Problems Accessing Frequent Site

Hi All,
For some reason one of the sites that I visit frequently I can not access on my Macbook anymore. I've been able to access this site everyday up until yesterday evening on my Macbook. I checked with the site's administrator to make sure it wasn't an issue on their end and it's not. My friends are able to get on the site without any problems and I'm able to access every other site but that site on my Macbook.
I've looked through a few topics and tried a few of the suggestions and when one the phone with technical support we did a ping. Below are the ping results (which I have no idea what it means):
Ping has started ...
PING lipstickalley.com (208.43.228.120): 56 data bytes
--- lipstickalley.com ping statistics ---
10 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss
When I talked to the Admin of the site they gave me the steps to flush the dns so i ran dscacheutil -flushcache from the terminal but that didn't work. Finally I was told to contact my ISP and we reset the modem, cleared cache, reset safari clearing the cookies and still no luck. One other suggestion I found was to lower the MTU from the terminal and I was given this command:
sudo ifconfig en1 mtu 1480 but when I input the command it asks for a password and when I try to input my password it won't type in the screen. I'm not sure what other steps to take to resolve the issue but any advice I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks.

Thanks. Well I tried that option and it still didn't get me back to the site.
I called my ISP and I was able to connect to the site when I plugged the Ethernet cable into my laptop but when I set it back up with my wireless router I still wasn't able to access it. My ISP provider reset the modem and that seemed to work to get me on-line using the regular modem without the wireless router so my ISP advised me to contact the manufacture of my wireless router because it's obviously something blocking the site from within the wireless router.
Well, I called Linksys and was on the phone with them for 2 hours trying to reconfigure and reset the wireless router and nothing they tried worked to get me back connected to the site. This is so frustrating. It's one of my favorite sites and for it to just stop working so suddenly has baffled me. I don't know what else it could be. My ISP says everything is fine on their end, customer support for my wireless router says everything is fine on their end and when I contacted the system administrator for the actual site they say I should be able to get on. Everyone seems to access the site just fine. I don't know what else it could be.

  • Safari and iTunes having problems accessing secure sites

I've been having problems with iTunes not being able to access the iTunes Store. I can browse the store but can not add anything to my shopping cart. I decided it was time to see if Safari was having problems with secure sites and sure enough I discovered that it can not access secure sites either. The only way I've been able to access secure sites is via Firefox.
A typical scenerio is that I can not log onto my Apple ID. As soon as I click on the "sign in ID" link I get a pop-up stating that a secure connection to store.apple.com can not be established.
So far I've tried clearing the Safari cache and deleting site keys from my stored key chains. Nothing helps.
    I'm running Safari 1.3.1 and iTunes 4.9.

    Can anyone help?

  • Problems accessing both sites in safari and itunes store account

I hope someone might be able to help me solve two really frustrating issues.
About three weeks ago, my safari browser stopped working properly (e.g I can no longer access a number of websites - usually with a .com suffix (e.g. www.pocruises.com and msn.com and others are slow to load). I had downloaded no new third party software, but had downloaded software updates on 26 January (Java for mac update 6, security update 2010-001 and the iphoto update). When I attempt to load a site, the address just hangs. I have seen a number of similar queries on the discussion forum, but I don't fully understand the technical aspects of some of the answers. I have cleared the cache, reset safari, tried launching from applications and even repaired permissions, but nothing has worked. I downloaded firefox, but was also unable to access these sites through that browser either.
On 7 February, I downloaded the latest version of itunes (9.0.3) and now I am unable to access my itunes store account. When I enter my apple ID and password nothing happens. This means I am unable to fully sync my iphone (i.e. for apps >10mb) and cannot download the latest version of the iphone software. On the advice of itunes support, I have completely uninstalled itunes and reinstalled, though that took 4 attempts because of the safari problem mentioned above, but this has made no difference. Incidentally, I have no problem accessing the itunes store through my iphone.
Can anyone please help a very frustrated (and otherwise happy) mac user?
    Cameron

    Hi Bee,
The most recent "Safari" crash log dates back to December last year - I can't remember having problems that far back, but here it is anyway. I was beginning to suspect that my safari problems were affecting itunes, though that certainly worked fine until I downloaded the most recent version - 9.0.3 and that was just a few weeks ago.
I suppose the other question is whether an upgrade to snow leopard would solve these problems better rather than a reinstall of the current version (if that becomes necessary?)

  • I'm having problems accessing a site, only on FIOS.

Hello, I am QuillDepot, named after a NYC bus depot. I am having problems accessing site, (nyctransitforums.com) getting the message "Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to www.nyctransitforums.com". I am in NYC and I have talked to having problems in NYC as well. I have accessed the site using other things beside FIOS and through proxy's. Any help?
    Solved!

This has happened from time to time - but was not Verizon Blocking the website, but the other way around, the website usually will have an out of date bogon filter.    Verizon constantly is giving out new ip addresses to customers, sometimes with brand new IP Blocks as they get more and more customers.  So sometimes the filters in websites, are out of date and don't include the newest ip blocks.
Usually you can engage the website owner, ask them to update their bogon filter list with your subnet,  but if that is not easy, then you can turn off your router at night when you go to bed, the 4 hour lease on your ip address will break, 2 to four more hours pass, and your ip will go to a different customer, or cycled back into the cloud, and then when you wake up and turn it back on you will have a new ip, that is likely not blocked.
So give that a try.  OR if you are in a rush and need it asap, then release your DHCP ip leave your modem off for at least 10-30 minutes, so your IP can get cycled back into the cloud and you can get a new one.  if you do it too fast, then you will likely get the same ip and that defeats the purpose.

  • Problems accessing certain sites using graphite ABS

I have recently set up a new broadband account. I have a new netgear router and if i connect the router direct to my computer it's all set up fine and all works.
If I connect the router to my base station the ethernet light on the router stays red. I have done my best to set up the base station correctly and it works for nearly everything - I can access the internet, use my email client, log on to secure sites etc. BUT - I can't access hotmail or ebay - it finds the login pages but when i try to log on it spends ages trying to find the page then says it can't. I'm assuming this is related to whatever is making the router light red? I bought the router from the apple store and explained that I needed it to work with the old airport so is it the set up on the base station that is wrong? I can provide other info as necessary - thanks for any help. Soph.

Sophie, Welcome to the discussion area!

Read the router's user guide. I'm guessing that a red light indicates a 100 MB Ethernet connection. It probably does not mean that there is an error.

  • Problems accessing certain websites, regardless of selected browser

I use Safari as default, but the problem occurs also in Firefox.  Certain sites simply will NOT load, like ebay, www.kvraudio.com, and m.matrixsynth.com.
I have no problem accessing these sites on my iPhone or any other computer.  There is a laborious workaround: to unplug and replug my AirPort Extreme will at least load the front page of each of these.
I have run repair permissions many times to no avail.  What could be the culprit?  Cookies?  Any helpful suggestions would be welcome.

Hmmm....a quick glance at the "More like this" box on the right found my solution.  Apparently, replacing the DNS server did the trick.

  • Time Capsule preventing me from accessing some sites

    Hello,
I've been using a 1TB Time Capsule as a router and external HD in my home network for almost one year and never had this problem, but around 3 days ago I noticed that I couldn't access certain sites like wikipedia.org and last.fm anymore (My browser doesn't get past the "waiting for www.wikipedia.org" when I try) in any of the computers I have connected to the TC.
When I disconnected my modem from the TC and connected it directly to one of my computers I didn't have any problems accessing any sites, so the issue is definitely with the router.
I already tried rebooting the TC and renewing the DHCP on AirPort, but neither worked.
My TC has firmware 7.4.1 and is connected directly to 3 PCs running Windows XP Home with Firefox and wirelessly to 2 MacBooks running 10.5 Leopard with Safari, and they all have the same issue with the same sites.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    buemba,
I have been having the same exact problem--it just started about a week ago. I had gotten the 500gb Time Capsule in December and it has been working flawlessly until now.
I've had numerous conversations with my ISP (Comcast) who swears up and down that it is not their problem to correct. I've come to learn they might be right: I can plug my laptop directly into my cable modem and access the sites which I cannot access behind my TC. It isn't a problem limited to one computer on my network--I have three Apple computers and a Linux box that can't connect to the same sites.
I tried everything--restarted the TC, complete with new profile settings, did a powerflush of my modem, even left it off for a day hoping it would lease a new IP that would fix this problem (it didn't).
My wife and I both rely on our Internet to do University coursework, and unfortunately, one of the sites we can't access is our online classrooms. This is a HUGE problem. I've scoured the Internet searching for a solution to this issue but have yet to come across one that applies to the Time Capsule. I really don't want to stop using my TC's router capability but short of getting a new router, I don't have the solution for this problem and nobody else seems too, either.
    Apple: help, please?
UPDATE: Searched these forums, found a couple of other threads with other users having the same problem:

    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9421774

This is definitely not an isolated occurrence.

  • When I use the CTUOnline site, the IM window will not open, and the Outlook mail frequently crashes. I do not have these problems if I access the site via Safari. I am using a Mac OS 10.4.11.

I am teaching an online course through CTUOnline. I use a Mac OS 10.4.11. When I access the site thru Firefox, the IM chat window just says "Loading" but never loads. My campus mail, which is accessed through Outlook, frequently boots me out. I must copy and save every message, because I cannot predict when it will go through and when I will be thrown out. I have set my Preferences to allow pop-ups from ctuonline.edu and from campus.ctuonline.edu. I do not have these (connection?) problems when I access the site through Safari.

  • Username and Password Problems accessing site

Yesterday I created a blog using iWeb 09 and published it and went with the option that visitors needed to have the user name and password to access the site. Friends and family reported that these wern't accepted and I had the same problem when I tried. Publishing and accessing using mobile me by the way. Removing the password UN option removed the problem. I have installed the latest update to the iLife 09 suite. This problem occurred to those using both mac and windows. Is this a bug?

Make your site private and add a username and pw, then publish your site. You will get a popup when it is done publishing which gives you the option to announce your site. If you choose that option the user name and pw will be sent to those you choose. If you opt to have people visit your site, they will need the username and pw that you made youe site private with. Hope that helps.

  • I am still having problems accessing java script sites.  Anyone else having this problem?

I am still having problems accessing java script sites.  Anyone else having this problem?

Javascript can be left on, but Java (which is something very different) should generally be turned off.
Apple barred Java from running on Macs, leaving companies that rely on Java plug-ins out in the cold.
Apple blocked Java 7 Update 11 by adding it to the banned list in XProtect.
This was the second time in two weeks that Apple has blocked Oracle's code from running on Macs. This time Java is blocked through Apple's XProtect anti-malware feature.
Java has come under fire as the means by which hackers have been able to gain control of computers. In April 2012 more than 600,000 Macs were reported to have been infected with a Flashback Trojan horse that was being installed on people's computers with the help of Java exploits. Then in August Macs were again at risk due to a flaw in Java, this time around, there was good news for Mac users: Thanks to changes Apple has made, most of us were safe from the threat.
Unwilling to leave its customers open to potential threats Apple decided it's safer to block Java entirely.
Macs running OS X Snow Leopard and beyond are affected.
UPDATE for those running Lion or Mountain Lion:
Oracle on Friday February 1 released a new version reportedly addressing vulnerabilities seen with the last build.
Apple disabled Java 7 through the OS X XProtect anti-malware system, requiring users to have at least version "1.7.0_10-b19" installed on their Macs. The release dated February 1 carries the designation "1.7.0_13-b20," meeting Apple's requirements.
Oracle "strongly recommends" applying the CPU fixes as soon as possible, saying that the latest Critical Patch Update contains 50 new security fixes across all Jave SE products.
    Update foror Snow Leopard users:
Apple have issued update 12 for Java for OS 10.6:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1573
Note:  On systems that have not already installed Java for Mac OS X 10.6 update 9 or later, this update will configure web browsers to not automatically run Java applets. Java applets may be re-enabled by clicking the region labeled "Inactive plug-in" on a web page. If no applets have been run for an extended period of time, the Java web plug-in will deactivate.

  • Problems with Safari not being able to access key sites such as BBC news yet Firefox gives immediate access

Does anyone else have a problem accessing key web sites using Safari? I am frustrated with Safari particularly as I can get Access immediately using Firefox

    I regularly use cleanmymac
Which is a scam, but we can come back to that later.
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
and confirm. Test. If there's no change, see below.
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Problem accessing BBC News via iPad 2, iPhone or web

Anybody else have these problems - and solutions?
I have continuous, but erratic problems accessing BBC News either through MacBook Pro, iPhone 3G or iPad 2 (64G Wi-Fi & 3G).  Until a few months ago, I never had problems accessing BBC News via my computer.  Now I often cannot access the site at all, and problems occur whether I use Google Chrome (11.0.696.57)or Safari (5.0.5).  Erratically and less frequently, however, the pages load OK.  I have no problem loading other news websites, e.g. CNN or Al Jazeera.  I live in Spain.  My internet provider is Movistar. I have an ADSL connection of 10Mb (maximum available here) and a wireless router. My MacBook Pro runs OS X 10.6.7.
When trying to access BBC through Google Chrome, I get the following message:
Oops! Google Chrome could not find www.bbc.co.uk
    Try reloading: www.bbc.co.uk/news/
    Additional suggestions:
Access a cached copy of www.bbc.co.uk/news/
Trying to access BBC on Safari, I get this message:
    Safari can’t find the server.
Safari can’t open the page “http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world/” because Safari can’t find the server “www.bbc.co.uk”.
Using the BBC app on my iPad 2 and iPhone 3G, sometimes the BBC News loads OK, but more often, again, I  get this message:
    No network connection.
Sorry, you are currently offline and will not be able to view any updated content.
N.B.  I am clearly NOT "offline" at this time, since I can open any other web page.

I'm trying to access BBC news on iPad 2 through the app.  Have the same problems.
I wrote to BBC tech support complaining about my access problem through computer, iPhone and iPad.  On May 2, I received the following reply:
    Thank you for your email.
We are aware that some people in Spain are having problems accessing the
BBC News site.  We have identified the problem to the Telefonica ISP.
We have contacted Telefonica and they have advised anyone with problems
    to contact them directly
    Kind regards,
    BBC News website
Hence, I contacted Movistar (new name of Telefonica) tech support.  I was told they knew nothing about the problem and tried to blame my computer for it.  And then they hang up!!!  Not impressed!!
I wrote to BBC again on May 19 asking WHO I should contact in Telefonica/Movistar, since their tech support staff claim not to know about the problem  As of today, no reply from BBC, so still very frustrated!

  • Sharepoint foundation 2013 : After doing backup cannot access the site "Sorry, this site hasn't been shared with you"

I am using SharePoint Foundation 2013 , i have backed up the site using powershell with the following command:
    -backup-spsite -identity http://dmsserver/sites/demo/ -path C:\SPSiteBackup.bak
After backup finished, i can't access the site, the message "Sorry, this site hasn't been shared with you" appears, even the site administrator collection is configured coorectly, with the  Administrator account.
    Whats the problem?
    Please Advice.

    Hi husseinsa,
According to your description, my understanding is that you could not access the site after backing up the site collection in SharePoint 2013 Foundation.
Could you access other sites at the same site collection?
Let’s do a troubleshooting for this issue:
Please delete the IE cache:  IE options->General->Delete, select all checkboxes, and click Delete.
Go to CA->Application Management->Manage web applications, select the web application which hosts the problematic site .
Click Permisson Policy, make sure there are not any deny policies for site collection administrator and site collection auditor.
Back to the web application list page, click User Policy, check whether there are any user policies for denying permissions.
Change the site collection administrator or add a secondary site collection administrator in CA, then use the new site collection administrator to log in the site, compare the result.
Open IIS, expand the server, and click application pools.
Find the problematic web application pool, make the identity of the pool is correct, then do an IISRESET, compare the result.
If this issue still exists, please check the log file to find more information about this issue. The path of the log file is
    : C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\15\LOGS.
Or you can use Event Viewer(Start->Run->event viewer) to find the log.
    I hope this helps.
    Thanks,

  • Unable to Access Web Site (with same name) outside of Local Network

    Hi everyone,
I have my web site (and some other services) hosted outside of my network by my hosting provider, but handle all other items using OS X Server on my network (i.e. Wiki and so forth).
The problem is now that I am unable to access my website at www.mydomain.com from within the network. I have external DNS set up for www.mydomain.com to point to my website, while mydomain.com points to my OS X Server (static IP address). Internally in OS X Server's DNS settings this used to work when I had www.mydomain.com resolving to the IP address of my web host, in addition to the default domain settings that OS X had set up. For some reason this is no longer working, and I am unable to figure out why.
Using latest version of OS X Server 3.0.2.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Update: this ended up being a redirect issue on the web host. I added another subdomain that was hosted externally, and it worked fine. For some reason my web host is redirecting www.mydomain.com to domain.com.

I am in Texas and cannot get to that site either. Do you know for sure the site is up and working? It could just be down (for days, a site I support was down for almost 4 full days a few weeks ago due to a virus problem).
This may (again, may) be your problem: I see you have a173.48.x.x (you really should x-out the last two octets of your IP address for privacy reasons), I am on a 173.74.x.x address; I know some people have had problems with getting to some sites now that they have a 173.x.x.x address. I think Verizon obtained addresses in that range and some of the addresses apparently previously belonged to spammers or some malicious folks. Some sites (web sites, intermeidate routers, etc.) blocked those addresses, and may not have updated their filters to remove the block on those addresses because they don't know that Verizon now owns them. If this is the problem, eventually those filters will get updated and you will be able to access the site, but this could be a fairly long time.
If you know how to contact that site I suggest you email them about the problem. You can also try turning off your router overnight and when you turn it back on the next day you may find that you have a different address (one that doesn't start with 173) that will allow you to get to the site.
I don't think there is much Verizon can do to help, it is not their site that is blocking your address (at least I don't think it is).
    Hope this helps.
