Problems after upgrade: Leopard to Leopard no longer works

My sister upgraded to Leopard on her iMac(c2d) to Leopard yesterday. Earlier in the day we were able to do video chats with a number of people(her machine Tiger to Fathers machine Leopard). However, since upgrading, we've experienced weird behavior for video chats. Basically in her window she won't see her image(the small one), and I don't see her at all. We've tested this out with a number of other iChat accounts and get the same results. Btw, all machines that are chatting with her are using Leopard. Also, all other forms/capabilities work: screen sharing, sharing of pictures, audio chats.
Anyone out there have similar problems after upgrading from Tiger to Leopard? I have done the usual adjustments of bandwidth and QT settings, as well as restarts. What else should I try?
tia,
n

I finally resolved this problem: I think the issues/steps would be helpful for anyone who experiences iSight off or not working problems after upgrading to Leopard(then to 10.5.1) on a intel 20" iMac :
Problem:
-If you have an internal iSight on an iMac and your camera works fine in Tiger
-If you upgrade to Leopard
-If Chat camera doesn't show your image (iSight off) even though the green light is on
-You can see the other persons video on iChat
-Your friends can here you and you can share screens, files, etc.....everything but have them see you
These are the initial steps I took:
- Deleted the pLists(or stored preferences for the Application) described at the top of this thread
- Was told it might be slow internet connection so did various things: disconnected other computers, changed wireless to "G" only
- Specifically Opened of ports spec'd for Leopard on router (even though I hadn't needed to do this under Tiger)
- Tried chats with various people on various fast/slow networks
- Restarted all aspects of the network: router, wireless access point, computer
- Checked to see if the iSight was shown in 'System Profiler'. It was found in 'About This Mac->More Info->System Profiler->USB'
- Clicked Video icon in iChat Buddies window(to the right of your name) and coudn't see my image
- Opened 'PhotoBooth' and coudn't see my image(black screen)
- Opened iMovie and couldn't capture video via the iSight(black screen)
- Opened iChat->Preferences->Video and couldn't see my image
- Validated that 'Camera is Enabled' in iChat->Video->Camera is Enabled
If you are experiencing a similar problem with you built-in iSight, I would probably focus on the last 5 things that I did. What they showed me was that the iSight was just not capturing video even though it was capturing sound in 3 different applications.
The solution to iSight Off or iSight Not Responding or No Video is......reset your computer! I had thought my sister performed this but it turns out she hadn't. Here's the link to this procedure:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303446
Very easy to do though: Power off computer and unplug all cables, including power cable for at least 15 seconds. Plug everything back in and power up the computer and retry clicking on the 'Video' icon next to your login name. If you see yourself then...problem is solved.
While I eventually found posts in several other forums, it took me the better part of a week. To try this simple step. I wish I had done so straight away. Oy. I guess I learned a lot about ports, speed etc.
I hope this helps.

  • Printer problem after upgrade to Snow Leopard

My trusty HP Deskjet 1200C printer keeps giving an error now I have upgraded to Snow Leopard (on the way to Lion for iCloud). I checked for an upgraded driver on the HP site but there doesn't seem to be one after OS 10.6
I am getting this error - PrintJobMgr failed
Any suggestions welcome and advice for what will and won't work with Lion.
    Thanks

Try to restart, see if problem still happens.
If it does.. remove printer (and other periferals) from the computer and do an SMC reset. Also unplug your printer's power as well to rest it too.
    Also, do a PRAM reset.
Let us know how it goes.

  • Font Problem after Upgrade to Snow Leopard?

Has anyone else noticed this? I open a Keynote I had just done before upgrading to Snow Leopard, and the Bullets and font are all jumbled together, and don't play when I try to play the slideshow?

I noticed the same jumbled text problem.
When I went to look at Font Book, I see that those fonts are no longer installed. It must've happened when I loaded Snow Leopard last weekend.
Anyway, I went to reinstall fonts, and I see I've got a bunch that got uninstalled. But when I try to reinstall them, like Calisto and Caligula to name the first couple I tried, Font Book reports that there were serious errors when trying to load them.
Does anyone have insights into the vague message: "System Validation" as the serious problem? I don't see a way to get more details about the problem than that.

  • X11 problem after upgrade to Snow Leopard - keyboard unresponsive

I have just upgraded to Snow Leopard from Tiger.
I use Sun's Secure Global Desktop native client which runs using X11. It worked fine under Tiger, but since the upgrade it isn't working - the native client starts up (and starts the X server), it responds to the trackpad and I can focus on the login box, but when I type nothing shows up, so I can't log in!
I installed X11 with Snow Leopard and as far as I can tell it is running OK - Gimp seems to work. The SGD native client log says this:
    Smart card library loaded: /System/Library/Frameworks/PCSC.framework/PCSC
Smart card support failed to initialize (0x8010001d)
    Server version 4 3 0 915
    Client version 4 2 0 983
    Info: local X server available
Any assistance would be very gratefully received.

If other X11 apps are working except this one, then perhaps it's incompatible with Snow. To see if this is the case I would suggest installing Snow on a freshly erased drive (could be an external or other internal) and see if the problem is fixed. Could be the result of upgrading. You did upgrade Leopard, not Tiger, right? Can't do the latter without first upgrading to Leopard.

  • Problems after upgrading to Snow Leopard

Apple Store just upgraded Leopard to Snow Leopard on my Macbook Pro.   Now my printer wont work, The message "inkjet8 quit unexpectedly" pops up.
    What can I do???

First of all, your profile says 10.6.3.   If that is accurate you need to update it further ...  Once you have upgraded to Snow Leopard, if your upgrade took you to 10.6.3 you will need to apply the Combo updater   Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1  and follow with a software update to pick up the most recent security updates.
Then, if it still doesn't work go to the manufacturer's website where you may pick up an update for your printer.
But if the Combo update has not been done you should do it any way.

If you can't get Scanning running with the In-OS solution, a full Snow Leopard compatible solution is available [here|http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=al- 75095-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3457028&os=219&lang=en].

  • Problem after upgrading to Snow Leopard from Tiger

    Hello all!
I have an old macbook pro 15" purchased on 2007. It's model is macbookpro3,1 and it runs Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11. Recently I upgrade the system to Snow Leopard. Everything seems to be fine except the laptop runs much hotter.
At first I don't know why but then I found out that on the Energy Saver menu, there is no options to select between the intel onboard graphics card and nVidia 8600M GT. And it seems the system selects the 8600M GT as the default card, therefore my GPU temperature is always about 60 Celsius degree.
Another problem is the Airport card is also hot, it's always about 60C degree (according to iStat Pro)
So anybody has same problem with me? It'd be great if you could help me figuring out these issues.
    Thanks a lot!!!

Are you sure there is an Intel onboard graphics processor in your MacBook Pro? AFAIK, Mac laptops do not have multiple graphics processors -- MBP's have a single fairly powerful one with dedicated video memory & regular MacBooks have only a somewhat less powerful one that use shared system memory.
For example, the MacBook Pro (Mid 2007, 2.4/2.2GHz) Technical Specifications make no mention of an Intel GPU.

  • Extended monitor problem after upgrade from Snow Leopard

Upon upgrading Mac Pro (09) from Snow Leopard, I can only get a black screen on my extended desktop monitor.  I can see the mouse cursor, but nothing else.  I am not using Full Screen.  Any suggestions? The extended monitor is a SyncMaster 943. thanks.

After reading about kernel panics on this machine, I should also report that the MacPro has two Nvidia GT120's.  I have not upgraded the driver manually and have not had a kernel panic (yet).  Just the black screen on actually two extended desktop monitors.

  • FCP Problems after upgrade to Snow Leopard

I recently upgraded my system to Snow Leopard and am running smoothly in all aspect now, except for FCP. It goes to the spinning wheel everytime I try to use the "Edit to Tape" function. I have been able to delete the preferences each time I use it to get it to let me lay off a clip but I need a permanent fix. I upgraded my atto driver also but it's still giving me problems.
Anyone else have any ideas? Would like to avoid completely reinstalling it, but may have to.
    Thanks,
    Craig

You haven't given us anywhere near enough information to help you.
You mention an ATTO driver, but nothing about the external drive array. You don't tell us what version of Final Cut this is. You never say what format the sequence is and if there are any clips of any other codecs in the Timeline. You don't even hint as to whether you've tried this in other projects or sequences.
What other troubleshooting have you done? It's frustrating to make a suggestion and then the OP replies, "I've already tried that."
Help us to help you, please.

  • Printing problems after "upgrading" to Snow Leopard

Under Leopard my two printers (HP Deskjet 970 Cxi and Epson Stylus Photo 2100) worked just fine.
With Snow Leopard the quality of the prints with the two printers is simply bad. The print-driver is: gutenprint v5.2.3 even an upgrade to gutenprint v5.2.4 did not make any difference.
When printing a test page with the Epson Stylus Photo 2100 the printer simply pauses during the print somewhere along the test page. When the printer is started again (green button in the printer window) it starts printing from the beginning again and pauses again. Useless!

    Eric,
For the Deskjet, I'd suggest using the Leopard drivers (off of the Leopard DVD). They will give you much better quality printing, although you'll have to deal with lack of features printing from 64-bit apps. The easiest way to work around them is to print through Preview an force Preview to run in 32-bit mode.
The other option would be to install the [HPIJS|http://www.linuxfoundation.org/collaborate/workgroups/openprinting/macos x/hpijs] drivers.
    Just trying to help.

  • After upgrading memory Ovolab Phlink no longer working

Mac Mini as server running OS 10.5.8.
I just put in 1 GB of new memory in my server (Mac Mini) so now it has two modules one 256 and one 1GB. Nothing else changed.
Since doing that Ovolab Phlink (is my ‘answering machine’ programme) stopped working. It sees that a call is coming in and recognises the number but does not answer. On manual answering it plays the message to the caller but the phone keeps ringing. It also does no longer send a recording of the call per email.
I am not expecting anybody here to be familiar with Ovolab Phlink but wonder if anybody has a clue as to what could have happened that it was working fine immediately before and not working immediately after (all other programmes seem to be fine). Could it have to do with the internal battery having been disconnected? Or?

    Thanks for your post sig
You are posting in the "Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard > Installation and Setup" forums which your post has nothing to do with.
I think it does. as I assume it is a soft error to with installing
You should check with the vendor of the program
    done already no luck
You don't state if there are other programs that have difficulty working
    I did!
(all other programmes seem to be fine)
or if the machine recognizes the additional ram nor if the ram is appropriate for your Mini.
Both is yes and would be the first thing anybody would check and so did I. also with everything else running fine you know the RAM is working.

After upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion I cannot access a PGP drive which was generated under snow leopard. PGP does not start. When I try to start I just receive a message that Lion cannot work with PGP. How can I now access important and confifential informatio which I have stored in PGP (snow leopard). Do I have to move back to snow leopard. If so, how can I do this?

    If you have this product,
