Problems after installing updates
Hi,
Help, please! I installed Apple Security Update 2007-003 on March 19, along with the iTunes and Quicktime update recommended by Apple. Since then some of my system software is not working. My menu clock doesn't run and I can't burn CDs are two examples. I didn't run Disk Utility before the install, but I did after the install and repaired permissions and disk error. Still have problem. Is there a way to reinstall the updates?
Thanks

MWilcox6428:
Welcome to Apple Discussions.
You have already run Repair Disk and Repair Disk Permissions. Now download and install the 10.3.9 Combo Update, Repair Disk Permissions from the internal HDD, then run Software Update again.
If this does not work for you, you may have to consider backing up and doing an Archive and Install.
Please post back and let me know how it goes, or with further questions or comments.
Good luck.

802.1x Problem After Installing Update 10.4.10
After installing the 10.4.10 update (from 10.4.9), I have started having problems with authenticating using 802.1x over my wireless connection. I enter my login information when prompted, and after a few seconds (when it says "Authenticating..."), it comes back with an error:
WPA Authentication Failed.
Security Error: 0
If I try authenticating several more times, it will eventually work. It is not a signal strength issue, and it is not me mistyping my username and password.
The only error in the console.log that I see is:
/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Apple80211.framework/Resources/airport: Error: Could not start 802.1X
This only seems to affect my attempts to log in using 802.1x. I am able to associate with WPA and WPA2 networks using pre-shared keys without any issues.
My 802.1x settings are as follows:
Network Port: AirPort
Authentication: TTLS (all other un-checked)
- TTLS Inner Authentication: MSCHAPv2
- TTLS Outer Identity: (blank)
AirPort card information:
Wireless Card Type: AirPort Extreme (0x168C, 0x86)

MacBook Mac OS X (10.4.10)Found the problem... It turns out it is not related to the 10.4.10 patch, but it is still specific to MacBooks and the way they do EAP for 802.1x authentications.
The problem was with the default settings on the Cisco/Airespace wireless controllers, which we have recently migrated to. It has a default EAP timeout/retry of 2 seconds, so depending on how long it takes you to type in your login information and submit it, you might fall outside the 2-second window where the controller is accepting that login. The solution was to increase that window on the wireless controller itself.
My guess is that Windows automatically retries, which is why Windows users did not see this problem.

Has anybody had problems after installing updates recently?
Hello,
I installed some updates about an hour ago on my MacbookPro, and now it is unable to start up. I do remember that I got a message saying "was unable to install ... and ..." before I restarted, but honestly, I didn't pay that much attention to it because I didn't think I'd get such huge problems from installing an update, and I don't remember what exactly was getting installed, or what two things were listed in the error message.
I think my MacbookPro is in pretty bad shape, because before it can even display the login screen, my screen goes gray and there's a message saying "you need to restart your computer, press the power button down for a few seconds" in several languages. And when I do restart, it takes me back to the same screen. I'm guessing that one of the components that were supposed to be installed didn't get installed properly and that's what's causing this.
I'm wondering if this has happened to anybody else. The first thing that came to my mind was to pop the Leopard installation disk in and see if I can reinstall everything again, but I'm on vacation right and I don't have the disk on me. Are there any known workarounds for something like this?
To give some background info, I use Leopard and I actually reinstalled the operating system (while preserving the non-system files) exactly a week ago, so I am certain that there were no files corrupted, at least on my part.
Thanks,
YuriHi again Yuri,
Sorry that didn't help ferret out the issue. If a trip to the Apple store isn't too inconvenient, it might be worth it (and it's free!). I can give some more thoughts if you have the time and inclination to try to solve the problem yourself.
By the way, what do you mean when you say that your computer automatically reboots? It is making it through the booting process? Are you doing anything specific when it reboots? Will it do this even if you just leave it alone?
Here are some troubleshooting suggestions:
1. Kernel panics can be caused by both software and hardware problems, but the hardware ones are pretty easy to test. You could try unplugging everything you have attached to your computer (assuming you have an Apple keyboard and mouse, those can stay plugged in) and rebooting to see if the problem persists. If you have two RAM sticks in your machine, you could try swapping the bays they're in, and you could also try the Apple Hardware Test if you still have the original disk that came with your machine. (Let me know if any of this doesn't make sense.) My suspicion from your description of how it started is that this is a software problem, but you never know.
2. If none of that works, it probably is software-related. To try to figure out what might be causing the problem (I'm assuming here that your spontaneous reboots are happening after your system is fully booted), reboot your computer normally (to cause a KP so that we have an exact time frame), and then when it forces you to reboot, do so in Safe Mode. You can then access your log files (in the Console Program, under Applications > Utilities) and look for the section called "LOG FILES"—which you may have to click "Show Log List" to see—and select "PanicReporter." If you can paste that information in this thread before your computer crashes again, that would probably be very helpful in diagnosing the problematic software. (If it's quicker, you can e-mail a copy of that log file by selecting it in Console and going to File > Mail.) This file should tell us exactly what the computer was doing before the kernel panic, and if we know that, we might just know how to get around it.
If these solutions don't work, a lot of the troubleshooting procedures can be complicated if it's a software problem and if you're unfamiliar with the UNIX command-line environment. So if you're so inclined, it might be easier to just take the patient in! If you don't want to or can't, I'd be happy to help you further.
Good luck!

HT4623 problem after installing update software.
why when i start to install the update software ver. 7.0.5, at the end on my screen only appears itune icon?
If you have the iTunes icon and a cable on-screen then that indicates that the iPad has gone into recovery mode : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808 - you will need to connect the iPad to your computer's iTunes and you should then be able to reset it and restore/resync your content to it

Problems after installing 10.5.2 update
Any one else getting error messages via Disk Utility of various types after installing latest update. Going from a clean install with a clean bill of health, to bad directory messages after installing update 10.5.2.
Input/ output errors, etc
ACL errors- I've never seen this until installing 10.5.2.
I also get corrupted directory errors that disk utility is unable to repair disk.
imac G5 takes at about 5 Minutes to start up and for desktop to become active.
I wonder if these are common experiences with Non-intel Leopard 10.5.2 users, or are these issues common to everyone that installed the update?here was little space on my startupdrive so I suspect that this caused the problem.
That's a big time problem. You may have to connect another Mac to your laptop and boot your laptop into FireWire mode to clear out about 10 GB of space on it and then run the 10.5.2 Combo updater from the other Mac. That's one of the problems with having Software Update being automatic. I never use it.

A problem is after install update december 10, 2014
A problem is after install update december 10, 2014 UAC settings says unknown publisher , troubleshooting not working, when I want to change any setting it says unknown publisher , windows defender not starting etc
Hi
vijay ,
Have you tried the solution provided by
Winword Exonar ? Does it work? Any feedback would be appreciate?
If this is not the cause, then I would suggest you return to a previous point with system restore. or simply uninstall the updates december 10, 2014 , then check if issue persists, we should first find out whether one update included in is the culprit.
Regards.

A lot of problems after installing Windows XP using Boot Camp on a Mac Book
I have been having a lot of problems after installing Windows XP Home Edition (2002).
For one, after installing Windows using Boot Camp with Mac OS X 10.5.1, I opened Windows on my Mac Book, inserted the Mac OS X Disk 1 as in the instructions and got the message: +"This package requires a newer version of the Windows installer. Do you want to update the version of the Windows Installer on your system?"+ When I clicked Yes (I had NO idea what it meant at the time), I got the message: "The required resource 'UPDATE' is missing" and the Installer quit.
How do I fix this problem?
Another problem I have is that there is no sound on the Windows XP, yet it works perfectly on Mac OS X. Is there any way to fix this problem?
A third problem I have is that I can't wirelessly connect to the internet using Window XP, yet I can on Mac OS X. I have no idea on how to fix this, and it's really messing with me. D:<
D: There are way too many problems, and I have a feeling there will be a lot more later on. Help....
~Twilight---I'm moving this topic to the Boot Camp forums.

Printing problems after installing the Epson Printer Driver 2.16
Has anyone experienced any problems after installing the Epson Printer Driver 2.16 through Software Update? I am having problems printing. It denotes an error message, specifically the rastertoescpii.app isn't working?
Oops, wanted everyone to know that the driver that Software Update downloaded and installed was 2.18, not 2.16 (which was the last one that worked for me). I just got done downloading the 2.18 driver directly from the Apple support website and installing it. Guess what? My printer is now working and everything is fine. If you are having issues, I suggest this route. Guess I solved my own problem, but hope this helps someone else.

Macbook pro won't boot after installing update 10.9.3
macbook pro won't boot after installing update 10.9.3
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -
Problem after installing 10.4.8
Hello,
I installed the 10.4.8 update today. I have a brand new macbook. When the update finished downloading, my screen just turned blank, my computer didn't react at all. I could hear the fan and that was it.
So, I waited for some minutes, nothing happened. I decided to restart it by pressing the power button for a few seconds.
The computer is working perfectly now and the update was installed. But, how do I know if my computer or the HD were affected? I ran the HD test and it says that the HD seems OK.
Is that a problem with my computer or is it because of the new update? I read a posting that mentioned similar problems after installing the new update.
Thanks...How did you update? Mac OS X 10.4.8 Update (delta)?
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304200
After installing the delta version of this update on an Intel-based Mac, the computer will restart two times--the first restart after installing this update may take several minutes; please allow it to complete.

OL2010:Search Problems after install KB2956128
Hi,
We have Outlook 2010 with Exchange 2010. After installing the latest Patches for Outlook (KB2956128) we had problems with the search. We couldn't search (Advances search) in shared calendar.
Error: Outlook cannot perform your search. Outlook cannot display this view.
After unistalling this patch the search works fine. Has someone the same problem with this patch?
Thanks
florianSo glad I found this. A couple PC's in our environment that are setup to test the latest updates had OCS crash every 2 or 3 min after installing updates from the February patch release. Both PCs are running Office 2010 x32 with OCS 2007 R2.
Here is the crash message:
Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name:
communicator.exe
Application Version:
3.5.6907.268
Application Timestamp: 5165ca9aFault
Module Name: MSVCR90.dll
Fault Module Version: 9.0.30729.6161
Fault Module Timestamp: 4dace5b9
Exception Code:
c0000005Exception
Offset: 0003b4a8OS
Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.48Locale
ID:
1033
Additional information about the problem:LCID:
1033
Was able to at least control the crashes using this tip I found here:
OCS client crash fix
"Method one: Configure PIM to sync with None or Windows Address Book
Office Communicator does not crash if you set the PIM to sync with None or Windows Address Book. However, Communicator operates with limited Outlook Integration.
1. Start Office Communicator.
2. On the green button menu, click Options, and then click Personal.
3. In the Personal information manager list, click either None or Windows Address Book."
Unfortunately, my search function was still broken. Began to dig around on this and while I found no Office Communicator patches released and installed from the February patch Tuesday, I found it odd that KB2956128 was actually listed as
being installed twice on both affected machines.
After I removed both instances of KB2956128 and set the OCS Personal Information Manager back to "Microsoft Office Outlook (Contacts, ...." it has been running without any crash for 30 min now.
HOWEVER, I still don't have the search function in OCS after having removed KB2956128, but glad it is not crashing every 2 min. -

ITunes crashes on iPhone after installing update 3.01
After installing update 3.01, iTunes won't work properly. iTunes starts up, plays a number but crashes after a while. My guess is, that this happens while the iPhone performs other tasks simultaneously (like retrieving e-mail and such). Are there other people with the same experience?
Update: looks to be a memory-problem (?). When I start iTunes and choose to play the firts album/number directly (without using coverflow), it works fine. For a while at least, until my mail is checked again: iTunes crashes again.
