Problems after updating to iTunes 5

I've updated to version 5 but now the Purchased music playlist has disappeared from the iPod, and so have all the purchased tracks.
No errors (and the Purchased music still exists and plays in iTunes), just doesn't function on the iPod anymore. Any thoughts on how to fix it?

I thought I was the only one. Good to know ITunes 5 is messed up. My music hasn't been lost, but it just isn't being recognized by ITunes 5. I even did their "show all hidden folders" under their WINDOWS XP fixes (Document & Folder Options under C: drive). I HOPE THEY RELEASE A FIX TO THIS VERY SOON!

  • Problem after updating to iTunes 10.5 on Windows Vista.. I can no longer access the iTunes store..

    Hi
After updating to iTunes 10.5 on Windows Vista I have found that I can no longer access the iTunes store... I am left with a blank iTunes screen with the loading bar stuck at halfway..
All other features seem to work... only opening  the iTunes store is failing..
I have ran the diagnostics feature and this says everything is ok, so I'm a bit stuck
    Please help

Purple-Gecko...all that I can say is, "Boom!!!"  You are THE man/woman, whichever the case may be.
The "netsh winsock reset" command worked like a charm for my machine (running Windows XP SP3).  I have had two weeks of frustration with this issue and finally found your post which got me back online with the iTunes store.  My problem accessing the iTunes store began once I downloaded and installed iTunes 10.5 in preparation to upgrade to OS5.  Once 10.5 was installed, I could open iTunes and access everything except the store (which prevented any of my devices from being able to sync). I followed all of the suggestions that I could find in Apple Support and the suggestions that I was emailed from Apple's support techs.  I unistalled all Apple software and reinstalled iTunes multiple times, and still could not access the store.
Your suggestion is the only "cure" that I have found.
I thank you, my iPod thanks you, and my iPhone 4 thanks you for taking the time to post this fix.

  • My thorough list of problems after updating to iTunes 7

I've been reading the topics around. Some of these problems below seem to be sort of common, with slight differences in my case. Some others I couldn't figure out whether anyone else has experienced them.
First of all, unlike in a lot of the topics that I've read around, I didn't have any problems installing iTunes 7 (although the problems started right after I turned it on for the first time...). Nor did I have any problems updating the software on my iPod to version 1.2, which I have to say, unlike iTunes 7, seems to be very nice, particularly on the new detail of searching the long lists of songs/artists/albums alphabetically.
    1) The least serious of the bugs on iTunes already used to happen to me with the previous version 6. Occasionaly, when I plug in my iPod to the computer, iTunes doesn't recognize it properly. Instead of the 5th generation video, it shows up on iTunes as a previous generation iPod without video. What happens then is that iTunes screws up the whole artwork settings on the iPod. It starts off by switching off the artwork visualization option on my iPod, the next time it correctly recognizes it as the 60 G video model. And when I turn the option back on, as it should always have stayed, iTunes proceeds to reorganize the whole artwork list on the iPod, by first deleting it completely and then optimizing it. When one has the iPod with more than 20 G full of albums (let alone when it's 60 G are completely full...), this is something that already takes a lot of time and becomes irritating, taking into account that it happens sort of randomly: you plug in the iPod and pray that iTunes recognizes it properly. It used to happen to me quite frequently with iTunes 6, and I thought it would be fixed with the new version 7. But it hasn't: yesterday it already happened to me again, once, after I plugged/unplugged it some 10-15 times. The frequency of the ocurrence of the problem, at least, seems to have decreased, when compared to iTunes 6.
    2) As opposed to the previous problem, the most serious happend to me right after I started iTunes 7 for the very first time, with the iPod plugged in. Like it has already been reported by several particpants in this forum, it started doing the infamous gapless analysis on my BIG iPod song library and it froze after a while, finally crashing with the usual message "Do you want to send a report to Microsoft". Up to this point, this seems to be common with a lot of users of the new version 7. With me, it went farther. I was the one that froze right afterwards: when I started iTunes again, I realized that in the process of freezing/crashing/restarting iTunes had switched off my manual update option on the iPod, instantaneously erasing about 5000 songs that I had loaded in it. The problem is that I didn't have enough space on my computer hard-disk to hold those 25 G of music, so I only kept them on the iPod whereas my iTunes music library was essentially empty. And there I am now, importing every single one of my CDs back into iTunes and to the iPod, something that will take me another couple of weeks at least.
    3) Taking into account the previous point, I am essentially using iTunes 7 now from the start with an empty library, importing every CD back from scratch, as if this was my first encounter with iTunes and iPod. I cannot see then what it could have done to an already existing music library on the computer (other than completely erasing the one that I had on the iPod), like some damage that also I read happened to some people. With the CDs being imported all over again with iTunes 7, it no longer does any gapless analysis of anything, because there are no songs imported with previous iTunes versions to be analyzed. The sound is also fine: I don't get any of the static or garbled noises that I read were also troubling a lot of people.
    4) As for the crossfading/gapless discussion, after experimenting with those (now infamous) two options for a while, I got to the conclusion that there's really no point at all in having them, even when they work well... let alone the serious problems that their introduction on iTunes 7 has been causing. By turning the crossfading option on, I can see that iTunes merges the end of one song with the beginning of the following one, with time lengths depending on the slider position chosen by the user in the corresponding option's window. But it's something that I personally dislike a lot, to have both songs sort of being played on top of each other, during their transition. So I switched it off. On the other hand, the gapless playback seemed to be a nice welcome. It is true that, until this version 7 came up, on certain albums, like in the classical "Sgt. Pepper's Lonley Hearts Club Band" (that supposedly first started that concept) or a lot of the Pink Floyd ones, where the songs are almost continuous without any pauses between them, both iTunes and the iPod used to force an inconvenient pause between the songs. I then imagined that this gapless option would at least improve on that. But what I've figured out by now, after using iTunes 7 for three days, is that if the original albums don't have any pauses between songs, iTunes 7 now imports those albums exactly as they are, without any pauses either, even if both the crossfading and the gapless option are switched off. In other words, after importing my "Sgt. Pepper's" and "Dark Side of the Moon" CDs again with iTunes 7, I no longer get forced pauses between the songs like I used to get before, either on iTunes, or in the iPod. This, even though I make sure that those two options are switched off. The gapless playback seems then to be sort of automatic now on iTunes 7, as it should, if that's the way the original imported album is also recorded. And this troublesome gapless option seems then to be a completely useless thing, unless the idea is to fix songs imported with previous iTunes versions, or to force gapless playing on albums that originally have pauses.
    5) As many people have noted already, the "Drag and drop" album artwork window only works for single songs. If one wants to cut and paste the artwork into that window for several selected songs or a whole album at once, like it could be done on iTunes 6, that's not working now. One has to select all the songs and then, with the right mouse button, choose the info window to paste the artwork into the small box there.
    6) Finally, when the iPod is plugged to the computer, some viewing configurations on iTunes are not being memorized either. For example, I always turn the browser option on (Ctrl+B), so that I can see the artists and albums lists, on top of the complete song list. But everytime I plug the iPod back on, that option is switched off. For the main iTunes music library it's OK: I've only needed to do it once, and now that viweing configuration has been there forever, everytime I start iTunes. But whenever I plug the iPod and click on its music library, I then need to press Ctrl+B every time, because iTunes doesn't seem to keep that viewing option switched on from the previous time the iPod was plugged. Again, this is something that worked fine with iTunes 6.
Conclusion: there are indeed a lot of bugs to be fixed with this new version of iTunes, some of them highly damaging to the saved libraries. IF YOU STILL HAVEN'T UPDATED TO VERSION 7, DON'T DO IT YET. WAIT A FEW WEEKS UNTIL APPLE FIXES ALL THIS.

Upgrading to itunes 7.0 just cost me 2 days of messing around and in the end I had to revert back to v6.0 and resore my lib.
Apple CS was good but did not belly up the fact that 7.0 is defective in some cases and in the end told me I had a hardware problem!
The main issue is that I could not get itunes 7.0 to see my ipod (very infrequently after a hard boot I would see it but would not be able to upload anything). Worked(s) 100% with v 6.0.
This is very defintey 1/2 baked following in the steps of the other well known producers of sw that is not always functional/buggy the first time around.
My computer is a x40 IBM laptop with xp sp2. Will have to wait a few more weeks to see how this pans out.

  • Sync outlook problem after update to itunes 9.1

Today update to iTunes 9.1 - before sync with outlook 2007 was perfect and now itunes keeps on asking for my authorisation over and over.
And when I push the cancel button the sync stops.
I have installed itunes 9.1 over again and also have restarted computer and the iphones, problem is with the 3g and also the 3gs.
    Who can help?

    Hi,
Do you see any alert messages when not forcing the sync to stop?
Try downloading and launching the MobileMe control Panel for Windows. You can download it from here: http://support.apple.com/downloads/MobileMeControl_Panel_forWindows.
If you see a message when launching the MobileMe Control Panel, try moving or deleting the conflicting file identified in the message, as suggested in this post: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11300413#11300413
If you don't see any alerts after letting the sync go a little longer and testing the MobileMe Control Panel, try the tips in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1389.

  • App Update problem after updating to iTunes 8.1.1

Hello! The first time I opened iTunes after upgrading to v. 8.1.1, I saw that there were 13 App updates available; when I selected 'Applications' and then 'Check for Updates' at the bottom of the Applications screen, a message came that said "There are no updates available for the account __"; the account named was my account name, but with @me.com rather than @mac.com. I know that there are some updates available, as I've deliberately NOT updated several that I don't want the updated versions of.
Back to the iTunes Store screen, at the upper right appeared my proper account name, the @mac.com account. I clicked on that, producing a screen with my proper, mac.com account, and entered my password, which brought up all my proper account information; but no app updates were listed as available.
Then, checking my iPhone, the App Store icon showed 11 updates available; when I opened that, the screen stated that 'All Apps Are Up to Date".
So there seems to be a problem that has resulted from iTunes 8.1.1. I am reluctant to link my iPhone to this new version, as I fear what havoc might result.
    Any suggestions/solutions?
    Thank you!

I'm having the same problem. It started out with saying I have one app that needs updating, now it's up to two. I sync my phone nightly. I've downloaded iTunes again and when I ran the exe it asked me to Repair or Remove. I Repaired, rebooted and am still having the same problem. I'm also having sync issues with my calendar and Outlook. I'm restored my phone as well. Still having the same problems.

  • Problems detected after updating to iTunes version 11.1.3.8

Problems detected after updating to iTunes version 11.1.3.8 for Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit version, Service Pack 1.
USB connected iPhone 4 (iOS 7.0.4) is not recognised in iTunes.
    Sluggish response when starting iTunes.
    Any known remedy?

After updating to the newest version of iTunes which is 11.1.3.8, I can no longer edit song information because whenever I click Get Info, the program crashes. It says, "iTunes has stopped working...". I literally tried all the troubleshooting techniques here but to no avail!
    I already:
Reinstalled iTunes and other related programs like a hundred times
    Scanned my computer for viruses
Opened iTunes on another user account
    Opened iTunes on safe mode
    Removed unusable configuration files
BUT STILL, the problem persists. I have the same version of iTunes on my office computer and it works perfectly fine but I want my iTunes here at home to get fixed. Never had problems with editing song information until I updated it to 11.1.3.8.
I just don't know what to do anymore. I updated this program last January 1 and until now I haven't found any solution. It's really getting on my nerves!!!

  • After updating to itunes 10 i now get an error message saying there is a problem with the windows insaller package - I have tried all the suggestions but nothing works for me - have I lost all my itunes forever?

After updating to itunes 10 I now get an error message that says there is a problem with the windows installer package. I have tried all the things that others suggested but cannot download itunes at all now. Have I lost itunes forever?

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) (not for XP) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

Problems after updating..completely improrting all the music. This is absolutly ****!!! Not the right quality for Apple! Shame on you!

Wow! I put your germany text in google translator to my language and got a fright! Well, I stop using iPhoto just for the same kind of reason. I found a small mp3 player called VOX that works with m3u files and maybe is the solution for you. I cannot live without iTunes, but I don't let it manage my files anymore. It's the best player I know, but as a application, is a disaster.
Wow!

  • Ipod classic won't mount after updating to itunes 11.0.2

ipod classic won't mount after updating to itunes 11.0.2.
I updated to itunes 11.0.2 today, after delaying it for a looong time (I have it @ work and don't like the new layout).
Since then, none of my ipods will mount/show up/update. I've tried all USB ports, 3 ipods, 3 cords. Wondering if you know of any issues. I've restarted the mac about 15-20 times today since as soon as I hook up an ipod, itunes immediately spins the beach ball and won't let me click out of it.
I've restarted the ipods 10+ times each.
All of the ipods DO show up on my desktop though. Just not in itunes anywhere with 11.0.2.
One more thing: It's not the cables or the ipods: they both mount fine when connected to my laptop (running old *** 10.4.11 and itunes 9.)
Machine is a Mac Pro running 10.6.8.

Finding this Post took some time but I thought it was me talking when I read it. I was having the exact same issue. I have a G3 I've been upgrading like mad, including a Sonnet G4-500 CPU a Maxtor 60gb & 80gb HDs 1gb of RAM a new LaCie Firewire800 PCI card Graphics card etc. the latest was installing Panther 10.3.9 on the new 80gb HD and also swapping out the old CD-ROM and replacing with the (Apple standard) Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-110D combo drive in it's place. got everything up and booted and poof! no burning. Toast worked read/write no problem. iTunes could read and import no problem, but wouldn't burn a CD.
Downloaded "PatchBurn 3.1.3" installed, re-booted and all is OK in burner land again :>)
I wanted to just post my additional thanks to the lead to Patchburner, and I'm going to donate to the cause. It's worth a $20 donation just for my joy of not throwing this computer out the window!!

  • Problems after updating to 11.1.3.8 on Windows 8.1 Pro

    Hi,
After updating my iTunes to the latest version 11.1.3.8 under Windows 8.1 Pro, iTunes in opening fine, but once I start trying to access the Store or my account or to run a diagnostic, iTunes shutts down and the windows message appears advising that a problem occurred on this program and same will be shutt down.
Has somebody faced same problem? Any solution for it?Thanks

bman 58, it did help, thank you. I battled this problem for over a month and your solution solved it. Previous recommendations (including two genius bar visits) to uninstall/reinstall iTunes lead to more problems, including iTunes failing to open with an error stating "iTunes cannot open 'itunes library.itl' because it was created with a more recent version of iTunes." Other forum posts to uninstall and reinstall Adobe Flash and Java got iTunes back to opening, but again crashing when trying to access the store. Copying the QTMovieWin.dll file put iTunes back to rights.

  • White screen problem after updating to 1.1 firmware

My 2G iPod Nano worked fine with 1.0.1 and 1.0.2 firmware but after updating to 1.1 I get white screen everytime I turn it on after longer period of time. Turning the iPod off and then right back on makes it work again. I have done restore 3 times without effect. I even removed the firmware files so that iTunes downloads them again when doing the restore but that didn't work either.
Should I return it or wait for new firmware? Has anyone else had this problem after updating to 1.1?

    Disconnect iPod and close iTunes.
Firmware files are in "Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates" folder.
You should still have the 1.0.2 files named "iPod_19.1.0.2.ipsw" and "iPod_19.1.0.2.ipsw.signature" in there if have you upgraded from 1.0.1 version.
Remove 1.1 files from the folder so that only those to files are in there.
Disconnect from network (I switched off my wlan) so that iTunes can't download the new version. Connect your iPod and do Restore, iTunes will now use the old firmware files because it can't connect to the internet.

When I try to "drag and drop" a song, it just does not allow me to do it (circle with line thru it). I should also mention that I just changed PC's as well.  I tsnsferred all of the music files from the hdd of the old to the new. After reading some of the other posts, I think this might have more to do with the problem than the switch to itunes 10.6.3?
