Problems authentication school network

Hi,
At the moment I'm unable to connect to the school network with Arch Linux.
If using Windows and/or Android, I can connect without any issues.
The school uses the following security (authentication)-method:
- WPA2 Enterprise
- PEAP
- MSCHAPv2
- No certificate (they said it's not needed)
- A global username/password
The school should support it (at least Ubuntu).
There is also an eduroam network available, but also unable to login to this network.
I also tried the code (wiki) for eduroam, but this didn't work either.
I can connect, but I'm getting a message that the authentication failed with wicd & NetworkManager.
Has it something to do with the certificate? I had this problem somewhere else, but I needed the certificate of the network before I could connect to it properly.
Should it be possible to export the Android settings somewhere and port this to Arch? Has someone maybe an idea to solve this?
I already searched on the forums, but most of them got it working, but I haven't found any solution yet. Maybe I'm looking at the wrong info.
Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestion orschiro , unfortunately none of them work.
I'm using USB-tether to share the WiFi-connection, but it is a bit strange it connects correct with Android, but not with Arch Linux.
Maybe I'm missing something. :S
For the record, I have the same error on both the own school network and eduroam.

Nonsense, no problems logging in at sites that you mention. I use OpenDNS servers. For the OP try:
System Preferences>Network>Advanced>DNS. In the left side column click on the + sign and insert the following:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
Then click OK, then click Apply.

  • School Network Problems

I got my macbook over the summer and set up the airport wireless at my house. So when i got to school i had to plug into the schools network through the ethernet (there are no wireless networks in the dorms) . Problem is, the network is horrible and closes ports so that i can't play the huge online games I like. I'm using big technical terms because i think I'm cool, but I'm probably wrong. My question is, is there anyway i can access the internet, from the school, but not on their network. Also, I'm in college, and don't really have money to buy an airport express thing. It looks like that could be my only option. But if anyone else has any ideas please let me know.

Talk to your network administrators. They are the ones who can open up the network for traffic such as you are trying to use. They might do it, they might not, but if you don't ask there's no chance.
If you have another network running somewhere else that is set up for it, you might be able to set up a VPN (Virtual Private Network) connection to it, if you know how and your school will permit it. From there you can surf to wherever you want, assuming the other network allows it.
    Good luck.

I have sought help, posting on the forum at community.office365.com -
http://community.office365.com/en-us/forums/158/t/212265.aspx. But I've got to a point where I believe the problem is more to do with how PowerShell is operating on the on-prem Exchange server.
Has anyone else come across this problem running the Hybrid Configuration Wizard?

    Hello Darrell,
Have you verified the settings of Powershell virtual directories for the on-premises Exchange Servers? The following article has a list of some common issues with that virtual directory and how to correct them:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff607221(v=exchg.80).aspxI would take a look at the one titled "Configure Kerberos Authentication" specifically to ensure everything
    looks good.
As the article states you can run the Exchange BPA and it will check if any of these exist as well.

  • 802.1x connection problems at school

I am having some problems connecting my Macbook Pro to my wireless school network. My school is using a 802.1x network where i can login succesfully to the network using my username and password, i am getting this screen when im succesfully logged in (just logging in, no valid ip)
    http://upload.roysterken.nl/files/images/1507802.1X.png
I'm using DHCP as you can see here,
    http://upload.roysterken.nl/files/images/6694network.png
Tried renewing the ip several times. I dont seem to get a valid ip adress (only 169.x.x.x) i also tried manually entering but no help there.
I have been searching on google for any solutions for this problem and the only topic about this manner was found on this forum.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=376871
I installed all the updates so i could not find a solution there.
Some system information about my wifi card:
Wireless Card Type: AirPort Extreme (0x168C, 0x87)
    Wireless Card Locale: Worldwide
    Wireless Card Firmware Version: 1.1.9.3
    Can anyone help me?
    Thanks in advanced.
    Roy Sterken
Note: My wifi card is working perfectly using WPA / WPA2 or WEP at home.

    hey roysterken,
to the begin of last week i suffered a similar problem. During three days my MBP was not able to connect to the wlan of my university. As you, I did not get any valid ip adress just the standard 169.x.x.x.
The only valid IP address the book received was after a restart, unfortunately after the next releasing it was not valid anymore. When the book had to release its ip address (every 5min in our net) it did not accept any offer from the dhcp server.
Perhaps you could capture the network traffic between the dhcp server and client(your book). For such a scan you need wireshark.
Since thursday morning I have no problem to connect to the network. Unfortunately I do not know what has changed. All the time i sufferd that problem I was in contact with our network support and as far as I know I was the only one at our university who suffered that issue.
I found something else on the net, perhaps it will help you. It describes the same error as I had.

  • Is there problems with the network/signal in TA3 Taunton area

Is there problems with the network/signal in the TA3 Taunton area I have not had a signal all day and then to make contact with one of my children regarding school pick up.

Unfortunately so. Spoke to EE today and the service may take up to 72 hours to get back to normal - which is unbelievable given how much we use our phones for day to day life! As they cannot do anything for us, to thank us for our patience they are asking us to monitor when the service resumes and get back to them (no doubt on their £ per min line) and let them know and they’ll credit us for the down time. Just Brilliant!!

  • School network uses WEP with 802.1x  Encryption How do I connect?

My University uses WEP with IEEE 802.1x Encryption with Protected EAP. There are two wireless networks I can connect to and they both use the same security settings. In order to connect on my laptop, I have to enter an User name and Password. I have to use the same user name and password to log on with my iPod touch. The problem is that while both school networks show up on my touch, I can not connect to either because I am only prompted for a password when I need to enter both a user name and password. As far as I can tell, this is not possible on my touch.
Is there a correct way to do this? Is this feature even supported by the iPod touch? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

Followed your links and did some searching on the website.
    found this page: http://www.calumet.purdue.edu/ctis/wireless_drop.html
And I think this might be the problem:
    "How Wireless Access Works
Wireless access points emanate radio signals in a similar manner to non-cellular cordless phones. The signals are strong enough to be received up to 50 to 100 feet from each access point (and possibly further, if the access point is equipped with an external antenna). These signals can be received by laptops and PDA's that are equipped with a standard 802.11b/g wireless card. This feature can be requested when ordering a new laptop computer, or an 802.11b/g card can be purchased and added to most older laptops. _Please note that the iPhone, iTouch, and any device with a palm OS is not compatible with the wireless network_."

  • Unable to access website using home network but able to access using school network.

Hi, I'm currently on a MacBook Pro running OS X Mountain Lion and Safari v6.0.4.
As per the title, I'm unable to access particular websites, namely abduzeedo.com and fromupnorth.com, using my home network but when I try to access using my school network, I can access it freely.
The error message I get is: "Safari can't open the page [website] because the server where this page is located isn't responding"
I've tried clearing my cache, resetting my IP, deleting the library file (or whatever it was that some people suggested in forums) but it still doesn't work ):
    Any suggestions?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including Wi-Fi on certain iMacs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Time Machine and "might be a problem with your network"

Hi! My Power Mac is from 2008, and I'm in the middle of replacing my hard drive. Here's a summary of what I've gone through, including various trouble shooting...
OK, the hard drive dies (all of which I wrote about in an earlier thread and, I think, not very relevant for this thread). While waiting to buy my replacement, I created an external bootable drive, hooked up via FW800. I created a new User Account, and then I used the Migration Assistant to bring in all the user settings, files, etc, from my Time Machine. It took many hours and and during the stage when it was transferring files, it gave me the prompt: "There might be a problem with your network. The other Mac is not responding. Make sure that all of your network devices are connected and turned on. Also, make sure that your Ethernet cables are still connected properly to your computer and to the network, or if using AirPort, that the base station is in range and turned on." After clicking "Continue" got me nowhere, I clicked Cancel, and it was a very incomplete migration [no apps, no files]. I didn't sweat this since this external drive is a temporary solution anyway.
Tonight I came home with the new internal drive, installed it, installed Leopard, and began the Setup Assistant. I got the same prompt as last night. NOTE: This time with Setup Assistant; last night was with Migration Assistant.
I notice from reviewing the boards that this Time Machine glitch seemed to happen a few years ago, in Leopard, and maybe hasn't happened since. But I haven't read a thread with a solution. (Maybe I missed it?)
A few things come to mind:
    1. Could there be an issue with the fact that the computer is only 10.5 and many of the files/apps may have been installed when I was running 10.5.8? I'm just tossing that out there. For instance, what if I set up an initial User account, then updated the software to 10.5 and THEN used Migration Assistant to bring in the older account?
    2. Soon, since I'm reinstalling Leopard, I'll get the prompt to use Setup Assistant, and this time I'll just select account settings and apps. I'll bring in the files manually, later. Since the progress window seems to get hung up during the file-transferring stage, maybe I'll have better luck if I skip that.
If anyone has any suggestions, man, I'd be way grateful!
    Thanks!

"try trashing the timemachine.plist in your original user's Library>Preferences."
I didn't even get to that step. Here's what happened.
I went back to my original Admin account (the one I restored via Setup Assistant, from my Time Machine backup), and ran Migration Assistant again. I selected Applications only and when it gave me a prompt about the account name already existing. So, I created a new account name (TEMP 1, I called it).
All of my applications were restored.
Next, I tried it with all the files and folders. It didn't give me the duplicate name prompt this time. It copied all my flles and folders over.
Was it perfect? Well, a lot of the apps need some fresh registration and some upgrading, but I suppose that's to be expected. Or is it?
While I feel like this problem is in my rear-view mirror, I'm still interested in your suggestons for a Time Machine altenative.
    Thanks again for your advice!

  • WinRM cannot process the request. The following error occured while using Kerberos authentication: The network path was not found.

I have two forests with a transitive on-way trust between them: PROD -> TEST (test trusts PROD). I had previously had kerberos authentication working with winrm from PROD to machines in TEST. I have verified the trust is healthy, I also verified users
in TEST can use WINRM with kerberos just fine. Users from PROD cannot connect via kerberos to machines in TEST with winrm.
I have verified the service has registered the appropriate SPNs. I ran dcdiag against all my PROD and TEST domain controllers and didn't find anything that would prevent kerberos from happening. I even tried disabling the firewall entirely on my TEST dcs
but that didn't gain me anything.
I've enabled kerberos logging but only see the expected errors such as it couldn't find a PROD SPN for the machine, which it shouldn't from what I understand, it should go to the TEST domain and find the SPN from there.
I'm really out of next steps before I call PSS and hope someone here has run into this and could provide me some next steps.

    Hi Adam,
I'm a little unclear about which SPNs you were looking for, in which case could you confirm you were checking that on the computer object belonging to the actual destination host it has the following SPNs registered?
    WSMAN/<NetBIOS name>
    WSMAN/<FQDN>
If you were actually trying to use WinRM to connect to the remote forest's domain controllers, then what you said makes sense, but I was caught between assuming this was the case or you meant another member server in that remote forest.
Also, from the client trying to connect to this remote server, are you able to telnet to port 5985? (If you've used something other than the default, try that port)
If you can't, then you've got something else like a firewall (be that the Windows firewall on the destination or a hardware firewall somewhere in between) blocking you at the port level, or the listener on the remote box just isn't working as expected. I
just replied to your other winrm post with steps for checking the latter, so I won't repeat myself here.
If you can telnet to it and the SPNs exist, then you might be up against something called selective authentication which has to do with how the trust was defined. You can have a read of
this to learn a bit more about selective trusts and whether or not it's affecting you.

Scroll down and see the "Update Your Device Using iTunes" section here:
    HT4623
There is no "update icon" in iOS versions earlier than iOS 5.
The update is very large (over 1.2 gigabytes).  You need a good internet connection to download it to your computer.  Maybe you'll need to take a trip to a city to get a good enough connection.

  • Problem with the network (streaming-mirroring)

Hello guys, im really new in this whole posting my questions so hopefully im doing it right.
I have a Apple Tv 2nd gen  and it was working like magic untill i changed my network.
I used to have severall routers which meant several networks (more or less) but when i bought the new equipmens I had the great idea to have only one router (Linksys N6500) and a access point that i used as a repeater (TPlink TL-wa901nd) the network works great for the AppleTV and the computers but when i try to mirror or stream any content my computer says that the AppleTV does not exist in the network some times and others it does but when i try to stream it, dissapears.
My guess is that the AppleTV and the computer are connecting to different access points (computer to router - Apple Tv to AP or reverse) and therefore not finding eachother, and i have been trying everything to make them encounter eachother and then stay like that (they miss eachother alot ).
    Any opinions
    Thanks in advance...

Connecting to different base stations shouldn't be a problem providing your network only has one DHCP server. Have you set your second router up in bridge mode.

  • AAA authentication for networking devices using ACS 4.1 SE

    Hi!!!
I want to perform AAA authentication for networking devices using ACS 4.1 SE.
I do have Cisco 4500, 6500,2960, 3750, 3560, ASA, CSMARS, routers (2821) etc in my network. I want to have radius based authentication for the same.
I want telnet, ssh has, console attempt to be verified by radius server & if ACS goes down then it will be via local enable passwordf.
For all users i need to have different privilege levels based upon which access will be granted.
could u plz send me the config that is required to be done in the active devices as well as ACS!!!!

    Pradeep,
Are you planning MAC authentication for some users while using EAP for others?
For MAC authentication, just use the following in your AP.
aaa authentication login mac_methods group radius
In your AP, select the radius server for mac authentication. You must have already defined your ACS as a radius server.
In your SSID configuration, under client authentication settings,
check "open authentication" and also select "MAC Authentication" from the drop-down list.
If you want both MAC or EAP, then select "MAC Authentication or EAP" from the dropdown.
Define the mac address as the username and password in ACS. Make sure the format of the mac is without any spaces.
You will not need to change anything in XP.
NOTE: XP normally does not require user authentication if machine has already authenticated but it might behave differently. If it does, I can let you know the registry settings to force the behaviour change.
    HTH
