Problems connecting powerbook to ipod touch through wifi

Hi,
I searched for previous posts but couldn't find a solutuion. I have been using the high speed internet from my powerbook to connect to my iPod Touch through wifi to be able to use the internet on my ipod close to my computer.
I have been using the advise of "mrtotes" on another apple discussion. I copied the URL and the part of the discussion that I use.
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1240824
"Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions,
OS X's IP firewall is probably blocking incoming Port 80 requests (i.e. web traffic).
Go to  menu > System Preferences... > Sharing > and under Services check "Web Sharing".
I assume you already have switched on Internet Sharing on the Internet section under Services on the Sharing pane and are "Sharing your connection from": "Built-in Ethernet". To computers using "Airport".
To secure the connection (recommended) go to  menu > System Preferences... > Sharing > Internet section. Click on "Airport Options..." and check "Enable encryption (using WEP)". Then enter a password twice. Users will need to enter this password to share your connection, although you should be aware even 128bit WEP isn't all that secure.
cheers
mrtotes"
I have been using these instructions successfully to connect my ipod to my powerbook for several months but now it has stopped working. When I get to System preferences>sharing>interenet and I select "Share yur connection from: Built-in ethernet", the only opions I have for "To computers using:_______" are "Built-in Ethernet" and "buildt-in Firewire" nothing about airport. Also at the bottom of the sharing window the "Airport Options" is greyed out and I can't select it. So I went to system preferences>network and my airport is listed but "Airport is currently off" So I click "Connect..." and the "Internet connect" window opens to the "airport" tab. "Airport Power: Off" and everything is greyed out so I can't select anything. And at the bottom of the window. "Status: No Airport Hardware found". So I went to the system profiler clicked on "network" on the left hand side, then clicked on "Airport" at the top right under "active services" and then looked a the information on the lower right side of the window:
AirPort:
Type: AirPort
Hardware: AirPort
BSD Device Name: en1
IPv4:
Configuration Method: DHCP
IPv6:
Configuration Method: Automatic
Proxies:
Proxy Configuration Method: Manual
ExcludeSimpleHostnames: 0
FTP Passive Mode: Yes
Auto Discovery Enabled: No
Strangely, If instead of clicking on "Network" on the left side, I open up the drop down list under "network" (i.e. Airport card, firewiall, locations, modems, volumes) and click on "airport Card", I'm told "no information found"
Any solutions?

For some reason, iOS 6 has decided to download on my iPod Touch through WiFi. I didn't request it, nothing is set to automatically update in the Touch settings, or iTunes. It seemed to start downloading when I  synced the Touch. I've disconnected the Touch from WiFi temporarily. How can I cancel the download, or will there be an option when it's done downloading to cancel the install?
    Thanks for any help...

You should really read the manual.
"How do you restore from backup? "
Restore.  When given the choice, choose to use backup.
"And how can I check to see if the pics and videos are on my computer somewhere first??"
They would only be where you put them.  What program did you use to import them?  Pics/vids taken with ipod are not part of the sync process at all.  You should be importing them just as you would with any digital camera.
If you did not import them, then they are not on your computer.

  • If i download a movie on my computer, can i get it to my ipod touch through wif?

No, connect your iPod Touch to your computer to sync the movie. Also make sure that the digital copy is in a format supported by the iPod Touch.

Okay so basically my Ipod will connect to any wifi connection, except my home wifi. It use to connect just fine, but for some reason it won't connect anymore. When I go to select my wifi, it shows & I tap on it, then a check mark appears, then a couple mins later the wifi symbol in the top right shows up. Even though it says it's connected it wont let me get on safari or anything, basically acting like it's not connected. I have a linkys router, & it's a unsecured network, & my laptop connects to it just fine, if that helps any. PLEAASEEE help me

    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router.
    - Reset networks settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

  • How to stream music to an ipod touch through wifi

So, here is what I want to do:
Stream music from an external drive (like Roku) to my iPod, so that I can play the music (on Roku) off of the iPod. Is there anyway I can do that?
I have been using an app on iPod, but I dont want my computer running all the time. So I want to use the Roku as a hub and storage device. Is that possible? If so how?
    Thanks!

    google zumocast.
downloads are currently suspended but the app will do exactly what you want.

My 30-pin dock is connected to my lightning to 30-pin connector which is connected to my iPod touch 5g. But my iPod will only charge, and will not play music through my dock, only through the iPod's internal speaker. Help please!

Have you tried resetting both the iPod and dock? To reset the iPod, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
To reset the dock, unplug it and plug it back in.

What version of iTunes is on the computer? You need at least 11.4.

    Hello jose mariofromsan luis potosi,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature of the issue you are describing. If you are saying that your iOS devices are not showing up in iTunes on your Windows computer, you may find the troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article helpful:
iPhone, iPad, or iPod not recognized in iTunes for Windows - Apple Support
On the other hand, if you are saying that your devices are only showing a Connect To iTunes icon screen, then this article may be more useful:

  • Connecting Sensor to Ipod touch

I purchased a Nike+ sensor for use with my iPod touch and it worked well (although the distances it recorded was out by about 10%). One day, it stopped working (only after using it for about 2 weeks) - the iPod could't find the sensor. I tried a range of things to get the senor and iPod to connect, but with no success
I took the senor back to the Apple stor who promptly replaced it, but this sensor isn't 'connecting' either. I've pressed the 'sleep' button, I turned the Nike+ on and off from the settings on my iPod, shaken the sensor next to the iPod and far away from th iPod... but nothing. I'm starting to worry if it's my iPod.
It has the latest version of the iPod software (and it has worked with the Nike+ before), but I can't see why it won''t connect.
Anybody have any ideas as to what I can do?

I had the same problem. After my old sensor wasn't recognized anymore I bought a new one from Apple. For the past 3 or more days I've been trying to pair the new sensor without success. Thought problem was on the iPod touch side. Did a reboot, reset network settings, and everything else I could think of. Finally wondered if it was the sensor. Luckily my wife has a nano with the Nike+ attachment. Her nano couldn't see the sensor either. I was about to call Apple when I decided to try one last time. I started the link on her nano then tapped the button on the sensor 3 times very quickly. I then immediately began tapping the sensor on a table. It linked! Tried again on my iPod touch with the same success. I haven't had a chance to go on a run with it yet due to snow, but the sensor is working while I walk around the house.
I'm not sure if the solution was pressing the button 3 times or tapping on a table or both...Or maybe just extreme luck, but I'm glad it finally works. Reminds me of the microwave back in college that you had start by hitting on the side while standing on one foot.
I wonder if it takes multiple button taps on the sensor to wake it. If so, then it would have been nice for that to be included in the instructions. I sure don't remember the last sensor being SO hard to pair.

  • Hi I am having problem connecting my mac and iphone6 through AirDrop

HI I am having problem connecting my mac and iphone6 through Air Drop

You don't give any information about your Mac but note the quote below which states that it must be a 2012 or later model with Yosemite installed. The quote is from Mac Basics: AirDrop lets you send files from your Mac to nearby Macs and iOS devices - Apple Support which also contains some other things that may help.
In order to transfer files between a Mac and and an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch
your iOS device needs to include a lightning connector
your iOS device needs iOS 7 or later installed
your Mac needs to be a 2012 or later model with OS X Yosemite installed
Your Mac and iOS device both need bluetooth and Wi-Fi turned on. You do not have to be connected to a specific Wi-Fi network.

  • I have a problem updating the new ipod touch 5th generation

I have a problem updating the new ipod touch 5th generation and I need help:
With each attempt I receive the message:
iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode.  You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes.
The iPod only displays a USB cable with an arrow pointing to an iTunes logo.
I receive a "Are you sure..." message with the 2 options, one to Restore and Update and the other to Cancel.
Each time I have selected the Restore and Update button and then moved through the acceptance screens.  Then iTunes begins to download the iOS 6.0.1 Software Update, which usually takes about 50 minutes.  During the download I will receive messages that an iPod has been found in restore mode.
After the download is complete no update occurs to the iPod and iTunes displays the Device Summary screen showing derive Name as iPod and all other items as n/a.
The iPod was working great without any known issues prior to attempting to update the OS.

    Maybe:
iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
Unable to contact the iOS software update server gs.apple.com
Error 1004, 1013, 1638, 3194: These errors may be the result of the connection to gs.apple.com being redirected or blocked. Follow these steps to resolve these errors:
Install the latest version of iTunes.
Check security software. Ensure that communication to gs.apple.com is allowed. Follow this article for assistance with security software. iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting security software issues.
Check the hosts file. The restore will fail if there is an active entry to redirect gs.apple.com. Follow iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting to edit the hosts file or revert to a default hosts file. See section "Blocked by configuration: (Mac OS X/Windows) > Rebuild network information".
Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.
If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.

  • Both my iPod touch and wife's iPad2 updated to iOS 6 and now no network

Both my iPod touch and wife's iPad2 updated to iOS 6.
They both say they are connected to the wireles, but Safari and all Internet apps say there is not internet connection.
Both our MacBooks connect fine to the Internet.
I assume there will be an iOS6.1 to fix this soon.

is there a solution to The Problem iTunes 10.7 - ICU 3.5 ?
