Problem writing Imovie to disc using IDVD on my Mac

Using a Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8 Intel Core with IMovie 11 and IDVD to create movies.  I created the discs using my Sony DVD Direct VRD MC6 and converted the files to .mp4 using Handbrake. I've created several but had some difficulties - mostly in getting IDVD to write them. I have no problem creating, editing, copying, etc. and chosing the style ("Professional Quality") and "Normal" or Wide Screen" format to write them in. At first, after "finalizing" and "Sharing" with IDVD and then chosing the "Magic" DVD process, I would get this drop down which stated "Your file is in too large format for the program to write to disc" (or similar) - so I would go back to IMovie, cut, clip and erase to get the total time down to little more than one hour of video - which showed to be well below the 4.7 G available on the blank disc. Now it has progressed ot the point that as soon as the movie is "finaliized" I have the same "drop down" even before I open IDVD to select "Magic DVD".
Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks much in advance and I look forward to any suggestions.

Hi
Yes - I don't use Magic-DVD that way.
I do
• in iMovie - NOT "Share to iDVD" - BUT "Share to Media Browser" and as Large (NOT HD or other resolution as result will SUFFER)
• Close iMovie
• Open iDVD and create a brand NEW Project (using old ones set's off the iDVD BUG with lot's of strange problems)
• Now in iDVD I select a theme I like - Usually from Old Themes - "Brushed Metal" as this takes very little time from over all duration and this is VERY important in iDVD - Movie time PLUS Menu time. Menu can take 15 minutes or more). iDVD only cares about DURATION not at all about Mb or Gbs ! !
• Then I click on the Media button down right and here select Movie (top right) and Here select Your movie and drag and drop it into the big iDVD Menu window to the left.
• Select Encoding Quality - I use Pro Quality (always)
• Set down burn speed to x2 or x4
• Use high quality DVD brand - I use only Verbatim
• I use DVD-R as they play on more and even older DVD-Players
Good Luck !
Yours Bengt W

Making a disc with iDVD on my Mac won't play on any other player why?

How about some details on how you made the disc.  What sort of media did the project contain?  What brand and type of media did you use?  What burn speed did you use?
Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • How can I burn a DVD of an iMovie 13 project using iDVD 7.1.2 version.

I have a late model iMac which came with iDVD.  I use iMovie to make photo and movie projects and share them to  iDVD to burn DVDs.  I use these often and I love them, specially iDVD.
When Mavericks came out I updated and of course it changed iMovie.  I just finished a photo project with music on iMovie and planned to transfer it to iDVD for burning DVD.  This is a family project and I want to distribute copies to the rest of the family.
It turns out that I cannot use iDVD with the new iMovie version and/or Mavericks.
iDVD does not contain the buttons that it used to have on each theme in order to play the DVD.
I cannot drag the movie into iDVD.
What can I do so that I can use iDVD when I have an iMovie project to burn it on a DVD.
I can go back to the previous version of iMovie and still have Mavericks.
I do not know, I am lost.  Why doesnt this work without any problems when updating the operting system.  Apple should take into consideration all the previous applications etc when it makes an older computer able to update to more current system.
    I appreciate any help offered.
    Thank you

Export the slideshow out of iMovie via the File  ➙  Share ➙ File menu option as a 480p Quicktime movie.
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.

  • Getting extra scenes when burning from imovie to dvd using idvd.

I edited a movie using imovie and got it n the sequence I want.  Then I burned it to dvd using idvd.  However, when I view the dvd, it starts midway through the video, goes to the end, then starts over and shows me the whole video.
The problem is, I don't see the extra part that shows in the beginnning on the dvd on imovie.  How do I get rid of that extra stuff if I can't see it on imovie?

I have had the same problem. I spent an hour on the phone with Apple Support and they were absolutely no help at all. They told me to buy Final Cut Pro. The only thing I found that helped was to export the movie using Quick Time as HD as possible (which takes a long time) and then use that in iDVD, so that the version I have for viewing on a TV or whatever doesn't look cheap and lo-res. My old iMac and iMovie 4 was slow, but the quality was much better on finished DVD products of movies or slideshows. It *****.

  • Can't burn to DVD from iMovie (4.0) using iDVD.  Can I use another program?

Suddenly, after making several DVDs with this computer using its old version of iMovie without trouble, I can't burn my latest creation...I'm getting a message saying that "You cannot use this version of the application iDVD with this version of Mac OS X."
I cannot update to the newest OS X Snow Leopard, because I've tried and my computer is not intel-based.
So, has my iDVD application has been updated to suddenly be incompatible?? How has it worked before?
(I've tried to upgrade my iMovie application to the current iMovie '11, but my computer is not intel-based.)
Is there another solution to my problem? Is there another application that I can use to burn from iMovie to a DVD besides using iDVD? (Remember, I have an old computer.) :o)
Thank you so much for any help you can give!

  • Burning an iMovie 10 project using iDVD

I created a slideshow movie with a theme (no audio) by iMovie 10. I want to burn a looping DVD of this movie without an added DVD theme, using iDVD. How would I bypass the iDVD themes?

    (From fellow poster Mishmumken: )
How to create a DVD in iDVD without menu (there are several options):
    1. Easy: Drop your iMovie in the autoplay box in iDVD's Map View, then set your autoplay item (your movie) to loop continously. Disadvantage: The DVD plays until you hit stop on the remote
    2. Still easy: If you don't want your (autoplay) movie to loop, you can create a black theme by replacing the background of a static theme with a black background and no content in the dropzone (text needs to be black as well). Disadvantage: The menu is still there and will play after the movie. You don't see it, but your disc keeps spinning in the player.
    3. Still quite easy but takes more time: Export the iMovie to DV tape, and then re-import using One-Step DVD.
Disadvantage: One-Step DVD creation has been known to be not 100% reliable.
    4. (My preferred method) Easy enough but needs 3rd party software: Roxio Toast lets you burn your iMovie to DVD without menu - just drag the iMovie project to the Toast Window and click burn. Disadvantage: you'll need to spend some extra $$ for the software. In Toast, you just drop the iMovie project on the Window and click Burn.
    5. The "hard way": Postproduction with myDVDedit (freeware)
    Tools necessary: myDVDedit ( http://www.mydvdedit.com )
    • create a disc image of your iDVD project, then double-click to mount it.
    • Extract the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders to a location of your choice. select the VIDEO_TS folder and hit Cmd + I to open the Inspector window
    • Set permissions to "read & write" and include all enclosed items; Ignore the warning.
    • Open the VIDEO_TS folder with myDVDedit. You'll find all items enclosed in your DVD in the left hand panel.
    • Select the menu (usually named VTS Menu) and delete it
    • Choose from the menu File > Test with DVD Player to see if your DVD behaves as planned. If it works save and close myDVDedit.
    • Before burning the folders to Video DVD, set permissions back to "read only", then create a disc image burnable with Disc Utility from a VIDEO_TS folder using Laine D. Lee's DVD Imager:
    http://lonestar.utsa.edu/llee/applescript/dvdimager.html
Several of our resident experts also recommend this: there is a 3rd export/share option that give better results.  That's to use the Share ➙ Media Browser menu option.  Then in iDVD go to the Media Browser and drag the movie into iDVD where you want it.

  • Problems burning dual layer discs using 10.3.9

    Hi please can someone help!!
I am pretty knowledgeable about macs but having problems.
My mac came with a pioneer 103 superdrive and have had no problems burning CDs and DVDs with Toast 6 Titanium. Recently i wanted to back up my dvds i have bought as some you can't easily buy anymore.
So i bought an external usb pioneer 108 and some 2.4x Dual layer DVD+R Rivision discs.
When ever i burn it gets right to the end of finishing and comes up with various errors and says it may have a lead-in lead-out connectivity problem. I have installed a patchburn which recognised both dvd drives and i installed before trying to burn. I have read somewhere that OSX 10.2.9 + can burn Dual layer and i have 10.3.9.
I have tried best and 2x with no joy. I am also using the setting DVD-ROM (UDF). After the disc mounts it plays through DVD player but is really jolting and is spit out by my normal DVD player connected to my TV.
I have got the DVD info off the disc using MactheRipper and just placing the two folders Video T_S and the other on the disc. I am keeping the Name as it was orginally. I have successfully copied a DVD that was less than 4.7gb which worked on both of my dvd players with my Pioneer 103 drive that can only burn normal DVDs.
I have not tried burning any other disc formats on the Pioneer 108 but felt it was a software problem rather than a hardware.
I have looked on Pioneer.co.uk and they have Firmware's i can download for the Pioneer 108 but not sure what firmware is or does? or whether they are PC or Mac versions.
thanks for your time, hope i have given all information required, would appreciate anyones help.

    Hi
    See Mac OS 10.4 Help
    And Mac OS 10.3 Help
You need Tiger if you want to burn DL Media using the Finder, otherwise you'll need to invest in Roxio's Toast.

hello everyone, i have this report generation toolkit... and i want to output DAQmx Analog I/P data on to an excel sheet. the DAQmx is programmed to collect

@All, I got rid of the express VI, decided to work on the custom low level VIs instead. however, i have a new problem now...
I have a case statement wherein, the user selects if he wants to start generating a report. once the program enters tat loop, the program speed reduces!
can anyone please tell me why is it happening? i ahve attached the vi... also another question.. in this VI, i am capturing the unwanted data into the graph as I am indexin the graph input. how can i make a logic
that the graph captures the data only when I am switching the CREATE REPORT button (which is in the while loop). is there a way that I can append the data to the graph without creating a new graph every iteration? please let me know

  • Burning iMovie 09 projects using iDVD

I have been searching without success to find out how several small iMovie 09 projects can be burned to the same DVD so that they run continuously. I don't want menu buttons.  They will be shown at a trade show and need to move smoothly from one project to the next.
Each project is only about 25MB in size so I am assuming that many will go onto one DVD.
    Mary Lou

Matthew, unfortunately if I export the movie to Documents and then import it into a new project, it loses the music.
There has to be some way to assemble small movies into one project so that they can be burned to one DVD.
I must be doing something wrong when I create a new iDVD project and then try to drag and drop movies into it. (They have already been through Share/Media Browser.)  Perhaps I am not dragging them into the correct area.
I don't want each iMovie project to be in a menu item or someone would need to run the DVD every 3-4 minutes when one project ends and another one needs to begin.
I'm still looking for the solution.
    Thanks for trying.

  • Burning disc using iDVD

Having just made my first iDVD, I am trying to burn it onto a TDK DVD+R 4.7gb single side disk. Won't burn and is stating "insert recordable disc" even though disc is brand new. Probably obvious to everyone else, but no doubt there is catch ?

Uhh, that's complicated. It's just different standards, backed by different organisations. Few years ago, when it started, it looked like a stupid formats war, with customers confused, low sales, etc. One could imagine that the industry learnt the lesson, but never underestimate stupidity: now the same kind of war is about to start regarding the next generation DVDs, the BlueRay or the HD...
Anyway, recent burners can deal with almost all curent formats (-R, -RW, -R DL, +R, +RW). Some of them are compatible also with +R DL (that's Dual Layer), and with -RAM. If you need that compatibility, you can buy an external burner (look for one with FireWire connection, is better even than USB 2).

  • Sound quality when burning an iMovie to disc

I just got iLife 9 and made a video using iMovie. The picture and sound quality on my computer are excellent; but when I burned the movie to a disc using iDVD the pictures remained high quality but the sound was poor. Any idea what might have caused the problem and what I can do to get better sound quality? Any help would be much appreciated.

    Problem found !
Karls answer's helped me to findout the issue.
    Nevertheless, this wasn't the bug.
When playing the movie in iMovie HD, sound rendering is not correct. When you burn your DVD, sound track is calculated to mix every sound tracks according to each sound volume curve defined in iMovie.
If you see a dot at the beginning of a sound track this mean that the DVD sound rendering will be incorrect.
Clean the and make sure that, when you select a sound object, you can change its volume by adjusting it, not manually, but using the general volume cursor. If not, you have a problem. Remake a perfect flat volume curve before adjusting it again.

  • Can't Install Old Themes (using iDVD '08 on Leopard)

    Hello,
I have a problem opening old projects (created using iDVD 3 or 4, can't remember) in iDVD '08 because I'm not able to install the old themes that are necessary. When I try to download the themes the software update program doesn't seem to find them as an available update. Trying to install them from my Max OS X disc fails with an error message that I need at least iDVD version 7.0.
    Any ideas?

iDVD will be on the system install disk. Use Pacifist to locate, extract and install iDVD from it. Move your current iDVD to another location or rename it so you can go back to it after the themes are installed. You might even be able to locate the themes package with Pacifist and just extract and install them. I'd look at that first.

  • Problems Burning DL +R Discs

I've got a project I'm trying to burn to Verbatim +R DL discs using iDVD 6 on a Powermac G5 with 2.5gb of ram. The project will go through all of the encoding stages just fine, but during the burning phase iDVD ejects the disc and hangs. Nothing is burned to the disc and I have to force quit iDVD. I've rebuilt the project several times, trashed preferences, and deleted iDVD's cache files, but end up with the same results. I've also tried burning this project on an Intel iMac with 2gb of ram with the same results. I've also tried to burn a disc image with no luck. Disc Utility hangs near the end (it's really hanging, I've let it run overnight). I get no error messages. I'm stumped! Any ideas?

Next we need to repair permissions again and restart the computer. Please, no ext. FW or USB devices attached (other than the keybrd & mouse) at this time while you do this procedure. Please read all of the following before we proceed.

Next I'd like you to start a very short iMovie project (no more than 3 mins. in length. Make it a short import / dv tape import from a minidv camcorder with firewire. Then share the short clip to iDVD6 and let's see if this burns to DVD-R or not. Verbatim /Maxell DVD-R is what I prefer to use here. Post back with the results.

  • Best DVD format for burning Using iDVD '09?

I have created some movies using iMovie with recordings from my digital camcorder. What is the best DVD format to use when burning them to disc using iDVD? I am new to this. Thanks

    I mean, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, etc. Thanks
I have found DVD+R to be more reliable than DVD-R. The only disadvantage to DVD+R is that DVD players manufacture before 2003 may not play them.
I would recommend Taiyo Yuden DVD+Rs. (I get excellent results using iMovie 06 with iDVD 11.)
    http://www.supermediastore.com/product/search?search=TaiyoYuden+%23Category%3A%27DVD%2BRMedia%27
What is the reason for using something less than the maximum burn speed? Thanks.
    I burn at 4X.
Burning too slow is often just as bad as burning too fast. Rule of thumb is to burn at 1/2 the max speed of the media's max.
"But believe it or not, there are still people who insist on waiting 55-60 minutes to burn a CD or DVD at 1x speed, because they are convinced anything faster will yield a bad or "lower" quality burn. However, burning too slow is often just as bad as burning too fast. Because of this unreasonable impulse to go too slow, some discs and drives now block out the lower range too"
