Problemi Imac g5 in rete

Ho un Imac g5. OSX 10.4.6.
Grazie
Andrea

Yes, I supposed that tis forum is mayorly in english.
Now, my english is quite terrible, and I hope in the italian users.
May be in italy there are few Mac users.
So I retry in english.
Please do not laugh.
I have a Imac g5. OSX 10.4.6. I can connect it in Internet, upload and download, I can connect an Ibook (OS 10.3) and see all volumes on it. Connecting a PC (win XP pro) I only can connect to default public folders. If I try to share all HD (C:) from g5 I see only the alias (or win name) of c: ; c.ink and I'm not able to browse this volume.
Moreover, i cannot connect my g5 from any computer, Mac or Win, on my LAN, I see it, but the login is unsuccessful.
USN and PW are of course correct.
Until I used OS9 I never had any problem.
Can someone help me?

  • Start up problems iMac 27"

Would anyone be able to help?
The power in the house has been down, and now my iMac doesn't start. (it is a bit more than a year old). When I push the power button on the back of the screen, the fan starts on quite high rev and go for a minute or so, then it turns itself off. Some times thescreen lights up and the tone signal goes off, but the it does again.
I have ahd this problem onece before, and the it was cured with a Power Conroler Unit something reset. I can find that instructions on the internet unfortunateley.
    Can someone help?
    Many thanks in advance Ove

The first thing you should do after getting the machine up and running is buy yourself a decent UPS, they can be for less than $100. Get one with a USB connection so you can connect it to your iMac and then control it.
I would recomnend doing a SMC and PRAM reset first:
    SMC RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • Fans run full speed on stand-by and burner problem iMac 24-inch early 2009

In standby sometimes the fans are running at full speed. Also with burning some CD or DVD's the burner makes an awful grunting sound.
For a 2 year old Mac I did not expect to have these kind of problems!
Resetting the iMac does not help. Might this be a Lion problem?
Optical Drive is running at 4800rpm, normal 798rpm
Hard Drive at 5903rpm, normal 1599rpm
    CPU at 3598rpm normal, 1200rpm
The burning problem only happens sometimes, not with all.

What did you do to reset the imac? Problems like these are "sometimes" solved with an SMC reset.

  • "Sleep" Problem iMac (Manual)

Commencing possibly two months ago I found that my usual procedure of manually sleeping my iMac (Apple | Sleep) at bedtime became erratic: Quite frequently (~75%) the iMac would instantly reawaken after about 1 or 2 seconds!
Discussing this problem with Apple Care, it was suggested that resetting the Power Management feature might solve the problem (shut down iMac, disconnect power, depress "on" switch 10 seconds, reconnect power).
This procedure seemed to correct the issue (but note that problem was never 100%). But it soon reappeared. I repeated the Power Management reset... and again it seemed to work. But... all was illusory!
Any "cures" known? I have a case number with Apple Care, but doubt they have anything new to suggest

If you select the option to preserve users and network preferences, an Archive and Install isn't such a problem.
However, my suggestion would be to Install on a freshly erased external hard drive using your original discs that came with the computer. Operate with that plain system long enough to determine if the problem no longer exists. I would then update that system to the last system version you used where you did not experience the wireless problem.
At this point you can then try an Archive and Install on your main drive then return to the working version using the appropriate Combo Updater. Just be sure to select the option to preserve users and network settings.
Beyond this I have no other options for you given you say you've tried everything else. You could take it to an Apple service center to determine if there is a valid hardware issue that can be fixed. Even marginal RAM could cause such a problem but would be difficult to track down because RAM tests may not reveal a problem.

  • HELP: iPhoto 6.0.6 memory usage problem, iMac getting *slow*

    Hi,
    I have a 20" iMac with 2 Gig RAM.
I have iPhoto 6.0.6 with lots and lots of pictures and little movies (taken with an old digital camera) -- a "get info" on the "iPhoto Library / Originals" folder says there are 9836 items in there.
When I open iPhoto, the Activity Monitor indicates iPhoto is using 130meg real memory, 130meg virtual memory. With every "page down" in iPhoto (the thumbnails are running about 6 items across) about 50 meg of memory gets added to real memory, and even more gets added to virtual memory.
After just a few minutes of usage it now looks like this:
    Real Memory: 382.43 MB
    Virtual Memory: 1.18 GB
Eventually the computer gets extremely slow and unresponsive; I've seen the iPhoto memory usage as high as:
    Real Memory: 1+ GB
    Virtual Memory: 2+ GB
Does anyone have any suggestions for how I can fix this problem?

I have to say that the Virtual Memory numbers compare quite okay with both my Macs here, the Actual Seems slightly higher but noting spectacular. That said, the highest you’ve seen do see quite extraordinary.
    Something to try:
Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts) and make a library there. Import some pics and see if the problem is repeated there.

  • Standby problem iMac

Hi, i have iMac 21.5" with iCore 5 and OS 10.7.4
    I have two problems:
    1) i can't update iTunes to 10.6.3: the answer is that the update is fake and will be downloaded and checked next Software Update. But when i launch soft upd anything change
    2) i have the 10 minutes default Standby. During standby, if i touch the keyboard soon (5 minutes after standby) it's ok. If i wait 10-15 minutes after standby, the iMac screen stay dark and start a continous sound "beep beep beep". I must restart with power button
    Please, have you some idea?
    Many thanks!!!

Three beeps mean the RAM (memory) is probably bad and needs replacing.

  • Wireless problem - imac and macbook pro conflict

    Hi,
since upgrading both my macbook pro and my imac to snow leopard I have this wifi problem:
    - when both computers are set to use airport, only the imac is able to transmit/receive.
in network diagnostics on the macbook pro: Airport, Airport Settings and Network Settings are OK (green). but ISP, Internet and Server fail(Red).
If I turn the imac's airport off, the macbook pro airport springs into life (all green)
The IP addresses shown in the network preferences are different.
so... I can use them separately but not together
    I'm using a netgear DG834G router
    xtra info :
There are 2 other computers that are often connected to the router, neither experiencing any network problems - and having no effect on the above problem in any combination.
    these are:
    1) macbook running tiger via wifi
    2) pc running some kind of weird windows thingy via ethernet
    any ideas?

There's an issue in Snow Leopard where dynamic addressing is concerned. Both my Macs running SL (an Ethernet connected desktop and a MacBook Pro connecting via Airport Express) have IP conflicts when a new device joins my network. The solution that works for me is to set up a new Location in the Network preferences, click the Advanced button, navigate to the TCP/IP tab and select Manually from the "Configure IPv4" pull down. Type in a manual address that's within your subnet (you can pick up most of the correct information from the Automatic Settings). Most routers give you 50 addresses to pick from. Just pick one that's less likely to be used than the first 5 addresses.

  • IMac disk drive problem, iMac disk drive problem

Hi.  Don't have original software disks.  Anything I need to do before I bring in my iMac to the Genius Bar?   I haven't been able to backup via time machine since I've purchased this iMac a few years ago.   Any helpful insights or suggestions?

You will need an external disk drive that's freshly erased.
Clone Lion/Mountain Lion using Restore Option of Disk Utility
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
         1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu then press the Continue
             button.
         2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
         3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
         4. Check the box labeled Erase destination.
         5. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it
             to the Destination entry field.
         6. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
             the Source entry field.
         7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.
Shutdown and reboot hangs usually are caused by applications or other processes that have crashed and are interfering with the shutdown process. Open Console in the Utilities folder to see if there are messages indicating what specifically is causing the problem.
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu.  Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order.  See if any running process is listed in red or is otherwise shown as not responding.
Before you do a shutdown you could instead try quitting every open program you have run. If one or more refuse to quit then you know which is causing the problem.

  • Starp up problems -Imac Duo Core

    Imac DuoCore 1.83
Upgraded to Leopard several months ago without problems.
Two days ago the following started:
    1. Starts up-no chime
    2. Apple logo is seen (grey)
    3. light blue screen with progress wheel-not the pinwheel)
    4. screen dims a bit, progress wheel dissappears then comes back and it does
    the same thing.
I ran the Disk First Aide frim the CD, performed verify and repair disc.
    Came back with repaired completed.
    Restarted...but the problem persists.
Ran the CD a few times with the same result.
    Any ideas???
    Thanks in Advance
    RL Mora
    PS
There is nothing else attached and or installed hardware wise

    Try running the hardware diagnostics:
How to run hardware diagnostics for an Intel Mac
Boot from your original OS X Installer Disc One that came with your computer. After the chime press and hold down the "D" key until the diagnostic screen appears. Run the extended tests for a minimum of two or three hours. If any error messages appear note them down as you will need to report them to the service tech when you take the computer in for repair.
    Some "common" error indicators:
    SNS - sensor error
    MEM - memory error
HDD - hard disk drive error
    MOT - fan error

  • Grounding (power) problems Imac 21.5"

Does anyone else have this problem with their intel Imac? I am hoping that under my applecare I will get a new computer or a repair. I use my computer for audio at my recording studio and have always used Mac's but this one had me stumped until I found more people that were finding "digital Hash" (digital noise) being recorded with audio signal.
I tore my studio apart only to find it was the computer that was the problem.

What I found was this. When I hooked up my Imac to a mixer via a Steinberg MR816 interface I got what I've seen described as "digital Hash". The sound of the computer processing was being recorded along with the signal I intended to record. I went through a lengthy process of checking each piece of equipment on it's own and in combination. Eventually I plugged a 1/4" cable into my interface and simply touched other equipment (on their metal chasis) to see which piece would generate this noise and create a ground loop. It made the noise with each piece of equipment I touched that had it's own power source and ground. It made the noise even if I touched a screw on my powered monitors. It did not make the noise if I simply plugged in an unpowered instrument like a guitar.
Everything was always plugged into one electrical outlet. I tried 6 different grounded outlets. If I plugged the Imac into a power bar which was not grounded the noise was gone and all the equipment sounded as it should. The Imac was the problem and it was the last place I looked.
But I only knocked out the ground for a moment as I do not wish to run the Imac ungrounded.

  • Restoring Problem iMac from Time Machine

I have been having problems with my iMac pretty much since it was new. It takes several minutes to restart, hanging on the blue screen before the login window comes up (see this thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=13362863#13362863). I have several programs that crash on a regular basis and need a force quit, after which I cannot restart the computer and must manually shut it down. The permissions seem to get messed up quickly and require extensive repairs. I suspect that something went wrong during the migration from my MacBook Pro back in February. If I do a restore from Time Machine, will this just restore the corrupt data and leave me with the same problems? What is the best way to clear out any corrupt data and restore my applications and data? I am getting to the point where I want to return the iMac to a brand new clean state and start all over, but I need to be able to recover my data. I will try to provide any information that might be useful. Thanks for any help you can provide.

    Probably.
First, the permissions messages may not really be problems; see [Mac OS X: Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions messages that you can safely ignore|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448].
Also, be sure you're running +Repair Permissions+ while booted from Mac, not the Startup Disk. See [About Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions feature|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1452].
If you suspect your installation of OSX is damaged, install a fresh copy (that won't affect anything else), then the "combo" update. See [Installing the ''combo'' update and/or Reinstalling OSX|http://web.me.com/pondini/AppleTips/Combo.html].
Try a Safe Boot: [Starting up in safe mode|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/21245.html].
Also see: [Multiple applications quit unexpectedly or fail to launch|http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/multipleappsquit.html]. You've already done some of the things there, but not all. Note that it hasn't been updated for a while, but there aren't that many differences between Leopard and Snow Leopard.
