Problems communicating with device over TCP/IP

Greetings,
In designing a GUI for a device with both RS-232 and TCP/IP communications capability, I've run into quite a puzzling issue that has me stumped and my brain in pain.  You can query and send commands to this device using ASCII commands.  Developing the serial port communications aspect of the GUI was trivial.  My problem with TCP/IP is this:
I first establish the TCP connection using the "TCP open" vi.  I then send my ASCII command or query (that is CR terminated) using "TCP write," pause for 250 ms, and then read using, "TCP read" in the CRLF mode (the device does respond with CRLF line termination).  Success using this method in LV is intermittent, especially when I put the write/read vi in a loop and go between querying and sending commands-only.  As a matter of fact, if I am only querying the device, it will run indefinitely without any problems and my front panel indicators display values from the read buffer.  As soon as I send a command (to change a setting, for example), an error is propagated and the GUI no longer receives the data from the read buffer.  More recently, I've found out that the device is definitely receiving the commands even when the GUI fails to retrieve the read buffer, because I can send a query, switch over to hyperterminal, and hit return... it displays my response in HT without my even having to type in a command!  I'm totally stumped here, as I've played around with all kinds of delays in different places, different read modes, opening/closing connections, etc.  I even tried putting in a redunant "dummy" read by itself, and a dummy read following a write with just a CR as the command (I thought this might solve my problem based on the behavior I saw when switching over to hyperterminal).
I've been searching the discussions for similar problems, but to no avail.  I have read that TCP communications is handled by the OS, so perhaps this is where I am running into trouble?  Any help, advice or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
(A little bit more information on the device: The way I want the device to work is as a monitor, so it should be querying indefinitely unless the user sends a command to update a setting, at which point it would send the command and then resume monitor status).

Hello CryoGuy,
Thanks for the question.
Your description seems to fit this KB about poor performance in TCP read.  If this document isn't helpful, please let us know the following:
1.  Which OS are you using?
2.  Which version of LabVIEW are you using?
3.  What's the specific error number and message you're getting?
4.  At which function in LabVIEW are you seeing this error?  (Turn on highlight execution to see where the error starts if the message doesn't say.)
Thanks,

I'm trying to install windows 7 on my macbook pro. I went through the process of bootcamp telling it to install windows 7. Once the windows boot manager started an error message came up. The error message says " windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer. I don't have a usb connected to my computer. I  am using windows 7 professional install disc. I  can't figure out what i am doing wrong. The same message keeps coming up over and over. Am I doing something wrong or is it something else?

Well, shucks, i just spent almost 30 minutes trying to find your model user guide to explain it better, I guess they never got around to making it.....
I would just borrow another Windows disk and try installing it again and if it does it again then you might take it to an Apple Store and see if one of the "Genius' " can figure it out.
Make sure your internet is enabled and click on your blank desktop and at the top of your screen is a Help menu option, enter PRAM and it should give you a list of things relating to Pram. It may take a few seconds to list anything as it has to connect to Apples severs first. It should list the things you may have to fill back in when your done.

  • Spartan 3E with Labview 2012 (32 bit) on WIndows 7 64-bit - Error Code: -310602 NI-COBS: Unable to communicate with device over communication cable.

Thanks for the info, Kyle.  I will probably try to find an older 32-bit XP machine.  VM is just not an option for me right now.

    Hello everybody,
I am trying to use the DIgilent Spartan 3E board with Labvew 2012 SP1 32 bit.  I am able to compile the example code for LED shift.  I am however unable to transfer code to the FPGA.  I get the following error message:
    Error Code: -310602
NI-COBS:  Unable to communicate with device over communication cable.
Please verify that the cable is connected to a supported device and that the appropriate drivers are installed.
My system configuration is as follows:
Windows 7 (64 bit) on Dell XPS laptop.
    Labview 2012 SP1 (32 bit)
    Labview FPGA 2012 SP1
Labview 2012 FPGA support for Spartan3E
    Xilinx 13.4 tools
DEFB LV FPGA 2012sp1 support installer
Xilinx USB cable driver v1.3 installed.
I took all the precautions mentioned by others on this forum and others, mainly that the cable must be disconnected before installing the Xilinx cable driver. All software and drivers were installed correctly.  I even uninstalled and reinstalled the entire Labview software set I had.  I still get the same error.
    A few other questions:
    1.  Is the Xilinx cable different from a regular USB cable of the same configuration ?
    2.  When I program the FPGA I only have the USB cable connected between my computer and the Spartan 3e board.  Should any other cable be connected ?
    3.  What should be the correct jumper settings for J1 - JP30 (especially J30, J11, JP9, JP6, JP7, etc) ?
I have been at this or over 3 days trying to figure it out.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    a) why cannot I boot to Windows off the hhd?
    b) what does SDV label mean (secure digital video; silicon data valu;tr; static driver verifer  from Windows)?
    c) is the hhd simply failing. I do not have an extra to swap out and try
    d) may the Win 7 Recovery disks bad, perhaps, and should I then download a Win 7 ISO file and try that?
Thanks for any help. This is highly frustrating. I have already spent about 8 hours on this!

  • Problem communicating with Airport express

I have had a smal home network for some time. Set up is AEBS, AXBS as client to use airtunes to the stereo, an iMac that connects via wire to the AEBS, and a wireless Macbook. No security enabled. Today I was streaming some music, and burning some cd's with the macbook, when I noticed a very strange thing in the istat pro widget. In the network section it read in: 1 mb , out 104 mb. The computer had acted strange, as in very slow, so I freaked out and suspected someone was connected to my network and sucking info (or something) out of it. So I went ahead and enabled WEP security. Everything worked fine with the Macbook and the AEBS, even with the iMac, but I can't get pass a "there is a problem communicating with the base station" when I tried to change the settings in the AXBS. I tried to do it wireless and through internet to no avail...
I hope some onecan point me in the right direction
    thanks in advance

    2 Possibilities:
    1) AirPort Utility on your computer has become corrupted. Delete the current application located Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility, restart your computer and then reinstall the application.
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/#airport
    2) The AirPort Express device is not fully resetting to factory defaults due to an internal component problem. If you've tried the factory default reset a number of times and still can't configure the device, it will need to be replaced.

  • There is a problem communicating with the printer.

I have a Lexmark Interpret S405. I am using a MBP laptop with WiFi, running 10.5.8. I have a cabled (non-wifi) Linsys router. I am using an Airport Express.
I was finally able to get the WiFi light on the Lexmark to be static green after reinstalling the Lexmark WiFi setup and reconfiguring my Airport settings so that both the computer and printer see each other.
In fact, I even updated the driver from Lexmark's Web site last night and I watched the WiFi light on the printer blink green indicating that the installation of the driver update was being communicated to the printer.
However, when I print, it opens the print window and says first "Looking for S300-S400", then it says "Printer is now online". Then after about 10 seconds, I get this error: "There is a problem communicating with the printer. Make sure the printer is powered on and connected to the computer. Delete or hold the job and try again."
I've exhausted Lexmark's technical databases and couldn't find the answer here.
I've read that one possible solution was to delete all the printers from the "Print & Fax" system preferences window and re-add. That didn't work.
Lexmark says for: The printer communicating on a network; however, the printer is not responsive. Possible causes could be:
    1. Your printer is associated with a network, router, or access point, but it is not your network.
    2. A software process is blocked by a system security firewall preventing network communication.
    3. You are logged into Virtual Private Network (VPN).
    4. You are connected to a network but have decided to switch to a USB connection.
I don't have a VPN and have removed the USB cable, then restarted both printer and computer, and deleted printers in Sys Prefs, restarted, and still no solution.
I can print directly via USB cable, but want to print wirelessly.
Lexmark also says to enter my PIN (which I have pulled out from the print menu screen on the printer) in the System. That tells me a lot...
Network settings on the print window on the printer also tell me Signal strength is 5 (excellent) and that I am on the network my airport is on.
    Message was edited by: Macman17

I bet this is too late but...
Are you trying to print through the airport express wirelessly or the built in wireless of the lexmark? If you want to use the airport express, there is no need to mess with the wireless printing on the lexmark at all. The airport express will be easy to set up, all the wireless setups through the printers are a pain.

  • Safari cannot open the page ~ The error was: "There was a problem communicating with the web proxy server (HTTP)

Help!  I was cruzing along just fine and went out tonight only to receive the message above:
    Cannot open Page
    Safari cannot open the page
The error was: "There was a problem communicating with the web proxy server (HTTP)."
I have had all the Apple iPhone phone.  Have never encountered anything like this.
All systems are GO as soon as I log on to wifi.
    Can anyone help, please.

I am also fixed.  I also loaded Onavo, but that was the other day ... this is what I did with the help of online chat with AT&T ...
    I went to:
    Settings
    Wifi
I selected the network I was working on by hitting the blue arrow located on right side
At the detail page of that network I scolled down to the bottom to find HTTP Proxy boxes
I was on Off and changed it to Auto and it worked!
    I was soo jazzed!!
Instructions said if it was already on AUTO, to change it to Manual and make your Port = 80 but I didn't have to do that!
    YIPPIE!!  I'm a new man!!
Go to settings -----> WI-FI  -----> select the network you're using  ------> hit the blue arrow located on the right-side of the network name (ie: show details of that network), this takes you to another page.
--------> at the bottom of the page you'll see "HTTP Proxy" boxes (located below the "renew lease" button) ---------------> change the proxy to AUTO.   Note: if you're already at AUTO, change it to "Manual" and make your Port = 80.

due to the Microsoft article about the cu :
    I run only :
    Install-CsDatabase -ConfiguredDatabases -SqlServerFqdn FEBE.FQDN -Verbose

  • There was a problem communicating with the screenshot service, please try again later.

I've used browser lab for months without issues until late last month it keeps showing me this error:
There was a problem communicating with the screenshot service, please try again later.
I have to retry 3-5 times before I can get it to load the page.
I'm accessing browser lab through firefox 13.0.1 Mac OS X 10.7.4

    Hi,
We've had some problems with some of the backend systems we use and have had some accounts get into bad states. Can you please try it again until you see the problem, then respond with:
The AdobeID you use to login to BrowserLab with (don't post your password).
The date, time, and timezone of when you saw this error message.
Thanks, that will let us dig into the logs, see what they tell us and look into your issue further.

  • Digital Fax to Folder Setup gives error message unable to establish 2-way communication with device

Digital Fax to Folder Setup gives error message unable to establish 2-way communication  with device. I can s end a Fax and I can print documents. I can also, now, scan to computer. I have changed the phone line twice, restarted the router, restarted the computer, and made sure the front panel was lit when setting up the Digital Fax folder. I am on a Homegroup network, with both wireles and ethernet computers.  When I view the network, it sees both computers (wireless laptop and enthernet desktop), the printer, scanner, and router (VerizonDrive). I recently had to reinstall Windows 7, where Digital Fax to Folder Setup previously worked, and now it doesn't.  The network shows up as Network 3. When I try to view the network map, I get the error message that Windows cannot create the network map. Responses from other devices on the network are delayed or there is an  incompatible router on the network.  What am I doing wrong?

    Hello @JiffyFingers and Good Afternoon
From what you have described, and from the work you did on another thread, I believe you'd get better assistance talking to either Microsoft or your router manufacturer. With not being able to create the network map, that's something a bit more intricate than digital fax setup
You can have a look at this Windows cannot create the network map. Responses from other devices on the network are delayed or th... Microsoft thread as well, and you may be able to figure it out from there.
Hope that helps, have a great day!

When I try to order prints on my Macbook I get the error .... "There was a problem communicating with the Apple Online Store. Please try again."  I've gotten this error for a few days.  When I try the same thing with my wife's Macbook Pro there are no issues.  How do I fix the problem on m Macbook?

I found the problem thanks to some help given.
Go to iPhoto menu -> Preferences... -> Advanced -> > Print Products Store  was set to "none". I changed that to my own country and then it worked, I could place the order.
    Thanks a lot!
