Problems after playing COD4

I have had problems with my imac freezing up after exiting COD4 (Mac version not Windows in Boot Camp) in Multiplayer mode (no problems in single player mode), not all the time but sometimes. Also starting up the next day it has sometimes not mounted my hard drive. The old flashing question mark problem, it has restarted eventually after the usual holding down keys etc: sometimes I have had to try to get it started from the instalation disk but even then disk utility only showed up the DVD Drive and not my hard drive.
Anyway to cut a long story short the last time the hard drive wouldn't mount (I tried all one weekend)I took it along to an Apple Service Centre thinking the Hard Drive had gone. Low and behold as you would expect they call me up a couple of days later to tell me it started up fine! They are going to keep it over the weekend to see if it restarts again okay. I know if I get it home and play COD4 I'm going to get the same issues. I just wanted to know if anyone else had had this problem and if so any conclusions had been reached before the Apple technician gets back to me(apart from don't play a hungry game like COD4 in multiplayer on a Mac)

Just to update my own poser, the tech crew started up my HD fine last Friday, then said they would leave it over the weekend and restart on Monday to re-check. Anyway when they did it crashed! which I'm pleased about I would have hated to get it home get the same problem and have to take it back again. They are replacing the HD, good job its still under warranty!!

I changed my email address a few years ago. I did not have any problems after this change until I got a new computer. Now I cannot play items that were purchased under the previous email. I entered the password that I used and it doesn't recognize it. I tried "forgot your password" in every combination possible. I never received any emails at the old email address. Now the old email address no longer even exists. How can I access these hundreds of items?

The old email address may well still be valid as your iTunes AppleID, however if you have no other email associated with that ID you clearly won't get any automated emails to it.
I still use an old defunct email for my iTunes AppleID.
    Contact support here:

You may want to try to manage the old ID here:

Use the original email address and password.

I've done every trick in the book. This problem has ONLY occured ever since I enabled the 64 bit kernel extensions on my 09 iMac (the ones that didn't ship with them enabled...). Funny thing is, the ONLY happens when I'm playing COD4. Disabling the 64 bit extensions is out of the question. I just game when I'm taking a break from Logic. These panics have been happening for the last 8 months. It's strange, I don't see anything wrong while playing COD. Temps are fine, RAM is fine (1.5-2GB free), HD is fine, cleared my cache about 3 days ago, and I run the maintenance scripts accordingly. HELP! Thanks in advanced.

    Ok so update..
I checked my hard drive which failed verification (I check it on a monthly basis). So I went ahead and repaired it, no issues. So then I attempted COD, kp around the same time as usual (about 5-10 min in). So I then Safe booted. I played COD for 2 hours no problems after restarting, I go to play COD again about 10 mins ago and I get another glorious KP.....

I checked and updated Soundflower, no change. I'm thinking it's probably one of my USB devices gone bad or something. So let me make a huge list of my USB connections and how they are connected.
To the BACK of the computer:
    iPod cord
Akai Professional MPD18 (off when not in use)
Grace Audio Turntable (off when not in use)
    Beklin 7 USB slot hub
Dane Elec 2 TB External HD (cycles on and off so the drive isn't constantly spinning)
1 cheap *** Frys headphone spliter
    1 pair of Sennheiser headphones
    1 pair of M-Audio AV 40s
    To the HUB:
M-Audio Keystation 61es (usb extended cord from the keystations power cord to the hub; off when not in use)
    USB powered phone charger
    iLock
Apple Keyboard w/Mighty Mouse coneccted to it
All of these USB connections WERE present before I started booting into 64bit and getting kernel panics. Never had any issues with these items in 32bit, but the 64bit speed boost helps a lot.
    Yes I've re-installed COD 4 COMPLETLEY.....5 times now....
    Yes I've deleted my cache
Yes I've ran the maintenance scripts
    Yes I've safe booted
    Yes I've repaired the disk
Yes I've reparied the permissions on the disk
All I want to do is play COD for 2 hours while I'm taking a break :/ If worse comes to worse, I'll make time to reinstall the OS....but I really rather not. It's a huge hassle, even with a Time Machiene backup.

  • Monitor won't enter power save after playing You Tube videos...

    Hi
An issue has  developed on my system in the last couple of months for which, after having done  a lot of research and testing, a solution has not been found. After playing  a video in You Tube, my monitor won't go into power save mode after the  prescribed time. It tries to go off for a second and the screen goes blank but  then comes straight on again. This happens after playing the You Tube videos in  Firefox, Google Chrome and Internet Explorer. I am running Windows XP  Professional and I have the latest version of Adobe Flashplayer installed,  the latest graphics card drivers, the latest version of direct x 9.0c.
To clear this error, I have to go into my XP  power schemes settings and change it to another power scheme and then change it  back to my default power scheme. However, as soon as I play another you tube  video the same problem re-occurs.
I have tried turning off hardware acceleration but this makes no difference. My graphics card is a Gigabyte gv-nx86t512h: http://uk.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=2604#ov
This never used to happen  until recently. It seems that there is something with the Flashplayer that is  not compatible with Firefox, Chrome, Internet Explorer etc.
Any ideas as to what may be  causing this and what can be done to overcome it would be greatly appreciated as  it is a real nuisance.
    Many  thanks.
    D

    thanks for your suggestions.
i found the solution/workaround from somone else on the adobe forums:
Go to control  panel, display, screen saver, choose a random screen saver, set a long time  (i.e. 60 min, but always longer than your monitor shut off time), then select no  screen saver, and save! Simple as that…

You have fragments (leftovers) beyond the end of the Timeline content that you intended.
I am going from an Elements Windows workspace, so please translate into Mac accordingly.
Expand your Timeline content to the maximum with the Zoom Out Zoom In slider above the Timeline.
Press the End key of the computer keyboard. That should take the Timeline Indicator to the fragments which must be deleted.
Explore all the tracks in that area.
Repeat the End key press until the Timeline Indicator stops at the end of the intended Timeline and not some 3 hours afterward.
What you find at "end of track" could be fragments or files that you moved out of the way of the active project and forgot were there.
The fragments typically present as thin vertical black lines scattered about the tracks.
Please let us know the outcome.
    Thank you.

My iPod shuffle periodically skips across multiple songs...playing a song or two in full and then jumping forward or back multiple songs after playing only moments of a song. Please tell me what I can do to fix this situation. Thank you very much.

This is in regards to a 4th gen 40gb clickwheel ipod.
Hi, i've also been having a very similar problem with my ipod as well. I find that regardless of which windows-based pc i use (either my xp laptop @ home, or my win2000 desktop @ work) windows and itunes refuses to recognise my ipod. In windows explorer it will show it as a removable drive, but if i click on it, windows freezes. If I try to disconnect it, I cant because windows keeps reporting that 'the device is being used, try disconnecting later' and so then i shut down my laptop to disconnect it safely.
Lately, like you, i've also noticed that clicking sound it makes. It happens when i connect my ipod to my computer - like the drive inside it is constantly restarting or something, and i get it when i'm playing / charging it in my dock. I've also noticed that when it's playing whilst charging, it just freezes on a song, then skips a couple of songs.
I've just discovered the disgnostic tools on my ipod, so i think i'll run a couple of tests (ie HDD scan) and depending on the outcome, i'll go visit the apple store.

  • [svn:fx-trunk] 10898: Fix for a bug: After playing a hide effect, a window wouldn't be visible again.

    Revision: 10898
    Author:   [email protected]

    Log Message:
Fix for a bug: After playing a hide effect, a window wouldn't be visible again.
The issue here is that all effects that occur because of HIDE end up calling setVisible() (see EffectManager.effectEndHandler).  Window/WindowedApplication was basically left with two concepts of setVisible...the displayObject one and the native application one, and they were out of synch.  So setting visible=true on the window wasn?\226?\128?\153t calling setVisible(true) which controls the display object visibility.  Now instead of doing our work in the visible setter, we override setVisible() and do it in there.

I run Suse 9.1 Linux, and Suse has a package called lmsensors which by default on my machine gives readings like this:
    Code: [Select]
    temp1:       +27°C  (high =    +0°C, hyst =   +22°C)   sensor = thermistor
    temp2:     +41.0°C  (high =   +80°C, hyst =   +75°C)   sensor = PII/Celeron diode
Now that 41C is pretty high for an idle AMD643000+ running at 1000Mhz, 1.08V. Too high, I would say. temp 1 in this case is the SYS temp, temp2 is the CPU temp.
Now, using lmsensors I can duplicate your little trick and tell it that temp 2 is in fact a 3904 transistor. Having done this can I get readings like this:
    Code: [Select]
    temp1:       +27°C  (high =    +0°C, hyst =   +22°C)   sensor = thermistor
    temp2:     +16.0°C  (high =   +80°C, hyst =   +75°C)   sensor = 3904 transistor
Problem is, I'm not sure that the sensor is actually a 3904 transistor! The number's lower, but I was pretty sure that the sensor in the AMD64 is in fact a diode. Also, surely the CPU temp can't actually be that much lower than the SYS temp.
So, I think your fix succeeds in giving lower temps and that's great in that it will tell your system software that the CPU is not overheating, but I don't think it's the solution to high temp reporting. Anyway, as you say, its a solution for people who can't run with system shutdowns due to bogus high temps.
I've been looking at these temp issues with the MSI K8T, and I was thinking the problem was simply a miscalibration. The Winbond sensor chip on my board (maybe the K8N is the same, maybe not) has a sensor temp offset that gets added to the temp coming from the sensor. On the K8T this number is +54C.   Funny number I know, but I've "fixed" the problem while I wait for a real bios fix on the K8T by simply reducing this offset to give me a CPU temp that matches SYS temp when idle. This enables cool'n'quiet fan control to work properly on my system, which is my main practical concern.

  • HT1600 After playing movie on netflix or purchased through itunes for a while, sound is garbled. people sound like robots. Stops if i retart/restore but, does it again. Software updated, wires all in.

After playing show purchased through itunes or playing netflix for a approximately 1 hour the sound is garbled. The people speaking soung like robots. I restart/restore and it happens again. Software updated and all connections are fine. What is the problem?? I plan on taking it back...

Doesn't sound right - if you've unpowered it to restore, and also restored I'd suspect a hardware issue if this gradually develops, perhaps heat related issues.
If under warranty get it looked at/replaced.

  • Freezes after playing video playlist

My 60G freezes after playing my video playlist. I have to wait until the battery runs down then plug it in to reboot it for it to work again. I took it back to Best Buy where I purchased it, and they installed the latest update. They claimed this would fix the problem. Wrong! Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

There is no screen event triggered when the video finishes playing that you can use to jump to the next slide or unhide a button to enable the user to navigate forward at a time of their own choosing.
If you know the duration of the video, you can place a navigation button on the timeline at that point so that it appears just after the video finishes playing.  However, you may find that on different PCs with different system specs the video may take slightly more or less time to play.

  • IPod requires hard reset after playing podcast with chapters

I've noticed that I need to do a hard reset (hold down menu and select buttons for a few seconds) after my iPod goes idle after playing a podcast with chapters (the Ricky Gervais show).
    Anyone else have this problem?

Can reproduce the problem on a 20GB 4G and 6GB mini
with another podcast series with chapters
(fortunately not many I listen to have caught up with
    chaptering).
The odd behaviour I've noticed is that the Ricky
Gervais podcast, for example, only has to be present
on the iPod and never listened to for the iPod/s to
lock up when they go to sleep. A hard reset then
required to bring them back to life until the podcast
has been listened to and the iPod/s then resync'ed
with the mothership to then remove it (and restore
some sanity until the next one).
I did conduct a hard restart of my 10GB iPod with no success. The only workaround solution I've discovered is to use the "Convert Selection to AAC" under the Advance menu in iTunes while selecting the podcast. It converts the podcast to a new AAC file without chapters, and it plays fine on my second gen iPod. But now my library has 2 copies of each podcast, one for iTunes, one for iPod. Anyone else have any luck with the 10GB iPod? I guess it doesn't like the new podcasts with chapters.

After playing the song I selected in iTunes 11 it jumps to the another album rather than playing the next song on the original album I selected.  ***?  How do I fix this?!?!?

I found that clearing the "Up Next" list fixes the problem.  But I have to clear that list everytime I just want to hear just that one album.  Each time I select on song on the album, the "Up Next" list builds it's own list rather than just play through the album.  I think this has something to do with the issue.  How can I fix this?!?!
