Problem with with characters being interpreted wrong

Hi,
I am developing a website and currently when a search is made, all the occurancies of an apostrophie or a hyphen are being shown as a question mark. And the int value of them is -1.
I think the person who put the content into the browser editor for the pages copied and pasted from say microsoft word and there has been some encoding issue which has prevented it from being displayed properly.
Does anyone know of a solution for this? I have been trying to find a way to make sure they display as they should for days now

sorry, what i mean is that i have a Java String relating to some snippet from a web page ( a search teaser if you like) on a results page, ok?
However some of the characters seem to have their intValue() as -1, and are of type 12, which in java means whitespace. This is the case for apostrophies and hyphens, although I feel that these have been taken from maybe a word document or equivalent as the web page content as they are not treated like an ASCII apostrophie or hyphen

Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.

If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. You can't install the App Store version of Mavericks because your model needs a special version. If you ever need to reinstall it, boot into Recovery.

Has anyone had problems with iCloud being blocked by corporate web security?

Has anyone else encountered problems with iCloud being blocked by the web-security on company computers? I never had any problems with me.com, but now it appears I will be unable to check my mail via any computer at work.
Since iCloud is a portal for high-volume image and file sharing, I can understand why the site would be blocked, but it's very frustrating that this possibility would not have been anticipated, and an alternate web-mail site been set up. Otherwise many me.com subscribers may be left unable to use the iCloud web-mail portal via computers at work or at internet cafes that may block access to potentially risky websites.
Has anyone figured out a back door to this problem?

I dont beleive its an iOS 5 Issue - i think its hardware...
Simply because i have been running iOS 5 beta's since june and there were no issues with my iPhone 4.
When i installed the GM on my iphone 4 (which is the same build as the public release) there were no issues with charging in my vehicle.
Now, charging my iPhone 4S in my car is practically impossible.
when i plug mine in, it will display the "Plugged" symbol on the battery display but not actually charge. the battery will still decrease.
then it will randomly "disconnect" and not register that it is plugged in. then appear to be plugged in, then not, then plugged in, then not.
This will repeat over and over again without actually charging and the charger being in the socket throughout.
however yesterday i left it plugged in and my battery was 9% and after the strange plugged-in behaviour i noticed it was charging normally after about 20 mins in the car.
But when i did the same journey time today, the battery wouldnt register at all.... charging has only been successful ONCE since 14th October on the iPhone 4s
No idea whats up with it...

Weird problems with CSS being applied to JSF pages

I have this really weird problem with my CSS rules being applied to my JSF pages. My CSS rules don't get applied unless one of the following two things happen:
- A page is reloaded (by redirecting to itself, or if there were validation errors)
- The previous page in the history had the same relative reference to the same CSS file.
If a page is newly loaded, and the previous page did not have that same CSS reference, the CSS styles will not show up. Also, if the above is true, and the page is reloaded by JSF, the CSS styles show up.
Now, my problem could be solved if I put all JSP files in the same level, but the display of the first page would still be without the CSS style applied.
Is this known behaviour? And if it is, does it have anything to do do with the way JSF handles URLs (always one level back)? Help and input is kindly appreciated!

Petition: problems with characters in mail sent to Windows computers

Sign this petition by replying to this thread if you have problems with garbled characters when sending e-mails to Windows computers. Let Apple know It's a huge problem for non-English e-mailing customers and there is no way to definitively fix it.

You could also consider providing some feedback to MS. The longstanding bugs in Outlook that cause these problems represent really second-rate programming (even if it makes sense for Apple to somehow cater to them in Mail's behavior).

Txt to xml. Problems with characters(&, , ',...)

I want to generate a xml file with text from a txt file but i have problems with special characters such as &, <... I'd like to know if there�s any class or library to filter the text in order to generate my xml without problems.

Use JDOM to generate your XML. It will worry about escaping issues for you.

Problem with email being tagged as spam

We recently changed our ISP, and up to this point we had no problems with emails to partners being tagged as spam. I've setup the send and receive connectors as the public FQDN, but we're seeing the following NDR:

I've emailed McAfee to see what the problem is, but I haven't heard back. When I do a query on their web site, the web interface doesn't indicate there is a problem with this mail server, but it's continued to reject messages today. Even though the send
and receive connectors are set to mail.domain.com, but there still a portion of the header with the domain.local. I'm wondering if that might be causing a problem. Can anyone help me out here? Thank you.

ok lets start one by one.. to rule out the problem with your Email system go to www.testexchangeconnectivity.com and perform the exchange tests like inbound/ outbound and other relevant tests and share the results. once this is confirmed then come to Mcafee
Let me know which Exchange and which Mcafee versions you are using as i also have Mcafee and it needs some tuning. May be i can help you. but need to know the info and if you can paste a NDR which are tagged as SPAM

Problems with Hotmail being delivered to phone

This has been problematic since I got my first smartphone two weeks ago. It would not receive e-mail at all, and gave me an error message saying the account password was incorrect. (It was not, I've had the same password for a few months) Then it cleared up, and the phone was receiving e-mail from my Hotmail account live for a couple of days, over the weekend. Now it does not appear to be syncing automatically, and when I sync it manually I no longer receive the error message, just no e-mail is being delivered at all?!! Anyone else having this problem? Any advice?

I had the same problem with my Droid Razr M. Kept on getting error messages such as you're getting. Read in another community to delete the Hotmail account from the "Email Folder." I might add, check the settings and write down all the information, such as port numbers, etc. before you erase the account. Than add the Hotmail account to the folder marked "Other." This seemed to do the trick for me. Another thing you might try is to download an Email server from the Google Play. There are several of them, and some are free. I downloaded GO Email, and it works like a charm.

Problems with characters like "Á", "É"

Hi, I'm having trouble when reading data with characters "Á", "É", "Ñ" from a database. If I use this:
stmt = this.conexion.createStatement ();it works fine, but of course cannot access the records in the ResultSet but with method next ().
As I wanted to use absolute (), first (), etc. I wrote that:
stmt = this.conexion.createStatement (ResultSet.TYPE_SCROLL_INSENSITIVE, ResultSet.CONCUR_READ_ONLY);but when I try to read for example the word "PÉREZ", I get the word "0x50C38952455A".

Problem with characters Converting OTF Spool to PDF

Hello All,
Im working on ECC6.0 system. I have a Z report where it will take spool number and mail ID as input.
It will check wheter the spool is of type OTF of ABAP List, according to that it will use the FMs ONVERT_OTFSPOOLJOB_2_PDF & CONVERT_ABAPSPOOLJOB_2_PDF.
Now it will download the PDF internal table data into a file using OPEN DATA SET statement as shown below.
OPEN DATASET gv_dsn FOR OUTPUT IN BINARY MODE.
*Download the file to application server
LOOP AT gt_pdf_output.
    TRANSFER gt_pdf_output TO gv_dsn.
ENDLOOP.
CLOSE DATASET gv_dsn.
and it will ZIP the PDF as shown below.
* open the file from application server for zipping.
OPEN DATASET gv_dsn FOR INPUT IN BINARY MODE.
READ DATASET gv_dsn INTO lv_content.
CLOSE DATASET gv_dsn.
CREATE OBJECT go_zip.
go_zip->add( name = gv_file content = lv_content ).
gv_zip_content    = go_zip->save( ).
* Convert the xstring content to binary
CALL FUNCTION 'SCMS_XSTRING_TO_BINARY'
    EXPORTING

After that the ZIP file conataining the PDF will be sent as an attachement to the mail ID given as input.
Now the problem is some characters of Czech are not coming properly when the attachement is opend once the mail is received. Can any one tell where the problem is and solution.
Im getting the message "Can not extract the embedded front 'CourierNewL2'. Some characters may not display or print correctly." while opening the PDF in the ZIP attachment.

Problem with characters in text field

hi all
i am missing a few characters, once i load text into a dynamic text field. chars are not missing per say; they are being replaced with empty squares.
characters like the euro sign and accentuated german a letter.
whats is weird is that other accentuated german letters do appear. so only a few selected are missing.
How ive set up the fla:
1) i've added 4 text fields to the stage in the font im using, Arial, one for each font style: normal, italic, bold and bold italic, and in all 4 fields ive embedded all latin characters (to include the german accentuaded characters and im guessing it's in the punctuation group that holds the euro sign, so that one is also embedded), besides lowercase, uppercase, numerical, and all the default groupd to include basic text.
2) i've got a dynamic text field, created with createTextField, and setup the following ActionScript (2):

any ideas? i mean, it seems that the arial font is missing a few accentuated characters! because the code i have setup loads other accentuated characters.

you assigned your embedFonts property to be false.
look, you can test if you've embedded fonts correctly by using:
T_text._rotation=3;
if you see no text, you're not embedding fonts correctly.
so, use:
T_text.embedFonts=true;
and then test. if you see no text, use:
click on the upper right of your library panel > new Font > select Arial and tick the symbols you need to embed > tick export for actionscript and assign a linkage id (eg, ArialID). click ok. then use:
