Problems booting PM8M-V with Radeon X1300 Pro AGP

Hello,
I've been having issues installing a card I just bought and was wondering if anyone could help.  So far I have tried disabling the onboard video through BIOS and then booting up on the new card, but the system doesn't load at all when doing so (no beeps or bios screen).  I set the init display from PCI to AGP in the Bios as well with no result.  I'm using the computer now after resetting CMOS so that the onboard video is working again.
any help would be greatly appreciated

i put AGP in the title, i thought that was enough
and so far, I have gone back to my GeForce FX 5500 PCI card which is working fine. however, when I disable the onboard video through the BIOS settings and then reboot, my computer fails to boot up past the memory test!
rprough, that's probably the problem, is that the card is not supported. do you know where I could find a list of supported cards?

  • Problem using dual monitors with Radeon 9000 Pro and 2 x Samsung SM223BW

    Hello all
I really need an expert opinion here:
I am using quite a lot my MDD 1.25Ghz that is still equipped with the OEM ATI 9000 Pro Mac Edition with 64MBs of Video RAM and as most if not all Mac-specific cards it has an ADC and a DVI port. I recently purchased a couple of Samsung monitors; the afore mention in the subject SM223BW. The monitors have two inputs, both DVI and D-SUB (Analog VGA or otherwise plain old RGB).
I have purchased a Formac ADC to DVI converter and connected this output to the DVI input of the first monitor. It works like a charm and the picture quality it is quite good (not as with an Apple Display but I couldn't afford them at this stage). For the second monitor I used a DVI to VGA cable (going from the DVI output of the card to the VGA In of the monitor).
Now here is the problem: The monitor that is connected ADC to DVI has all the available 16:10 ratio option that are suitable for this monitor. The DVI to VGA one gives me only a 1680x1050 and all the rest are 4x3 resolutions.
Would anyone know why this happens? Could it be a monitor issue? Could it be that perhaps TFT monitors offer different resolutions according to the input used. Or could it be the graphics card? Or even perhaps the cable?
Under OS X, same settings and same computer I am given more resolution options. Would that mean that it might be as well my beloved OS 9 in combination with the card?
Or am I stressing this too far?
Please any ideas are more than welcome
PS: I have a dual 2.0Ghz G5 connected to the rest of the DVI and VGA inputs to be able to run both without having to repatch. Otherwise a DVI to DVI connection would have made more sense and solved the problem

    Hey Simon
I bought these monitors for their dual input functionality. The reason that I have the G4 connected to VGA is because I have another G5 connected the other way around in order to be able to use both computers, at any given time, with two screens.
Perhaps to make clear the connections I've done (if of course anyone is interested :)) ...
The G4 connects via ADC to DVI to the DVI input of Monitor No.1
The G5 connects via VGA to VGA to Monitor No.1
The G4 connects via DVI to VGA to Monitor No.2
The G5 connects via DVI to DVI to Monitor No.2
Another question would be why simply one mac isn't connected solely via DVI and the other one via VGA? The reason is that the VGA input looks awful on these screens for whatever reason. The image is seriously not sharp, the fonts looks horrendous and even with a lot of tweaking from the monitor settings, still I'd say the image is minging. If anyone knows why a VGA input can look that bad and still a monitor being in the market please let me know. It could be that this monitor is aimed to PC users and with the accompanying PC-only drivers all such are non-existent...Anyway I decided to go with the half DVI-half VGA solution to get the best out of the situation.
But on the question asked, I decided to use a 2 DVI input Avocent KVM that I've got with interesting results. I am pretty sure it is boring to read but if anyone has spare time here it goes:
The G4 connects via ADC to DVI to Monitor 1.
Monitor 2 DVI output connects to DVI KVM Input
The G4 connects via DVI to DVI to KVM Output 1
The G5 connects via DVI to DVI to KVM Output 2
The G5 still connects via VGA to VGA to Monitor 2
In this manner I am guaranteed to utilize the DVI inputs for both monitors, at least on my G4 and the G5 be forced to utilize one VGA. The plus side of the situation is that I can use both systems with the flick of a button without having to get up to change the Source on the monitors plus of course one keyboard and a mouse. Now here is the interesting bit:
Under OS 9, with the resolution 1280x800 on Monitor No.1 (the one connected via ADC to DVI) flips to - I think - 1680x1050 - it could be higher than that - with a thick black frame around the Desktop occupying a good chunk of the screen and the actual OS 9 looking minuscule at the center of it.
Monitor No.2 (the DVI to DVI connected one) looks just fine.
Now on top of that, when the G5 is switched on but the KVM is outputting the G4 desktop on Monitor No.2, whenever the mouse cursor slides on this monitor, it goes black! Just simply black and when I move the mouse cursor back on Monitor No.1 goes Desktop again.
Under OS X, none of the afore mentioned problems exist. Everything runs fine and I am give more 16:10 resolutions as well.
    Confused? I am

  • Problems after Leopard upgrade with ATI 9800 Pro 256MB

I don't know if this is related.. but I've been battling multiple problems ever since I upgraded my G5 to Leopard a week ago. Everything was perfect under Tiger.
The problem that only occurred directly after upgrading to Leopard... is that my graphics now get corrupted and garbled. I've got two video cards running two LCD monitors. The card giving me problems is the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (256MB). What happens is.. first all the window shadows and top menu bar start getting checkerboard patterns.. then the whole screen starts getting variants of different colors and checkerboard patterns. After awhile and refreshing the screen a few times... the problem goes away for a bit. Then comes back.
Again, this card and my entire system and drives were working fine under Tiger. Now, I don't know if I have a bad card? Is there something wrong with Leopard on my G5 2Ghz DP? Did my Maxtor 750GB triple interface drive just go bad with the upgrade?
I don't know where else to look, I'm guessing the "geniuses" at the Apple store won't help me since this machine is out of warranty. Any help would be HUGELY appreciated. I've been battling all these problems ever since I started the Leopard upgrade 4 days ago and have not got much sleep.

I've already reset PRAM with the option, command,P,R keys... letting it chime a couple times... and have already done this many times over the last few days. Doesn't seem to help. I don't know how to reset NVRAM via open firmware and the instructions are vague. But, supposedly a PRAM reset is all you have to do.
If it is a heat problem, why would it only have presented itself directly after a Leopard upgrade? It also does it when I boot off the Leopard disk. Actually does it worse. I'd just get a new card if I wasn't suspicious about the Leopard upgrade... not convinced it's a hardware problem yet. Though the card is mounted on the bottom slot above the CPUs. It has a fan on top that appears to be working but it doesn't look like much clearance between the card and the top of the CPUs case.
I could move it up a slot to give it more air... but it still doesn't explain why until last Monday, it worked fine under Tiger.

  • Radeon 9000 Pro AGP - will it work in PM G5?

    Hello,
just like in my topic. I have just acquired G5 2x2 GHz (PCI-X) but with faulty graphics card. I have a spare Radeon 9000 Pro 64 MB AGP, which was pulled from G4 MDD. Will it work in G5? In theory it should as it has AGP 2x/4x 3.3 V connector, which AGP 8x is compatible with. What do you think? I'd like to use it temporarily, before I get radeon 9800 or nvidia 6800 for this G5 Thanks!

    Hi-
I am aware of the AGP specs.
There is one other factor, that you have failed to consider.
Apples use of the ADC port also included use of pins in the connector that later became needed for the 8x AGP standard.
*ADC port is not a part of AGP 8x standard.* G5 uses AGP Pro port, which has somewhat longer slot, but additional pins are at the back of the card rather than front like ADC connector.
In the 4x AGP cards, the ADC port uses pins that are designated for other use in 8x.
Apple had to change the ADC port pin configuration for the G5. G4 ADC cards are not wired correctly.
I'm pretty sure, the machine will just not boot, like a 4x machine with an 8x card.
If it works, please let us know. It will be the first.
If you short out your AGP slot, you were warned.
Here you're right - ADC connector on G5-aware cards is slightly different. But keep in mind, that it is still used for ADC voltage supply, so in theory it should be enough to tape out ADC connector on 9000 Pro to not harm either mainboard or graphics card. After all, flashed Radeon 9800 boards do not have ADC connector at all
The AGP bus is 1.5 V only and is not backward compatible. Older AGP cards will not work in the Power Mac G5 computer.
This is quoted from the Apple Developer Notes for the G5.
Of course, but rv250 GPU used in 9000 pro card is 1,5 V compatible, so basically it should work...
Tough decisions. On the one side - I could wait for proper G5-aware card and install through this time system and applications using my old PCI Matrox card. On the other - seller claims that only Nvidia 6800 got faulty in this G5 when its fan stopped working. But if this is AGP port that is fired and I can't check it right away, when I get the computer... What would you do in my place?

  • Problems booting up after update of xp pro

Was getting this problem with updating the 4 previous critical updates for
win xp before service pack 2 and now getting it again with sp2.
Here is the problem (before xp2) windows does not boot up after 24 hours of
installing previous 4 critical updates, seems to get stuck whilst loading in
the keyboard and cant load in mouse driver, hence no boot up.  However boots
in safe mode.  found that if i deleted keyboard and started up again normally
it booted. it would do this infrequently. sorted it by uninstalling 4 updates.  Cant remember the 'kb' number of the dates but 1 was for ie6, 1 was for BITS,1 was a general fix for xp and the last one was for v5 win update.
Now i find i have the same problems as well as slow loading times for xp to
boot up, sometimes as long as 2 minutes.  Bought a new keyboard in case old
one was ghoosed, fixed it sort of now it only does on every 2nd boots.  have
to manually restart machine and tell it to load windfows normally,   had to install the 4 previous  security updates mentioned in above paragraph before sp 2.  im guessing one  of these is interfering with keyboard in some way.  any help would be greatly apprciated.  Have updated motherboard drivers but not the bios.  Have since discovered it is the agp driver that seems not to be loading and gets stuck in an endless loop

The four updates where as follows:
    KB839645
    KB841873
    KB840315
    KB842773
One was an update for BITS, one was an ie6/outllook express update, one was xp security update and one was v5 update ( to replace v4).  Was getting the odd blue screen crash and slow load times but have fixed these, caused by services such as  BITS, Workstation etc running when not needed.
Yeah the 9800 pro is not sharing power with anything
The fix for it just now (when xp doesnt load)is to manually hit the reset button, boot into safe mode. shut down again and wait 20 seconds and reboot, if that doesnt work do it again boot in safe mode and delete keyboard restart and boots up.  though with old keyboard sometimes had to do this a few times.  thats why though my keyboard was faulty.
Am now begining to suspect mobo is faulty, which i really hope is not the case as that'll be another faulty MSI part within 6 months.

  • Dual OS system booting issue - Solaris with Windows XP Pro

    Hi,
I have installed Windows XP Professional with SP2 on my laptop Dell Inspiron 6400 (Intel Core 2 Duo). I created partition as below,

D: 15GB (Primary) - Tried to install Solaris here
    F: 10GB (Primary)
    G: 20 GB (Logical)
    H: 20 GB (Logical)
    1. I tried to install Solaris 10, booted up system from DVD and selected Solaris. I got a message related to "License..." and it stopped right there, nothing showed up on screen after the message. I forced it to shutdown.
    2. Next, I tried with Solaris Express Developer edition DVD. I was able to proceed until "Install" option. After clicking "Install" button, it reported some account name(no account name found) setting problem and quitted from installation. It asked to remove the DVD manually. But I was not able to eject it, got stuck. I switched off it and removed DVD.
When I bootup the system next time from HDD or CD or USB bootable backup, it showed blank screen and blinking cursor. I am not able to boot system with Win XP or USB Win Xp bootable. I am able to enter BIOS setup.
Please let me know how to boot up Win Xp and install Solaris with it.

with my little experience i find solaris 10 isn't able to install on sata hdd but with solaris express edition 5.11 i was able to install it on my lap top toshiba tecra and now i can boot with xp sp2 and solaris i hope this answer your question .

  • Problem using clamshell mode with 2010 Macbook Pro

I'm trying to use my mid 2010 Macbook Pro in clamshell mode with my Sanyo TV as a monitor. I have an external keyboard and mouse and I keep it plugged in when trying to do this. I have tried with mirrored and seperate displays, both with the TV as secondary and primary display, and whenever I close the lid the TV suddenly says that the input resolution has changed and is out of the range of the TV. I have tried changing the resolution on both the TV and computer when both displays are active and it has made no difference. Is there a way to make this work or a way to keep the computer from changing the output resolution when I close the lid?

I have discovered that the issue is that the computer won't wake from sleep mode. I still have no idea what the problem is but it also occurs if I put the computer to sleep with the display open.

A salesperson from Bestbuy told me if I get a macbook Pro 13" with 2.5Ghz i5 and 4 GB RAM, I would be able to use Lightroom 5. I used the trial version, but it was slow on my Mac. Does that mean I need to upgrade my RAM?

  • Problem booting from CD with K8N Neo plat.

I have just put the system together and it powers on ok and allows access to the bios. The problem I'm having is with booting from CD. I have set the CD as a boot device. When I restart the computer with a bootable CD in(windows XP) I get a screen saying:
    Verify DMI pool data...........
    BootCD:
It then stays at this screen for anywhere from 5-15 minutes before actually booting the disc.
On my old computer which used a K7T 266 pro2(I think) motherboard when I set it to boot from cd it said press any key to boot from CD. This one doesn't, it just has the above info on screen and then eventually starts to boot after minutes of waiting. This as you can image is pretty annoying. I have tried it with 2 cd drives both on different ide channels and the problem is the same on both. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I believe the "Strike any key to boot off the CD" message actually comes from XP not the BIOS. If I put a bootable CD into my system which is not XP it just boots off of it with no choice whatsoever.
If you remove all IDE and SATA devices but a single CD/DVD player does it still do the same thing with either of them? Are they both from the same vendor? This sounds more like a device or cable problem than a BIOS problem.

Have you moved the paper guides to properly align the envelopes?  I do not see how envelopes can be loaded in any position but the center with the paper guides set snugly.  See page 42 (46) of the manual here.  Also, if you have the optional second paper tray note that envelopes are not supported in it, you need to use the top tray.
