Problem with traffic over Remote Access VPN (Cisco ASA5505)
Hi
I've changed the VPN IP pool on a previously functioning VPN setup on a Cisco ASA5505, I've updated IP addresses everywhere it seemed appropriate, but now the VPN is no longer working. I am testing with a Cisco IPSec client, but the same happens with the AnyConnect client. Clients connect, but cannot access resources on the LAN. Split tunneling also doesn't work, internet is not accessible once VPN is connected.
I found a NAT exempt rule to not be correctly specified, but after fixing this, the problem still persists.

I've checked all the debug logs I could think of and tried various troubleshooting steps. Any ideas?

Hi
The bulk of the devices are not even routing through the ASA, internal devices such as IP phones, printers, etc. There is also large wastage of IP addresses which needs to be sorted out at some stage.
Outside IP address is 196.215.40.160. The DSL modem is configured as an LLC bridge.
Here are the debug logs when connecting if this helps at all. Nothing is logged when a connection is attempted though.
Regards
Lionel

Problems with WVC80N and remote access (TZO issue?)
I apologize for this "duplicate entry". I'm a newbie and I think I posted the below in a "Reply" to another Post. I'm learning.
I have a vacation home in the Sierras. I wanted a way to remotely check on the snow in the driveway. I have a Linsys WRT610N router that has been working for a year now. I recently purchased a WCV80N camera and installed it two weeks ago. I have SBC(ATT?)DSL service. PC runs Windows XP. I also subcribed to a plan with TZO for the remote monitoring.
While I was at the location of the camera, everything worked fine. When I left and tried to access the camera, most of the time I got the error message about the connection failing because it had "timed out". I could access the camera at odd hours, late night, weekend, etc.
I called TZO several times to describe the problem and each time they said: "are you at the location of the camera"!! Duh!! The rote answer was that it must be my problem. I'm back at the Sierra home and I've asked a friend to log in remotely. He has the same problem nearly all the time. While I am here at the camera location I can access the camera from the internal IP 192.xxx address. Access via the TZO MyLinksyscam.com log in is sporadic.
I checked the System log and there are multiple entries for: "UPnP: Internal Gateway UPnP discovery failure. Then the following: DDNS: No need to update IP address. And this goes on every 15 minutes, then the UPnP failure message.
Bottom line: Does this sound like "my problem" or TZO's???Sounds like you have the same problems that I had, but the problem is definitely not with TZO, it's your Router. Your Ports might be different than mine but this is what they told me to do:
think you need to open the ports for the cameras.
Follow these steps.
1) open the setup page of the camera IP 192.168.1.99. Click on 'Options' in the side panel. You will find ' Alternate Web Access Port '. If it is disabled then enable it enter the ' Port Number ' - 1024. Save the settings.
2) Open the setup page of the Camera IP 192.168.1.89. Click on 'Options' in the side panel. You will find ' Alternate Web Access Port '. If it is disabled then enable it enter the ' Port Number ' - 1025. Save the settings.
3) Now open the setup page of the router. Go to Applications and gaming. Click on Single port forwarding. If you have any applications there then delete all the applications or uncheck ' Enable'.
Now Go to Port Range triggering sub tab. If you have any application there then delete all the applications or uncheck 'Enable'. Go to DMZ sub tab and if it is enabled then Disable it.
4) Click on Port range Forwarding sub tab. In the application name type ' camera1' . In start and end port type 1024, protocol - both and enter the IP address 192.168.1.99. Check the box enable.
In second application type the name ' camera2'. In the start and end port enter 1025, Protocol - both and enter the IP address 192.168.1.89. Check the box enable. Save the settings.
See if that works. -
Remote access vpn clients, access to Internet resources
Hello, we currently have a remote access vpn set up terminating on an ASA 5520. Remote access users connect into this ASA and are able to access resources inside of the firewall- the public IP of the ASA is 1.1.1.135. We need these users to be able to access resources natted behind another ASA firewall on the same public IP segment, at IP address 1.1.1.165.
I have gotten to the point where I believe I have all of my Nat/global statements in place, along with my ACLs on both firewalls, but I am not able to make the connection to the server behind the second ASA.
running packet tracer on the second ASA (hosting the 1.1.1.165 server) shows that the packet will be allowed. RUnning packet tracer on the Remote access VPN ASA is showing that the packet is dropped due to :
Action: drop
Drop-reason: (ipsec-spoof) IPSEC Spoof detected
To me, this should be a simple setup, very similar to a company that tunnels all traffic (including Internet traffic) for remote access VPN users. It just doesn't seem like my traffic is getting to the second ASA wioth the remote host.
Anyone have any ideas?I figured out the answer- I had to add a nat statement form my VPN user subnet to be natted to the outside global IP:
nat (outside) 1 10.2.2.0 255.255.255.0 (this is my vpn subnet)
global (outside) 1 interface -
ACS 5.0 and remote access VPN
I have problem for authenticar a remote access VPN with ACS 5.0, not work.
When I try with ACS 4.1, the authentication work fine.
I hope someone can help me.
Regards.I have the same problem. I'm using ASA v8.21 and ACS v5.0.0.21, which I'm using as tacacs and radius server. I have no problem with accessing devices via tacacs (except that changing pass with first login doesn't work). The problem is with VPN authentication. I tested radius with Radlogin and PAP is working fine, CHAP goes in timeout, but as I know ACS 5.0 doesn't suport CHAP.
Here are some logs from ASA:

Problem with Remote Access VPN on ASA 5505
I am currently having an issue configuring an ASA 5505 to connect via remote access VPN using the Cisco VPN Client 5.0.07.0440 running on Windows 8 Pro x64. The VPN client prompts for the username and password during the connect process, but fails soon after.
The VPN client logs are as follows:

I applied the above command as you specified, and unfortunately, it did not resolve the problem. Below are the logs from the VPN Client for the connection + attempted browsing of a network share that is behind the ASA, and the new running configuration.

I'm at a loss myself as to why this isn't working, and i'm sure that you are running out of solutions yourself. Any other ideas? I really need to get this working.
Thanks so much!

Remote Access VPN on Cisco ASA Problem
Hi, i configured Remote access VPN on Cisco ASA 8.x as per below configuration.
Problem is that my internet has stopped working, and default route is just showing stars.
i can ping internal server 10.110.10.150 fine , which i allowed on VPN ACL, but my other traffic not going to regular internet on my laptop,
what additional required to force my internet to go to regular internet instead of getting encrypted?
Also attaching output of route print at the point when VPN is connected.

Remote Access VPN posturing with Cisco ISE 1.1.1
Hi all,
we would like to start using our ISE for Remote VPN access.
We have run a proof of concept with the ISE & IPEP with a Cisco ASA5505. We got the authentication working however posturing of the client did not work.
That was a few months ago and so I was wondering whether any design document is available specifically around Using the Cisco ISE for Authenticating & Posturing Remote Access VPN clients.
I understand that version 9 of the ASA code is supposed to eliminate the need for Inline Posture, does anyone know whether this will also allow posturing too?
We do intend to by Cisco ASR's aswell, but I am sceptical of this as i do not know how many VPN licenses you get out of the box. The ASA's we have allow up to 5000 IPSec VPNs without having to purchase any licensing. What I do not want to do is to switch to SSL VPNs as this again will increase cost.
I know ISR's are support NADs but what about ASRs? There is no mention.
Any advise will be appreciated!
MarioOK, I have come accross the Cisco Validated design for BYOD and in there it has a section about Authenticating VPNs.
thats great... however it does not mention using the Inline posture node. Does anyone know if there is a limitation using Inline Posture and SSL VPNs...?
essentially my requirements are
2-factor authentication VPN using a Certificate & RSA Token
Posturing of the VPN endpoint.
Ideally i would like to use IPSec VPNs as i have licenses already for these on my ASAs. But if it will only work with SSL & AnyConnect, then so be it.
Can anyone help?

Remote Access VPN with IPSec on a stick
Hello there,
I'm trying to establish a connection into the internet over a Remote Access VPN Tunnel.
The VPN-Client connects to Cisco PIX via IPSec-Tunnel and then connects to any web-server on the internet over the IPSec Tunnel.
This Connection is never established.
Normal IPSec-Traffic is no problem. I think I've got a problem with NAT. Where do I have to configure the NAT Rule for the VPN-Clients - on the "INSIDE" iface???
Other configurations like ACLs or "same-security-traffic permit intra-interface" are already done.
Please help
See ya
Jenssame-security-traffic permit intra-interface
global (outside) 1 interface
nat (outside) 1
Make sure not to split tunnel, tunnel all traffic. -
I have remote access vpn configured on cisco 2901 router. Everything works good exept ipad 2 3g. When i am connecting with ipad from 3g network it connects but it is unable to access corporate resources. I talked to my telephone provaider and they told me that they have some nat problems with ESP. and adviced me to force vpn clients to use udp ports 500 and 4500. How i have to configure my router to accomplish this ?
Thanks in advanceHello,
Isakmp uses port UDP 500 for the managment connection establishment ( Phase 1).
NAT-T ( used when they are nat devices in between two VPN endpoints) uses port UDP 4500.
So on your Router NAT-T is configured by default, all you got to do is if you have an ACL on the outside interface allow this traffic (Isakamp and NAT T) On some of the newer IOS versions you do not have to apply the ACL as by default the VPN traffic (encrypted traffic bypasses the ACL).
So your requirement is done by default, great thing right!! You can let your Telephone provider you are ready for the test.

Remote Access VPN with existing site-to-site tunnel
Hi there!
I have successfully configured my Cisco router to create a VPN tunnel to Azure. This is working fine. Now I am trying to add a remote access VPN for clients. I want to use IPsec and not PPTP.
I'm not a networking guy, but from what I've read, you basically need to add a dynamic crypto map for the remote access VPN to the crypto map on the external interface (AzureCryptoMap in this case). I've read that the dynamic crypto map should be applied after the non-dynamic maps.
The problem is that the VPN clients do not successfully negotiate phase 1. It's almost like the router does not try the dynamic map. I have tried specifying it to come ahead of the static crypto map policy, but this doesn't change anything. Here is some output from the debugging ipsec and isakmp:

If I specify my key like a site-to-site VPN key like this:
crypto isakmp key xxx address 0.0.0.0
Then it does complete phase 1 (and then fails to find the client configuration). This suggests to me that the dynamic map is not being tried.

Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?Hi Marius,
I finally managed to try with the official Cisco VPN client on Windows. It still fails at phase 1, but now talks about 'aggressive mode', which didn't seem to be mentioned in the previous logs. Any ideas?

Remote Access VPN Design Sizing Values with Radius or PKI Stress Test
Hello,
We would like to guess about the maximum number of Remote Access VPN Clients (IPSEC or SSL VPN). The Endpoint may be ISRG2 or ASA FW series. In the attached documents, the maximum numbers are given as a general guideline, but we think this number may decrease if the Radius Authentication is used instead of Local User Authentication, or PKI is used. We don't want to underestimate or overestimate and design with a 20% Margin. Is there a testing done for these effects, wrt CPU, Memory or similar Router or Firewall Resources, or method we can test this? If there is a tool or method that we may simulate a number of Remote Access VPN Clients simultaneously (i.e 500) for different Authentication scenarios? We have found that IXVPN from Ixia or Load Runner from HP may be helpful, but complex to configure and use.
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/vpndevc/ps6032/ps6094/ps6120/prod_brochure0900aecd80402e39.html
Devices include a license for two Premium VPN users for evaluation and remote management purposes. The total concurrent IPsec and SSL (clientless and tunnel-based) VPN sessions may not exceed the maximum concurrent IPsec session count shown in the chart. The SSL/IPsec IKEv2 VPN session number (clientless or AnyConnect client) may also not exceed the number of licensed sessions on the device. The ASA 5580 supports greater simultaneous users than the ASA 5550 at comparable overall SSL VPN throughput to the ASA 5550. VPN throughput and sessions count depend on the ASA device configuration and VPN traffic patterns. These elements should be taken in to consideration as part of your capacity planning.
Thanks in Advance,

VM with remote access VPN without split tunneling
Hello experts,
I have customers who require to use VM in their laptop. These users also require to VPN to Corporate network to do their job. However when they do remote VPN to corporate Network (ASA VPN concentrator) from their VM host machine, they loose their access to their VM guest machines. This problem was not happening when they used cisco VPN client which has gone end of life and support as of end of July 31, 2012. In Cisco VPN client (IKEV1) if we set the protocol to udp they had no problem to keep their connectivity to VM machines while connected to corporate with remote access VPN. However this feature does not work in new Cisco VPN client which is called AnyConnect. ( NOTE: I am using IPSEC IKEV2. NO SSL at this time).
My Question to Experts:
1. Was the ability to maintain connection to VM guest machines, while connected to VPN without enabling split tunneling a security flaw in the old cisco VPN client?
2. Is there a way to maintain connectivy to VM machines installed in a computer and still connect to remote access VPN concentrator through host machine? (My question is about AnyConnect client only using IPSEC IKEV2 and I do not want to enable split tunneling)
Thanks for your help,
RaziDid you figure this out?

Remote Access VPN, no split tunneling, internet access. NAT translation problem
Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum. I have a Cisco ASA 5505 with a confusing (to me) NAT issue.
Single external IP address (outside interface) with multiple static object NAT translations to allow port forwarding to various internal devices. The configuration has been working without issues for the last couple years.
I recently configured a remote access VPN without split tunneling and access to the internet and noticed yesterday that my port forwarding had stopped working.
I reviewed the new NAT rules for the VPN and found the culprit.
I have been reviewing the rules over and over and from everything I can think of, and interpret, I'm not sure how this rule is affecting the port forwarding on the device or how to correct it.
Here are the NAT rules I have in place: (The "inactive" rule is the culprit. As soon as I enable this rule, the port forwarding hits a wall)
nat (inside,outside) source static any any destination static VPN_Subnet VPN_Subnet no-proxy-arp route-lookup
nat (outside,outside) source static VPN_Subnet VPN_Subnet destination static VPN_Subnet VPN_Subnet no-proxy-arp route-lookup
nat (outside, outside) source dynamic VPN_Subnet interface inactive
object network obj_any
nat (inside,outside) dynamic interface
object network XXX_HTTP
nat (inside, outside) static interface service tcp www www
access-group outside_access_in in interface outside
route outside 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx 1
Any help would be appreciated.Try by changing the nat rule to nat (outside, outside) after-auto source dynamic VPN_Subnet interface

Remote Access VPN connecting but not passing traffic
I have a remote access VPN configured on a device here. I'm able to connect a device and it assigns me an IP address out of the pool, and injects the routes to its local network, but I'm not able to pass any traffic through the VPN and none of the IPSec SA counters increment for the dial-in connection. I've compared the config here to the samples from documentation and I don't know what I'm missing. Config is below.
