Problems burning playlists?

Oh, boy...what doo-doo.
When I want to burn a playlist,
it burns some or most (depending on how it "feels")
and then spits out the disk as unfinished
(having 2 unfinished DVD DL discs and one single layer DVD disc as proof).
Between this and the loss of being able to adjust the degree of shuffle,
I'm going back (if I can find a 7+ somewhere).
Rod

I honestly don't remember the brand.
Maybe later I'll open up my computer, or go hunting for the receipt.
Here's what the System Profiler says:
HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GH22NP20:
Firmware Revision: 1.00
Interconnect: ATAPI
Burn Support: Yes (Unsupported)
Profile Path: None
Cache: 2048 KB

CD-Write: -R, -RW
DVD-Write: -R, -RAM, -RW, +R, +RW, +R DL
Burn Underrun Protection CD: Yes
Burn Underrun Protection DVD: Yes
Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO
Media:
As I mentioned, this happens during the iTunes backup procedure, so the file format is whatever iTunes uses when it stores music in your Library.
I haven't encountered any other problems with this drive in burning, or playing CDs or DVDs.

  • Problems burning playlist (audio cd) - multiple cd's; 7.7.1.11

    Hi,
I've been trying to burn playlists that have more than 1 CD worth of songs. I have encountered multiples issues:
    1) Insert a blank cd and the burn hangs. Can't eject cd inside iTunes or from windows. A reboot is necessary. The cd is partially written and now unusable.
    2) Multiple times, it will write 1 cd (or more) and then partially write a subsequent cd. One did 9 of 16 songs (inserting the cd, it appears that all 16 are written -- they show up from windows and in iTunes) -- the 10th song is skipped and all subsequent songs are as well. The cd then will not eject (see 1 above) at this point.
The CD drive works fine with Roxio (same batch of cd's) and is up to current firmware.
It's pretty frustrating to not be able to burn long playlists to multiple cds. I've wasted alot of time and CD's in trying to do this.
A side note -- I am doing this since Apple will not allow mp3 cd's to be made of m4p's bought in the itunes store. Our family has 6 ipods and I am trying to convert these to use in slideshows of pictures that I have -- which I prefer to have in mp3 format -- for personal use. It really is stupid to me to not be able to do this for things I have legally purchased and intend to use solely for personal use. Why won't Apple let their aac/m4p's be converted to mp3 (and saying it's to avoid piracy is silly -- yes, some people will do this, but a vast majority of people are honest -- well maybe not vast majority but a majority at any rate). It's frustrating -- and I dont' want to pay $30 to get a virtual cd to do this -- I already paid for the songs and don't want to pay to convert them.
    thanks,
    greg

That feature of iTunes has always been buggy. Don't trust it. Break the playlist into individual playlists that will each fit on an audio CD.

Don't buy M4Ps. Downloadable songs in MP3 format are readily for sale at the *amazon.com MP3 Download Store* and other online stores. The Apple protected files are only for use in Apple products, and clearly that limitation does not suit your purpose, so don't shop there.

  • Error 4261 - Problem burning playlists

    Hi,
I have been burning CD's through iTunes for some time without any problems, but recently I have been unable to burn CD's, as during burning I get an error message saying that Error 4261 has occured.
So far, to try to rectify the problem, I have:
Tried burning with my anti virus off
Tried burning with a different brand of CD (Tevion and Sony)
Tried burning with a lower speed (fastest possible, 2x, 8x)
Checked that DLA is enabled on my CD drive.
Tried removing purchased songs that might be copyrighted from the playlist that I am trying to burn.
Please can someone suggest a possible fix? I did not change any of the configuration on my CD drive, so don't understand why I could burn CD's before, but not now. I am using Windows XP, the latest iTunes, and a Dell Vostro 200.
    Many thanks,
    Hugh

  • Has anyone had problems trying to burn playlists to CD's so tht they can play on standard CD players.

Has anyone had problems trying to burn playlists to CD's, so that they can play on regular CD players?

Yes, I have had problems playing burned IDVD's on stand alone dvd players and on pc's.
I have set the burn speed to 4x and as low as 2x to no avail.
I will try Verbatim discs and DVD-R  to see if that resolves my problem.
I will also make sure of the minimum of 25 gb free space on hard disk.
Do you prefer a particular cleaning-dvd?  I've never used one on my macmini.
Thanks for your responses, I'm anxious to try your suggestions and see what happens.

i have a 2008 imac with snow leopard.  i installed update 10.9.3 not realizing it's best for Maverick's users.  Now my Itunes 11.2.2 won't burn playlists to CD.   Anyone else with this problem?  CAn I uninstall the 10.9.3 update?  Also my HP scannerwill not save the displayed scanned document since this update!  it just saves gray.

If you have your old system backed up then erase the drive and restore your backup. If you don't have a backup then backup your entire Home folder. Erase the drive and install Snow Leopard after which you can restore your Home folder from the backup.
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
    Or you can:
Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the
computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager
screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Reinstall the 10.9.3 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.3 Update (Combo).
    4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Reinstall the 10.9.3 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.3 Update (Combo).

  • Can not burn playlists

Until recently all was well with Itunes and the way it functioned. I believe it was after a software upgrade I lost the abilty to burn playlists. The error message is something like can not find cd driver software. It shows the DVD Burner but instead of it being the D: drive it shows it as F:
I do not belleve that I changed anything else on my computer.
I have removed and reloaded Itunes, tried the repair Itunes function but the problem remains the same. Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

  • Can't Burn Playlists to Disc ... Error 43 ... iTunes was Not Properly Installed ... Diagnostics Included

Hi. Immediately after installing iTunes a dialogue window appears stating that "itunes was not properly isntalled. if yuou wish to import or burn cds you need to reinstall itunes." This happens even after I complete the installation w/ antivirus disabled.  Indeed, I am unable to burn playlists to cds.  Upon attempting to do so, iTunes produces the ambiguous error message:  "Disc Recording not found ..."
My instinct tells me this is a problem w/ the GEAR driver software. I've uninstalled the driver manually, and then reinstalled it as per: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2308 (Solution 3). Still, the problem persists.
    Any ideas?????

If it's any help I have found I can't burn discs any longer in this precise version of iTunes. I have gone back to the previous version where everything is fine in this respect. My symptoms were not quite the same as yours but the result was the same - I couldn't burn discs. Yours is the first post on this I've found so I suspect Apple may not be aware of the issue or it is affecting relatively few users. If I find a solution I will post again and meanwhile hope that the next update solves the problem.

  • ITunes 11 - Burning Playlist to Audio CD fails when including CD Text

I just started running into an issue where I am unable to burn an Audio CD and include CD text.
I tried everything including different burn speeds and cannot get it to work.  I get the error:
The attempt to burn a disc failed.  An unknown error occured (4000).
Luckily nothing is ever written to the CD, so I am not making coasters.
For kicks to make sure iTunes CD burning was working for anything, I selected Data CD instead of an Audio CD, and the Data CD succesfully burned.
Then I attempted to burn the Playlist and unchecked "Include CD Text", and the CD was successfully created.
It has been a while and that means it was with a prior version of iTunes, but I have successfully burned playlists with CD Text.  How come this is not working in iTunes 11.0.0.163?
Anyone have any recommendations how to fix the CD Text Issue?

  • Itunes error prevening me from burning playlists on CD !

I installed Nero software to burn DVDs once. That created a problem for me in itunes that is preventing from burning playlists onto CDs !
Before itunes launches, a window pops that says: "THE REGISTRY SETTINGS USED BY THE iTUNES DRIVERS AND BURNING CDs AND DVDs ARE MISSING. THIS CAN HAPPEN AS A RESULT OF INSTALLING OTHER CD BURNING SOFTWARE. PLEASE REINSTALL iTUNES."
I unistalled Nero and reinstalled itunes. I still have the problem.
    Any suggestions ?

This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

  • Suddenly problems burning in iTunes

When I burn a playlist longer than 30 minutes, it goes through burning and then hangs on "Finishing" and won't actually finish. I have waited up to an hour for this finishing process, which used to take about a minute. So I have to force quit, then restart to be able to eject the disk, then it will play the first 30 minutes and that's it.
This just started recently, before everything was fine.

Hi everyone! After searching the forums for a long time last night, I discovered a solution - I tried a different brand of CD, and it worked! The one that didn't work was HP. Maxell, Memorex and even Comp USA disks did work. However, HP had no problem burning in iPhoto, just iTunes, when it couldn't get past the "finishing" stage.
    Hope this helps someone else!

  • ITunes will not finish burning playlist

When burning a playlist all appears to be going well until the burn gets to "finishing burn" and it never does. The spinning wheel just keeps on going and going. When I try to cancel the burn I get the same thing and the only way out of it is to force quit. Its not a hardware problem because I can burn CD's using toast.

I also am having problems burning a cd. I get a notice: "The attempt to burn disk failed. The device is not accessible, possibably because it was removed. " no other programs were running and nothing was touched. It gets part way through and ejects the disk particially burned. please help.thanks
