Problems connecting 2nd pc to bt hub

recently switched from orange to bt. everything is fine. great speed. running a windows 7 laptop wirelessly with no problems, but cant for the life of me connect my xp desktop. It has sp3,so should run fine. It says I am connected, but when I open IE it tells me page cant be displayed as if I have no connection. When I try and connect my laptop to the net I have no connection. I have to switch the router on and off and the signal comes back. very unusual. anyone have any ideas. much appreciated if anyone does

First thing to try is a factory reset of the Homehub by pressing a pin into the recessed button on the rear. Once done try connecting.
I presume you are connecting your XP descktop by wireless and not by Lan. If so enter hub manager 192.168.1.254 in your browser and then go to wireless and change default b/g/n to just b/g and see if that helps. You might also have to change away from WPA/2 encryption because your Windows XP might not be able to handle it.
Is it a second laptop you are referring to when you say you have no connection or is it the Windows 7 one. You didn't say what operating system you are using on that laptop. Once you switched the Homehub off and on did the laptop then connect?

Physical problem connecting 2nd gen. iPod

I have a 2nd generation iPod from April (or March) 2003 -- yeah, I made my purchase about a month early! Well, it was great for well over five years. But at the end of 2008, I began to have problems getting it to connect. When I would plug in the Firewire cable, the iPod might go into disk mode (and begin charging), but the check mark wouldn't go away. The only way I could get it to connect was to apply pressure to the plug. Then I would have to hold it in until the iPod ejected.
I acquired a new iPod (a "Classic"), so it's not a big deal if I can't resolve the problem the older one is having, but I'm curious and would like to see if the firmware is as up-to-date as it can get and if iTunes 8.1.1 does any better transferring data to the older iPod than it does with the Classic. Just "scientific" experimentation, I guess.
The problem is that I've edited a lot of music since I last synced the old iPod and I don't wish to stand still and hold the firewire plug in that long. And if I let go, the computer will stop seeing it. Is there any way I can gently pull the port back in place? (The sound quality of the headphone jack is iffy, too.)

One thing you should try is to use another (newer) FireWire 400 cable. There is nothing special about the original thin cable that came with the iPod. It's not a big deal, as I'm happy with my iPod Classic and the better range of accessories I can use with it, save the fact that iTunes tends to corrupt files as it transfers them. I've already tried two different FireWire cables -- the original, thin, one, and a thicker one -- but while either will charge the iPod and put it into disk mode, neither allows the computer to recognize the iPod unless I press down. I was hoping I could use needle-nose pliers to try to pull the iPod's port back up without damaging the connectors.
(I'm might try it, anyway, considering I don't really need it.)

Problem connecting 2nd PC to DVI port on a L171p

I have an IBM Thinkpad T60 plugged to a docking station and connected to my LCD via VGA connection. I want to connect a second workstation via the DVI port. I got an adapter to connect my DVI cable to my VGA on the 2nd system (Lenovo ThinkCentre) port but no joy.
Can anyone help???

You have to make sure that it is the right kind of adapter. DVI to VGA is different in that you have to make sure you get the right cable or adapter that will transmit the analog version of the DVI signal. If you got the adapter that transmits the digital signal of DVI, then the connection will not convert into VGA, as VGA only accepts/transmits an analog signal.

Nokia N86 problem connecting to BT Home Hub

I am having problems connecting to my BT home hub with my new Nokia N86. I have used the WLAN wizard and entered the WEP code but when I go to connect I get the message 'Gateway could not be found'. I have been using it without any problems with my Nokia N95

Have you looked at the hubs log to see if it gives a reason for refusing the N86?
It's a while since I had the original hub so can't tell you exactly where to look.

Problem connecting wirelessly with home hub 3.

Kodak gave me advice onthis problem. Entered security key in upper case instead of lower and it solved the problem . No help from BT on this.

What john46 says is quite correct, also Kodak would give you NO support for setting up the Home Hub..

Problems connecting Wii via wi-fi to Home Hub 5

Sorry if this has been posted before. New Home Hub 5 - but my Wii will not connect to the internet - although it clearly can see the hub. Nintendo book suggests using a static IP address or checking for MAC filtering - how DO i get into hub manager???

It could also be that the Wii has a problem with the dual frequencies on the Homehub 5.
Try giving the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz frequencies different SSids. Just add a 5 to the end of the 5Ghz SSid so you know which is which. Check the 5 GHz Sync with 2.4 GHz: is set to NO.
You'll need to connect your other devices that can use both frequencies to both SSids if you want them to be able to use both frequencies.

It might be that your Wii can not use the security that the homehub uses. You may have to change the WPA/WPA2 security to WEP on the 2.4Ghz frequency.

Problems connecting multiple macs to an Airport Extreme network.

I think this problem is similar to a previous post, but is individual in some ways.
I have 2 Airport Extreme basestations covering a large flat connected by Ethernet extending a single network. I did try to extend the network wirelessly, but this was plagued with problems where the network would work for 10 mins, then drop out as I think the basestations are slightly too far apart.
Connected to the network are a number of machines:
Wirelessly we have 3x iPhones, 1x G4 Cube, 1x iMac (current model), 2x MacBook Pro (previous model) & 1x PC.
Wired via a hub is an Apple TV, PS3, Nintendo Wii, Denon Home Cinema Amp, PS2
For aprox 6 months I have had major problems connecting all the wireless machines at the same time. I have played around with the security as per previous posts with varying degrees of success.
I seem to have the most problems with the iMac. The iMac will not join the network when there is any form of wireless security. Every time I try to set up a password it hangs when trying to join and I finally get the "There was a error joining xxxx network".
After more playing around I managed to get all the machines working by having no security on the network and locking the network down by MAC addresses.
Since last Thursday I now have a new problem. The iMac joins and stays on the network perfectly, but the second my second MacBook Pro is switched on and joins the network, the internet connection on the iMac drops out. In addition, as we use the iMac as a media server, all other machines connected to the iMac for either file sharing or iTunes sharing then get the error "the remote machine is failing to respond. Please check firewall settings if there are any". What is strange is that the iMac remains on the network, full signal, independent IP address and the second the MacBook Pro is switched off, works perfectly again.
I have tried wiping both the iMac & the MacBook Pro and re-installing their operating systems, but this only solves the problem for aprox 24 hours then all of a sudden the issue re-appears.
Can anyone out there help?

Let's double-check the AirPort Express Base Station's (AX) settings ...
Perform a "factory default" reset of the AX

"problem connecting to server" when trying to access local disk

Recently (perhaps since I upgraded to Yosemite), the first time I try access one of my two hard drives through Finder I get two pop-up windows with error "there was a problem connecting to server". When I dismiss the pop-ups, the Finder window appears OK. I then don't get these errors for some time and then I get them again - and always two errors.
It seems the access request goes through NAS which fails ...
"NetAuthSysAgent[11958]: ERROR: AFP_GetServerInfo - connect failed 62"
and "NetAuthSysAgent[11958]: GetStatus: connecting to self not allowed"
but then it gets actioned as a local access. Can anyone think of why NAS gets involved? And mainly how to get rid of it :^).
There is nothing in login items that mounts either of the disks as a server. Is there a way to find out if a local disk is mounted as a server and who caused it?

There was a problem connecting to the server "10.0.1.30"

In the last couple of days I have started getting the error "There was a problem connecting to the server “10.0.1.30”" popping up on the screen. Nothing to my knowledge has changed and I have no devices on my LAN that have an IP address in this range. All devices IP addresses are 192.168.20.1xx and my router's IP address is "10.106.75.57", subset mask "255.255.255.255", gateway "10.106.75.57", DNS "10.5.80.241 , 10.5.68.232" (Router is NetComm NF2 with attached AirCard 320U USB 3G/4G modem).
A couple of weeks ago I switch from using a Sierra (NetGear) Aircard 760S Hotspot Modem (default IP address of 10.0.0.138) using the AirCard Hub wireless router (IP address 10.0.1.1) to the NetComm router AirCard modem combination.
If I Ping "10.0.1.30" the results are as follows:

This error message is annoying, but apart from that everything appears to be working just fine. Is there a way of tracking down what is attempting to call 'server"10.0.1.30"' and stoping it. I.E. is there a quick and simple fix?

There are many possible causes for this issue, and it may be hard to resolve. Please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Back up all data before making any changes.
Step 1
If you get the alert as soon as you log in, it's probably caused by one of your login items or by software that otherwise loads at startup or login. Ask if you need help identifying it. A known offender is "AdobeResourceSynchronizer," which is a component of some Adobe products. See also this discussion.
If you get the alert in the login screen before you log in, stop here and ask for instructions.
Step 2
If there's an icon representing the server in the sidebar of a Finder window, hold down the command key and drag it out.
Step 3
In the Finder, press the key combination command-K or select
          Go ▹ Go to Server...
from the menu bar. In the upper right corner of the window that opens is a Recent Servers popup menu represented by a clock icon. From that menu, select
          Clear Recent Servers…
and confirm. Test.
Step 4
Open the Printers & Scanners pane in System Preferences and delete any network devices you no longer use.
Step 5
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing command-C:

In the Finder, select
          Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return. A folder may open. If it does, move the contents to the Desktop, or to a new folder on the Desktop. Log out and log back in. Test. If there's no change, put the items you moved back where they were and continue.
Step 6
Open the folder
~/Library/Preferences
as in Step 5 and move the file named "loginwindow.plist" items in that folder to the Trash, if it exists (it may not.)
Log out and back in again, and test.
Step 7
Other possible causes are references in the iPhoto, iTunes, or iMovie library pointing to the server, and bookmarks in the Preview application.
Try rebuilding the iPhoto library.
Step 8
Triple-click the line below to select it:
/System/Library/CoreServices/Directory Utility.app
Rght-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
          Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu.* The application Directory Utility will open.
In the Directory Utility window, select the Directory Editor tool in the toolbar. Select Mounts from the Viewing menu in the toolbar, and /Local/Default from the node menu, if not already selected. On the right is a list of names and values. By default, the list is empty. If it's not empty, post a screenshot of the window and stop here.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). Open a TextEdit window and paste into it (command-V). Select the line you just pasted and continue as above.
Step 9
Open the following file as you did in the last step:
/etc/auto_master
It will open in a TextEdit window. The contents should be exactly this:

If there are any other lines in the window, post them. Otherwise, close the window.

I was having problems connecting to my internet at home with my 4s. I tried many of the suggestions. Nothing worked. I did not want to sit on the phone with apple etc trying to fix it. I bought a router extender. It worked like a charm.

I just want to let those of you who have problems connecting to home internet. I had same problem with my 4s iphone and tried many of the suggestions here as well as on the internet. Then I found something called an internet extender. Bought it and worked like a charm. It was worth the $60 I paid. No more hours of trying to figure it out. I don't know if this will work for anyone else with this problem but if it helps you I'm happy

I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort Express base station, and computer(s).
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the Express; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has initialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
Power-up your computer(s).
In this basic configuration, the Express will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options.
If the above steps do not solve the problem, start over with step 1 above, but then perform the next steps between steps 1 & 2. above.
Disconnect the Express from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the Express. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the Express to the Internet broadband modem. For the 2nd generation Express, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Continue with step 2 in the first set of steps.

Can't connect my Ps3 to Home Hub

Hi, just got a home hub yesterday and all the computers in the house are working fine. But when I went to connect my PS3 it wasn't having any of it. I fllowed the instructions step-by-step and tried it multiple times yet still have nothing. The problem is when I do the connection test it succeeds in obtaining the ip address then succeeds on the internet connection but fails when it gets to the playstation network part of the test. I have searched and found nothing. Please help

Before i got my house wired up i had the same problems connecting PS to hub.
also kept getting a host of DLNA errors.
Try configuring your PS3 to use a staic IP address and input all the details manually.
I found this helped alot untill trying to stream movies.

Can't connect hubbys ipad to our hub

Hi we are having a problem connecting to our hub on my hubbys ipad it is not accepting the password we have for it i have changed passwords for all my bt stuff but it's still not letting him log in.
It was fine last weekend nothing has changed during the week the pc is working fine of the hub so is my kindle just not his ipad.

Before doing it I would carry out a factory reset of the Homehub by pressing a pin into the recess on the rear of the hub. On your ipad check for your homehub, click on it and select forget network. Rescan then find your Homehub and select then enter your passkey from the hub to connect as per the above guide.

Can't charge my iPhone when connected to USB 3.0 hub

Can somebody tell my why ? I have tablet and there is only one usb 3.0 port so that is why i need to connect to usb 3.0 hub
And whn iphone is connected directly to tablet usb 3.0 then the charging works but message pops in iphone that ; This cable or accessory is not certified and may not work reliably with this iPhone .. ?!? but all works OK ? when i had 6.1.4 software never experienced this problem ... Once I updated problems started !?!?!?

Check to make sure that the usb hub is a powered one, if not then it may be drawing to much power causing the alert to come up that you are seeing. The article below will explain further about charging issues and how to troubleshoot them.

2012 MacBook Pro Intel i7 (purchased May 2013) constantly drops airport connection. My 2006 MacBook Pro has no problems connecting and staying connected.

I received a 2012 MacBook Pro INtel i7 for my birthday this May 2013. It constantly drops my airport connection. My ancient 2006 MacBook Pro has no problem connecting to airport, nor staying connected. I've had to write this message several times as I keep losing the airport connection and have to reconnect. BTW: I am less than five feet from the airport base.

After trying all of the above the suggestions, the problem returned as before. However, after digging some more I discovered that the issue appears to lie with the 10.4.10 version of the Mac OS; when I checked the software log under the system profiler I noticed that I had installed that update at about the time my Airport problems began. Apple then quietly released a v 1.1 combo update to 10.4.10 on July 2nd, which once installed appears to have resolved the problem. What's curious is that originally Apple listed that the v 1.1 combo update resolved some issues with RAW image data, and some sound problems, which don't seem to have anything to do with Airport.

Connecting 2nd Router

For some years, for reasons that are not relevant here, I have been using a BT Voyager 2110 router in place of the normal Home Hub. I needed to obtain wireless connectivity in a nearby outbuilding (with very thick walls) but the Voyager signal was not strong enough. So I obtained a ParkerVision WR1500 router which is nominally supposed to have a range of 1 mile, in open ground, and this does have sufficient power to serve the outbulding. The WAN port of the WR1500 was connected via an ethernet cord to an ethernet port on the Voyager.
I have recently been having problems with broadband speed and the help desk suggested that the problem may lie with the Voyager. So, the nice man sent me a new Home Hub 3. Initially, this made no difference but in conjunction with some work in the exchange the speed has been radically improved (from about 1.6 up to 6meg!).
However, although I have connected it in exactly the same way, the WR1500 will no longer access the internet.
I have searched Google for answers but what I have found has been far too technical for my limited ability.
If anyone out there can expain, in simple layman's terms, why the Voyager worked but the HH3 doesn't, I would be eternally grateful. Better still, if they can then describe in tiny baby steps what I can do to resolve the problem, that would be brilliant.
Incidentally, I have tried reverting back to the Voyager but, for some reason, it will now only work at about half a meg?

Try typing http://192.168.150.1 into your web browser which is plugged into the router and see if you can get to the main menu.
You are going to have to change the router setting anyway, if you want to connect it to the home hub.
Looking online, it does seem to imply an address of 192.168.1.1 which if changed to 192.168.1.15, should work, provided that its DHCP server is turned off.
I would also doubt that the router conforms to UK regulations, as its power output must exceed 100mW to get such a long range.
