Problems connecting in new place

I recently moved to a new place with a new wireless network. My Airport was working great at my old place so I'm thinking I'm just having connection problems. First my computer couldn't "see" the airport so I plugged it into my computer with an ethernet to set it up. My wireless uses a WEP but only has a 10 digit passcode. I tried to select WEP but it said I needed a minimum of a 13 digit passcode. I tried a few other things and a couple times actually got a green light on the airport and the utility to say it was communicating fine. But then when I would unplug the ethernet it would all be gone. Also, very frustrating that it kept changing my network info in my computer to join the wireless network so I kept losing my internet connection and would have to deal with that. UGH!!! What am I doing wrong?!? Any help or walk-throughs would definitely be appreciated as I am getting VERY frustrated!!!

Hello MichelleVee. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
I recently moved to a new place with a new wireless network.
Based on one of your comments, I assume that you just want to use the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) to join this wireless network for iTunes streaming ... correct?
My wireless uses a WEP but only has a 10 digit passcode. I tried to select WEP but it said I needed a minimum of a 13 digit passcode.
One of the problems with WEP is that the actual standard relies on a 10 character HEX key for 40bit WEP and a 26 character HEX key for 128bit WEP.
In order to make things easier, vendors use certain algorithms to convert simple alphanumeric passwords (or passphrases) into HEX keys, thus enabling the use of simple easy to remember WEP password rather than lengthy HEX keys. The problem is that different vendors use different algorithms to generate the HEX key and therefore an ASCII password on an AX will be hashed differently on a non-Apple client and vice versa.

  • Problem connecting to new Mac Pro with USB

I have a new late 2013 Mac Pro 6 core with 64GB RAM and a 1 TB SSD. I use a Thunderbay IV Thunderbolt drive bay and a Newertech Voyager for external storage and backup. The Thunderbay works perfectly. When I place a 4TB drive with a couple of TB of data (photos) into the Voyager, it appears as an empty 1.8TB drive. If I take the exact same drive and place it into the Thunderbay via Thunderbolt, it sees it as 4TB, sees the data, and seems to have no problem. If I ask disk utility to verify the disk in the Voyager, I get this message "Error: Partition map check failed because no slices were found." This happens regardless of which of the 4 USB ports I connect it to. Basically the drive will boot just fine in the Thunderbay, (Thunderbolt) but not in the Voyager (USB). I initially thought the Voyager was at fault, but this has happened with both a brand new S3 USB3 unit as well as my older Voyager Q USB 2 unit. I can connect a USB 3 card reader with no apparent problems as well as my iPhone, iPad, and two Epson printers. I am thinking that there is some problem with the USB connections in the Mac Pro but would appreciate any thoughts.

You got me curious so I dug further. We weren't alone in that problem. See this Apple discussion. And this review mentioned the 2TB limit as did this one. We both were the victims of progress. I remember when a 40MB HD upgrade was a big and expensive deal for an SE-30.

  • Problems connecting my new macbook to our wireless network

    Hello!
I recently received my new macbook and have tried connecting it to our WEP encrypted network that has been set up on a PC and runs from a Netgear DG834 router.
I have tried setting up a new network on my macbook, inputting the WEP (hex)key. I have also tried to put a $ before the key, but can't.
We have added the macbooks mac address to our network.
Is there anything else I can try? Has anyone had a similar probelm and found the answer?I am desperate!
    Thanks

If you can, try disabling WEP and then trying to connect. This will tell you whether your problems are because of WEP or something more fundamental. The new C2D macbooks seem to have a problem whereby they won't connect to some third party access points.
If you've got an older mac around, try to connect with that - this should also help determine where the problem lies.
If you can, it might also be worth checking if the router is updated to the latest firmware.

  • 5si/mx LaserJet problems connecting to new computer

I have a LaserJet 5si/mx with a JetDirect 10Base-T card connected through a router. I am trying to connect it to a new iMac, but the computer won't see it. My internet connection is through the same router and it works. Any thoughts?
    Thanks for your help.

Of course there is a USB connector for the ipod mini! http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=7E4 EB91E&nplm=MA591G/A . That will take you to the apple website where you can purchase the cord. I don't know why it dosent list the ipod mini under the compatible list maybe because its a bti older but thats the same cord i got with my ipod touch and it works with my mini aswell.

  • Problems Connecting 2 New Macs to a Windows Workgroup

We have a Windows workgroup in our orphanage that has been working fine. The Windows XP computers use the IPs of 192.168.0.1 (the gateway computer that connects to the Internet), 192.168.0.10, 192.168.0.20, 192.168.0.80, 192.168.0.90 and 192.168.0.100
I have (attempted to) assign the IP addresses of 192.168.0.30 and 192.168.0.40 to the two new Macs I am wishing to add to our system. Eventually I want to go all Mac.
I am using the DNS of 202.102.224.68 and 202.102.227.68 on the workgroup.
All of the windows boxes except one are standard network with LAN cables. One is wireless. There are three wireless access points in the system and I am attempting to set up both Macs using Airport.
Prior to hooking up the two new Macs I have two Sony Viao Laptops that are able to connect to the network via any of the three wireless access points. All the computers and the laptops can connect to the Internet via the gateway computer at 192.168.0.1. File sharing works fine. Printer sharing works fine with any of the three printers we have in our workgroup. Remote access works fine also.
Now that I have included the two new Macs they can see each other but not the other computers in the workgroup. The PCs cannot see each other now... and.... the two Macs can connect to the internet via the Win XP gateway at 192.168.0.1 even though it does not show up in Finder.
I am terribly confused and I have tried to read every post in this thread but none seem to help.
I downloaded and installed "Workgroup Manager" but the first thing that happens when I attempt to run it is it asks me for "Address", "User Name" and "Password" in the connect window titled "Workgroup Manager Connect"
Of course I know my user name and password but I have no idea what it is looking for in the "Address" box.
I would sure like some help if anyone has the time.
What I want to achieve is simply add the two new Macs to the workgroup so all computers can have file sharing, remote access, Internet access and printer sharing.
    Thank you in advance!

welcome to the discussion area, MacTags !
congrats on making the move to the bright side of computing
your airport utility (AU) does not see your airport express (AX) yet because by default your airport express (AX) has created a separate network when you plug it in. i suggest you do this:
unplug it first. re-plug it and click on the airport icon in your menu bar. you should see something like Apple network bj1234567 or similar (it may take a little while for it to show up). in order to set up the AX you will have to temporarily join its network ! you will get a message asking +do you really want to switch networks ?+ and you do want to do that.
now you should see the AX in AU. click on the icon of the AX once to highlight it and click continue. follow onscreen instruction and, when prompted, choose to join an existing network and enter the required information for your network.
    any help ?

I never have a problem connecting a new Apple product (AirBook, iPad) and even a basic laptop. Thanks for your help.

The AirPort Express Base Station (AX) can support up to ten (10) simultaneously connected Wi-Fi clients.

  • "There was a problem connecting to the server" in iTunes after migrating to new mac

I have a problem that is driving me crazy with my brand new iMac. I see many other people posting similar issues, but none of the other solutions seem to work for me.
I had a MacPro and bought a new iMac, on which I used Migration Assistant to set up. So the new iMac is virtually the same as my old machine in terms of appearance and installed applications. Both machines have Mountain Lion 10.8.2. All software on both machines has been through Software Update and is fully up to date, as are the connected devices (iPhone and iPad).
The problem is with iTunes. Every time I start iTunes (I think at the moment it checks my two connected devices) I get a pop up dialogue saying:
There was a problem connecting to the server "MacPro".
The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again.
This dialogue continues to pop up constantly as long as iTunes is open, interrupting my work and frustrating me no end. The old machine is of course turned off and indeed is not available -- but I can't find what on the new iMac is so desperate to connect to it.
So far I have tried completing erasing my iTunes library, deleting all the preferences, reinstalling iTunes from a fresh download of the dmg, safe rebooting several times with no peripherals connected at all, and deleteing other preferences like the Login Items, iPhone config and iPhoto. I have also cleared Recent Items from the apple menu and opened "Connect to Server" in the finder and cleared all servers from the dropdown menu.
Last night I also completely restored my iPhone from scratch to see if that would clear away the issue and I have connected both iPhone and iPad to go through any apps that have permission to write content to my computer and deleted all of them completely from the devices.
Nothing has changed at all after all that, and I have run out of ideas. Clearly there is something somewhere that has my old machine's name hard coded in it but I can't see any way to search for it. I would grep my Library folder but I think a lot of the files are binary so I'm not sure that would unearth anything. I've seen many posts saying that Apple phone support (which I would qualify for) can't help with this issue and so I have put off phoning them to simply run through all the things I've already tried.
Any advice that anyone could offer would be extremely helpful. I can't use iTunes at all like this as it disrupts everything I try to do on the new machine.
    many thanks!!

Nothing at all? Can't anyone help with this issue at all? I would be grateful for any suggstions as it is driving me crazy. It happens every time I open iTunes and also every time I open Mail.

Problem connecting wirelessly from iMac to NETGEAR router, get invalid password message with WPA and WPA-2 encryption in place but if I remove them, so no security, can connect without a problem. Help!!

Thank you for your suggestion but I have already had a couple of phone sessions with NETGEAR support and they don't see any problems with the router settings etc. They referred me to Apple support, who helped me discover that it is possible to communicate with the router but only if I turn off the encryption/security software, which I don't want to do. The frustrating thing is that I can connect wirelessly from a laptop running Windows 7 and two Anroid smart phones, with WPA-2 in place, without a problem. Do you have any other ideas?

I'm being shown an error pop-up message periodically saying "There was a problem connecting to the server. URLs with the type 'file:' are not supported." I have a brand new MacBook Pro, and at no time am I actually having trouble connecting to the server, but this message continues to pop-up several times a day at random intervals. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Or is my computer just having a glitch? Other than that, and a mildly sticking caps lock button, it's working perfectly.
    Thank you!

Alright it didn't solve it. Any other suggestions?
I haven't suggested a solution yet. I want to know whether you still get the messages while Time Machine is disabled. Do you? If so, try any or all of the solutions proposed in this thread:

Sounds more like you have a problem with your apple id. For starters go to that page click manage my apple id and singn in. If you can't sign in reset password.
    https://appleid.apple.com
if you can sign in there, try to sign in to itunes on your computer.
