Problem with vga (probably).

Hello guys! I'm new member of the forum so be patient! I did a quick search and i didn't find any solution to my problem so i posted here (hope in the right section). I had installed Arch on my netbook before some months and i liked it a lot so i wanna install it to my desktop too. When i'm gonna start the installation (/arch/setup) i 'm getting this error:
[drm:drm_edid_block_valid] *ERROR* EDID checksum is invalid, remainder is 64
Raw EDID:
[drm] nouveau 0000:01:00.0: DDC responded, but no EDID for DVI-I-2
[drm] nouveau 0000:01:00.0: No native mode, forcing panel scaling
I read that i can ignore this error but i'm afraid i will have bugs after the installation. I had a problem in Ubuntu with the kernel 3 and my pc was freezing all the time (especially when i was playing a game -Savage2-). Neither ctr+alt+delete nor REISUB was working so the only solution was the reset-button! When i was booting with the previous kernel it was fine. My VGA is GeForce GTS250. I would really appreciate it if you could help me...

I am seeing this on multiple new attempts at installing arch on machines.
One is a amd-system, with an integrated amd-video driver
and the second is my intel c2d system with both an integrated intel gma and a dedicated nvidia card.
It makes installation very messy, since the EDID probe keeps getting spammed in the terminal,
even when switching to tty2 or 3 a.so, it get's spammed in intervals on the current terminal.
Thus i have to do things like km, quickly select keycode, and the actual arch install ncurse dialog is getting messed up aswell between these intervals.
Is it the recent kernels, or something, that does this when using vga trough a DVI-adapter, or just anything else then DVI?
I belive it should tell me of the problem, but not on the running terminal, and just once in dmesg log.
I hope this can be solved upstream somewhere, where should we make this an issue?

  • Problem with VGA Offboard G31M3L

    Hi all,
    I have a problem with my computer.
    I installed a offboard VGA, and sometimes says no signal. i rly tired to turn off and turn on until the video works..
    I alrdy, put primary vga on bios PCI-E 2.0, sometimes need reset many times until displays.
    The onboard vga works normaly without offboard video card.
    Anyone know why? tried to put memory stick in second to see if works and the problem still persists..
    I rly suspect my power supply, becuz it have a 20pin.. not 24.. its the problem???
    My config:
    Pentium Dual Core E5200
    MSI G31M3-L V2
    2Gb Kingston memory
    Nvidia Geforce 9400GT XFX 1gb
    Zalman 400B-APF (20 pin) <-- mby the problem??  its not a bad supply.. yeah older but war veteran.

    18A @12V should be okay for your system configuration (as long as you are not using an excessive amount of hard drives, optical drives, system fans, LEDs and the like).
    Clear CMOS with main A/C power cable removed from PSU, load "Optimized Defaults" in BIOS after that, set the PCI-E Card to Primary VGA Adapter and see if that changes anything.  If it doesn't, please test a different PSU and a different video card (preferably PCIe v1.0a).  I am not convinced this is a mainboard problem.

    I have Asus L84F With 128MB Ram,20GB HDD,ATi Mobility Radeon M6 (ID 4c59,8MB)
    Why it do this??...please help me i love ArchLinux...and sorry for my bad english :-)

    I think 128MB was the bare mimimum when I did my laptop install but if your graphics card reserves any memory it may go below what it can work with in your case(I only have 192MB in my ancient toshiba laptop, I think I installed when I only had 128MB in it but I used an older Arch boot cd to install with).  I can't read your screen because of the glare/washout on the bottom, what is the install boot screen telling you.  Does your laptop have a vga out that you can hook up an external monitor to?  You might have to tell your bios to switch to the external vga out if the laptop doesn't automatically detect and switch.
    I haven't used a recent boot cd but I know that the current Arch kernels activate kms for radeons now on bootup, not sure if that boot cd is compiled with kms activated or not.  You can try adding radeon.modeset=0 to the end of the boot command line of the install boot entry on the cd.  That will not force kms to start and should leave you with vesa/vga screenmode to start the install with.

  • Problem with VGA port of IdeaPad G580

    Hello all,
    I am trying to connect my analogue VGA  Samsung display to my new IdeaPad, just as I did with my 5 year old Sony Vaio. The problem is that the standard cable won't fit into the in-built VGA of the IdeaPad. I understand there are other possibilities (i.e. using a DisplayPort to VGA), but I don't see a reason to do it since the VGA to VGA port is the simplest cost-effective solution for me.
    Has anyone had this problem? Is it possible that my IdeaPad is badly assembled and will therefore not accept a normal VGA connector?
    Thank you for your help.

  • T420 (4180-1G8): Problem with VGA output to external monitor

    Hello,
    I am trying to get the VGA output to an external monitor to work.
    I am connected to my monitor directly using a standard VGA cable.

    Follow-up:
    I have tried the latest "generic" Intel driver after completely uninstalling the device driver from device manager: without success.
    I have tried another monitor from a different manufacturer: no luck.
    To eliminate the device driver as a possible cause, I tried booting from an Unbuntu boot CD: no luck.
    I have enabled boot display on the VGA port in the BIOS: screen remains black.
    I am suspecting that the VGA port on my brand new Lenovo Thinkpad T420 is simply not working at all.
    I have opened a call with my hardware support.

  • Problem with VGA connector, ipad 1 and 4.3

    Since my update to 4.3 on my ipad 1 the VGA connector does not work more. Is a bug known ?

    Same problem - iPad 1 since update to iOS 4.3 now shows "Not Optimum Mode" on video out to pico projector Samsung SP-H03. Have tried resetting, changing video-out from PAL to NTSC, Widescreen on and off, everything really.
    Nothing works, very frustrated. I used to use this all the time.
    If Apple are reading, please fix this - it's effectively broken what I used my iPad for.
    Anybody any ideas if downgrading back to 4.2 is possible?

    As someone said to me on this forum, i install first the intel INF files (april 2003 version)from the MSI CD. The screen was OK (only try with XP not with Games).
    Next I install the Asus drivers and reboot the system. Since I've done that, my screen is complety black and i only can have XP in a special mode ("sans echec") in french.
    2 days ago i instal first the Asus drivers, Direct X 9 and next the Intel INF and the result was the same.
    Can someone Help Me ?
    Thanks!

  • Strange problem with VGA drivers MSI GX620 (NVIDIA GeForce 9600m GT) SOLVED!!

    Hi.
    First. The reason why I am installing the modded drivers from laptopvideo2go is that MSI didnt release new mobile GPU drivers (179.28) with PhysX support YET.(Wondering why other notebook manufacturers did only MSI didnt so far) So the only option was modded drivers. But when I install ANY other GeForce drivers (than orig. from MSI) on fresh formated NB with installed MSI drivers of other components it runs well only when the NB boots up with plugged AC. When I try to boot on batteries drivers allow only 16 bit color on desktop and all aplication. To enable 32 bit I have to Turn off the NB, plug to the AC and boot up.
    I read somewhere that MSI advices to use orig MSI drivers 176.60. I followed their advice until I got som apps using PhysX. I think it is nonsense to have PhysX capable Hardware, but because of the MSI driver development you cant use it.
    Please MSI do something with it!

    Quote from: Bas on 09-February-09, 19:02:30
    179.28 are BETA drivers, don't expect MSI to release BETA drivers.
    MSI will probably put them online shortly after they are released by nVidia, it's that simple.
    You simply don't get it, do you? You cannot expect something from anybody if you don't push him. MSI's laptops aren't supported in NVIDIA's laptop drivers release because... NVIDIA didn't wanted it? Said NO to one of their biggest GPU customer? Or it's just MSI's lack of interest?
    Those driver's aren't perfect, but it comes to the point when NVIDIA had to start care about customer with their hardware, when vendors don't.
    I will continue trying to help any MSI's customers as far my knowledge goes, but advocate for their lack of support isn't a solution. No, one driver release 7 months ago cannot be called support. Definitely not when it comes to (so called) gaming laptops. Even NVIDIA knows it.

  • Problem with JPanels -- probably a simple fix?

    Hi all,
    I feel really silly, but I cannot for the life of me figure out why my program is acting the way it is. I need to make two windows that are almost identical, except one has an extra panel of 3 buttons on top. For some reason, though, the bottom panel that's supposed to show up on both windows, even though I clearly add it, does not appear, and I can't figure out why. Can anyone give me a quick hand? I posted a SSCCE after my message.
    Thanks,

              JPanel panel = new JPanel( new GridLayout( 0, 3 ) );
              for( Integer i = 0; i <= 2; i++ ) {
                   JButton button = new JButton( i.toString() );
                   panel.add( button );
              one = new JFrame( "One" );
              one.setDefaultCloseOperation( JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE );
              one.add( bottomPanel, BorderLayout.SOUTH );
              one.setSize( 770, 580 );
              one.setLocationRelativeTo( null );
              two = new JFrame( "Two" );
              two.add( bottomPanel, BorderLayout.SOUTH );
              two.add( panel, BorderLayout.NORTH );
              two.setSize( 770, 580 );
              two.setLocationRelativeTo( null );
              two.setDefaultCloseOperation( JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE );
              one.setVisible( true );
              two.setVisible( true );
    }

    You can't add the same component to two containers. Think about it: have you seen a method getParent () in the API? Now if your code worked the way you hoped it would, what wouldbottomPanel.getParent ()return?
    Perhaps you could make a private JPanel getBottomPanel () method that returns a new bottomPanel andone.add ( getbottomPanel (), BorderLayout.SOUTH );
    two.add ( getbottomPanel (), BorderLayout.SOUTH );db

    Some people appear to have been able to overcome the problem by changing the number of rows. In other cases it appears that specific graphics processors produce problems similar to your own.

    Hello,
    I am having a problem with my A500-1GH. Randomly the monitor goes black and then recovers by showing a message "display driver stopped responding and has successfully recovered". My graphics card is the Nvidia GeForce 330. I read a lot, but all the opinions were old - from the beginning if the year, and no one seems to had solved this problem then. Do you know if now there is a solution for this?
    The laptop is brand new (respectively the windows is brand new) and the drivers and bios are up to date.
    Thank you in advance :)

    hi,
    Yeah, it is known problem with vga driver in this forum. As you already said yourself no one seems to had solved this problem :( I can just recommend you to try to install a vga driver from nvidia.com. In my case, i have nvida Gt 230 M, driver update solved it.
