Problems after computer sleeps.

About a week ago I started having the following problems whenever I would wake my computer up after sleep.
-Flash videos stop playing correctly, the video becomes extremely slow and jerky, beyond what's watchable. I tried watching flash using Firefox, Google Chrome, and Safari, and it was the same for all three.
-All audio stops completely, through both the internal audio card and my external Sennheiser USB audio card.
-Itunes stops functioning. When I click a song, it doesn't start scrolling as if it's playing but there's no audio, it just sits there.
-Programs that I have run many times before start giving me the pop-up dialog saying that the program has been downloaded from the internet and asks me if I'm sure I want to open it.
-Dual-monitor issue. Previously, whenever I would open up a new window for any program, it would open the window in the last monitor to have a window from that program, now it always opens the windows in the same monitor regardless.
The only thing that temporarily fixes these problems is to restart my computer, but whenever it goes to sleep and wakes up again they're all back. I've tried dumping both my local user cache and the global cache (Library -> Caches) but that hasn't fixed anything.

HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
Try Resetting the PRAM
Boot from your install disc, run Disk Utility to check the startup disc for errors.
Insert your install disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
*(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)*
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window. Where you see Capacity and Available. *Make sure there is always 10% to 15% free disk space*
Flash videos stop playing correctly, the video becomes extremely slow and jerky, beyond what's watchable. I tried watching flash using Firefox, Google Chrome, and Safari, and it was the same for all three.
Uninstall then reinstall a fresh copy of the Flash Player plugin. Yours may be outdated.
Uninstall Flash
Install Flash
For Safari...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem. Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
Since you are running Snow Leopard, make sure Safari is opening in 32-bit mode, not 64. Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode. Also, (in that same window) make sure Safari is NOT running in Rosetta.

Web pages now include a small icon or 'favicon' which is visible in the address bar and next to bookmarks. These icons take up disk space and slow Safari down. It is possible to erase the icons from your computer and start fresh. *To delete Safari's icon cache using the Finder, open your user folder, navigate to ~/Library/Safari/ and move this file "webpageIcons.db to the Trash.*

  • My wifi drops off after computer sleep

After computer sleep~ 1hr or more, can’t access internet, WiFi icon in menu bar says I’m connected.
Network diagnostics gives me error message: “Network Diagnostics wants to access key: My network name in your keychain, do you want to allow access? I hit “Always allow” , then I get message : “Network change detected- do you want to proceed”, I hit “yes” and WiFi is restored.
What I tried to fix it from calls to Apple support and what I read on line:
1 Start over from scratch- remove all internet PW’ds from keychain, remove network from Network preferences.
    2 NV RAM reset
    3 turn off Firewall off
    4 Set service order
    5 SMC reset
    6 Remove System Configuration folder
    7 Renew DHCP lease
    8 Remove Bluetooth Preferences file.

  • Problems streaming video after computer sleeps

I have brand new MacBook Pro, which came with a free Lion upgrade, so one of the first things that I did upon getting my new laptop was to go to the app store and download/install Lion.
Anyways, I've been having issues streaming videos online on sites like youtube, hulu, etc. When I first start up my computer I am able to stream without any issues, but after my computer has been put to sleep and reawakened, all video that I attempt to stream online becomes choppy. The audio works perfectly, but the video is jumpy and unwatchable. If I restart my computer everything works fine again, but obviously this is an annoying process to have to go though every single time I want to watch a show or something online.
I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing similar issues? My younger brother, who got the exact same computer as me is having no problems at all.
Additionally, when my login screen appears after a restart or whenever I turn my computer on my user icon appears all the way over to the left of my screen and is only partially visible. Not a huge inconvenience, but it's just annoying to already have weird little things going wrong with a brand new computer.
    Help please?

I too am having this same issue.  I have only started having it after installing Lion.  I am forced to restart my computer if I wish to watch a video.  I have no solutions!

  • Battery problem when computer sleeps

Hi, I have Lenovo S12 , for about six months.
I use the battery which came with the computer.
It worked well till this problem : when the computer goes to sleep, even if the battery is full, it hibernates after really short time.
When I turn it on, it says that Windows didn't shut down properly due to low battery, but when it starts, it shows that the battery is full, and it behaves normally, I really can use it for about 3 hours.
Please help, what can I do??

  • Charging Problem after Deep Sleep

    Hey
All works fine but, when i wake up my MacBook from the Deep Sleep Mode, it seems, that my MacBook doesn´t know, if the MacSafe is plugged in or not.
Normally, when you plug in the MacSafe, in the menu bar the batterie status goes to "charging". But after the Deep Sleep Mode, my MacBooks doesn´t know, that i turn off the MacSafe. All the time, it shows the status, "charged" in the menu bar.
So the Problem is, that my MacBook doesn´t show the right charging status in the menu bar. So i

    That´s very strange.

  • Mac Mini will not keep mirror displays on after computer sleeps or shuts down.

Hello.  I work in a school district that has a few Mac Mini computers set up with its own moniter and also plugged in HDMI to a projector.  Last year we had them set up with OSX 10.6 and decided to upgrade them to 10.8  After the upgrade, Display Mirroring will not stay on.  If the computer is reset or falls asleep it is set back to extended desktop.  How can I get it to stay without having them constantly turning it back on?  (The teachers are using network accounts.  I doubt it has anything to do with it because it worked fine last year on 10.6.  But I thought I would mention it.)

Does it only do it for network accounts?
Is there an admin account on the Mini to test with?

  • Lan connection / network adapter problem after computer reset to factory

My computer was a bit over-run with malware (from kids downloading games I suspect...), so rather than keep fighting to remove some of the nastier ones, I just reset the computer to factory start with the disks we made. Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. Since that time, I cannot connect to the internet. It does not have a wireless adapter.   The power supply and video card were upgraded a couple years ago; everything else is as it came from the factory. Since I cannot get online, I have not done any windows updates. When I go to Network and Sharing Center, it says "You are currently not connected to any networks" (duh) If I click on "change adapter settings" there is NOTHING in that window.   When I look at "Device Manager" there is no group for "Network Adapters" in the list. I know very little about this stuff, but it seems like the computer is not recognizing that there is even an ethernet cord plugged in.   There is of course, and when I plug that same cord into a different computer, it works. Looking under the hood, I see the network adapter is integrated....  So maybe that part is fried somehow, even though everything else seems to be working?  It just seems really really odd that it was working before the software reset and now it isn't. Any advice?

As an update:  I found the driver on this website. Downloaded it and then transferred to the subject computer.  I tried to run it and got an error. "Original Realtek Networking Controller Driver" is at the top. "Your system does not meet the minimum requirement for this update.  Update has been cancelled.  (9996)" Could this be because it doesn't have other updates installed?

  • Safari 2.0.4 problems after sleep

I've searched a bit for problems with Safari 2.0.4 after sleep and can't find much that relates to my specific problems so I'll ask for your help. On my Powerbook G4 15" when Safari is running and it goes into sleep mode I get the following problems:
    1. After heavy sleep, when I awaken the computer Safari says that the application has quit.
    2. After a short time away from the computer Safari is unresponsive with a spinning beachball and a lot of disk activity. After 3-5 minutes it seems to return to normal.
Is this a known or common problem? Are there any fixes? The issue has been going on for many months, but I thought I might see if there's a cure. Resetting Safari and clearing cache don't appear to help out.
    Thanks for your help.

No, everything else appears to work fine. When there is this beachball activity there's a lot of hard disk activity taking place. I have 1.5GB of RAM, but this happens when I have 2 applications open or 5. It just appears that when I leave the computer unattended for 5 minutes or so some sort off background activity is taking place.

  • Keyboard and trackpad unresponsive after computer is woken from sleep or battery runs out

I am having problems after my battery runs out completely or when I open my macbook  a day later with the battery charged. If my battery runs out, after I plug it in and turn it on, the first thing that appears is the login page and there is a dark grey background instead of my normal blurred background, and the user picture is shifted to the right. After I enter my password a small white bar at the bottom loads and my normal login page loads, but this time my keyboard and trackpad are unresponsive. I have to wait for the display to go to sleep, close my macbook and then open it for my keyboard and trackpad to work. Sometimes I have to repeat this process more than once. The same thing happens when I wake up my computer with full battery after a nights sleep, and instead of being able to wake it up just by opening the lid I have to turn it on with the power button. Please help I know this isn't normal behavior. I have already reset the SMC and PRAM with no success and this problem was there before and after I upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite.
    Thanks

if any one ever has this problem, i figured it out. you have to reset the PRAM AND NVRAM. to do so...
hold down the command+option+P+R keys before starting the computer and wait for 2 start up tones. done and done.

  • Unknown error -50 after computer wakes from sleep.

I've been having a problem for a couple of weeks now. After waking the computer from an extended sleep. I start having strange errors. For example.
*The desktop will not let me move items to the trash. It still makes the trash sound but the folder stays on the desktop. When I try to create a new folder on the desktop, I get "Unknown error occurred (-50)".
*iTunes is unable to save my library, and I get another "unknown error -50". My Mail program will not get mail off the server. I know there is mail because it's on my iPhone. I get no error message with mail. Address book has an error message that my address book file is corrupt, and cannot save. Safari will not shut down even with Force quit.
I have tried to repair my preferences and the disk utility finishes instantly after i start the repair, saying that it's done.
I try to shut down my computer and it hangs because of Safari. I do a hard boot and the computer gets to the apple screen and hangs. I do another hard boot, and the computer restarts, and everything works again.
Is something happening when the computer sleeps that is messing everything up?
I thought I might have a hardware problem so I ran the Hardware check, and it says everything is fine. Anyone else having this problem? I have already tried a clean install, and 2 archive and installs, the first with my preferences and the second without. But I still have the problem... what do I do?

Well, I've just gotten off the phone with Apple. After being transferred to a senior technical adviser, his assumption is that it is probably the logic board. We did run the apple hardware test, which it passed. But ironically, I had no mouse function the whole time because it was frozen up in the corner (thank goodness for the enter key).
After lots of silence on the line, he determined that since the computer wasn't even 30 days out of warranty, that he would classify it as Dead on Arrival (since it has had problems straight out of the box, has had repairs and is still having issues), and arranged for sales to contact me (on Monday of course) to replace it. I'm sure it will be another refurb, and I pray that this one treats me well. I'm really tired of loading & reloading all of my data. I have an external drive due to arrive Tuesday that I can create a back-up on of this machine, and transfer it all via Time Machine when the new one is in my hands. So let's hope this is last you hear from me! Thanks!

  • Problems after sleep mode with wifi connection

I got my first iMac the other week but i keep having problems after it has gone into Sleep Mode.
Once i log back in to use my iMac again i can't seem to go online  =and have lost connectivity with emails etc.  Its showing that i'm still connected to my wifi and the only way to fix it is to restart.
I have already connect chat support about this and the made me reset my PRAM and reset the systems management controller (SMC)
    Does anyone have any ideas??

Personally I don't let the computer sleep, I set the display to sleep. This has the same net effect and in the 8+ years I have been using OS X I have never had a problem. Set the Computer's sleep setting to Never and set the display sleep to the amount of time you had the computer sleep set at.
However if you want to try with computer sleep instead of display sleep check if the wake for network access box is checked. If it already is they your issue is likely somewhere else.
