Problem with Thomson router?

Hello, I use a Thomson 585 v8 router. It works fine, UNTIL I connect to it my mac book pro (running 10.9.2). Then, ALL other devises (iPad, mac mini, all windows devises) drop the connection!! I tried everything. Any further ideas to try??
Thanks, Tassos

Hello, tassosp.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I would try adjusting your router settings to recommended settings in the article below.  Make sure to also check for router firmware updates.

I need advise and help with this problem .
First , I have been with Mac for many years ( 14 to be exact ) I do have some knowledge and understanding of Apple product .
At the present time I'm having lots of problems with the router so I was looking in to some info , and come across one web site regarding : port forwarding , IP addresses .
In my frustration , amongst lots of open web pages tutorials and other useless information , I come across innocent looking link and software to installed called Genieo , which suppose to help with any router .
Software ask for permission to install , and about 30 % in , my instinct was telling me , there is something not right . I stop installation . Delete everything , look for any
trace in Spotlight , Library . Nothing could be find .
Now , every time I open Safari , Firefox or Chrome , it will open in my home page , but when I start looking for something in steed of Google page , there is
''search.genieo.com'' page acting like a Google . I try again to get raid of this but I can not find solution .
With more research , again using genieo.com search eng. there is lots of articles and warnings . From that I learn do not use uninstall software , because doing this will install more things where it come from.
I do have AppleCare support but its to late to phone them , so maybe there some people with knowledge , how to get this of my computer
Any help is welcome , English is my learned language , you may notice this , so I'm not that quick with the respond

Genieo definitely doesn't help with your router. It's just adware, and has no benefit to you at all. They scammed you so that they could display their ads on your computer.
    To remove it, see:
    http://www.thesafemac.com/arg-genieo/
Do not use the Genieo uninstaller!

  • Connection problems with WRT54G Router PLEASE HELP!!!!

    Hello all,
Im having a huge issue and im hoping that someone can help me. Awhile ago i changed what i believe to be my router settings using 192.168.1.1 and i believe i added WEP secuirty. I changed my password i know that much. Anyway my problem is this - When i try connecting a router to my computer, i cannot access the internet OR the 192.168.1.1 setup. I just get a yellow caution sign on my wireless settings (running Windows 7), but when i connect my cable modem (Comcast) to my computer, i can access the internet. I have reset both the router and my cable modem MANY times (hard resets) and STILL cannot get the setup page for the router. I have TWO WRT54G rourters and BOTH do the same thing when connected to my desktop , yet BOTH work fine on an old machine running XP, so it is something i did with this computer. Can someone please help me solve this issue? any hlep would be appreciated as i am stumped and do not know how to fix this and cannot use WI-FI or my Xbox 360 until i can fix this..Thanks.

Check the IP address of your computer and see if it's in range with the router's IP.

  • Problems with Wireless Router and Adapter

I tried posting this in the wireless adapter forum but nobody responded :-(
    I'm using a WRT54G Router btw, and the firmware is v2.02.7, Feb. 27, 2004.
    Hi everyone,
I have a Linksys Wireless G Router and several computers that I try to connect with. One of them is a computer running Windows XP and using a Linksys Wireless USB B Adapter (WUSB11). Another is a laptop running Mandriva Linux using a Linksys Instant Wireless Network PC Card (WPC11). Another one is running Windows Vista and using a Linksys Wireless N card. I also have a laptop running Windows XP using a Linksys Wireless-G Notebook Adapter (WPC54G).  I also have another PC running Windows XP and uses a Linksys Wireless USB Adapter WUSB54G. Finally, I have two macintosh laptops running OSX and with airport devices installed.
Anyway, I have problems with my internet connection frequently being interrupted and even sometimes I won't have a connection at all for hours. This occurs with my Linux laptop, the PC with the Wireless B Adapter, and the laptop using the Wireless G Notebook Adapter. In addition to this, the macintosh laptops have internet even more infrequently. However, I seem to never have a problem with the Windows Vista desktop or the Windows XP desktop that has the Wireless G adapter. I try repairing the connection and often it does not work. I have also tried resetting the router and the cable modem. I'm not sure what else I can do. I even bought a Wireless N router and had little success with that. We even went as far as moving the wireless router upstairs into our living room, thinking that the signal was somehow suffering from interference or that distance was a factor. Anyway, sorry for the long post but I could really use some help!
    Thanks.

Hi… logon to wireless N router’s setup page, open I.E. an in the address bar type 192.168.1.1 it would ask for username and password, put "admin" as a paassword (default password) without any username...linksys setup pops up, click on on wireless tab and and try changing radio band to wide 40MHz, wide channel to 9 and wireless standard channel to 1 or 11, go to advanced wireless settings reduce beacon interval to 50, fragmentation and RTS threshold to 2304, change N Transmission rate to 270 MBps…also try upgrading latest firmware on router, check whether it makes any difference or not and let me know.

  • Problems with WRT350N Router

I have had a WRT350N router since they first came out and have had the same problems with it the entire time. I have 2 systems with static IP's, 1 wireless B (dhcp) 2 wireless G (DHCP), and 4 wired devices. (1 Gigabit, 1 10 Base, and 2 100 Base)
    1. After the unit has been powered on for a while (a day or so) The DHCP server quits giving IP addresses. (DHCP server unreachable messages)
    2. Unable to use the restore config feature. (file uploads and seems to apply yet no changes are actually made.)
    3. QOS locks up router. If I try to set up QOS the router has to be reset to factory defaults.
I have kind-of just dealt with it, but the DHCP thing is really bothersome. I have to go in the room with all of my network equipment and power cycle the thing to get an internet connection, that raises the possibility that I will have to reset the other devices.

I am seriously reconsidering returning my WRT350N for another N-based router.   The current firmware is not stable.   I have had a WRT54G V1 and WRT54G V5 for years and never had a signel issue.    Just to make sure I didn't get a bad unit I returned for another so I know it isn't hardware related.
    1) DDNS not updating.  This has always worked on my WRT54G's without issue
    2) XBOX 360 wouldn't stay connect to Live.   Changing MTU size seems to 1365 make more stable
    3) Storage support works for a while and then stops or randomly freezes unit.
    4) FTP changes require unit to be manually rebooted for changes to take effect.
Really hope a new firmware release is soon.  I love the features of the 350N but
it is not a very stable router at this point.   If DD-WRT releases a firmware that has the storage gui enabled might take a look there but at this point I am frustrated with the unit.

  • Problems With Linux Router

I have a RaspberryPi and I want to turn it into a router just for the hell of it. I've attempted this multiple times but always get stuck and say "screw it" since my roommates would bitch at me because they can't get on the internet. Now I live by myself and want to get it to work.
I've followed the Router page in the wiki but I only have internet access from the Pi itself. I had a few problems but I think I fixed them. My main problem now is that DHCP doesn't offer IP addresses. During bootup Arch tells me that it failed to start my private interface (eth0), while looking at the journal it says this because the interface is already up (don't know why) and it doesn't get an ip address. I would like to assign it a static address of 192.168.1.1 but I'm not sure how to do so.
If I set a static address for eth0 (my internal interface) and try to get an IP address from another computer it doesn't offer me one. If I set a static address on the other PC, I can ping the Pi from the PC and vice versa so I know that's good, but if I try to ping an external IP from the PC (such as Google's DNS server 8.8.8.8 which responds to pings) it gives me "destination host unreachable", yet I can ping it just fine from the Pi.
I'm using a Cisco E3200 router with Tomate by Shibby as a switch and WAP with the routing/DHCP/DNS features turned off. I don't believe that the E3200 is the problem.
Any suggestions on why this isn't working?

Thanks for the info, but I need to get DHCP working since I'm going to have a few other devices on the network that won't have static address (phones, tablets, friend's devices, etc...).

I was going to say that too, but I didn't want to poke the bear. My problems aren't really architecture dependent, they're just general networking problems.

  • Connection problem with EA3500 router

System consists of cable modem connected to EA3500 dual router and also have a Linksys range extender.  Have several wireless devices including desktop PC, cell phones, and tablets that all connect to wireless network without any problem.  Have password set up on system.  Having a problem with one Acer laptop - when I view my wireless connections I can see HOME and HOME-EXT and it will connect fine with the EXT (range extender) signal but will not connect with the base router that is shown as HOME even though the home connection shows a stronger signal that the ext link.  Have checked to make sure that router password is correct - laptop will sometimes connect to HOME for a few seconds and then display "limited connection"
No problems with wireless connections with any other devices.  Have rebooted everything in the system with no luck.
Have also tried deleting HOME connection and then reconnecting it.
    Any suggestions?
Thanks for any help that anyone may offer.

On the laptop did you try to forget the HOME network and reconnect?

  • Problem with Linksys Router Model WRT110 Not Assigning IPs With DHCP?

    Hello,
I recently purchased this router (WRT110) to take the place of my old Belkin that was continually dropping connections (which was a real pain when trying to download stuff off the Internet).
However, I cannot get this router to assign IPs to wired or wireless computers. I spent around 2 hours talking to Linksys support technicians (two total) before they finally told me the router was defective.
So, I went back to the store and got an exchange. But, it's the same story with this router, the connections can't get past the "acquiring network address" stage in the connection process.
I would like to think that this has more to do with my ISP than the router, but if I set up a static IP on the wired computer I can connect to the Internet and the router through its default gateway. Setting up a static IP on the wireless computer doesn't seem to work, however. If the ISP was a problem, wouldn't the router not detect the Internet connection at all?
DHCP is definitely enabled on the router also.
My ISP is a small town owned company. I have a wireless broadband connection, which works similarly to satellite, only the connection is broadcast via a tower and is received with an outside antenna.
I still need to contact them about this, but I figured it could hurt to ask here and see some of your suggestions.
    Thank you!
    ~RJG

UPDATE: I contacted my ISP today and the technician I spoke with said he didn't know of any problems any routers would have with their wireless broadband. I tend to agree with him, as I've configured two routers previously using my connection and I've never had any difficulty until now. He suggested changing the ethernet cable and releasing/renewing my IP address, both of which I did but I continued to have the same issues.
But, after doing some more research I found some settings that actually allowed my wireless computer to connect. There was a post in these forums referring to modifying the MTU, changing it from Auto to Manual and changing the value to 1458 actually seemed to work, as well as strengthening the connection by changing the beacon interval. Anyway, I can connect wirelessly now.
Also, I connected my Linux computer (Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron) to the router and was able to connect instantly, no problems whatsoever. So, out of my three computers, two are connecting, but my wired Windows computer is still having issues. However, if I set a static IP for that computer, I can connect fine.
I'm thinking maybe there is something wrong with the NIC card in that computer, but how would one test something like that?
It doesn't make sense to me, I would really appreciate any input. Thank you!

  • TRYING TO SET UP I PAD TO HP AIR PRINTER HAD PROBLEMS WITH ,TALKTALK ROUTER, ASKED AT PC WORLD ADVISED TO BY AIRPORT EXPRESS BUT STILL NO LUCK WILL NOT COMPLETE SET UP. THOUGHT THIS WOULD REPLACE THE ROUTER, I THINK I MAY HAVE BEEN WRONGLY ADVISED

Having problems with air printer to i pad, problem seems to lie with talktalk router, hp solutions managed to get i mac to air printer working but not i pad, adivsed to buy another router as talktalk is not compatiable with bonjour. Went to PC world apple department advised to by airport express. tried setting it up using but will not finalise. i was led to believe this would replace the talktalk router? i feel i have been sold the wrong thing. Any suggestions

This happened to me when I was setting up the wireless router for a friend.  The issue is with the Westall modem.  You need to go in and setup the "bridge" option on the westell modem.  The link below gives directions or you can call bellsouth dsl support (this is how I learned about it).
    http://help.bellsouth.net/bellsouth/asp/contentview.asp?isbrowse=true&sprt_cid=3f993409%2Ddff7%2D422...
    Good luck
    Solution:
    Method 1 - Hard Reset
Restore the modem to default settings by pressing the Reset button on the back of the modem and holding it for 3 seconds. (Bridged mode is the default setting for the Westell).
After the modem regains sync, it is in Bridged mode. Do not attempt to surf into the modem as surfing into the modem will enable the Easy Login page and convert the modem from bridged mode to a PPP mode.
    Method 2 – Bridged Mode
Access the Westell interface using http://192.168.1.254 or http://launchmodem.
Click on the Broadband DSL Line button.
    Click on the Protocols button
Select the radio button to the left of Option 2 (Bridge)
Click the save button. Once the modem has restarted it is in bridge mode.

  • Problems with my router cisco linksys wrt110 and my android cellphone and android table

i updated my router from 1.0 to 1.07 and one week later my phone and my tablet both with android 2.3(phone) 4.0(tablet) connect to the router wireless but don't navigate internet, they connect to google.com  sometimes and if i do a search it bring it but if i try to open any of the search it doesn't open. and they connect to google play but doesn't download any app. if i open any app that needs to connect to internet it doesn't connect either. My wife has a blackberry phone and she doesn't have problem with internet connecting to the wifi router, i have a pc with windows 7 and connect wireless too and either connect to internet without problems. It's only happen with android. i download terminal app and i ping different web pages and respond by name and by ip but when i go to internet app and try to connect it doesn't bring the page. i don't have firewall and the firewall of the router i disble it but the problem persist.
i factory reset the router and my phone but problem persist. i set static ip and nothing. my cellphone and tablet connect to internet fine in others wifi routers. What else can i do? should i downgraded the firmware to the router? if it is so where can i download a previous version of the firmware and what are the steps to install it?

If the other wireless devices are working fine connected to the router, then it might be that the Android phones and tablet needed to be configured properly. Had you tried to use another web browser on the problem phone and tablet to further isolate the issue? Had you tried to connect the phone and tablet to other wireless network and check if you still have the same issue? Please try to make sure that you are connected to the router’s main wireless network. And please try to delete preferred wireless networks, including your wireless network, on the phone and then try to reconnect.

  • Problems with WRT610N router

I purchased a WRT610N router yesterday, to replace my aging WRT54G, that I've been using until now to support a laptop, desktop, Xbox360 and PS3.
From opening the box, I've had problems.  The LELA software wouldn't recognize my network card....an nVidia nForce network adapter.  It kept giving me an error 312.  I called Linksys support yesterday, and spend four hours repeately rebooting and power cycling my router, unplugging it, etc.  None of this helped...despite logging directly into the router, we were unable to get it to connect to my ISP.  It persistently failed to form a PPPoE connection.
Finally, the support rep advised returning it to the store, and getting a new one.  I did that, and tonight, the new one did the same thing.  I googled, and found articles indicating that LELA has had compatibility issues with the nVidia networking card.  I advised the support agents of what I'd found, but they insisted that the router has no problem with the nVidia card.
I decided to experiment, and installed an AOPEN AON-325 ethernet card, and LELA now picks up the card fine.  I then attempted to connect, but had no luck.    I've spent the better part of tonight talking to support, talking to my ISP, and trying numerous things....cloning my MAC address, switching my Alcatel Speed Touch modem to a bridge, power cycling, but nothing works.
Are there compatibility issues between the 610N router and either my networking card, or my modem?  Has anyone run into these problems?
I know my internet connection is working, because as soon as I unplug the cables from the 610, and hook them back up to my 54G, everything works perfectly.
At this point my ISP is going to send me a new modem, as my Speed Touch is almost 9 years old.  If this doesn't fix the problem, then I don't know what the issue is.
I googled alcatel speed touch modem and WRT610, and even found some message boards with dutch users who have the same combo, and are having no success in connecting with the WRT610N.
    Has anyone had similar problems?
    Thanks

I`m at the same page of PLEFROAD...
I bought my new WRT610N router (appears on box: N ULTRAPLUS SIMULTANEOUS DUAL-N BAND... WIRELESS ROUTER... ENTERTAINMENT ROUTER FOR FASTER GAMING, MUSIC AND HD VIDEOS... AND A LOT OF BLAH, BLAH AND BLAH) when you read that you think by yousel: wow this is the one that I really need!
So I bring to my home. The setup is so easy... Just setup.
Second day = NO WIRELESS CONNECTION... Ok, I thought by myself: I did the setup, so I did wrongly. Then I start again. I reseted the (WRT610N THE BEST ROUTER EVER)... and set it up again... RESULT = WIRELESS OK.
Third day: sometimes NO CONNECTION. OK, I thought probably it is my modem, of course I just bought (and is a Linkys brand too - CM 100). Then I called to Comcast and I wasted my time trying fixed nothing. So I got sad and I went to my bed.
Forth day = The connection was bad just for little time.
Fifth day = I gave up
Sixth day = I gave up again.
Seventh day = I was injured of couse.
Eighth day = I WASTED ABOUT TWO HOURS WITH TECHNICAL SUPPORT.
Now I don`t know which is anymore... But I WASTED PRECIOUS TIME WITH A TECHNICAL SUPPORT because theoretically I have "THE BEST ROUTER EVER", SO I WANTED USE ALL FEATURES. I TRYED TO KNOW HOW TO ACCESS MY EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE THROUGHT INTERNET... RESULT = I WASTED MORE TIME.
I CHATTED WITH GOOD THECNICIANS... BUT YOU KNOW THEY WORK WITH LINKSYS, SO THEY CAN`T NOT TELL THAT YOU JUST BOUGHT A TRASH! So they try to fix the problem or just between the lines written that you`re not knowing how to connect your product.
Now I have the third problem: I just win for my birthday one WINDOWS MEDIA EXTENDER - ANOTHER LINKSYS (DMA2100).... I`M AFRAID... MY GIRLFRIEND IS GOING TO BE UPSET BUT I DON`T KNOW IF GOING TO USE.
NOW I HAVE A QUESTION FOR ALL.
WHAT I HAVE TO DO WITH MY ROUTER? IT IS NOT WORKING  AND THE TIME TO RETURN IS OVER!
OR UNTILL WHEN EVERYONE HAVE TO WAIT TO LINKSYS HELP EVERYBODY.
    GOD BLESS YOU ALL.
    MUCHFRUSTRATED.

  • Problems with WRT310N router

Ok so Im having troubles installing my router, Ill just tell you whats what first off to get things out of the way.
The PC in our office was where the router is situated so I had upgraded to the WRT310N Router maybe 6 months ago, it had 1 PC hardwired to it from the basement and a wireless connection to a laptop(so 2 desktop PCs and a laptop). Some minor problems with the wireless connections but I wasnt too concerned as its used in my music studio. Recently the computer in the office had died so thats where the software for the router had been installed, the connection worked fine for the PC downstairs as with the laptop, heres where the trouble comes into play.
So I had decided to install the software for the router on the downstairs PC, as soon as it gets to the "plug it into the wall outlet" screen it sits there then reports that there was a problem with it by either me having my old router hooked up or a "bad gateway(optional or something to that effect)". At first I thought maybe it was because I had set up a static IP and forwarded my ports in the router settings through 192.168.1.1., I then reset it back the factory settings but now Im stuck. I figured maybe I should install the LELA to access the update tab but couldnt.
So now my router is nothing more then $100 paper weight due to myself not finding anything relatable on the forums. I had thought updating my network cards driver...nothing, I downloaded the firmware for the router...I have no idea on what a .bin file is nor are there any instructions on how to install it or waht to do with it, all I could come up with was that it can regonize a connection but theres no internet connection being allowed. Any ideas????
Also my ISP cant do anything

My ISP is Shaw Cable and I live in Canada, the only thing I can think of is that I had reset it back the factory settings but even out of the box it worked.

  • Wireless printing problems with Asus router RT-N56U and HP8500

Neew MacBookPro with Lion. Also have HP 8500a 909a printer hooked up to an Asus router RT-N56U Google search indicates MANY problems with HP printers being used with wireless Mac, even with Airport. Of course we know HP is one of the worse customer support companies on earth,, so I came here in hopes to find a solution. I updated my mac and firmware for router. The Mac doesn't find any printers wirelessly at all. If I hook up with a cable it works fine.. Thanks

I own the RT-N56U (best router on the market hands-down), along with an HP LaserJet 1320, however it's connected via USB to my computer instead of the router. While it's true that HP don't have a terrific support record for Mac drivers in fairness it may be the Asus router causing the problem; if you Google "Asus RT-N56U" and "mac os x print server", you'll find complaints similar to yours from other users. From what I understand this is partly dependent on your printer and whether it supports network printing, and partly on compliance with the Asus router firmware. I Googled what appears to be a possible solution to configuring the Asus print server, however I haven't yet tested this myself:
