Problems awaking from sleep
I have it set that when I put my laptop to sleep it asks for my password when it awakes. I have always done this. The last two times I put it to sleep a blank screen comes up and the spinning beach ball of death just keeps spinning and nothing happens. I am then forced to manually restart. Why would this be happening all of the sudden? What does it mean? Any fixes? Sorry but I am quite paranoid.
Run Disk Utility to verify/repair disk and permissions.
Check the Console logs to see if there is anything that would explain the freeze.
Login to a new user account (new if necessary) to see if the problem exists there as well.
Are you using any USB devices? They may sometimes cause sleep issues.
Does it happen if you do a [Safe Boot|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455]?

HELP... Since last week, I can not awake from sleep. After reading a review I downloaded Deep Sleep, but after the first deep sleep, my MBP (late 2011 with Mountain Lion), developed a problem restarting from sleep. I straight away uninstalled Deep Sleep, but the problem has increased.
Now when I try to awake from sleep, a grey screen with the apple logo appears with a progress bar underneath it, which slowly moves to the forelast indicator, then it stops and a audio signal starts. Three bleeps and pause.
Then when I press the on/off botton and restart the system, the underneath error reports appears with the heading RAPPORTD unexpectedly failed.
Can any one help?

Cannot login after awaking from sleep (login screensaver sleep problem)
After awaking from sleep or returning from the screensaver, the "loginwindow" of system.login.screensaver (visible after checking "details") does not recoginze the correct password. It is not possible to login this way anymore.
Very annoying!
Fortunately, I found a workaround using the functionality to switch users. The standard OS X welcome screen recognizes my password.
Anyone experiencing the same or with a way to correct the initial problem?
PS: the user account in question is a "network user"; it works as expected for a local userMore info:
It seems to be the screen going to sleep, not the computer. When I come back and touch the mouse or the keyboard, as the screen lights up, there is a flash of the web pages I left up, then they vanish.
Yikes!!! -
Speakers pop at restart or when awaking from sleep
My external speakers pop everytime I boot my iMac up and also everytime it awakes from sleep. It's a loud, dangerous pop (for the speakers). What is causing this and how can it be fixed?
This is a common audio problem between not 100% compatible frequencies, and different power sources. I remember my old LP player would pop if a little dust was on the needle when it landed on the a LP. Otherwise it was fine. The iMacs capable of running 10.7 have digital external speaker port which can have standard Sony minijack audio or miniToslink connected. If the frequency is not set right on the Audio Midi setup, or the recorded audio file, it can cause static too. A bit of corrosion on the minijack can cause audio static when connected too. If connected to analog audio it can also be caused by EMF fields from improperly shielded speakers. The best way to fix it identify all audio devices hooked up, and to what ports, someone might be able to identify the source of the problem. USB audio devices without their own power can have problem with sleep, since USB goes into a low power mode.

Monitor wont awake from sleep mode
I have a Pavillion H8-1130A and HP x23LED purchased March 2012. The screen won't awake from sleep mode. I can use the mouse successfully with my laptop. I have tried unplugging power, switching around the DVI cables (I don't have a VGA cable to try). Any suggestions?
I recently purchased an HP Envy 15T Laptop. I am also having the same problem. When set in sleep mode for more than 3 minutes or so, computer will not wake up. Power button turns to solid, keyboard lights up, but only black screen. The only thing I can do is remove power cord & battery and then replace. I can then start computer. I contacted Costco Consierge. They took me through a sytem restore to an earlier date I had on file but problem did not correct. I am next trying to contact HP support for assistance.

Lacie Speakers and Mac Pro Firewire problem waking from sleep and loud feed
Lacie Speakers and Mac Pro Firewire problem waking from sleep and loud feedback. I had a powermac before this with the speakers and it worked fine. But the mac pro is having these issues. Is it the firewire port or the speakers or (and most likely) just a firmware glitch with mac pro? Anyone else see these issues?
http://web.mac.com/jerimydulay/Site/MyAlbums/Pages/Lacie_FirewireMIDI.html
Here is my audio settings. For some reason I wish I could remember what I did. It was actually the Apple Store tech in the Unversity Village in Seattle that gave me the idea and I swear I had to change the settings in MIDI setup. Now that Leopard is out it seems the MIDI stuff has been redone. I included screenshots of my MIDI setup as it is currently to see if you see something different on your computers. Let me know! -
When my brand new MacBookPro awakes from sleep it has lost its internet connection. It goes to Network Diagnostics and I need to step through all the pages to get to the end where it says connection is o.k. Is this a bug in Lion or could it be a corrupt file migrated over from my old MacBook Pro which would frequently lose its Airport connection and couldn't be reconnected until it cooled down. (This one always shows full bars on the Airport indicator).
That's definitely just paranoia. First, because in sleep mode, there's no internet connection. The computer might as well be turned off as far as the network is concerned, and there's no activity in the computer other than a bare trickle of electricity to maintain the RAM. The processor is doing nothing.
Second, Macs are quite difficult to hack, and if you're on a wireless network, the wireless router protects you from incoming attacks from the outside world.
Of course, you should be able to leave Safari open with no open windows and not affect your ability to get online when it wakes up. If you can reproduce that reliably, and if I can as well (haven't had a chance to try it yet), then it should be reported to Apple. -
Play sound when awaking from sleep?
Hello! I'd like to make my Mac play a sound (.aif file) each time it awakes from sleep... any way to do this? How about playing a sound when starting up?
Thanks!
John Berry
iMac g5 Mac OS X (10.4.4)Hi, John.
1. SleepWatcher isn't a tool for Terminal newbies, but it's the only utility of its kind of which I am aware. My book focuses on troubleshooting — valuable on its own — but not programming: implementing tasks with utilities like SleepWatcher is clearly in the programming category and involves writing shell scripts or AppleScripts.
I don't do programming tutorials on the Discussions since they can become very time consuming and if you make errors, then we get into a long thread trying to resolve them, which can be very difficult using a vehicle like the Discussions. I try to focus my limited time here on helping people troubleshoot their Macs. For questions like your post, I try to point them in the right direction or give them steps that can be accomplished without programming. I'm sure you can appreciate that.
2. You wrote: "Also, I can add my file to the Login Items pane but it doesn't automatically play -- QT starts up, loads the file, but it doesn't play automatically..."I see you sorted that out. I suspect you did so by changing the default application for the sound file in question to QuickTime and have QuickTime preferences set to play movies automatically when opened.
With QuickTime Pro you can save any sound file as a .sfil file and use PlaySnd to play it via Method B in my prior post.
3. You wrote: "I've been a Mac user since 1984... it was easy then, your file just went in the Startup Items folder (that doesn't seen to have the same function anymore...)."It still does.
Whether something is placed in /Library/StartupItems or added to your account's Login Items depends on if it is a System-wide function that should be started for all users before any users log in (e.g. enable the process used by anti-virus solution), or execute when a specific user logs in, respectively.
The SleepWatcher case is different: you need to know how to program the specific action you want the Mac to perform when sleep is invoked using a shell script.
There are plenty of resources available to learn the Terminal and Shell Scripting.
- I recommend some books and other online resources in my "Learning About Mac OS X" FAQ.
- Once you've made some headway in learning Terminal, one can find a plethora of resources concerning shell scripting with this Google search.
- There are a variety of Developer-related Apple Discussions for asking coding questions concerning UNIX/Terminal, AppleScript, etc.
- You could always e-mail SleepWatcher's author (his e-mail address is at the bottom of his Web page) for advice.
Why not take up the challenge of learning Terminal and a bit about shell scripting? It can be fun as well as a valuable skill. We only grow by challenge!
One of my mottos is: "Give a man a fish, feed him for today. Teach a man to fish, feed him for a lifetime."
Good luck!

AIR event when computer awakes from sleep mode?
Hi,
I have an AIR app that displays a new set of photos every 12 hours. Some users are complaining that the photos are not refreshed after 12 hours if the computer had been in sleep mode over night.
At first I thought possibly the Timer was stopping when in sleep mode so I instead modified the Timer to execute every minute and just check to see if the last refresh was at least then 12 hours ago. This still did not solve the issue.
Is there an event dispatched I can listen for to detch when the computer awakes from sleep mode? Or if any one has any other suggestions.
Thanks,
RyanNo answer till now. Better close it.

Open browsers quit when computer awakes from sleep mode
This happens onlyon my Powerbook G4 15" 1.33GHZ, and not on my iBook 700MHz. When the PB awakes from sleep mode, any open browser quits. Following is, as an example, the debug output in Terminal of Firefox quitting (I have already sent those reports both to Apple and to the authors of the browser).

Cannot awake from sleep after CPU replacement.
I recently upgraded my arch machine from E4500 CPU to a E6700 CPU. Everything seems to be okay, but for some reason I can no longer awake from suspension. My computer kind of just sits with the little blinking white under score at the top of the screen, which interestingly enough isn't blinking.
I was hoping someone may be able to interpret what's going on in these logs for me. I see some errors, but I feel like they shouldn't be completely messing up suspensions.

Anyone see anything out of the ordinary in there that I should be looking at?
Thanks!Aw, i feel sorry for you.
I don't have a clue about your problem though, have you tried suspending from a live cd? If the problem persists there, your best bet is probably bugzilla.kernel.org... -
5G iPod wont play after awaking from sleep
Im not sure why but all the previous posts for this very same problem have been archived without answers. When my ipod is left to go to sleep on its own, after its woken from sleep mode it wont play - even though the default pause icon changes to the play arrow the counter never starts and no audio is heard. I must turn it off and then on again to begin playing. If I turn it off ( hold play button ) instead of ever letting it go to sleep it works perfect every time. I see many others posting for the same issue in the past - I smell Firmware Upgrade !!!
Anyone found any other possible fix?
Thx - MikeI see helpful answers as 2 and solved answers as 1, but I dont see where those answers are, however, I think your G5 has the same problem I do. For some reason it takes a LOT of smackin me around in the morning to wake me up. I've had this problem for years, and I still don't have a solution.
Seriously, the problem will take some troubleshooting, but do you have any "other" enhancements in your system preferences or other apps loaded that might have an option to put your computer to sleep? if so, you may have a setting there that is putting your mac to sleep immediately after waking it. Also, try going to the system preferences and selecting "never" for putting the computer to sleep, then go to your "Apple" icon and manually put your mac to sleep (first option above restart) and then move your mouse or try some keys to wake it up and see if it stays awake. If the mac stays awake, then I would say this leads me to believe its your system preferences giving you the conflict. -
Why do I need to restart my wifi adapter every time my MacBook Air awakes from sleep?
My wifi is turned on, but when I awake my Air from sleep, Safari and other apps that use the internet don't work. But if I turn off and then back on the wifi, everything works again. Any help appreciated with solving this problem.
or you can "touch" your web.xml file.
touch web.xmlor that command is for *nix systems, not sure what the Windows command is. But basically, when you edit the web.xml, even if it means updating the last modified time, it will restart only your application and you should see the changes. -
MBP 17 unable to awake from sleep status and all system is slow...
Hi everybody, I've bought a new MBP 17 about a month ago, but in the last days it has strange behaviours. The main one is that some times, when i open it to bring it back from sleep, it doesnt't show me the login form. The only thing that i see is the rainbow wheel cursor. I've tried to leave it for a while (5 mins) but nothing, i must force the restart or shutdown.
Another strange behaviour is in some ways related to previous one: when i able to awake MBP from sleep all the system is slowed down, if i try to open any program the icon in the dock bounce for a while without blocking with black triangle.
Someone has the same problems or ideas to resolve em??
Thanks and sorry for my english
MacBook Pro 17'' Core2Duo Mac OS X (10.4.8)had a similar issue about it "not responding properly" and i went back to apple and got a new superdrive put in and have had no problems since.

I was under the impression that you could combine different AIR help files and access them through the AIR help viewer. Is that correct? Can anyone point me to any information about how to do that?
