Problems authorizing computer to play purchased tracks.

I, too, appear to be one of the unfortunate souls who upgraded to iTunes 7.3.1 (3). I can open iTunes just fine, and all my purchased tracks and playlists are still there. However, when I try to play a purchased track, I get the following message: "This computer is not authorized to play...Would you like to authorize it?" So I type my password and click on authorize. But then I get the following message: "There was an error in the iTunes Store. Please try again later." Has anyone else experienced this problem? Is there really a problem with the iTunes Store? Or is the problem with iTunes?

I did a search of other questions for iTunes and found a fix to this problem. It involved fixing permissions. I wish I had more details, but I can't remember all the details. You will need to search the other questions.

  • Re-authorizing computer to play purchased content (movies)

    Hi guys,
I am having a hard time with itunes and re-authorizing my computer to play purchased videos on my macbook pro currently running lion and the latest version of itunes.  The problem is that i am repeatedly asked to authorize my computer to play the movies that i have purchased from the itunes store.  i have done this about 30 times already and i should only have to do it once.  I wouldnt care if i had to do it once it a while, but i get frustrated with it when i am traveling and do not have the ability to re-authorize (like on a plane).  i wanted to buy the movies on itunes so i could have them available when i travel.  i contacted itunes support and they told me that i should sign out of itunes on all my devices (macbook pro, ipod touch 4th, and iphone 4) which i did with no luck.  please help me to resolve this problem.  any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks!

anybody out there have an idea? still experiencing the problem and i did not get any solutions from the apple support.

  • Re authorizing computer to play purchased music?

SO, ive bought a few things from itunes, and then my computer was having problems so we backed everything up and then wiped it and re installed everything like it was new. When i put the music back on it said i had to authorize my computer to play the music ive purchased on my account, and i did but then it told me i had authorized 2 of the 5 computers im allowed to authorize. Is there any way i can fix that? cus really this is the same computer, so when i get a new one ill be on my third "authorization" and thats not quite right...

ohhh ok so i can only fix it once im up to my full 5 computers? alright well now ill rememeber to un authorize this one before i get rid of it. So in the case taht your computer just completely crashes before you can do antyhing you just have to wait till youre up to your full 5 authorizations to do anything about it?

  • ITunes 9 is saying the computer isn't authorized to play purchased tracks

I installed iTunes 9 this evening, and now i can't play the tracks i purchased from iTunes on my laptop because the computer is apparently not authorized to play them but the thing is i purchased these tracks on the laptop so why is this happening? It's also treating the iPod Touch as a new iPod when i have over 1400 songs on there. The thing is i bought them last year when i had internet on my laptop but i no longer have it on there so it's become a problem authorizing the computer (again)as you need the internet. How can i solve this problem? Is there some way of authorizing the music without accessing the internet, or can i authorize my laptop's music through using Windows iTunes? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi,
I had this same problem. I just rolled the dice and went to Store -> Deauthorize to deauthorize the computer and then immediately authorized it. Seemed to fix the problem.
On a side note, I'm apparently at 5 computers now. Does anyone know how to deauthorize old computers you don't have access to anymore?

  • IPod 5th gen won't play purchased tracks - my solution

    Hey folks;
I recently came across the same problem some of you experienced. I bought a new iPod 5G and sync'd it with my iTunes music library. All my mp3-files and podcasts played fine but my purchased tracks were simply skipped by my iPod.
iTunes played them fine; just the iPod wouldn't.
Here's what I did to resolve the situation.
    0. Make sure you have a backup-copy of the music files in your library. If not - do not proceed. // Write down which podcasts you have subscribed to.
    1. Deauthorize your computer
    2. Uninstall iTunes using the control panel in windows
    3. Uninstall Quicktime Player
4a. Run "regedit.exe" and make sure all registry-keys regarding apple have been removed from "HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\Apple Computer, Inc."
4b. If they're still there; remove them (Right-click; select "Delete" and click Yes)
    5. Delete the directory "C:\Documents and Settings\<YOURUSERNAME>\Application Data\Apple Computer" if its still present
    6. Reboot
    7. Re-install iTunes
    8. Re-import your music into itunes from the backup-location, resubscribe to your podcasts and play a purchased song to re-authorize your computer.
    9. Plug-in iPod and have fun.
This worked for me. So I'm just glad, that my iPod wasn't defective.

DELL   Windows XP Pro   iPod nano, iPod 5G

forgive me for my apparent stupidity, but I am not much of an IT person.
when you say to back up the music library, do you mean the itunes library or the ipod library? I have cleared my itunes library (to keep space on my pc free) and only have music saved on the ipod.

  • How do i activate my computer to play purchased songs?

I have read the "activate" instructions and activated purchased music, but itunes keeps askiing me to activate when I try to play a song that I purchased on another computer.
I transfered my music from a PC to my new Mac using my iPod as a disk. I am updating my iPod on the Mac. iTunes says that songs purchased at the Music Store cannot be put on the iPod because I have not authorized my new Mac. I then click on the song, as though to play it, and a screen pops up to allow me to enter my apple ID and password. I enter my current ID, which is different than the email address I used to purchase the music (an ID that seems to no longer exist), and my current password. iTunes tells me that I have now authorized the computer to play the given song. However, when I click on that same song, I am told to authorize again.
What is happening? How can I fix this so I can play purchased songs on my new computer?
    Thanks!
    Nicole

Nicole, Welcome to the discussion area!
I don't know how you ended up here, but your question has absolutely nothing to do with the AirPort Extreme or wireless networking. Instead you should post your question in the iTunes discussion area.

  • Unable to play purchased tracks from old account

am sure this has been asked many times before but...............
I changed ISP provider 18 months ago, i.e. our email address changed and we also changed our credit card details. I backed up all my i-tunes store purchased music in preparation for moving to a new PC. Despite authorizing the new PC (apparently successfully) i-tunes simply refuses to play anything that was purchased under my old email account and, I can't remember the password.
The ironic thing is that CD's that i purchased 10 yrs ago can simply be fed into the blue-ray drive and i can reload them. No such luck on music that was purchased less than 3 yrs ago via i-tunes. groan. we also don't have phone help in the UK. anybody help before i ditch i-tunes store and go back to buying CD's?

it does seem crazy not to have some sort of tag that u can carry with u
    What?
that would allow you to easily keep your ligitimately purchase music as your own
There's nothing really to do except copy your music onto CD/DVD/hard drive.
Continue to use the same iTunes account you had.
far too complicated and something that needs addressing.
I believe you are trying to make it much more difficult than it is.
If you get a new computer, copy your files from the old to the new.
If you have the same computer, you need do nothing.
Change the info in your iTunes account if you move or get a new ISP.
That is all you need to do.

  • Authorizing computers and playing purchased music

    Hi,
I think I do not understand what authorizing is.
What I would like to do is to be able to play music I have purchased on multiple computers -- it seems like I can't download the music a second and third time, so I assume that I would have to put songs on a flash drive or email them to myself to put them on another computer.
So then do I need to authorize those other computers in order to play those transferred songs? Is that how this works?
    Thanks,
    Matt

If those other computers are not authorized, you won't be able to play them in their original form anyway. Burn them as an audio CD & import them that way. You can have 5 computers authorized.

  • Authorized computer not syncing purchase movies to iphone

Hello, I recently brought my computer back to life and I am having problems syncing certain purchased movies from my computer to my iphone.  Everything syncs well except for some movies.  I got the authorize computer message and did that but the problem persists.  Everything checks out with the location of the movies and I am able to play them on my computer in the itunes session.  I just can't get them over to my iphone4 which I was able too previously.
Couple of notes.  My computer died and I have it restored all as is with exception to the new mother board etc.  Everything else works as expected other than this issue.
    Please help if possible.
    thx

They must be in a format to play on the iphone or they will not sync. Select the movie in itunes, then Advanced>Create Ipod/Iphone version. Select that version to sync to your phone. You can also use handbrake to create iphone versions & then drag them to itunes. Handbrake has presets for the iphone:

  • Authorising second computer to play purchases from ITunes

I now find that I cannot play songs purchased from ITunes on second computer, this has just happened recently. These were purchased using my old E-MAIL address and it keeps asking me to authorise using the old e-mail and  password for that account which I cannot remember. Apple cannot send me an e-mail to reset my password to that address as it is no longer in use.
It won't let me authorise using my new ID and password. Can anybody tell me how I can solve this.
    Many Thanks

Found out the bad news awhile back that I can no longer purchase from the iTunes store because I am using the Jaguar operating system which will not take iTunes 7. OK, got over that. Then today I tried to move a song purchased at work on a newer computer to my old one. Surprise, surprise. Won't even let you do that. Is there a way to rip the M4P file so I can play it at home?
