Problem with updating ipod

I just recently downloaded Itunes onto this computer and It wont let me update the ipod at all unless I restore. It comes up with an error message when the Ipod is plugged in: "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this ipod before it can be used with iTunes." The problem is, I've restored this ipod 6 times and it still won't let me do anything. i need help!

Charlotte, that would not do anything to solve your problem, which is related to iTunes and Fast User Switching. Try disabling this feature, restart the computer, and see if that fixes it. Go to Start/Control Panel/User Accounts then 'Change the way users log on and off' and remove the checkmark from Fast User Switching.
If you still have the problem of iTunes not recognizing your iPod, try resetting the iPod while it's connected to the computer: hold down the Menu and Select buttons until you see the Apple logo. This will often get it recognized.

  • Problems with updating iPod to reflect iTunes

    Hey all,
I'm having a problem that I hope someone can help me with. I've had my iPod about a year and this problem has only just developed.
Basically, when I connect my iPod via USB as usual, with iTunes open - It does recognise that my iPod is there, but what it doesn't seem to recognise is that it isn't up-to-date with iTunes.
It says very briefly 'updating iPod' like it should do, but then almost immediately says 'update complete' - Like it would if everything had gone well, except it hasn't. Theres lots of songs I've added, renamed etc since my last update, and it wont update them.
Just to try and narrow it down a bit:
    - My software is all up-to-date
    - My iPod isn't full
    - I've tried different USB ports
    - And I've tried everything simple like restarting.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers,
    Harry

Try another usb/firewire cable they don't last long mine only lasted about a year.the cables breakdown internally.

  • Problem with updating iPod Classic

I need to restore my iPod because whenever I highlight the music portion of my iPod the artwork half of the iPod turns white and the iPod reboots itself. All other parts I can go to with no problem. Anyways I try to restore the settings but it says I need to update my iPod to version 1.1.1, I download it but when it tries to install onto my iPod it says it cannot update because the firmware has been corrupted and to unplug and try again. I have tried many times but the same message pops up. So I cannot restore my iPod until I get the new software and I cannot get the new software. Also my iPod is in perfect condition I have only had it for a few months and have handled it very carefully. If anyone has any advice please help.

Try manually putting the iPod into disk mode, then restore:

  • Problems with updating my ipod

I own the ipod with click wheel (20 GB) and since i updated itunes and the software on the ipod i have problems with updating
when in connect my ipod to my windows pc it says i should not connct on both itunes and ipod but after at least 2 mins the ipod just connects, itunes still say its still updating and i can't disconnect the ipod from itunes
i reinstalled the software on my ipod and now the same thing happens, but absolutely no songs being transfered...before it just stopped at 1800 songs...nothing happened
i kinda suppose its because of my usb drive, it's too slow, but it worked fine before...
what should i do??? it's pretty frustrating
    M9282LL   Windows 2000

    Sorry, my fault...
i wanted to say, the ipod just disconnects itself from the pc...usually there's the sign on it "Do not disconnect" when its updating, but now it just goes back to the menu, while itunes is still updating, at least it say. In the end there are no songs at all copied on the ipod...
    hope this is understandable...

  • I have been having problems with my iPod touch and my WRT...

I have been having problems with my iPod touch and my WRT54G router. I am so frustrated right now because after following the various steps mentioned in one of these threads, following Earthlink's prompts, and speaking with Apple, my iPod touch will still not work. It is connected to the internet but will not download the pages. It is quite frustrating. I have changed from WPA to WEP, I switched the 4th Generated key to the 1st. I've disabled this, enabled that. I've done just about everything. I updated the firmware. I made the switch from a partial bridge to a full bridge. Still nothing seems to work. Does anyone have any other suggestions? The one thing I have not done is enter the Apple code into the iPod which searches for website...-- I cannot access the internet with my iPod so this web address does not work. If anyone has been successful, will you please give me step by step instructions? Yesterday I was on the phone with Linksys for about an hour. Before that with Apple for about an hour and before that with Earthlink. How it is that I can walk into a Bread Co. or Apple Store and immediately connect to the internet with my iPod but I can't in my own house?? Everyone seems to think it is someone else's problem so I've gone around and around. Not one of the Linksys support personnel suggested I look here on this community forum. I had to pay the $9 fee to have advanced Linksys help but still my iPod does not work and when I called back, the man I spoke with seemed to think the case was closed because my PC, Laptop, and iPod are connected to the internet -- the iPod just won't download the webpages or get mail. My iPod's IP address begins with 192. I would appreciate any help on this matter

I had the same issues with my iPod touch & iPhone. It's a known issue with the touch & Linksys G routers. Go into settings on the touch & do the following.
    1. Settings - wifi - linksys
    2. Erase your DNS settings & input same numbers as in router
    Settings.
    3. Http proxy should be
    in off position.
    4. Close out & open safari you should now have a wireless
    connection.

  • Lots of problems with my iPod touch 4th generation

I am having a few problems with my iPod touch 4th Generation. I have been having them for a while and I would really like to get them fixed.
My first and main problem would be that my iPod touch is not being recognized by my computer (windows) and it will not sync to iTunes. I am certain it is not my USB cables fault because I have tried it with three different USB cables and all of them have had the same result. It has seemed to be completly fine until I updated to ios 6. I would restore my ipod to ios 5 but I can't get my ipod to be recognized by iTunes and restore it.
My next problem is that my ipod is charging but it does not show that it is charging. The thing is though that it will only charge when it is hooked up to a very high powered source like my computer. My ipod dock works but it says it uses 160 watts of output power. It will not be charged from another wall charger and it will not charge in the car with a car charger.
I would love some help with this. I have been having these problems for a while and it is starting to annoy me a little.
    Thanks in advance.

Type "ios device not recognized" into the search bar at the top of this page and read the resulting help article.

  • Problem with my ipod touch 5th generation

Hi, I was updating the software of my ipod on my computer but then something went wrong and it get into recovery mode I try to reset it and it send me an error message, also I wanted to save what was on my camera roll or everything I have on my ipod, I download some programs that recover files but I have to pay for them and I don´t know if they really work or not but something that got my atention was the fact that when I was trying to recover the files directly from the device option it says that I need to plug my device (I think there´s a problem with my ipod ´cause it don´t happen with my iphone) but when I click the "recover from itunes backup files" option, everything that I want to recover is on it, did someone know if that means that I can reset it and recover everything directly on itunes? or if I reset it I will lost everything?
I really need some help please.

Correct. If you have an existing backup yo can restore the iPod from that backup without any special program.
    To restore from backup see:
      iOS: How to back up
If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • Loads of problems with my iPod.

Ever since I updated to iTunes 7.4, my 30 gig late-5th gen iPod has been causing me problems.
I bought a few songs on iTunes Music Store and I went to sync my iPod. Nothing happened. I tried resetting my iPod, different USB port, restarting computer, reinstalling iTunes and then restoring my iPod. No use. Now I could only get about 20 songs synced at a time if I was lucky. I got most of my songs on, except for about 100 of them, which just refused to get onto my ipod. iTunes would say syncing... iPod sync completed ok to disconnect, but the songs weren't there. Today I tried yet another USB port on my computer and the second I plugged in my fully charged iPod, it just died. I can't get it to turn on again. Lots of people I know who own video iPods have had the same problem with the new version of iTunes, and I've read similar problems on the internet but Apple hasn't offered any explanation to us customers. I've bought many Apple products in the past (Macs, earlier iPods), but with having to replace my iPod three times this year (waiting for 6 weeks at a time for replacement) I think I'm going to have to move away from them unless they provide me with some decent customer support, not some badly-trainer employee whose only advice is to reset and restore my iPod.
I've had really bad luck with iPods, this is my third iPod this year; the first one had a faulty dock connector and the second one wouldn't recognize that it had been plugged out of a charger. Any help from forum members would be greatly appreciated (since I can't get it from Apple). I also think I should get an extended warranty from Apple to provide me with some sort of guarantee because my original iPods warranty is about to run out.

I have a problem with my ipod too after 3months of working perfectly the Hold switch it's not working anymore. But if i plug the ipod to the computer the Hold switch will work again.
The problem appeared after the battery was over. I tried reseting, restoring, leaving the battery to go completely empty but nothing worked
Anyone here who can help me ? This problem is really irritating.

    Hi clarity,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
You may want to first try removing and reinstalling the latest version of iTunes by following the steps in this article:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
If you continue to receive the error message when connecting your iPod, see this article for more troubleshooting tips:

  • Many Problems with new iPod

It all started out when I got my nice shiny new iPod. I installed the latest 64 bit version of iTunes and connected my new iPod. First thing iTunes told me was that the iPod was corrupt and needed to be restored. I thought no big deal. The iPod is new with nothing on it so I had nothing to lose. The iPod was stuck in restore mode for about 8 hours and I gave up. I rebooted the computer and reconnected the iPod. Now iTunes could not see the iPod.
You may need to know that this computer is a newer Dell Studio XPS running the 64 bit version of Windows 7 Home Premium.
I followed all of the recommended solutions on the page for Windows not seeing an iPod. When it came to reinstall iTunes is when the real challenge started. Lots of problems with not being authorized to write some registry keys and iTunes would roll back the installation. Each time I installed iTunes I installed as Administrator. I had to jump through all of the hoops of deleting these registry keys what would not delete. I installed several times, each time deleting a new registry key that the installer would not overwrite. After 2 days I finally got iTunes reinstalled.
However iTunes would still not see the new iPod. Messed around with this for another few hours.
I have an old computer that I seldom use. This is an older Dell Dimension running Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3. It had an old version of iTunes. I thought I would try getting the iPod to work on this computer. This would at least tell me if there was a problem with the iPod itself. I updated the iTunes to the latest version. Connected the iPod. It was seen but said the iPod was corrupt. Did a restore and all appeared to work fine. So this tells me the problem is not with the iPod, but with iTunes on the other computer.
I went to my other computer, the one that I want to use iTunes on, and reconnected the iPod. It was seen this time but iTunes said that the iPod was corrupt and needs to be restored. I started the restore process. It has been restoring for over 10 hours now.
I really don't want to start over with all of the problems I had reinstalling iTunes.
Anyone have some suggestions on what to try next?

Made some progress during my lunch break. I started suspecting a problem with the USB driver for this iPod. I found KB article 1538 which was helpful.
I went to the device manager and deleted anything that looked like an Apple device and deleted all USB mass storage devices. I also deleted the device drivers for these items at the same time. I then scanned for hardware changes and the iPod was found.
The iPod is now seen in Windows Explorer. It still has the name I gave it when it was connected to my other PC. So I suspect the restore that was taking over 10 hours never had a chance to start. From Windows Explorer I was able to access some folders on the iPod.
iTunes would still not see this iPod. However I hope a reboot will solve this.
Ran out of time and needed to go back to work. I will update how this worked.

  • 101 Problems with my iPod Touch and iTunes...Almost

It really feels like I have 101 problems with my iPod touch and iTunes.
For some time now my iPod Touch have been using alot of batterypower and the battery is often discharged very fast. It discharges alot faster now than when I brought the Touch.
Also when I plug the iPod Touch to my computer it doesn't charge, it does the oposite of that, it's disharges and it does that ALOT faster than normal
There is also a problem regarding connecting the iPod Touch to iTunes. It doesn't connect to iTunes directly after I have plugged it in. It feels really random and it lives it own life it seems like.
If I accomplish to connect ut to iTunes it doesn't sync every single time. The computer / iPod Touch hangs and nothing happens. Soemtimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, like I said before - It feels really random!
Now to a BBIIGG problem. A week ago my girlfriend changed my password on my iPod Touch. When she typed the password into the login screen, it failed, she had forgotten the password / she thought that she picked that password when she changed it. Anywho, I didn't panic becuase I knew that I could lock it up by iTunes.
But, iTunes gives me a error while trying to restore the iPod Touch saying that there is no update avaiable and after that nothing happens. I tried to do the Sleep / Power + Home trick to set the iPod Touch into a recovery mode but iTunes gave me a unknown error.
I tried to update iTunes from my version to the new 8.0 version but when I do so it gives me a error saying that iTunes.msi can not be found and it can't uninstall the previous version :S
So, now I have a unusable iPod Touch, I can't do nothing with it.
    Like I said, It's really feels like I have 101 problems ;D.
Lucky I have my old iPod so I can listen to Music :P

Are you running windows xp or vista? I know the solution for vista but not for xp. My mate had the same problem but he has a vista.
Let me know what you are running.

  • Serious Problems with anything IPOD related

I've recently had trouble with my IPOD. I connect it to the computer and see the charging splash screen for a few seconds and then it stops. My computer doesent detect it at all (like it used to) and my IPOD wont even turn on. I read some troubleshooting on here and went ahead and uninstalled everything. I uninstalled quicktime, IPOD, IPOD updater, and ITUNES. I then downloaded both ITUNES and IPOD updated and in each instance I get this very very weird command line parameter:
    Command line parameters:
    /L language ID
/S Hide intialization dialog. For silent mode use: /S /v/qn.
    /V parameters to MsiExec.exe
    /UA<url to InstMsiA.exe>
    /UW<url to InstMsiW.exe>
    /UM<url to msi package>
After I receive that message I click "Ok" and absolutely nothing happens. It never did this before, I never had problems with my ipod or itunes before, nothing. I have no idea what the catalyst for all of this is. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    BUMP!!
Now when I plug my IPOD in it actually has a splash screen. It shows a folder icon with an exclamation point. I imagine it shows that because I uninstalled ALL IPOD related software. The problem is, I STILL cant install any IPOD material, I get the same error code I posted earlier over and over again.

  • Problems with Updater..

Ok I had problems with my iPod n I sent it to Apple Service, it just came back from there. It was formatted for Mac so I had to install it to Windows. I installed iPod Updater and restarted my computer as the instructions said but then I connected the iPod, opened the Updater. But it can't start restoring the Pod coz " iPod cannot be locked. Check there's no other program using your iPod and then try again" I have no other programs opened.. So what should I do? Can I just start putting songs onto the iPod without formatting it for Windows?

    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301305
"Can I just start putting songs onto the iPod without formatting it for Windows?"
Not without first formatting it for Windows. If your iPod is Mac formatted (and replacements usually are), it can't be read by Windows.
