Problem writing to SD card in Ricoh card reader

I have a Gateway 4540GZ laptop with a Ricoh card reader. Whenever I plug in an SD card, it recognizes it as usual. But it won't let me write data in dd, gnome-disks, gparted, caja, et cetera. So I remove it and flip the lock switch to lock, plug it in, and I can't write any files, but I can write data in dd, gnome-disks, and gparted. Thinking it was because I was using an 8GB SDHC card, I swap it for a 2GB SD card and I get the same results. What am I doing wrong?

Hello!
I have the same type of problem so I post there.
I' try to write on a file on the SD card, and if I don't open and close the file on the loop, there's only one line writed.
Unfortunately, on my application, I have to read the measure and write them on a file quickly than 10 ms and if I open and close the file each time, writing part take too long.
Is there a tip to resolve this?

Cédric

  • HP Pavillion dv6-1245dx problems writing to MicroSDHC card - errors

I've purcahsed two different brands of MicroSDHC 32GB cards. They will allow me to write 1-2GB of info before giving me an error code: 0x80070052. I was using Windows 7 and read that this was an issue that was going to be resolved in Windows 8, so I installed Windows 8 on my laptop (It's legitimate through Microsoft's MSDN program).
I went looking for product specifications for my laptop on the HP site and it just gives this vague answer: 5-in-1 integrated Digital Media Reader for Secure Digital cards, MultiMedia cards, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, or xD Picture cards.
It doesn't specify SD, MicroSD, MicroSDHC or any variation. I am inclined to believe that the laptop doesn't support cards as large as 32GB. The largest card I've ever tried before this was an standard size 8GB SDHC, so at least I know it will handle the SDHC part. However, I have had issues with 32GB USB drives as well, where the drive gets half full and then starts having problems writing (no error codes though).
I'd like to know if MicroSDHC cards as large as 32GB are or aren't supported before I commit to purchasing a third card. I've tried multiple adapters as well, so I know it's not 1) Me trying to stick a tiny card in a large hole, 2) poor contact between the adapter and the laptop, or 3) poor contact between the card and the adapter.
    Thank you.

card readers are prone to problems with the internal contacts, particularly multi-card readers. If you get a card inserted a little  bit wrong it can cause it to go out. HP should warrant the problem but if you can't get relief, the expresscard multi-readers are cheap and work well. My laptop has no built in card reader so that is what I use.

  • MSI P67A-G45 (B3) - Problems with USB3 & Updates & card reader, etc.

Hi, I have the MSI P67A-G45 (B3) motherboard and I'm still having problems with it (as from day one).
    1) I still seem to have some problems with stability with the USB.  I updated the drivers for the Renesas USB to the latest (2.1.39.0) from the station-drivers website,
I was thinking of grabbing the firmware update as well.  But I wasn't sure if I should.  The page also shows firmware updates for uPD720200 & uPD720200a, and I'm not sure which one is in my motherboard.  Should I update?  If so, which one is in my MB, uPD720200 or uPD720200a?
    2) I'm also having trouble updating the Intel ME Driver and the Intel INF Update (although I'm googled that the INF update doesn't really matter).
    3) I can't seem to get the firewire port working with my WD Home 2TB external HDD (it works through USB though).
    4) I have an old internal flash card (SDHC/MS/MMC/etc.) reader from another desktop that I wanted to add to my MSI one.  Is it possible to do so?  Where would I plug it in?
    5) Is there anything else I need to update: software or firmware?  I've generally updated the stuff listed in the Live Update (except for the stuff I never installed).
Thanks.  Please answer any of the questions if you can.

    Update the firmware and re-test:
    >>Firmware and BIOSes<<
Scroll to the bottom of the page at that link and flash the USB controller firmware.
Thanks, Renesas update seems to have taken.  Let's hope it's more stable.
I have a Core i5-2500k Sandybridge processor.  Is there a point to me updating the BIOS & Management Engine to the latest?  The support page for my MB says don't bother unless I have an Ivybridge processor?

What PC is the card reader from? Some of those card readers such as from Sony & Dell will only work in the respective brand PCs they came from and not any other. I have one I removed from a Sony and it will not work in my rig. If the card reader is a normal 3rd party model purchased from a store it should work but may require drivers from the manufacturer of it. As far as plugging in a card reader they go to an internal USB header on the MB.
The old desktop was from computer maker Cisnet.
I plugged the 5-hole (or rather 4 holes, since one is blank) plug into JUSB1, but it seems to keep connecting and disconnecting in Windows 7 x64. Windows made drives for all 4 card slots, but whenever I put a memory card in, it would just connect and disconnect and the memory card would never show up.  Is it a driver problem?
It's a Foxconn internal card reader, except I can't seem to figure out which model it is despite googling (not indicated anywhere on the card reader).
Don't really want to cough up $15-$20 for a new card reader, so I'm hoping to get this one to work.  Thanks.

  • Problem importing photos from card reader

I have been successfully importing photos from my camera's memory card using a card reader. I was half way through a similar import, when a pop up came up on screen to say I was running out of disc space. So I deleted some other files to make room and the import appeared to complete. I then organised these photos into albums, when iPhoto unexpectedly quit. When I opened it again the albums still recognise that there are photos there but you can not view or edit them. Any help appreciated.

I did do a test and yes if you have a folder on your SD card, you will get an "Import" link.  If not, no importing ability.  I was not able to import a .m4v movie however.  I was able to import a .MOV that was taken by an iPhone but not a .mov from another application.
I'd say the hack to import into an iPad using the Apple SD Card Reader is make sure the media files are in a folder named DCIM on an SD card (as you mentioned) with the 8 character naming convention.

  • R3000 multi card reader problem

I have a problem with the sd card reader on here that it wants to format the sd card when inserted, I searched the forum for others that were having the problem, and found that I possibly need the sp29788 updated driver for it, so I downloaded it to the laptop, but am still getting the same thing. The card that I am trying to read is a 2gb that I can read with usb multi card reader, but not the one in the laptop. The driver for the multi card reader shows a 8/8/2003 date on it, the driver on the hp website sp29788 shows a 2005 date. When I installed the updated driver for it, the date on the driver still shows as 2003. What next?

    Hi lincon50
I understand the memory card isn't being recognized since the wireless setup and the apple update.
Please take a look at the post from pcwizard and give it a try.

  • T420s 4-in-1 media card reader adapter problem

I'm wondering if any other T420s owners have had this problem with the media card reader.
Until about two weeks ago, the laptop was working fine, or so I thought. I usually put the laptop to sleep mode instead of shutting it down completely just to speed up boot process. Then, two weeks ago, I tried shutting it down completely. It got all the way to the "shutting down" screen but it would not completely turn off unless I hold down the power button.
It took a while for me to figure out that the media card reader was preventing it from completely shutting down -- even after restoring it to factory settings. Hardware manager recognizes the controller.  It also recognizes the card reader if an SD card is inserted but would not assign a drive letter to the reader (i.e., I cannot read the card).
    This is what I've tried:
    1. Uninstalled and re-installed the drivers for the smart card reader and the controller. That didn't work.
    2. Restored the laptop to factory settings. That didn't work.
    3. Uninstalled and deleted the drivers for the smart card reader and the controller, then downloaded and installed the latest drivers from the Lenovo website after restoring the laptop to factory settings. That didn't work.
The only common thing in the process is this: the laptop would not shut down completely if there is an SD card in the reader. I initially suspected that it was the SD card itself but I've tried it with four different SD cards and the results were all the same -- it would not shut down if the card was inserted. While displaying that "shutting down" screen, it will shut down immediately after I pull out the SD card, even if it's been hanging in that state for minutes.
I suspect that it is the card reader itself that's causing the problem, and that I need to have it replaced (the laptop is still under warranty).  However, I thought I'd seek the advice of the experts out there and find out what their thoughts are.
    Thanks.

Just took it to an authorized service center in Gaithersburg, MD (about 10 minutes from my office). I hope it's simply a matter of replacing the card reader.
BTW, 4-in-1 reader doesn't mean much. It's just an SD, SDHC, SDXC and MMC reader. Pretty much the same form factor. Now if it can read both SD and CF cards, I'll be really happy (my DSLR uses CF).
Thanks to everyone who offered advice. I'll post the service center's findings when I get my laptop back.
    Good luck!!!
Yeah I have/had the same problem I have a DSLR that uses both CF xD, my HP notebook mulitcard reader reads xD, SD (4GB), but no CF. CF is a big card so I can see that as a problem on some notebooks. However I also have a camera using the Memory Stick Pro and it goes into the same slot on my HP but as you said. Lenovo's reader is only supporting the SD series which is a bummer. I still have to use an external reader for two other cameras.

  • USB card reader problem with T430 laptop (Win 8)

    I have a Thinkpad T430, running Windows 8 with 16G memory.
I have recently encountered problems with a USB card reader. I thought the reader was faulty so I bought a new one, but that one fails as well. It makes no difference which socket it is in.
After being plugged in for a few seconds, the 'drives' the reader sets up start to flash in the 'Computer' window - it seems they are continually being disconnected and reconnected.
Disabling USB 3.0 in the BIOS makes no difference. One card reader is USB 2 and the other is USB 3
Changing the power settings so the USB selective suspend is disabled makes no difference.
I am pretty sure that it was OK a month ago when I last used a card reader (the machine is about 2 months old).
    What is going on?
    Any ideas?
    Thanls,
    Michael

    Ok Mr. Micheal,
One thing you can attempt to do is download the SmartCard Reader Driver for Windows 8 (64-bit) - ThinkPad on the Lenovo website. The path you need to take is listed below.
    1. Go to the Lenovo website (www.lenovo.com)
    2. Select the support link at the top of the page
    3. Your going to see for windows listed select the type of support you need, so select drivers and software
    4. Its going to ask for your machine information so enter in your machine type or your product ID
    5. Scroll down to camera and card reader and open the link
    6. Download SmartCard Reader Driver for Windows 8 (64-bit) - ThinkPad
    7. Follow the set up wizard and one the driver is installed reboot your machine
Please respond once this action is performed and let me know if this happens to resolve your issue. Thank you

  • My Mac Pro will read thumb-drive but not CF card reader

Can someone help me resolve this problem?
I just erased everything off my Mac Pro and reconfigured everything (as new). I installed all my programs, primarily Aperture3 and Photoshop CS5
    (using Leopard).
I had NO problem uploaded some photos into Aperture3 from a thumb drive using the USB port, BUT,
when I tried to upload photos from my card reader the MacPro does not recognize the card reader using the same USB port.
I figured the problem was a bad card reader, so I tested it on my PC and it recognized the card reader and uploaded all the photos.
Also, the card reader's green light turns on when attached to the MacPro, as if it is working and connected but it does not register in Finder or desktop to indicate that the card reader is installed.
I even tried to upload directly from my Canon 7D and it also did NOT recognize the camera.
Why would the MacPro recognize the thumb drive on the same USB port and not the card reader or the camera?
    Please help!

  • Inbuilt speakers, microphone & SD card reader slot is not working from day one

    Dear friend
I bought my HP mini (model no. Hp Mini 110-3009TU; Sr. No. CNC02139GY) on 14th august 2010 from Home Comforts, MP Nagar Bhaopl, Madhya Pradesh, India. I bought it without any operating system and installed Linux [Ubuntu 10.04 (lucid)] on it. I'd like to inform you that it has two problems form day one.
First problem is with inbuilt speakers & microphone, which are not functioning. However my headphone are working with this laptop. So I believe there is no problem with sound related driver. I think it is a hardware problem.
Second problem is in SD card reader slot, which doesn't read inserted SD card.
I've gone to HP service centre situated in MP Nagar, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India. Experts over there said that they'll have to formate existing operating system (Linux) and need to install Windows to 'check' whether the said hardware(speakers, microphone & SD card reader) are working or not. Otherwise I've to bring one more laptop so same brand and same model, then only they can check by replacing parts.
Both the options they'd given were ridiculous! I didn't understood why they are forcing me to install Windows?
If HP is also selling laptops without any operating system, then it means the costumer is free to install any operating system of his/her choice. And why should I bring one more laptop? Doesn't your service centre equipped with proper instruments and expertise to check hardware of a laptop?
Pretty girls working in your service centre were totally unaware of card reader – how does it functions?
Even they didn't had any SD card to insert and check.
One among them told me in soft voice: “Sir, you'll have to purchase one 'Jack' for this.” When I inquired further what is 'Jack' and why should I have to purchase it when all other laptops doesn't need such jack? She gone mute as my inbuilt speakers.
Even if I do allow your service centre to install Windows to try out whether speakers, microphone and card reader is working or not, its sure 'experts' at your service centre will install pirated version of Windows. Is it not a malpractice? Does HP allow its service centre to do so??
And further, even if I ignore your malfunctioning for my benefit, could your service centre assure me that inbuilt speakers, microphone and card reader will function properly in Linux as well. Because I would like to continue using Linux.
I request you to look into the matter and tell me what to do.
    regards,
    amit kohli

Anyone know how much it typically costs to replace the card reader hardware? Mine isn't reading, however I reason to believe the hardware was damaged.

  • Connect smart card reader over usb and access digital signature certificate

    Hi,
I got digital signature certificate stored in a smart card.I places smart card into card reader and plugged usb port of server.
I can see card reader in windows environment. My problem is to connect card reader and access digital signature certificate using java code.
I thinh it needs javax.smartcardio but i did not find necessary jar file for jdk 1.5.xx.
1- Where can i download jar fiel for javax.smartcardio for jdk 1.5.xx
2- Is there a blog or forum thread to help me to use smart card over usb?
    Thanks.

One of the beauty of Java is that when the Java VM does not let you do something (here: accessing a Smart Card), there is no way that a purely Java solution will add this functionality.
Hence, what you ask simply can not be done in pure Java (1.)5. Some machine-specific non-java code is required. And you did not specify your target.
Unless a jar file could contain machine-specific code (I don't know if this is the case, and I never made one such jar file), there seems to be no way a jar file could help.

What type of card are we talking about here?  I use the SD card reader on my system daily.  Works like a charm.
I have never gone near a Sony stick.  Cannot help you there.
XD cards had not been enabled in the Arch build of the kernel.  I had been helping someone with this and they filed this bug report  I believe the kernel module should not be enabled, but you might need to install the ssfdc module (check the end of the thread on that bug report)

Hi ive got 2 quick questions i need help with
1/ I've got these components in my mega 651
    512 pc2700 ram
    120 gb hd maxtor

    64mb geforce 4 mx440

I want to upgrade my graphics card to ati Radeon 9200 128mb, and put in another stick of 512 ram. (same brand and speed)
Just wanted to know if the mega 651 psu, could handle these changes and run smoothly?
2/ I cant seem to install the card reader, its never been reconised in windows xp with the "new hardware detected", i've tried pluging and unpluging it from the motherboard, but that doesnt work. Is there settings I need to change in the bios, and what should the card reader be under in device manager?

as for your card reader problems, i fear you may have a faulty unit.
There should be two devices listed under "Disk Drives" in Device Manager:
    OEI-USB CompactFlash USB Device
    OEI-USB SM/MS/SD USB Device
and in My Computer you'll see two "Removable Drives"
The other possiblity is that you are running an old version of Windows XP without Service Pack 1 installed, which has a USB patch included. Do other USB devices work?
Its possible that the devices are not being recognised because this patch is not installed. Visit Windows Update to download the latest updates.
Lastly, make sure that the USB controller is Enabled in the BIOS settings.
Thanks for the reply, I'm using windows xp with sp1 and updates, all the other usb ports seem to working ok, so i think it just may be a faulty card reader

  • SD card not mounting in card slot, mounts only with USB card reader

    hi all,
I have browsed this forum "Ports and interfaces on the MacBook Pro (2008 and Later)" for a bit and searched for "SD" but did not find any posts directly related to my issue here.
I have a Kingston 512Mb card which mounts in my MacBook Pro only when I insert it in a cardreader inserted in the USB port.
Directly in the memory card slot it does not mount. Other SD cards do mount. I did not yet recognise a pattern in what mounts and does not mount.
I need to mount this specific SD card in the memory slot because bigger, newer SD cards are not accepted by the device I am using the card in (an iRex iLiad).
The Kingston 512Mb SD card is formatted as MS-DOS (FAT16) according to Disk Utility.
Any suggestions on what I could try? Buying other 512Mb cards is not that easy, there is not a lot available and only the ones on this list http://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/IliadSD_Memorycardslist are supported by the device.
    TIA!

Within a year or two, a device that is limited to 512MB and smaller cards — and only certain ones of those — will probably be completely useless. As you've found, no one else is interested in buying such tiny cards any more, and their production is likely to be discontinued very soon.
This does nothing to explain why your card can't be read in the built-in reader, though. One thing to check is the position of the "lock" slider on the card; a small handful of other posters with similar problems have reported that if the slider isn't securely locked or unlocked (I don't recall which), it gets disturbed as the card is inserted, and the card can't be read as a result.
If that doesn't solve the problem for you, just use your USB reader when you have to read that particular card. As you say, your other (presumably larger) cards are all read properly in the built-in reader, so you know the reader works. There may just be a minute manufacturing-tolerance problem with that particular card.

  • Media card reader not reading in usb port

Usb problems? or is something set wrong? any thoughts?

Did you ever get your issue resolved? I'm having the same problem using a Targus card reader. I have used it for over a year. It has worked perfectly until the last few weeks. Today, we purchased another card reader. Iphoto still will not recognize it.

  • HT4623 Can I use lightning SD camera card reader after upgrading my iPad 4 to iOS. 7?

    Hi! All,
I am using lightning SD camera reader with my iPad 4 running with iOS 6 without any problem. But I would like to upgrade to iOS 7. I saw some reviews
after upgrading the card reader is not working. I contacted apple support community people for the above issue recently through chat. They said the device should work even after upgrading. I have not yet upgraded. But iOS 7 is tempting with its amazing look. What do I do? If I upgrade and my SD card reader wont work then I will be in great disapppointment. Please help if any body has answer for my problem..

If your SD card reader is from Apple, you shouldn't have any problems. If your card reader is from a 3rd party source, it's possible to have a problem. Do the update.
