In fact, I can open an old AI file (CS4), copy the character (a graphic symbol, also taken from the special character set), paste it in, and it works, but can't do this with a new one, from the drop down, Show Character Viewer, in the Mavericks menu bar.

    The box with an X indicates the font you are using does not have the glyph you are trying to paste. Try a different font.

    thanks for ur time and effort that u gave to reply to my problem.
    But my main problem is that when my application (VC++ 7) fires the following query in the oracle database , it does not return any rows.
    SELECT count(*) FROM ORGANISATION WHERE UPPER(ORGANISATION.ORGANISATIONNAME)
    LIKE N'&#946;%' ORDER BY ORGANISATION.ORGANISATIONNAME
    the above question in the previous thread was just to check on sql plus as it's editor does not support unicode characters.

  • Mysql problem with german special characters

    hi,
    I wrote a software and it worked quite good, but after I installed it on a new machine with j2se 1.4 I've problems with the german special characters.
    this code works good on the old machine (jdk 1.3.1) and prints the wanted characters like ,,.
    Class.forName("org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver").newInstance();
    java.sql.Connection conn;
    conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:mysql://localhost/testdb?user=testuser&password=xxxx");
    Statement s = conn.createStatement();
    ResultSet r = s.executeQuery("select something from testtb where id='1'");
    r.first();
    System.out.println( r.getString(1) );
    but on the new machine (j2se 1.4) I only receive the character ?.
    I updated my org.gjt.mm.mysql to the current MySQL Connector/J 3.0.9 and added
    conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:mysql://localhost/testdb?user=testuser&password=xxxx&useUnicode=true&characterEncoding=ISO-8859-1");
    but I've got still the same problem.

  • Problem with Icelandic special characters on Mac

    Hello
    I am working on a Flash publication for students, and I want it to run on Mac as well as PC. Everything goes fine, except a problem with three special characters in my language, Icelandic. I am working on a registration and login page where I am using text boxes and text input boxes. Everything looks correct on PC, but on Mac the characters Þ Ð Ý are lost.
    I have tried different fonts etc.
    Any idea what is wrong?
    Jónas Helgason

    Hello Jónas,
    Did you ever figure this out ?
    I have a similar problem except only with two letters (both upper and lower case).  These two Icelandic letters can't be entered into a Flex TextInput box in the Flex apps I am creating when they are loaded on a Mac.  The letters are known as &Eth, &eth, &Thorn and &thorn in HTML terminology.  Typing these characters on the keyboard results in the following:  { [ ? /
    However I can copy the characters in question from some other app like TextEdit and paste them into a TextInput box in my Flex app and all is well, they show up correctly.
    This happens regardless of the Mac browser used and the Flash plugin version used (have tried both 9 and 10) and also happens in the standalone Flash Player application.
    Does anyone have any idea how to fix this or is this a bug in Flash Player ?  This is really annoying as it makes text input into Flex apps on Icelandic Macs very difficult.
    There must be something wrong with the mapping of keyboard key codes into character codes on the Mac that is causing this.
    Btw, I just heard from a friend that this problem does not exist in MacOS 10.6.  I am running 10.4 and have tested this on 10.5 and it exists on both of those OS versions.

  • Selecting with a special character

    Hi,
    I have a table in which an user can query via a sql prompt (accept) for a text he wants to search for. This search string can contain special characters like @,$,& etc but nog on a specific position. Sometimes they search for bbbb.hhhh_23, the next time the search for pppp & xxxx. I already thought that (double) quoting would help, tried escaping (\) also but still got errors with my procedure. So, how can I search those tables with the special chars and display the text the user is searching for?
    Thanks!
    Paul

    Hi,
    Please see the forum FAQ {message:id=9360002}
    What exactly is the problem you're having?
    What input are you giving, and what output are you expecting? Remember, you need to post something that the poeple who want to help you can run to re-create the problem and test their ideas. In this case, you need to post something like this:
    "I'm running this in schema ATL5_TEST, which includes this table: CREATE TABLE TABLE_X ... with these rows: INSERT INTO table_x ....
    When I run the script and set &search to 'A_B', I'm expecting these results ... because ... but instead, I'm getting these results ... As you can see, the results are missing ....
    When I run the script and set &search to 'C%D', I'm expecting ... because ... but instead, I get this error message: ..."
    Simplify the script as much as possible. For example, if the problem involves how to accept a certain character into a substitution variable, then you don't need to post 60 lines of PL/SQL code, even if your goal is to use that substitution vaiable in that PL/SQL code. Just post the ACCEPT statement, maybe a very simple "SELECT ... FROM dual;" query to get some results, a couple of inputs, and the expected outputs/
    Never write, let alone post, unformatted code. Indent the code to show the scope of BEGIN, IF, LOOP, and so on.
    When posting any formatted text (including, but not limited to, code) on this site, type these 6 characters:
    \(all small letters, inside curly brackets) before and after each section of formatted text, to preserve spacing.
    The EXCEPTION section you're using is only hiding details about the error.  Get rid of it.
    Whenever you write dynamic SQL, start by displaying the SQL string *instead of* executing it.  for exampledbms_output.put_line (v_sql || ' = v_sql before EXECUTE IMMEDIATE');
    -- execute immediate v_sql
    -- into v_match_count;
    When you get this much running, and the output is what you expect, then you can uncomment the EXECUTE IMMEDIATE statement.  Later, you'll want to comment out the call to put_line.

  • I am having a strange problem with the awesome bar

    The awesome bar/location bar is no longer as awesome as it used to be. When I start typing in an address it seems like it no longer checks through my history and gives a list of possible matches but just gives the stem of an address. For example, if I type in 'goo' it will complete this to 'google.com' if I then append this with an '/a' it will complete this to 'google.com/analytics' but that's as good as it gets, as I say, no list from the history or bookmarks.
    I've checked the options and also about:config and all the settings are as they should be, as far as I can tell (and I certainly hadn't changed any of them when it started misbehaving). I've also disabled all extensions and plug-ins.
    It's driving my slightly bonkers because I quite often use sites with long addresses and can't remember each of the components of each address. I'd switch to using Chrome but I also use Firebug a fair bit so don't really want to do this.

    Hi cowtan, <br/>Sorry you are having problems with the awesome bar.
    I imagine the new behaviour may be reversed by changing some pref but I have not looked that up.
    Regardless of the new behaviour you seem to have some fault as my awesomebar still gives bookmarked items.
    As a troubleshooting step try adding an asterisk in the awesomebar (as first character or anywhere) that should then filter the results in the dropdown list to bookmarked only items, does that work ?
    * see [[Search your bookmarks, history and tabs with the Awesome Bar#w_changing-results-on-the-fly]]_changing-results-on-the-fly
    You possibly have some extension interfering with the awesome bar, try Firefox in safe mode (but do NOT* at this stage try the Reset Firefox option)
    <nowiki>*</nowiki>'''edit''' - personal opinion, if a user; such as you; is knowledgeable enough to use ''about.config'' the easy solution of ''FirefoxReset ''is probably not the best route, as it can have unwanted side effects that are avoidable.
    * [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]]
    Do your bookmarked items appear in safe mode ?
    <u>Try a new Profile.</u><br/>The best method for troubleshooting this will be to set up a new Firefox profile, you can then: experiment, troubleshoot, alter settings or extensions installed in that profile without changing and potentially damaging your current profile.
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Manager#Creating_a_new_profile
    I suggest to prevent unexpected problems you
    * use a sensible name such as test 2012 for the profile name
    * ensure an empty folder is used & do not then rename or delete the new profile (instead add or delete shortcuts to it)

  • Problem with printing in character mode

    Hi
    I got a genuine problem in printing continous payslips using character mode with a TALLY6050 printer.
    I guess there is a problem with the page setup when i try to print via windows. using different sizes of paper (Letter, A4, A3), the printed data is shifting from one page to another but the shift is following a same trend.
    i tried to put one payslip per page using page breaks, but in vain. Three payslips are being printed on one page when viewed in the print perview.
    Can anyone suggest any help or tips so that i can solve this problem?
    Thanks for your help
    Bhavish

    Thanks for your response.  I went ahead and filed a Correction Action Request for your orignal issue, since I was able to reproduce the same behavior when I ran your VI.  The solution of printing the front panel of a subVI displaying the same graph is a workaround for this problem. Please look at the following KnowledgeBase for more details on how to do this.  Hope this helps!

  • How to allow the special character in folder or filename

    when i add the special character "&" in folder or file name it gives following error
    "The file or folder name "P&A" contains invalid characters. Please use a different name. Invalid characters include the following: ~ " # % & * : < > ? / \ { | }. The name cannot begin or end with dot and cannot contains consecutive dots."
    how can i allow these character in folder or file name.
    waiting

    Hello to everybody
    It's ok for the ~ " # % & * : < > ? / \ { | } characters, they cannot be allowed,
    but in a lot of languages there are letters like  è é à ù ò that are accepted for path and/or filename;
    how to allow these characters? Moss indexes them but when doing some searches and clicking on these files, in the new internet explorer windows the file cannot be opened abd examining the url the è é à ù ò are replaced with other character.
    Thanks in advance to everybody

  • Problem with the Non-English Characters

    Hello,
    I have been using Adobe Illustrator  but I have a huge problem with the non-english characters with Standart Fonts. With the Professional font's I have no problem with them. But when I'm using any standart font in font folio library I cannot type any "ğ-İ-ş". I can add those letters in fontlab with the glyphs (scedilla, idotaccent, gbreve). Most of the fonts have those letters already prepeared so I dont even have to redraw. But I can't add those glyph to every single font because I dont have that kind of time and patience. Is there any better solution for this? Or is there any font folio pack that all fonts are PRO.
    I'm looking forward for your answers
    Thanks.

    Joel wrote: I'm told that this is the exact difference between Adobe's Standard and Pro fonts — the Pro fonts have additional glyphs, including those necessary for extended Latin script.
    Exactly. The Pro fonts have at a minimum the Adobe Western 3 character set, which is essentially western European + Adobe CE.
    > Standard fonts just have the basic English character set, with maybe a bit of help for Spanish and French.
    A lot more than that!
    > You're doing Turkish, right? Adobe's coverage for Turkish in its fonts is not great - some of the Pro fonts have Turkish coverage, many do not.
    This is false. Every single Adobe Pro font supports Turkish.
    To be clear:
    All Adobe Standard fonts support the following languages: Afrikaans, Basque, Breton, Catalan, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, Gaelic, German, Icelandic, Indonesian, Irish, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Sami, Spanish, Swahili and Swedish.
    Adobe Pro fonts support those languages, plus AT LEAST: Croatian, Czech, Estonian, Hungarian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Polish, Romanian, Serbian (Latin), Slovak, Slovenian and Turkish. Some Pro fonts have more language support than this, such as Greek and/or Cyrillic, and additional extended Latin.
