Problems accessing my administrator account
Last night, I was turning on my computer, and it froze up at the blue screen before the login prompt. I used the Apple Hardware test, but there were no hardware issues. I then referred to my user's manual, and inserted the Mac OS install disk, and the login prompt finally appeared. However, only a backup account was available, the administrator account was unavailable. The files in the administrator account are still there, under the "Previous Systems" folder, but none of them are accessible. I tried logging in with the administrator user name/password, but was told they are both invalid. I don't have an external hard drive, thus cannot use Time Machine. I tried calling tech support, but was told I didn't talk fast enough, and they hung up on me.
So what do I do?
At some point you recently did an Archive and Install. However, it sounds like you did not check the option to preserve users and network preferences. The following should help:
How to get files from a previous home directory after Archive and Install
Mac OS X- How to recover a home folder (directory)

Ok, so about six months ago, my company let go of their Systems Administrator because she was causing many problems in the workplace... Yesterday morning i logged onto the server and found several files open with her name on them, including her confidentiality
agreement, and Employment offer letter, as well as the confidential folder that holds all employees personal identity information (she remote into the Server about 10 Minutes before i logged in, thus kicking her off not allowing her to close what she was opening/copying.
I attempted to check the logs to see what IP she was connecting with but was only able to find the following:
She remoted into the server about through Remote Desktop about 20 times on the 27th of May 2014, (horrible weather and she was probably logging in in a McDonald's Wifi and it kept kicking her off).
I took the day off because my area was flooded and couldnt make it to work.
She logged on, on the 28th of May, 2014 about 16 times before i logged on kicking her off, leaving everything she was doing open for me to see.
Everytime i remote into the server from my house or the office i get the following...

As you can see no IP address is shown unlike everyone other PC that remotes into the server... She has been using our server as her personal file host for her real estate business, she was fired last year for sabotaging AutoCad drawings her ex boyfriend
was working on (they are back together and was the one she set up with full access to server) and she has been adding and modifying files in her group drive via the administrator account. She also disabled several roles we had installed, and gave her
boyfriend (who happens to work at the company) More administrator right than myself, as I built the server from ground up, and Only the Company owners had access to remote desktop, besides the administrator account... I want to make sure she didn't create
any hidden accounts that she can still log into.. I found under ADSI Edit Under Domain Controllers, Subscription Properties an account (servername$) which doesn't not show up in active directory, but had full access to everything... Is there a way to uncover
hidden Accounts she may have created to get into the server, as I've know from previous experiences, that $ sign normally refers to a hidden account or file of some sort.. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated, The FBI is currently investigating
the situation, but i am trying to make sure all my basis are covered so this doesn't happen again... Thank you for taking the time to read my long ass thread, I will bestow upon you great fortune and Karma for any help given =-DHello,
the $ behind the machine name object is normal.
For security related questions please use
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/home?forum=winserversecurity
Also I would immediately remove all people form any kind of administrative groups, MUST of course be agreed from the company owner, then change the administrator account password. If there is a need for the additional administrators the company chief
has to agree on this and there should also be made some clear rules, maybe from a lawyer about consequences etc. Remote access to the network should be blocked or made more secure with two factor authentication, tokens for example, just using Remote Desktop
at the moment I would not allow until the network is better secured and you can be sure there are no unknown administrative accounts.

Problems accessing my Hotmail account
I can't access my Hotmail account. It's weird because I use the Safari normally and I have no trouble accessing any other website. Since Hotmail doesn't offer IMAP or POP support then I thought I could just access my mail account by using the Safari, and in fact the Apple support recommends doing that. But when I get to the login page and type my username and password and click enter, it goes back to the login page instead of going to my mail inbox.
What's happening? Can anyone help me out with this? I would really aprecciate it.
Lionkingg.Hey,
thanks for replying to my question! I'm actually using the wi-fi I have at home, and I access my Hotmail account on my laptop normally with the same one. I tried accessing it with some other wi-fi connections but the problem stayted the same, and I also tried a different account like you suggested and it didn't work as well. I'm afraid nothing worked...
But thank you for your suggestions anyway!

Cannot Access the Administrator Account
We have Windows 7 pro machines on a Server 2008 domain. I can't logon to a machine because the trust relationship with the domain has been lost. I have tried to remove the machine from the domain and then add it back, but the local administrators account
is disabled. None of the local accounts on the machine have administrative rights so I'm unable to do this as it says access is denied. I've tried all the various fixes, ie run mmc and enable administrators account, boot into safe mode etc but none work. Is
there a way to resolve this without reloading the machine with W7?Hi,
Please refer to following guide to enable built-in administrator account in WinRE. You need a installation media to start Windows into WinRE:
Windows 7: Built-in Administrator - Enable from WinRE
http://techlogon.com/2011/12/06/how-to-enable-the-hidden-admin-account-in-windows-7/
Then try to exit the domain.

Problem accessing my iTunes account
I cannot access my iTunes account despite using the correct password. I have also reset my password. I am able to access my billing information using my password burt I cannot access the iTunes store to upgrade apps or buy movies. No clue what's going on. And the genius bar can't figure it out either! And my repeated requests from apple support on line are always answered with the same recommendation , that I reset my password! VERY FRUSTRATING!!
SteveAnd the genius bar can't figure it out either!
So what did they end up doing? -
ITunes 7 Privilege Problems with Non-Administrator Account
Hello,
I've installed iTunes 7 on WinXP using my account, which is in the Administrators group. However, when I attempt to launch it under another account (which is in the Power Users group, but is not an administrator), a window is displayed with the following message:
"Please wait while Windows configures iTunes".
This occurs every time I launch iTunes. Afterwards, I sometimes receive a message indicating this account doesn't have privileges necessary to start a service and the configuration step is undone. Other times, I receive the following:
"An error occurred while updating the default player for audio file types. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation."
I really don't want to give this account Administrator privileges. What are my options?
Thanks. Here are a couple of things to try:
1. Create a group called IpodUsers
2. Add restricted users you want to access itunes
3. goto: START>MY COMPUTER navigate to Program Files
4. Find the iTunes, Quicktime, and Apple Update folder.
5. Right click on on the folder and select Properties goto the Security Tab
6. Click add, Add in IpodUsers, in the lower pane place check mark in Full Control box. Repeat for the other 2 folders
That should allow your users to access the program
To allow the access to the same library look here:http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93195
To have the same playlists etc look here:http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=1881635&tstart=25

hope this helps -
Hello,
I had no problem accessing my Gmail account through the mail icon until two weeks ago. I can still access my Gmail account through Safari, but when I attempt to access my Gmail through the mail icon, Gmail tells me that my password is invalid. Any Suggestions? Any help would be greatly aprecieated.
Thanks,
FrankI see you are using LastPass. Could that add-on be interfering with your login?? You could try disabling it temporarily under Tools > Add-ons to test that theory.

Problem with software update - now can't log on to administrator account
Hello -
I updated software yesterday and didn't pay attention to what was updating. I always just install the updates when they come up.
Now I can't login to my administrator account or change the password. I could log into another account, but iTunes won't stay open. It opens for about 10 seconds then closes.
So I'm assuming that the updates were a mac OSX update and an iTunes update.
Does anyone know why this is happening and how to fix?
Is there anyway to "undo" the most recent update?
Any help would be appreciated.
-jamendanHi jamendan, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!
If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to re-apply some the latest/biggest updates.
May even need to do an Archive and Install if you have room on the HD...
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
I only use Software Update to see what is needed, then get them for real via...
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/
That way I can wait a week or so, check the forums for potential problems, and get Permissions & such in order before installing. -

Resetting all iTunes preferences hasn't fixed this and neither has running on another account on the same computer. My private MacBook Pro is fine. I suspect a corrupt file somewhere (I have repaired permissions). -
Can anyone help me with this problem. ITunes message," The iTunes library file cannot be saved. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation." I have administrator account and transferred files from old PC. I downloaded new iTunes program on new PC. I synced my iPhone to new PC, no problem. I deleted old account after indicating shared files to new admin account. Can anyone help?
A belated reply, as the problems itunes has have discouraged me from using it much. If you uncheck the "read only" box, it doesn't stay that way! Next time you use it, the box comes up checked.
I'm still having that problem, even when I open iTunes as administrator.
I've yet to see the answer to this problem. I use itunes mostly to download audiobooks, and I'm ready to download more, and want to save them! -
Server 10.4.4, administrator account has "access account" disabled
Hi,
I allowed a new tech to add users to our Xserve. Somehow he disabled the check box "access acount" in workgroup manager for the only administrator account. It now appears we cannot turn this back on! The end result is you can only access workgroup manager locally.Remote desktop and VNC now won't work. We can't re-enable the "access account" option for the administrator account or create new administrators as our only administrator account is now not active. I have no idea why you should be able to do this, but duplicated the problem on a test machine. If you create an admin account and uncheck the box "access acount" then the server can no longer be adminstrated!
Any ideas?
Daveanswered my own question.
logged in as root and resolved, phew -
After trying to change permissions on my computer so others on my network can grab files, my external Hard Drive has a lock on it and I can't access files. I've tried repairing permissions, logging in under another Administrator account, using Terminal to fix the problem, downloaded BatChmod but nothing works… Any other suggestions? I have an Imac running OS10.6.8.
There is suddenly a lock icon on my external backup drive!

Project Server 2013 administrator account unable to access PWA site
I've just finished installing and configuring all the appropriate pieces to get PS2013 up and running along with a pwa site. The problem I'm running into is that my designated administrative account for the pwa site is unable to login at all. I receive
the "Sorry this site hasn't been shared with you." error. The domain account has all the appropriate permissions according
to the PS2013 guide, the services are all up and running, and the pwa site is provisioned. I'm at a loss as to what to change to access the pwa site.Using SharePoint Central admin navigate to PWA site provisioning page
Hover the mouse point over provisioned PWA site and select view.
Review Primary administrator's field.
Let me know if this does not help, we can also find out using querying database but only with SELECT query.
Since this is brand new PWA, you can delete the PWA site make sure to uncheck the check box delete site collection and re-provision PWA site using same name and database but this time you can either use old account or use new account

Problem Accessing Parental Control Sheet in Accounts Pref Pane
I have two computers, a B&W G3 and an AGP G4 Gigabit Ethernet (yes, I know they are old, but they work!), both experiencing the same problem after the latest Security Update 2008-008.
I have several user accounts on both machines. I am attempting to change parental controls to enable some accounts to have access to a new application.
1) I go to System Preferences > Accounts.
2) I click the lock icon and type an administrator name and password.
3) I select the user account I want and click Parental Controls.
4) When I click on the parental controls tab, the tab turns gray but doesn't change the screen. If I press the space bar, the window finally changes, but shows only Mail and I can't even configure that.
5) Clicking on the System Preferences icon in the Dock, I can select another prefpane to load, and it will switch to that pref pane if I select it.
6) This happens for EVERY account on the machine except the administrator account.
7) Looking at Console.app while going through this process, there is a looooong string of information about AppKit errors originating from System Preferences.app. I'm on my work computer right now, and so cannot copy and paste this info.
Other than a compelte archive and reinstall, does anybody know what's going on here, and how to solve it?Ok, thanks for the problem solving steps. Before I begin those, though, let me just paste the console output for this error here:
