Problems after Macbook Pro 2.0 update

After applying the Macbook Pro 2.0 update to my Mid 2012 15 MBP, I am having all kinds of problems.  Safari becomes unresponsive and I have to force it closed. iTunes would not connect and quit unexpectedly, as did Mail.  I had a fresh SuperDuper backup from yesterday that I could boot from and am currently running from that backup.  I tried to use TM to restore before I applied the update without any success.  Anyone else having these issues?

  • Lotta Issues after Macbook Pro 2.0 update

After applying Macbook Air and Macbook Pro 2.0 update, and its supplymental update, My Retina MBP (
    SMC Version (system):
    2.3f32 Boot ROM Version:
    MBP101.00EE.B02)
    has following problems:
unable to set hibernatemode to 0: '# sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0' and 'sudo rm /var/vm/sleepimage' both returns no error. But after closing the lid  and open it, the sleepimage comes back. And the "sleep by close the lid" is slow, takes about 40sec.
slow wakeup: open the lid, the login window appears, but nothing is interactive, after about a minute, i can type the password and login.
other 1: after the slow sleep and slow wake up, I lost lot of Icons from the menubar, application menus, and Apple apps' (finder, safari, mail...) buttons.
other 2: System sound(notification, empty trash, trash file...) becomes white noise
other 3: after the wakeup, entire desktop becoms random noise, some Dock icons and some imagess in safari become noise.
randomly some apps crash and fail to launch again. Including apps from both Apple and 3rd party.
3,4,5,6 seems like some memory disorder?
and, how can I or Apple fix this soon?

Bring the computer to an Apple store, or AASP, or inspection.

  • No DVDs after MacBook Pro firmware EFI update?

I am no longer able to play video DVDs after updating to the recent MacBook Pro EFI Firmware update 1.2. The odd thing is that DVD Player says "Supported disk not available", the disks do not show up in the Finder, but Disk Utility shows the disks. This also happens to the one Windows game DVD I have on hand. My Civ IV DVD shows up in the Finder as per normal.
Does anyone know what the heck is going on? Or, alternatively, does anyone know how I can actually get ahold of Apple support? They have the single most unfriendly support system ever; I can't even find a support request form.

Just got off the phone with Apple support.
They will not help me unless I buy a $300 AppleCare plan or pay $50 for a one-time incident.
I do not understand how they can charge for a software issue that they caused. Then the support personnel has the gall to tell me that the only way that Apple will hear about this problem is if I go through official support channels (ie set up an incident account with him). I am a student. I do not have $50 lying around unless I fast for a week.
Anyone with an AppleCare plan active who can report this problem? Alternatively, is there any possible way to get this reported to Apple, since as far as I'm concerned it's a serious issue with their firmware update that needs to get fixed stat, without paying for the privilege?
What a screwed up system. Apple effectively tells me that I need to install an update that breaks functionality on my computer and then refuses to even hear about it. I have received far better support (and via email, too) from Microsoft without them so much as bringing up the matter of payment.
Sometimes I wonder why I'm loyal to Apple at all. I love their products, but times like this make me hate the company with a passion.

  • MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.5.1

Just seen this as available from the software update process on my MBP.
has anyone hand any problems with MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.5.1 updates?
    thanks!

I believe it's been traced to the video card not properly initializing after sleep. It normally happens to me when I have USB peripherals attached (Such as my iPhone for charging).
After sleep the screen simply won't turn on. You can hear the volume adjusting, even music or something playing on the computer (As if it's running normally) but the screen just stays black. Sometimes it will flash on and then turn off.
The only solution I've found is to hard reboot the computer.

Select About This Mac from the Apple menu. If you have less than 4 GB of memory, and your model has upgradable memory, install as much as it can take, or at least that much. Any reputable RAM vendor will have a web form in which you can select the Mac model and be directed to compatible parts.
Memory in the MacBook Air is not upgradable. If that's what you have, you should restore the previous system from a backup, or replace the machine. Ask if you need guidance.
The Etrecheck report clearly shows that SylvieRose has a Macbook Pro, not a Macbook Air and that there are only 2 GB  RAM installed.  The Etrecheck report can be very informative if one takes the time to examine it.

Cs5 Brush cursor problem, on MacBook pro, tried the latest update, and the genious dude had no idea of what to do! Apple any fix?

Additional Info - after working on this problem for 4 hours, I shut my laptop in frustration and took a break.  1 hour later I opened my mac and the cursor had magically returned.  No restart, no power on/off - nothing.  Frustration.  If anyone else has had this happen and has actually fixed the problem let me know. I'm sure it will reoccur.

  • Slow Booting time after installing MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 2.0 on 13 Inches Mac 2010 model

I'm experiencing a slow boot time after my computer installed a MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 2.0 itself on 13 Inches 2010 model, how to downgrade or fix it?
My computer is starting 2 times slower then it should be, why Apple done this to me?
Please help who really know somthing about Macs.

I have the same problem, especially when I open my laptop from sleep.  It takes at least 2 minutes for the computer Internet connection to work.
Never had that problem prior to the last firmware update 2.7.
Is there a way to revert back to 2.6?

I stumbled upon the solution. In addition to downloading Creative Cloud, I needed to go back to the website and  download trials for the programs I want to use--Photoshop and Lightroom. Once I did that, I was in business. Would save trouble if that was made clear on the download site.

  • ICal on my MacBook Pro has been "updating" for days...??

I have an iMac, MacBook Pro, iPad and iPhone.  I have been using iCloud since it came out (running Lion).  iCal on my MacBook Pro has been "updating" for several days.  Also - when I add an event on the MacBook, it does not show up on any of my other devices (they are all set up with the same iCloud calendars).  When I add events from my other devices, they DO show up in iCal on my Macbook Pro.
I am at a loss -- any help would be VERY much appreciated!
    Thanks
    Kim

    Hello
Chance upon your post and yes, immediately after upgarding to Mountain Lion, my "new" Calendar (Desktop, formely known as 'iCal') keeps having the pop up window saying "Updating Calendar..." (I set my Calendar to auto-launch after Startup)
After restarting it will still be the same, but if I quit and launch again, everything will be fine.  Will try the method you posted (the thread) tonight.  Although I deleted the iCal preferences, thinking/hoping it will help
However, I don't seem to have a problem with sycning of al events, my sync with iCloud and all my macs and iOS devices seem OK.
If events are not syncing into some of your iOS devices, why don't you try deleting the entire iCloud account on it and re-set a new one?  I've done that before when events or other data don't properly sync
    Cheers

  • MacBook Pro Retina SMC Update 1.1 Won't Install

Hi Everybody. I am having a really annoying problem with my rMBP. I have the update labaled: "MacBook Pro Retina SMC Update 1.1" Available in my Mac AppStore app. After I click update, I get a prompt letting me know that the laptop needs to be plugged in, I hit ok. It downloads (very small file) and asks me to Restart or hit "Not Now". I click restart, the system reboots into a updating page where a status bar quickly completes. The laptop restarts again back to OSX. I open up the appstore and goto the updates page and what do I see? 1 available update: MacBook Pro Retina SMC Update 1.1, like I never did anything to begin with.
    My system info is:
    Model Name:          MacBook Pro
      Model Identifier:          MacBookPro10,1
      Processor Name:          Intel Core i7
      Processor Speed:          2.6 GHz
      Number of Processors:          1
      Total Number of Cores:          4
L2 Cache (per Core):          256 KB
      L3 Cache:          6 MB
      Memory:          8 GB
      Boot ROM Version:          MBP101.00EE.B02
      SMC Version (system):          2.3f32
      Serial Number (system):          xxx
      Hardware UUID: xxx
Please help this is really annoying.

I had the same problem. Tried all the proposed fixes. Nothing worked. This solved my problem:
    1. Install a fresh copy of mountain lion on an extern disk
    2. Startup from that disk
    3. Update to 10.8.3.
    4. Restart
    5. Open app store, go to updates. You should see the SMC 1.1. update.
    6. Click update
    7. Restart
Once the update installed (fan will go quickly to max speed during startup) switch back to your internal disk and start up. Now the SMC 1.1. update shouldn't show up in the app store/upadtes.

  • MacBook Pro SMC Firmware Update 1.3 update freezes mouse pointer

After installing the update released today 5/28 (MacBook Pro SMC Firmware Update 1.3) my mouse pointer stalls, freezes on occasion. Very annoying. Anyone seeing the same. Fixes ... ?

After applying the SMC Firmware update a few days ago, my keyboard and trackpad were acting erratic (freezing, hanging). It was immediately after the update and I had not had any problems with it before.
I have also had random crashes, inability to use the keyboard/trackpad ever since.
Today my keyboard and trackpad are completely unusable, external mouse works fine.
I will take it to an Apple store tomorrow, hopefully my firmware can be reverted.
Sounds like a lot of other people are having problems with this update. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9549034&tstart=0#9549034

    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mavericks if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
Upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion or Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8, Lion, or Mountain Lion installed. Purchase and download Mavericks (Free) from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
         OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
This, Adobe Flash Player 12.0.0.70, is the current version of Flash. It should work with Snow Leopard or later.

  • MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 2.0 will not install.

    Hi
The latest MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 2.0 will not install.
It runs and I restart my Mac but when I search for more updates it appears as a required update again.
Anyone know why this may be?

I had the same problem today. I called Apple support who transferred me to second level support and no resolution. I decided to try a combination of the items I have seen below.
I restarted my computer. I went to apple support download and downloaded the software EFI firmware update 2.0 by typing in search window. I made sure the power cord was pulled into the wall and the laptop had a FULL charge. I installed the update and the computer restarted.
I went to check the software update window after the update and restart completed and SUCCESSFUL.
I do not know why the Genius Bar or the second level support could not resolve my issues but, by me reading information here I hope at least this issue is resolved.
    Thanks ALL.......... Happy Mac ing

  • MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.5.1 messed up my laptop

Software update just told me to install MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.5.1 a few minutes ago, and I followed the directions, having no idea what it was supposed to be doing to my computer. I hit "Shut Down", then held down the power button until I heard the beep. After the beep, the screen stayed black and the LED light just stayed constant. Then I turned the computer off using the start button again, and tried to turn it on. The hard drive or CD drive started to click rhythmically and the computer did nothing. The screen stayed black.
I then tried to restore the previous firmware, but that doesn't work. It said to hold the button until the lights flash fast, then slow, then to insert the restoration CD, which I did. It buzzed like it was going to start up, then did nothing and I got no progress screen. It still just sits there black with that power light on. Anyone got any ideas other that going to a Genius and paying hundreds of dollars?

I followed the EFI instructions exactly as it stated and had a major problem.
Basically my problem was that the EFI did not completely successfully. It left the system in a half updated state. Unfortunately, they had to replace my entire system board. I have Apple Care so it was replaced at no charge. I originally called Apple Support and they had me try the usual things like restoration cd, reset PRAM, reset NVRAM, etc. Nothing worked. I brought it down to my local Apple store but they more or less do the same thing. They had to send it out to be fixed. Sorry, but it sounds like you're in the same boat.
