Problem with trackpad left-click

2 weeks ago my macbook pro 13 2011 trackpad click doesnt work,
it works sometimes and suddenly stop working and doesnt repond for long periods of time not even if I
restart o turn off the laptop...
How can I fix this problem??? its really making me get crazy

If your Macbook battery is removable and is located directly under your touchpad a bloated swollen battery could be the problem.  Try this:
Remove battery
Connect to magsafe power and boot up.
Try using your touchpad
If this fixes the problem you likely have a swollen or bloated lithium battery which can be dangerous.  My symptoms on my 15" late 2008 Macbook Pro were that the touchpad acted like it was stuck in drag mode.  The bottom left and right touchpad switches would not click or took great effort to press. I had to hit the touchpad very hard for a mouse click to be recognized.  It also screwed up opration of my bluetooth mouse. I noticed several months earlier the battery cover no longer closed tightly; there was a gap.   I should have been more curious as to why.

"Battery bloat or “swollen batteries” is a common occurrence among older lithium ion batteries. It is commonly caused by overcharging a battery and then leaving it unused for a long time. It may also be caused by extreme changes in temperature. More often than not, battery bloat essentially “kills” the battery, rendering it unusable or unsafe for further use."

  • Problems with the secondary click after updating to 10.7.4

    Hi there,
since my update to 10.7.4 on my MacBook Air I have a problem with the secondary click. I configured it to "click on right side", but some times and espacially after wake-up my MBA the secondary click is not working. So I have to switch to the System Preferences and remove the hook at secondary click and set it again. Than everything is working again.
Has some one the same problem or even know how to solve this?
    Thanks

I have had the issue with a Snow Leopard but never with Lion.
Can you go to System Preferences>Displays>Color and select your profile.
I had made 3 profiles and they are all still there and my iMac is still using the same one I previously selected

the user cor-el has a method that does not require any add-ons. He States
This code in userChrome.css will move "Open Link in New Window" to the top of the context menu.
    <pre>@namespace url("<a href="http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul">http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul</a>"); /* only needed once */
    #contentAreaContextMenu &gt; * { -moz-box-ordinal-group: 2; }
    #context-openlink { -moz-box-ordinal-group: 1 !important; }</pre>
the user jay_ff shows how to do it using the Menu Editor Add-on
    1. Install the Menu Editor add-on from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/menu-editor/ .
    2. After the installation, go to Firefox> add-ons (or simply use Ctrl+Shift+A)
    3. Go to the Menu Editor "Options"
    4. In the "Main context menu," simply grab the "Open link in New Tab" and place it below the "Open Link in New Window"
    5. and Voila! You may also change other menu options if you want to!
I tried jay_ff method first and found that indeed changing the Main Context Menu did cause the hotlink context menu to change as well.

  • Trackpad left click stopped working...bluetooth issue?

I have a new macbook pro 15" i7 for about 2 months, and I have a magic mouse and wireless keyboard too. Everything worked fine until yesterday, when I turned on the pc and the left click on the trackpad wouldn't work! Right click works, the cursor moves...only left click doesn't. I saw on a forum that if I turned off the computer and press optioncmd+rp when it starts it would reset PRAM and could work again, and so it did. But the next day the problem remained when I turned on the computer...just for the experience, I tried to turn off bluetooth, where my mouse and keyboard were connected, and the trackpad now fully works! Is this weird? I didn't have to turn off bluetooth for both mouse and trackpad to work... It must be some software problem, because when it first occurred me, I switched to my windows bootcamp partition and it works there!
    Sorry for the long text
    Cumps

I had this happen to me all of a sudden on my home iMac (2007) and my work 15" MBP (2010). I think it may be related to the multitouch trackpad in some way (probably/possibly the Magic Trackpad which I have paired both with my iMac and MBP). I started seeing multiple messages like this in Console:
    20-12-2010 11:29:40 kernel AppleUSBMultitouchDriver::_deviceGetReport - DeviceRequest for reportID 0x0 returned with result 0xe000404f - retrying
I had also seen a forum entry (don't remember where) theorizing that a USB device continually polling the bus might be filling up a buffer in some way and making the left click unresponsive.
For me, it looks like disconnecting the Magic Trackpad and reconnecting fixed everything without having to reboot. We'll see if it stays fixed. If you aren't using a USB keyboard/trackpad, then I'm not sure what to suggest since I don't think you can disconnect the built-in trackpad via software.
Anyway, in the mean time, keep System Preferences > Universal Access > Mouse & Trackpad > Mouse Keys accessible with the 'press the Option key 5 times' to activate option. This allows you to use the 7, 8, 9, u, o, j, k & l keys to move the cursor, and the i key to left-click. At least that way you can shut things down safely if things go haywire.
If anyone else is having these problems, please post so we can get to the bottom of it.
    Best of luck!

  • MBP 2008 Click disabled on trackpad, left click not working on mightymouse & wacom pen tablet.

    Hello,
    i have a problem with a Macbook pro 2008.
The trackpad click button is not working anymore
(i've already tried to remove the battery underneath and push the wire that's connected to the pad,
    nothing changed).
I've managed to sync a mightymouse, left click is disabled as well
    (but not right click).
Then i've tried with a wacom tablet. Right click works, but not left.
(also tested switching buttons, yet no left click).
    In conclusion :
left click is not functionning with any of the peripherals,
left & right click  are disabled on the trackpad.
I've also tried "tap to click" without success.
Does someone have any idea of what is happening?
And how could a have the left click back?
    Regards
    F

Since you have a 2014 MBP, by definition it is in the 1 year warranty period.  Make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar and have the technicians sort the unit out for you.
    Ciao.

But the trackpad is still enabled also after log out an in again.
The option in the "Universal Access" settings is not enabled as well.
How can I enable this option "ignore trackpad when mouse" without a mouse?

  • Hardware Problem with Trackpad?

    Hey Everyone,
I've had my MacBook Pro a little less than a year without any problems. While I was using the computer today, I can no longer physically click using my trackpad. All the other trackpad functions work. I can use the dragging option, but for resizing windows and other things, I would prefer to use the physical click. I've had no indication prior to this that there was a problem with the trackpad, and I have already tried restarting the computer a few times. Has anyone else had this problem or know of any solutions?
Thanks for all of your help!

I work as a repair tech, and just recently had a system come across my desk with identical symptoms. Replaced the trackpad and it worked great. If it's still in the initial warranty period, take it in to get that replaced.

  • Macbook Pro Trackpad Left Click Hold

Hello everyone, My MacBook Pro, after doing something to my trackpad my left click is held. This usually happens when I play minecraft and my left click is held. Does anyone know how this happens?
    Thanks

    Update on the situation:
    1) Reboot in Safe Mode (shift-key down at start-up) -- secondary click still shows the application switcher.
    2) Ran Onyx -- Execute the defaults (no others) in the Automation tab and after rebooting the issue still persists.
    3) I removed the Microsoft drivers from my system and all plist files -- and reinstalled the MS drivers. On first use of the right-button on the mouse, I got the same "secondary click" response that I get with the trackpad. Before the uninstall it had worked correctly. I remember looking at the MS Mouse config options and it showed the right button performing a control-click. Now, with the preferences at their defaults from the software removal and reinstallation, I see there is an option -- and it is the default option, that the right-mouse button performs a "secondary click".
So it isn't a trackpad or mouse issue, it is an issue that somehow the default system behavior for a secondary click has been changed from displaying the alternate menu to showing the application switcher.
So the question is, what application or utility changed that? I was evaluating the Apple Mighty Mouse a few months ago and decided against it -- the right sensor seemed to fail often. Did that have an option to modify the secondary-click? I have Google and searched for tersm like ["secondary click" setting change modification hack, etc] and haven't seen any mention of that ability -- but clearly on my machine under my main user account, this is happening.
I hope that helps get one step closer.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Can't open new tabs with double left click on tab bar in FF29.0.1?

I've always enjoyed how tabs work in FF, mainly with them being on the bottom (which I had to find a work-around for by making the userChrome.css file - the "about:config" modification no longer works) and also being able to double left click on the tab bar to create new tabs.
With the most recent update, double left clicking on the tab bar no longer has a function, and to create new tabs, I must now middle click. It's not a big deal really, but is there a way to change this back?
I searched through some options on the "about:config" page, searched "tab" and found an option there: "browser.tabs.opentabfor.middleclick" that seemed promising. I changed the value to "False" but it didn't change anything - in fact, middle clicking still creates new tabs.
I tried adding a modified function with "leftclick" in it, just to see if it might do anything but, nothing.
Any other suggestions for restoring the double left click function to create new tabs? Thanks!

    ''Hydrilus wrote:''
    browser.tabs.opentabfor.middleclick
If set to false, middle-clicking <u>links on web pages</u> opens them in a new window. It probably also affects bookmarks, history entries, and items in the address bar drop-down menu.

You need an add-on. Here are two I know about:
    * [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/classicthemerestorer/ Classic Theme Restorer]. In the add-on's option window, click the Special tab and check "Tabs toolbar: double click opens a new tab"
    * [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/tab-mix-plus/ Tab Mix Plus]. In the add-on's option window, click the Mouse icon, then the Mouse Clicking tab, then the Double-click tab below that. • There is a problem with the left headphone or stereo  headphone jack connection in the ipod touch 2nd generation

I have had my ipod touch 2nd generation for 3 yrs. Now its been a year with this problem but i never seem to get it fixed because i lost my warranty and repair certificate a year ago. So  the problem is whenever I put in a headphone jack for some reason only the right head phone or right speaker works not the left, but when i place the ipod on the docking port both speakers on my stereo work.
Now I have taken great care of this thing. Never lost it. I assume that a connection inside the jack port is pushed in from debrie (forgot how to spell that word)  because, I always place my ipod into my pocket. The only way to get the left speaker or headphone to work is to push on the headphone jack so it tilts, then the left speaker works; but when i release it the left speaker or headphone turns off or stop making sound. So i know its not wiring problems its the connection for the headphone jack to the ipods jack's connection for the left speaker. Though microphones work.
My question is can this be a DIY or do i have to take it in to a local apple store. Problem i lost the warranty and protection repair form or license 2 years ago. I have had no problems with my ipod at all these years until this problem has consisted to happen since last year.
    Anything?
    Thanks,
    Sigma119

  • Problems with trackpad

    problems with trackpad

Another possibility is that your trackpad is behaving erratically because of battery expansion. If you have one of the MacBooks with an easily removeable battery you can test for this by shutting down, removing the battery, connecting to your AC power adapter and starting up the MacBook. Test the trackpad.
Examine your battery for signs of expansion. If this is the case, replace the battery.
    Best of luck.

  • Can't download with a left click; but can download with right click

For some time now, and for no apparent reason, I am unable to download a file from a website with a simple click. When I attempt, the screen changes to dark grey and the URL of the linked file appears in the address bar, but nothing happens. If I go back and right click, then select "Download the linked file" the normal download window will open and the file downloads just fine. Any suggestions on how I can get Safari working like it used to work?
This happened in 10.5 and still happens in 10.6; with safari 3 and 4.

    Hi Daniel,
Did you check the settings for the track pad in system Preferences?
Did you try to trash the com.apple.Trackpad.plist I suppose that it is called like that.
Otherwise, use Spotlight to find the Trackpad preferences file.
