Problems after installing upgrade fom Snow Leopard to Marverick

Hello,
After installing Maverick is I unable to use Address Book, Calculator, Automator, Dictionary, Font Book, ICal and I have no Utilities, when I try it says not suitable for this version, all it keeps telling "You can’t use this version of the application" “Dictionary” with this version of OS X. what do I do next, do I try and re-install the spplications, yet my Adobe CS4 and QuarkXpress are OK.

Because something is wrong.
To fix, try the following in order, testing after each until one of these suggestions works:
(1) Restart Mac.
(2) Use Disk Utility to repair permissions.

I am using a MacBook Pro and was running Mac OS X Leopard, and QuickTime worked perfectly. After I upgraded to Snow Leopard I can´t get QuickTime to work. When I try to reinstall QuickTime for Snow Leopard it tells me it is already installed.
How will I get it to work again?

I hate to ask, but what does this mean? Are you double-clicking or "drop" opening a movie and no player is opening? Are you simply clicking on the application icon and no player is opening but the application name does display in the top-left area of you monitor? Do you get a modal message saying something is wrong or saying the application quit unexpectedly while opening? Please try to be more specific regarding what is actually taking place as this may provide additional clues as to whether the problem is in the application, the operating system, 32-bit/64-bit mode switching/access problems, missing playback components for 32-bit routines, component list ordering conflicts, etc.

OK I solved it.
I followed instructions from http://superuser.com/questions/214943/what-is-preventing-my-macbook-from-sleepin g/409481/
Go to Utilities in the Applications folder and open the "Terminal" app.
Type pmset -g and hit Enter
If "sleep" has 0 next to it and the words "imposed by" or "prevented by ; The number next to the imposed by is the process ID causing the problem. Copy that number.
Type ps -e | grep <process ID here> and hit Enter. This will list all running processes that have that ID (will also include the grep process)
For me it turned out to be Internet Sharing enabled that prevented my MBP from sleeping.

I was thinking of making a clone with Super Duper to an external hard disk.
I was also thinking of making another clone to this Strato 500GB online storage offer here:

That way I'd have two backups if one went wrong.
Is there anywhere I can get step my step instructions on how to go ahead with the upgrade and how to import the files I need afterwards without importing any previous nasties?

1) Various files on my desktop, which consist of Adobe files, Word, Text, PDF and JPEGS etc. (easy, I can do this)
2) Data for the following applications: (I don't know how to do this and NEED to keep the files)

Drag your home folder in /Users/ or elsewhere to another location, restart from the Mac OS X 10.6 DVD, use the Disk Utility in the Utilities menu to erase the drive, install the OS, and drag the items back from your old home folder as desired.

After iMac upgrade to Snow Leopard print quality with Epson R2400 is very bad. Anyone have a workaround?

Recently attended excellent workshop about the Fine Art of Printing with R Mac Holbert and John Paul Caponigro. They indicated printing using iMac computers was difficult. I upgraded to Snow Leopard and now print output quality is so poor that the results are totally usable.
A call to Epson support on December 9th was of no help.
Is there a workaround for this problem? Thanks so much.

calibrate your screen and use icc profile from printer / scanner manufacturer
mac os software tool to do tha is locate into , app folder -> utility folder -> Colorsync utility

Cd burning issue after installing and updating snow leopard

After installing and updating snow leapard to the latest version, the cd burner for i-tunes quit working. it says" burning disk initializing" then "burning disk finishing" comes up with the error "the attempt to burn a disk failed. the disc drive didn't respond properly and can't recover or retry. Any suggestions to fix this problem?

First try other disks, brand new, then try another brand, then consider backup user files and (clean and polish then) c booting off the 10.6.3 disk and simply reinstalling OS X then updating to 10.6.8 again.
Hopefully this should fix the issue in OS X software, you may have to reinstall certain third party software again that it's kext files got kicked out of OS X by the reinstall.
If you get hung booting at any time, simply hold the shift key down and then update your software then reboot normally

My Macbook needs to be very close to my router for it to connect to my network. Why is my mac suddenly struggling to pick it up after I upgrade to Snow Leopard?

This has happened since I upgraded to Snow Leopard. When I use Windows (via Boot camp) I can be anywhere in the room and be able to pick up and connect to my network via my router instantly. However, when using OS I literally have to be less then a meter away from the router.
This didn't happen when I was using Leopard, so why has it changed and how can I improve?

You need to boot using the 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD that you bought from the Apple Store.
If your machine had 10.5 when you got it then in order to upgrade to 10.6.8 you must have purchased 10.6. If you've lost that DVD you can buy it again from the Apple Store.

Leopard problems after install/upgrade

I just installed/upgraded (from a black separately bought) leopard on my mum's iMac G5. The installation showed now problems, and then the computer restarted, booted up and gave me the account/log in screen. But here's the problem. After login in on (tried with several different accounts, but same problem), the computer freezes and then gives me the "you must restart your computer, hold down the power button," etc.
From what I've found online this is most likely a kernel error, so I tried Single User Mode (Apple(Cmd)+S), with "fsck -f" giving me = "The volume iMac appears to be OK."
I then ran Safe-mode and looked at the konsoll-log, and found these to be the last lines before the break down:

I would recommend an [archive and install|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1710?viewlocale=en_US]. it will give you a fresh copy of leopard while preserving your data and user settings. this will get rid of the extension conflicts which are causing the kernel panics.

MPB mid-2010 very slow after Yosemite upgrade from Snow Leopard

Your Mac has been considerably altered from its factory configuration. Given certain modifications, some of which are described below, it is not reasonable to expect it to operate properly.

5. If you require a VPN I recommend OS X's native VPN, not Cisco's flawed implementation of it.
6. If you elect to use Adobe Flash Player you must keep it maintained. The version installed is outdated.
7. If you elect to use Google's products you must accept the detrimental effects they will have on a Mac's performance.
8. Adware is installed and will interfere with Internet browsing. For an explanation or how this may have occurred, how to avoid it in the future, and for Apple's recommended solution read How to install adware.

Idiots guide to clean install upgrade to Snow leopard to get lion

Hi- am a total novice and have had my Imac 9,1 (2.93 Ghz Duo core processor with 4GB RAM) for a couple of years and now I am on MAC OS 10.5.8 Leopard and really want to get ready for Lion when it comes. My Imac has an external hard drive (250GB) and a time machine, airport for itunes for music streaming, some Microsoft office suite. I bought the Snow Leopard 10.6.3 yesterday and want to clean install without losing all my docs and settings for all iphones/ipods etc. Anyone got an idea where I can find an idiot proof guide to doing this? I guess I will need to do this all again once Lion is available

first of all, make a backup of your boot drive by cloning it to an external HD using e.g. Carbon Copy Cloner.
then simply pop in the install DVD and click on continue. the SL installer will upgrade OS X and leave everything untouched (unless it's incompatible) - it's that simple.
in case something does go wrong, you have your clone.

Cannot find imovie after os upgraded to snow leopard

My friend upgraded my desktop to snow leopard yesterday and I do not have imovie on my computer. Anyone know how to get it?

if it was Leopard disk that came with a new Mac, it may have iMovie on there.
You can insert the disk. DO NOT INSTALL. Rather than install, like for a utilities drop-down menu, and look for something like additional applications.

Can I install/upgrade to snow leopard on my older system?

I need to install Filemker for work, but it tells me I need at least Mac OS 10.6.0 (snow leopard), and I have 10.5.8 (leopard). Can I buy and install the snow leopard system? My MacBook is from 2008.

Yes. All Intel Macs which have at least 1GB of RAM and shipped with Mac OS X 10.5.8 or earlier can run Snow Leopard.

Problem after installing upgrade to Fix Pack 2

Hi,
I have a formula which is performing differently after installing Fix Pack 2. The formula is being used within the spreadsheet component and I've selected the ignore blank cells in values on the behavior tab.
The formula works correctly with Fix Pack 1, but not with Fix Pack 2.
In Fix Pack 1, the spreadsheet component in design mode correctly displays one row of data (headers).
In Fix Pack 2, the spreadsheet component in design mode incorrectly displays multiple rows (this should still only show the header row).
My formula is:
IF(ISERROR(FIND($A$2,D23,1)),D23,REPLACE(D23,FIND($A$2,D23,1),1," "))
Basically what this formula does is replace a CR/LF in a field with a space.
We backed out Fix Pack 2, and the formula works correctly.
Anyone have any ideas on why Fix Pack 2 is causing this formula to behave differently?

Could you install FP3 for Xcelsius and see if this works fine?
Also try to create a sample model in FP2 with the similar formula and check if it works.Let me know what happens if you install FP3.

Cursor scrolling stopped working after installing Firefox 4Mac Snow Leopard

Mac OS 10.6, just installed firefox 4 and the scrolling feature within the page is not working inspite of it be set to do that under preference- advance. suggestions?

I hate to ask, but what does this mean? Are you double-clicking or "drop" opening a movie and no player is opening? Are you simply clicking on the application icon and no player is opening but the application name does display in the top-left area of you monitor? Do you get a modal message saying something is wrong or saying the application quit unexpectedly while opening? Please try to be more specific regarding what is actually taking place as this may provide additional clues as to whether the problem is in the application, the operating system, 32-bit/64-bit mode switching/access problems, missing playback components for 32-bit routines, component list ordering conflicts, etc.
