Problems connecting MacBook Pro to Apple TV

not sure if anyone else is having this issue, but my macbook pro won't connect to my apple tv via airplay anymore. My college has really spotty wifi and it's extremely selective sometimes (one time it wouldn't let me log into the site that i put in my schedule for work, it just kept refreshing the site after i would hit submit) so i'm not sure if this is a software problem or if its my wifi. I can still connect on my iphone just not my laptop.

That would be a wifi issue, mirroring requires a lot more resources from the network and will need a stable/consistent connection. There would likely be a lot of other activity occurring as well so that will impact performance.

Can you drag windows to the other display?
In the "Arrangement" tab of "Displays" system preference, you can drag the display pictures to match the actual arrangement, drag the menu bar to the other display, or enable mirroring.

  • Update: audio problems connecting macbook pro to insignia TV: resolved

There have been posts from users who have expressed frustration that they cannot get audio when they attempt to connect their macbook pro to an Insignia TV.

Insignia customer service also attempts to state that the pre-April 2010 macbook pros cannot get audio output to the TV, because the units are designed to get the audio on the same HDMI and no alternative audio input is available on the TV.

For the Insignia models (from 2010 onwards and possible some from 2009 as well), there is a simple workaround that does not seem to be published elsewhere on the internet (as far as I can see):
Use the HDMI port 1 only (audio does not work with port 2, port 3 or port 4) to connect your macbook and you will receive 1080p video signal.
Use a mini stereo audio cable (example link below) and connect your macbook audio output to a designated green color coded audio port on the TV located right next to the VGA. You will receive full stereo audio.
Example link for mini stereo audio cable:
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00116VJIO

I recently acquired a new Insignia TV and had sound trouble.  I went to Best Buy to inquire about the cable in the link above and the sales manager had doubts.  He recommended a RCA cable with a male connection at both ends.  The RCA jack is on the bottom edge of the TV display next to the VGA connection.  The sound worked perfectly using the RCA cable from the headphone jack on the Mac.  I connected the video with a HDMI adapter from the monitor mirroring port.

  • Having problems connecting macbook pro to my tv

i am trying to connect my macbook pro (only bought a few months ago to my LG 42 " flat screen tv. i know that i am quite useless with all things computer but i have managed to get my husbands older macbook to work no problem (but his headphone socket is broken so no sound apart from the macbook itself- a little quiet). however i have bout a mini display port to HDMI cable i have also tried mini dispaly port to DVI adapter and a VGA adapter. the tv recognizers the macbook pro as the purple screen saver (the one that looks like a galaxy and comes up when you are downloading new software......sorry i told you i don't know much about this) shows up on the tv but the dvd, or page that i have open on my mac doesn't come up. please can anyone help as i really want to watch some tv programs from the internet on my tv asap.

It sounds like you're making progress. The problem, I think, is that you need to set your displays to "mirror" each other. For instructions, in Finder, choose Help and search for "Setting up multiple displays to show the same image"

  • Having Problems connecting MacBook Pro to Panasonic TV

    Hello Forum!
This is my first post on here. I am a long time mac lover and have recently been trying to connect my MacBook Pro to my 42inch Panasonic Viera TV (TX-P42X10B)
I am using a DVI to VGA adapter and then a VGA to HDMI cable.
Now my MacBook detects the 'Panasonic-TV' but the TV screen stays black.
Now I have turned them both off and on at the same time and turned the resolution down as suggested on the my computers help - 'If the TV screen is black, select a lower resolution in Displays preferences.' But the screen stays black.
I am selected the correct port on the TV by the way!!
Thanks for reading and please help!!

However, I still don't get a view of anything on the desktop except for the standard Apple swirl.

  • Problem connecting Macbook Pro with WRT160n wireless

My roommate and I recently got WRT160n, and she has a PC and her connection was fine. But for my Macbook, whenever I try to connect to the network and put in my password (the one that I set up) it says that the password is incorrect. I'm not sure what the problem is. I tried configuring with the 192.168.1.1 thing, but that didn't help me much either (unless I was doing it wrong.) Help?

Make sure that the wireless password is correct ....also disable all firewall on the MAC computer .... & check that you are able to connect the network or not ....
If so then try to ping the DG ....

I am trying to connect my MacBook Pro to Apple TV but without success. Any ideas?

How old is your MBP (year and season)?
 > About This Mac > More Info...
Apple TV is supported on a early 2011 or newer MacBook Pros with OS X Lion v10.7.5 or later.  If your MBP is older than that then you can use AirParot to connect to Apple TV.

Slow performance after installing Yosemite on an older Mac is often caused by inadequate memory. Although you can install the upgrade on a Mac with 2 GB of memory, experience has shown that at least 4 GB is needed for full performance.
Select About This Mac from the Apple menu. If you have less than 4 GB of memory, and your model has upgradable memory, install as much as it can take, or at least that much. Any reputable RAM vendor will have a web form in which you can select the Mac model and be directed to compatible parts.
Memory in the MacBook Air is not upgradable. If that's what you have, you should restore the previous system from a backup, or replace the machine. Ask if you need guidance.
The Etrecheck report clearly shows that SylvieRose has a Macbook Pro, not a Macbook Air and that there are only 2 GB  RAM installed.  The Etrecheck report can be very informative if one takes the time to examine it.
    Ciao.

  • Best stand for MacBook Pro and Apple LED Display

I am buying a MacBook Pro and Apple LED Display tomorrow. I want to have a two display setup, similar to what I have seen in the Apple Store. I believe they used a Griffin Elevator. I want to make sure of two things: that the stand is sturdy enough so that my laptop won't slide off of it and that I can adjust the stand/monitor so that the tops are level (so that moving my mouse from the laptop to monitor and back is smooth - i.e. the cursor doesn't jump up or down.
I like the fact that I can use this setup to go mobile very quickly, but what about my direct Ethernet connection. I wish there were a stand/dock such that I could hook everything up to it and then just undock the entire machine.

How did you solve the problem of closing the Macbook Pro when it was connected to the display and preventing it from going to sleep?
I am thinking about buying one. When I went to the local Apple Store the tech guys told me that it would be necessary to keep the laptop open slightly when connecting it to the display. They said it was something to do with cooling. It didn't sound right to me. I'm sure that Apple didn't solely intend for the Cinema Displays to be used by Mac Pro and Mac Mini users.
There must be a simple way to "dock" or connect a Mac laptop (Macbook Pro or Macbook) to an Apple Cinema display or any other display with DVI input while keeping the laptop closed with an external keyboard and mouse connected and still be able to use the SuperDrive.
I'm very curious about how you handled this.
    All the best for now,
    Ambrose

  • How to connect macbook pro to panasonic tv with hdmi cable

How to connect macbook pro to panasonic hd tv with hdmi cable

    Hi m,
It depends which MPB you have and the inputs on the TV. The following assumes your TV has an HDMI input which will work with a computer.
This is if your MBP is from April 2010 or newer:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4241
First connect the adapter to the MBP and the HDMI cable from the adapter to the TV, then go to System Preferences > Sound > Output > select HDMI.
Or if your MBP is older than that and you have a Mini DisplayPort, you can use something like this: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/CBLMDPHDMID/
If it's older than that, for video you need a DVI or mini DVI to HDMI or whatever input your TV has. For audio, you need a 3.5mm stereo mini plug to RCA or optical (Toslink), depending on what audio input your TV has.
