Problem with Transmission (torrent)

I recently installed Transmission on my Macbook & after about 2 days now when I try to download a torrent the download window pops up & what looks to be a sheet of paper now shows in the window instead of the file, also prior to this Transmission would automatically open as well but nothing happens there either. I've uninstalled & reinstalled twice now & I also did the same with Azureus (which I used on my old PC).
I'm fairly new to the Mac world but did I turn off a setting or something?
p.s. I posted this in the 'Macbook' topics over a week ago & no response.

Your problem is not necessarily to with transmission. It is a file association problem.
Which browser do you use to download the torrent files?
do the files have .torrent as their file extension?
If you right click on one of these files and choose open with what apps come up?

  • Problems with transmision torrent client

    Dear all,
I have Iomega EZ-3 and on it running transmission torrent client.
    lenovoemc_Torrent 3.2.19250  Up to date
The problem is the destination of downloaded torrents. It's not on desired destination. On selected folder 2 subfolders were created - "add torrents here" and "incomplete". And when torrent is downloaded, there is no file. In web gui double click on torrent gives some additions informations:
    Location: /mnt/pools/A/A0/Documents/Downloads
Where is this location and how can I access it? I have a lot more problems with built-in torrent download client so this one problem should be easier to solve... I have latest firmware on Iomega EZ-3: 4.0.8.23976
    Kind regards,
    Ziga

I'm not sure why the completed file would not end up in the destination folder. Have you searched the all the folders on the device to see if it ended up in another folder somehow? The built-in torrent client has some issues on some devices, which is why we added support for Transmission.
Maybe try asking their support forums? - https://forum.transmissionbt.com/

  • Problem in openbox with transmission

I've got a problem with transmission and other torrent clients like rtorrent while in openbox. When I run them and play music or watch movies with smplayer or vlc after a period of time the torrent client becomes irresponsive and the media players start to lag until I kill the torrent client or until it gets back up and working.
The thing is that this only happens in openbox, when I run them in gnome they are working togheter just fine.
I had this problem for a while but lately it became really annoying and I want to fix it because I would love to continue using openbox.

Can I ask you what you mean? I use openbox and transmission.  and never have lag issues or anything of the nature.  But i download the files then move them to the Movies Folder...  I would love to troubleshoot but i would like to know what i should do to replicate your issue.

  • I can no longer open torrent files with transmission without downloading them; I could do this easily before the most recent update, how do I make this right??

I tried to get a torrent file today, normally I tell firefox to open with transmission, today it wasn't an option. I tried to go to preferences and change it there but torrent files weren't even an option. Yesterday it worked fine, but after last nights update I can't get it to work at all.

Similar problem here. My Ical refuses to edit or delete events. Viewing is possible, though sometimes the whole screen turns grey. Adding new events from mail is still possible. The task-pane completely disappeared. My local apple technic-centre messed about with disk utility for a bit and than told me to reinstall leopard. I could of course do that, but it seems to me that reinstalling Leopard just to fix iCal events is a bit invasive.
I tried also tried removing everything, installing a new copy of iCal from the leopard-cd, software updates, all to no avail.
At the moment I'm open to all suggestions that do not include a complete leopard reinstall.

  • Problem with torrent-downloading, dont start!?

I have a problem with my Transmission (torrent-downloading), it dont start to download any file. My friends has tried the same torrents-file and with no problems. I havnt had this problem before, it just started recently. I have tried BitTorrent to check if its something was wrong with Transmission but it didnt start either to download (BitTorrent say, "Checking for firewall..").
So have I change some preferences in Mac OS X or somewhere else that make this problems with torrens-download?

Apple Discussions does not condone the use of torrent downloading, usually for pirated software. Therefore, you will not get any help on this forum.

  • Problem with wpa and hidden ssid

    hi,
I have a powerbook g4 (1,67ghz). i am having trouble connecting to a netgear router mr814 v3 if i use wpa and hidden ssid, i get a message, that the router would not support wpa!
there is no problem with wep and hidden ssid or wpa with no hidden ssid.
is also have no problems with wpa and hidden ssid with an ibook.
the problems occur only with the powerbook with os x 10.3.9 as well as 10.4.2. even after the recent airport update, no change.
    thanks for the help,
    ben

I would use WPA and broadcast your SSID.
It use to be useful, but closing your Airport or wireless network (sometimes referred to as not broadcasting your SSID) is really no longer a real option when it comes to wireless security.
Unfortunately "Closed" networks, MAC access control lists, and reduction in transmission power are all more "feel good" security rather than real security. All these various approaches are dated and mistakenly lead to overconfidence.
WPA is your friend if you value wireless security.
My recommendation is not to worry about broadcasting your SSID but use WPA. This will be more secure than a closed WEP encrypted network. Closing your network makes it very difficult for neighbouring networks to see which channels are free thus causing potential interference problems.
Another thing to consider is that a closed network is still broadcasting and therefore is detectable (regardless of whether it is broadcasting a SSID). If someone was determined to hack into your network, then not broadcasting your SSID and MAC address access control is not going to stop them.
WPA is virtually uncrackable (only really vunerable to a dictionary attack if a real word is used as a password) and therefore will stop the casual user and the determined hacker.

  • I am having so many problems with compatibilty with my AEBS....

Ok here's my setup - i've got cable modem running straight into my brand spanky new AEBS. I have a USB printer running into the back of this. I have a MacBookPro 2.33 Ghz Intel Core Duo. I connect to the internet using this with Wireless. I have set up the BS with 802.11n (b/g compatible), automatic channel, and WEP (Transitional S N). I have set up my Mac with Manual IP so that I can port map and open up a Torrent client and a KDX Server on my Laptop which works perfectly so no problems there.
I have the following problems with my other kit that needs to connect to the Internet:
    A) My wife has a little PC Laptop that runs XP Pro and she needs Internet access. I've set it up to see the Extreme, using a Manual IP and WEP Password - which turns into TKIS or something - I don't really understand PC's. I have also taken the firewall off, and the PC is connected to the Access Point, and all seems well but the PC just will not see the internet. Everything SEEMS to be working up to the point of needing the internet. The PC used to work on my old NetGear router that I had before I 'upgraded' my router to AEBS. Very strange and utterly frustrating.
    B) I have a GamePoint wireless acces point downstairs that picks up the wireless network and feeds it to the XBOX 360 through Ethernet. This used to work a treat using my netgear router. The problem I have now is that when i enter a WEP password on the BS, it asks for 13 characters, and the WEP password box on the browser interface is split into 5 boxes that allow 2 digits each. It does not support WPA security so - ***? How can I run this system with WEP?
    C) I have a similar problem with my Wii in that it only accepts 10 digits for WEP.
I am very frustrated - this Apple Base Station only seems to want to work with other Apple gear.
Can anyone help me with any or all of these frustrating problems?
    Thanks in Advance - Darren

    Ok PC sorted.
A reservation says - I want this PC to be always given this IP address.
To reserve an IP from the DHCP panel.
    (in your list of images)
Enter the Mac number of the PC - alongside the IP number you want to give it.
The Mac number is also called the Hardware Address. Network Utility will give you the number. Be careful, you need the Hardware Address of the Wireless connction - not the Ethernet connection which will appear first.
    (Select en0 en1 etc. )
OK - I have a solution for your games too. But you are not going to like it.
Your gaming devices only support old-fashioned 40-bit WEP. Which is easy to crack.
Your AEBSn supports that too - but it is incompatible with 802.11n.
This is what you can do (if you want)
Click the Airport Icon (in Airport Utility) and go the Wireless tab.
You'll see a pulldown marked Radio Mode. If you click it you see 4 options.
But if you OPTION click. You see 8 options. Select 802.11b/g compatible.
Now if you click the Wireless Security pulldown - you'll get the option of 40-bit WEP.
This will give you a Hex String which will fit into your gaming devices.
But of course, you have sacrificed 802.11n to get it.
Another option is to dig out an old 802.11g wireless box and make a dual-band network.
    I think we are done!!!

  • Problem with file descriptors not released by JMF

    Hi,
I have a problem with file descriptors not released by JMF. My application opens a video file, creates a DataSource and a DataProcessor and the video frames generated are transmitted using the RTP protocol. Once video transmission ends up, if we stop and close the DataProcessor associated to the DataSource, the file descriptor identifying the video file is not released (checkable through /proc/pid/fd). If we repeat this processing once and again, the process reaches the maximum number of file descriptors allowed by the operating system.
The same problem has been reproduced with JMF-2.1.1e-Linux in several environments:
    - Red Hat 7.3, Fedora Core 4
    - jdk1.5.0_04, j2re1.4.2, j2sdk1.4.2, Blackdown Java
This is part of the source code:

Its a bug on H263, if you test it without h263 track or with other video codec, the release will be ok.
You can try to use a not-Sun h263 codec like the one from fobs or jffmpeg projects.

  • Problem with RTPExport output video files

Hi, I have a problem with RTPExport output video files. One side streams H263/RTP(AVTransmit2.java) and other write this steam to a file by RTPExport.java. When network conditions are ideal, output video file has same fps and same number of frames like original file. Problem occures, when theres packet lost in network, then output file has different fps,and also has less frames like original video(because it didnt write missing frames to file, and thats why it get shorter). Pls how can I achieve output file that will have the same fps like original one? How to write to file an identical copy of what I can see while receiveing video with AVReceive2.java? Its there a way to modifi rtpexport or avreceiver to do this? Thanks a lot!

Problem occures, when theres packet lost in network, then output file has different fps,and also has less frames like original video(because it didnt write missing frames to file, and thats why it get shorter). Okay, first off, the second file is smaller on purpose. RTP intentionally drops packets that are old/out of order in order to make sure real-time video stays as close to real time as it can. This is by design, so there's really nothing that can be done about it.
How to write to file an identical copy of what I can see while receiveing video with AVReceive2.java? Technically speaking, what you're getting in the RTPExport is exactly what you got on the receiving end. Any frames that are dropped during transmission will not be seen by the receiver, nor saved by the receiver.
Pls how can I achieve output file that will have the same fps like original one? I'm not 100% sure that you can, but, you can give the following idea a try. I make no guarentees that it'll work, but it should work for you...
That example is an example of a "custom transport layer" for RTP connections. Essentially, it's some code that's handed the RTP packets on the transmission end, and it's expected to deliver those RTP packets on the other end. And it doesn't care about how they get from A to B, only that they do.
If you were to replace the UDP socket in that example with a TCP socket, you would be guarenteed not to drop packets due to network reasons. Every RTP packet you were handed by the transmitter, you would then hand to the receiver. There is no guarentee that none of the packets would be cast away as "old" by the RTP protocol itself, but there's also no guarentee any of them would be. It's a crap-shoot at best, but it's certainly worth a try.

  • Problems with Filenames with Chinese Characters

I seem to have problems with filenames with 2-byte characters like Chinese, Japanese and Korean in various apps. The problems occur when i download chinese music and import into iTunes :
    1. Torrent ( and all other ) files with 2-byte characters filename become junk characters in Finder after download from Safari.
    2. Music files created/downloaded by uTorrent displays 2-byte characters correctly in Finder.
    3. These downloaded music files when imported into iTunes becomes junk characters.
    4. Let say I wish to have a list of all filenames from (2). I do a ls -R > abc.txt in Terminal. abc.txt displays the filenames correctly in vi. However they become junk characters again when view using TextEdit.
I've selected Chinese, Japanese, Korean in International setting. This is not about input method, just want to get the filenames correct in Finder and iTunes. Any advice is appreciated.

    3. These downloaded music files when imported into iTunes becomes junk characters.
The ID 3 tags need to be in Unicode.
    http://homepage.mac.com/thgewecke/mlingos9.html#itunes
    4. they become junk characters again when view using TextEdit.
TextEdit needs to be set to the correct encoding, it's not automatic.

  • Problems with Apple Photo Services

I've been having problems with Apple's Photo Services. The first time, I'm pretty sure I didn't crop some pics correctly, but they were gracious enough to refund my $$. However, then I got serious about cropping in Aperture 2, and double-checked everything before submitting them. The 20 x 30s were fine, but the 16 x 20s were all screwed up. My $ was refunded for these, but I can't figure out whether the problem is mine, or in the transmission of the pics, or something that went wrong in the Photo Service. When I complain, they always send back a small pdf of what they claim they received, and it always matches what they printed. But that's not what I sent them.
Anyone else have these problems? Might it be a bug in Aperture 2?
    Sean

When I do a bulk export from Aperture 2, to anywhere, (flickr, Photoshelter, a set of files, gallery), randomly, (about 2 in thirty images are affected).
The effect is stretched non-centerd cropping. I think it only affects random cropped images. Not all cropped images, but I am not sure about non-cropped images. ...
The extra effort to go back to the export, after the fact, just to check up on the quality exported images is a waste of my time, but now made necessary.
The thing that bothers me the most is that selecting the images that have been exported with the problem and then re-exporting those images produces, for me, the export I originally expected without the errors.

  • Problem with px4-300r firmware 4.1.104.31360

    Hello,
    Sorry for my english.
I have few problem since the firmware update 4.1.104.31360.
    1° Only 1 thumbnails in manager interface (Transmission torrent);
2° Copy Jobs don't work. Error message " Invalid specified for 'folderURI' value" . I try to do a new jobs but it's the same problem.

Sounds like the update may not have loaded correctly. If you contact support for your region they should be able to supply an imager to flash the unit. On the px4 you should be able to flash it without the disks in it to help prevent data loss.
