  • Problems connecting iTunes PC to recognize Apple TV

I got a new Apple TV 2nd generation but I am having problems to get it recognized through the iTunes installed in my PC.  It works fine from my other apple devices: Ipad, Iphone and Mac Air.
The itunes version installed in my PC is 10.5.2.11.  I enabled the home sharing in my PC using my Apple id.
I can see the home sharing library from my Ipad, from my Iphone and from my Mac Air using the Remote application.
I can reproduce music and videos from my Ipad, my Iphone and my Mac Air to my Apple TV,  in all of them I can choose the Apple TV as a device to reproduce when reproding music or videos locally stored in either device..   I can not select Apple TV when I access the Home library of my PC from any of my Mac devices (Ipad, Iphone or Mac)
Also, when using iTunes from my PC, the only that is not recognizing and not showing the Apple TV is the PC with itunes, where I have the libraries with music and videos that is the one that I use to sync my Ipad, Iphone and Mac.   I can not see the libary of my PC from Apple TV either.   When I select "share libary" in my PC, it shows briefly the shared libary but dissapears again.   I have tried disabling the Firewall from my PC (McAfee), but the problem persists.  I have ried to unstill and reinstall iTunes on the PC, but the problem continues. PC is connected to my local network using Wifi by WPA encryption.
What can I do to solve the problem?    How should I connect or set up my PC and iTunes on it to properly be able to share the library, get it seen from the Apple TV , get Apple TV recognized by Itunes and ultimately, to be able to reproduce Videos and Music selecting Apple TV as Output device in itunes from my PC?

Navigate to Settings > Computers > Your Library on the Apple TV, you may be told you will lose all synced content, but you can sync it back afterwards, you won't lose any purchased content that has yet to be transferred. Then select Settings > Computers > Connect To iTunes, note the passcode that appears on screen, click on the device in iTunes and enter the passcode when prompted.

  • Problems connecting iTunes to WD My Book World.

    Windows 7.
Western Digital My Book World Edition 1TB networked storage drive.
Current firmware and software (iTunes 11). On a fresh install with old libraries deleted.
New dual-band router (DLink DIR-815) set up with identical permissions and structure as previous.
** When I load iTunes, according to what I've found so far, all I should need to do is to click on the "shared libraries" and select the drive, and voila, music to stream. It either "loads" for a second, then back to current tab (no music) or "loads" indefinitely to no avail.**
WD has software on the drive to stream to iTunes, this feature has been enabled and set to scan for new media every 30min.
Firewall permissions are all set to allow.
All devices are within the same workgroup. (WORKGROUP)
I can access any and all media via My Computer, as well as through Twonky Media Server (also built into the drive).
Bonjour and iTunes services are running and have been restarted, along with the computer itself.
I was able to access all my media via a local library PRIOR TO this version of iTunes.
Also found some discussion on the WD forums concerning this issue but as in this support community, mostly having to do with incompatibility with this drive and Macs.
What I would LIKE to be able to do is to store all my media on the NAS, along with an iTunes library that can be dynamically updated from multiple PCs on the network. I use one of my PCs for managing music, and the other for listening/viewing/syncing w. ipod, etc. so individual libraries on separate PCs does not make sense. Also, with the WD stream running, I should be able to access my library and stream it to other devices on my network, such as an iPad or iPhone.
TYIA for any help & suggestions for what to try next, otherwise I go back to the supremely annoying and inefficient individual libraries.

I hhave this exact same problem. itunes changed a protocol which nolonger works after itunes 10,2.
either downgrade your itunes or, i got WD to reimburse me for the purchase of my mybook because it doesnt work as an itunes server

If you have followed the standard Apple troubleshooting processes (see user guide )
probably a trip to the local Apple Store Genius bar is called for before warranty runs out
Assuming the iPad has been released in your Country if not you may have to take it to a
neighbouring Country where it is available

  • "There was a problem connecting to the server" in iTunes after migrating to new mac

I have a problem that is driving me crazy with my brand new iMac. I see many other people posting similar issues, but none of the other solutions seem to work for me.
I had a MacPro and bought a new iMac, on which I used Migration Assistant to set up. So the new iMac is virtually the same as my old machine in terms of appearance and installed applications. Both machines have Mountain Lion 10.8.2. All software on both machines has been through Software Update and is fully up to date, as are the connected devices (iPhone and iPad).
The problem is with iTunes. Every time I start iTunes (I think at the moment it checks my two connected devices) I get a pop up dialogue saying:
There was a problem connecting to the server "MacPro".
The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again.
This dialogue continues to pop up constantly as long as iTunes is open, interrupting my work and frustrating me no end. The old machine is of course turned off and indeed is not available -- but I can't find what on the new iMac is so desperate to connect to it.
So far I have tried completing erasing my iTunes library, deleting all the preferences, reinstalling iTunes from a fresh download of the dmg, safe rebooting several times with no peripherals connected at all, and deleteing other preferences like the Login Items, iPhone config and iPhoto. I have also cleared Recent Items from the apple menu and opened "Connect to Server" in the finder and cleared all servers from the dropdown menu.
Last night I also completely restored my iPhone from scratch to see if that would clear away the issue and I have connected both iPhone and iPad to go through any apps that have permission to write content to my computer and deleted all of them completely from the devices.
Nothing has changed at all after all that, and I have run out of ideas. Clearly there is something somewhere that has my old machine's name hard coded in it but I can't see any way to search for it. I would grep my Library folder but I think a lot of the files are binary so I'm not sure that would unearth anything. I've seen many posts saying that Apple phone support (which I would qualify for) can't help with this issue and so I have put off phoning them to simply run through all the things I've already tried.
Any advice that anyone could offer would be extremely helpful. I can't use iTunes at all like this as it disrupts everything I try to do on the new machine.
    many thanks!!

Nothing at all? Can't anyone help with this issue at all? I would be grateful for any suggstions as it is driving me crazy. It happens every time I open iTunes and also every time I open Mail.

hello, i am having problems with itunes store. it wont connect almost as if its hanging, any ideas how to fix this problem

    BOB we need you urgently
Perhaps Bob will see this thread, he is the professor in these cases.
You do not use a WEP password but wpa/wpa2 on router and equipment.
All equipment connects to WiFi, but for your iPad.
Even with all other equipment WiFi off, you cannot connect your iPad.
Your iPad connects to other WiFi nets correctly.
All resets etc done on iPad and Router.
Still I am not sure it is your router for sure, frustrating...
I want to test 2 other things:
    1. in your iPad, set everything OFF in Settings/Cellular, turn off/then/on your WiFi, and see whether it will still not connect...
    2. If that does not do it: disconnect the router as well as the modem from the power, for 15 seconds, then reconnect the modem, let it fully start, then reconnect the routet let it fully start, turn of your WiFi in iPad, then on, and see whether it will connect.

    Hello Makiaveli,
It sounds like you are getting this error code when you are trying to access the iTunes Store.
I found this article with this error listed in the symptoms section, for you that should help troubleshoot the issue named:
Apple software on Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4123
    Resolution
The cause for these issues is a program that monitors the Winsock protocol for Windows conflicting with Apple software. These programs usually use a Layered Service Provider (LSP) that can help identify the particular program installed. The programs that monitor this protocol have a variety of purposes, including security software, content filtering, and optimization of network traffic.
    To find the LSP:
Download Autoruns for Windows from Microsoft
Look for Autoruns.ZIP and open the compressed folder.
After reviewing the contents and the license, drag autoruns.exe to the desktop.
    Open Autoruns.
Click on the tab that says Winsock Providers.
A list of items should appear. A column showing the publisher should be available.
For items other than Bonjour, which is from Apple, check with the publisher for updates to resolve the conflict between their software and Apple software.
If the publisher is unfamiliar to you, you may be able to use the table below to find out more information about the origin of the modifications to Windows.
Some of the publishers and programs that are known to have versions with a conflict are listed below:

Once you've identified the third-party software that installed the LSP, you should check for updates. If the software is your security software, see iTunes: Troubleshooting security software issues for additional information.
Bytemobile is usually associated with cellular data connection software. You may want to check if your provider has instructions to disable or uninstall that portion of the software, such as these instructions from AT&T.
Note:  If unsure on the origin of your LSP, you may try to locate vendor information to determine which software is responsible for the non-default value here.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    SterlingD

I have removed all music/movies/etc. from iTunes due to duplicates. I have connected iTunes to a NEW library (38.33 GB) only to have the same problem, duplicates (2 or 3 of every song or 63.80 GB). I did not have this problem until syncing my library with the new Macbook Pro. I need a solution (a solution IS NOT sifting through my iTunes song by song and deleting the duplicates).

Try disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall.
    - Next try the manual install method of:
iDevice Troubleshooting 101 :: iPhone, iPad, iPod touch
Place the iPod in recovery mode after the firmware download is complete and then restore using the instructions in the article. Sometimes recovery mode timeouts and returns to disabled before the firmware download is complete.
    - Then try on another computer
