Problems connecting to Desktop mgr
I currently have OS 4.5 and am trying to sync with Desktop Mgr 4.3. When trying to use the Roxio media manager, it will show me the device and the folders underneath the device. It also shows the media card, however, it doesnt have any folders underneath the media card, so therefore, it is not allowing me to upload any pics or videos. I never formatted the media card and if I do it now, ill lose all my pics and videos on it. Any suggestions on how to make the Media manager work?
Check whether your mass storage support in on or off. Options -> Memory -> Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode When Connected.

WRT300N - Problem Connecting With Desktop
I recently reset my HP desktop to the factory default after experiencing a whole slew of technical issues I had neither intention nor time to deal with. As a result of the reset, I lost connectivity to my host computer which runs a WRT300N Wireless Router. This wasn't a suprise, but I then ran into a few more problems in trying to reconnect. The first issue I experienced was that on my client PC, it wouldn't detect the Wireless PCI Card I previously installed before the factory reset. This was a quick fix, as upon opening the tower, I discovered the card had become disconnected. I connected the card and ran the installation CD successfully. Since the installation program contains a service to select the wireless network you wish to connect to, I did so, and followed the on screen directions to reset my computer. Unfortunately, I was still disconnected from the intended wireless network upon opening up Internet Explorer. I ran the Wirless Zero Configuration service on my computer so I could deal with the wireless networks on more familiar ground. I was completely dumbfounded to what I saw there. It detected the wireless network, but it gives all the wrong information about it. The SSID resembles the actual SSID, but it is not the same. Also, it says that the wireless network is unsecured when, in actuality, is it secured with a WEP Key. I am stumped. A PSP and HP laptop have absolutely no problem connecting to this network. The problem seems to soley exist with my HP desktop. Any help at all would be great. Thank you.
Hi,
Have you tried to install latest drivers for the wireless PCI card.
Download those from www.linksys.com/download from a computer already online.
Transfer those drivers to computer with the wireless PCI card, using a flash drive or by burning a disk.
Uninstall the old drivers from desktop, reboot the desktop computer.
Install the new drivers and again reboot the desktop computer.
Now check for available wireless networks and try to connect to wireless network. -
Problems connecting to Desktop
I have a 9700 (v5.0.0.586) and I run Windows 7 (64-bit)
Desktop Manager has the following heading at the top of the screen:
Disconnected - BlackBerry Desktop Manager
It has an info window that says "Before you begin, verify that your current BlackBerry device is connected to your computer"
Windows appears to see the device as in the BlackBerry device manager properties I can see that USB-Blackberry 9700 is connected.
I cannot get DM to see the phone - can anyone help?Well I can attest 100% that DTM 5.0.1.37 works with Win7x64-Ultimate. And I know many others who have Win7x64 platforms that run fine with it. So, it is indeed compatible...there must just be some little setting somewhere that is impeding it (always the joy in an open systems architecture).
All I am left with to suggest is a complete start over using the following steps (insert plenty of reboots of your PC...not just restarts, but full power down reboots). Also, it is advised that you be logged into the PC on an account with full admin rights. Further, under Vista/Win7, use the "Run As Administrator" option for everything.
1) Remove your device OS update package from your PC (add/remove programs)
2) Cleanly uninstall the RIM DTM software:
KB02206 How to perform a clean uninstall of BlackBerry Desktop Software
Some have reported that there are more registry keys to remove than are discussed in that KB
Others have reported the use of a registry cleansing tool to also be helpful
3) Get a fresh download of the RIM DTM software:
https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=A8BAA56554F96369AB93E4F3BB068C22
Choose the version that is newest and (if applicable) compatible with your PIM (if you are synchronizing via USB):
KB12268 Applications supported by BlackBerry Desktop Manager for synchronization
4) Download (to your PC) a fresh copy of your device OS package from your carrier:
http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
5) Install DTM to your PC
6) Install (also to your PC), the device OS package
7) Start the organizer configuration over:
KB17022 How to configure organizer applications for synchronization using BlackBerry Desktop Manager
Hopefully that will get things going again.
Good luck and let us know!

Problems connecting to desktop software
Your carrier: Vodafone UK
Model info and OS version: 8110 v4.5.0.180
File free before battery remove/replace: 12595211
Did a battery pull fix your issue? No
Apps installed and their version if possible: Facebook, MapMyRun
BT device model/version: None connected
Details
Windows 7 64 bit, current fixpack
Blackberry Desktop 7.1.0.41
Windows recognises the device. Drivers are up to date and I have chnaged USB power management settings as outlined in the knowledgebase, disabled selective suspend plus set software to run as an administrator. I have tried different USB cables and all three ports
After lots of tries (including starting with the battery out) I have managed to connect once today (not sure how), and it took almost an hour to transfer 2 35MB files to the newly encrypted media card - painful. After that it didn't want to play any more!
When I connect now I am prompted for a password, and either a backup is attempted, which I can't cancel, or it sits in the "connecting" forever.
Any clues?Hi and Welcome to the Community!
I suggest this thread:
http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/Desktop-Software-for-PC/Cleanly-quot-Starting-Over-quot-with-...
It starts with a process for cleanly starting over, and there is some discussion, and there is also a post (15) with links to older Desktop Software versions, if those are needed. Note that this is not, by any means, guaranteed to work...but it has worked for many to resolve issues they are having.
Good luck!

Desktop Mgr 5 not compatible w/ BB OS 6?
Hello,
Wondering if there's known issue with BB's running OS 6 being incompatible with Desktop Mgr v. 5 (5.0.0.11).
We've run into this on multiple computers running Desktop Mgr v. 5, where when a BB running OS 6 is connected, the Desktop Mgr crashes.
I can connect a BB up running OS 5 and have no issues, but once I upgrade that same BB to OS 6 Desktop Mgr will crash - once Desktop Mgr recognizes the device, it freezes, then I get the pop up giving me the option to send an error report. Regardless of if I send/don't send the report, Desktop Mgr then closes. If I relaunch, it does the same thing.
I've reinstalled Desktop Mgr v. 5 but get the same result.
I don't have this issue with Desktop Mgr v. 6, but problem is is that we have a number of laptops out there with Desktop Mgr v. 5 along with BB devices on OS 6, that I won't be able to get to in a timely manner.
Is this a known issue, and might there be some sort of patch/fix we can implement to resolve?

BB 8900 wont connect to Desktop Manager
Hey guys. My BB 8900 wont connect to desktop manager on my Mac. This seems strange to me, as my bold 2 connects fine. Here is the problem:
- Connect BB, desktop Manager asks for device password
- Enter Password
- Device Manager says "connecting"
- Then it stops trying to connect
Any idea what could cause this?
BTW - mass storage mode is on
Thanks in advance!Hey i tried removing battery but that didn't help

Problems Connecting Device To Desktop Manager and Apploader.exe
Just got a new BB8900 last Friday. On Monday, I encountered a Reload Software: 552 error code and after checking online forums for options on how to fix I ultimately had to reinstall the operating system and reinstall new apps that weren't archived by the reinstall process. Because I feared getting this error again whenever I rebooted the device, I immediately made backups every hour as I was reconfiguring the device and adding back my apps.
Today I was going to do another backup for good measure and once I connected my Blackberry to the computer with Desktop Manager running, Desktop Manager crashed and gave me the following error:
Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: DesktopMgr.exe
Application Version: 5.0.0.11
Application Timestamp: 4a4bd539
Fault Module Name: DesktopMgr.exe
Fault Module Version: 5.0.0.11
Fault Module Timestamp: 4a4bd539
Exception Code: c0000005
Exception Offset: 000d68f5
OS Version: 6.0.6001.2.1.0.768.3
Locale ID: 1033
Additional Information 1: c4a7
Additional Information 2: 473b2e845affd1758ca8e66121386d63
Additional Information 3: 83e8
Additional Information 4: 72466a8a5092651f7fe609f9ec3f3489
I then tried the APPLOADER.EXE program locating in program files/common files/research in motion/apploader. I had used this program yesterday to try to delete applications 1 by 1 with the hope that one application was causing the 552 error. Now for some reason this program also is having a problem noting the following in the error log file:
Read from location 1010fffc caused an access violation.
I've looked through multiple forums and haven't found a solution. What I can tell you is this:
1) The phone is working fine but I fear rebooting the phone and getting another 552 error (there were two apps deleted that will be fully deleted on reboot). Would hope everything is fine but I've had two of these 552 errors within 24 and the second one came without any warning. If I get this error there is no way to get to my backup since I can't connect to DM without it crashing.
2) It doesn't appear to be a sync issue but I deleted the Intellisync folder anyway and it didn't fix the problem.
3) Have rebooted my machine with no change to problem.
4) Have reinstalled DM Version 5 (this time without the Roxio Media software) with no change to problem.
5) Because I now get an error when connecting to DM and trying to run apploader.exe, there appears to be a setting on my phone that might be causing the problems (I have no idea what it may be but the APPLOADER program notes a location violation so maybe the Blackberry software is confused about where to find my Apps?)
6) The BlackBerry device manager works fine and notes my device and applicable serial number.
After my last backup yesterday I probably only installed 3-4 other apps that I had lost and organized/moved folders around on the phone. So getting this problem so soon after everything was working fine is mindboggling.
Solved!
Go to Solution.Another Update: I seemed to have found the problem. While RIM support recommended I do a device wipe I pushed back since the rest of the phone functionality seemed to work fine. I opted to begin removing applications from the phone one by one and then trying to connect to Desktop Manager.
Once I removed the ZDNet Tech News For IT Professionals and rebooted the phone, I was able to connect and do a backup. I'm sure this app works fine for almost everyone else, but for some unknown reason (maybe it conflicts with another app on my phone), Desktop Manager did not like it and shut down. I initially reinstalled it again and was able to do another backup but an hour later Desktop Manager shut down again (perhaps in doing an update on news it creates a conflict with Desktop Manager).
Anyways summary of learnings since my issue seemed to be somewhat uniqueCurve 8900)
1) If Desktop Manager shuts down and you've tried other solutions on forums such as deleting the Intellisync folder and reinstalling Desktop Manager, try deleting applications 1 by 1 and rebooting the phone before trying to connect again to Desktop Manager.
2) If you have had this problem, do frequent backups and keep track of what you add to your phone so in case there's a problem you know the most recent apps to remove (in my case I couldn't get to my latest backup since DM would shut down with the app conflict).
3) Only consider a device wipe if you have exhausted your apps removal testing. Apps which came on your phone which note the vendor in the About section of the app as RIM should be fine. Also while apps on AppWorld are being offered by BlackBerry there is no certainty that they will work on your phone. -
8830 Calendar Synch Issue/Vista 2007/Desktop Mgr v5.0.1
I use Vista 2007; I have 5 e-mail accounts on my 8830 - none are linked to Microsoft Outlook. Somehow, my calendar on Outlook is using an e-mail address that is not the set default on the 8830 to synch (I had to list one e-mail as a default on the 8830's General Options) and so when I open an appt. syched from Outlook on the 8830 it shows the secondary address and I can't change it to the set default. When I create a calendar entry on the 8830, it shows the default e-mail but then it doesn't synch to the Outlook (unless I list the secondary e-mail). I have not been able to figure out how to fix this. Whenever I synch to Desktop Mgr v5.0.1 it synchs off of the secondary e-mail address. Any ideas on how to fix this? I've had this unit for years and this is the first major issue I've encountered. This has not affected my notes/tasks/contacts/memo sections, which is a good thing. Thank you!
Solved!
Go to Solution. My unit is fixed - here's how we did it (thanks Verizon):
1. Back up data via Blackberry Desktop Manager
2. Under Options, Advanced Options, Default Services: Delete all the e-mail associated Calendars (CICM extensions, if I recall correctly). I only used Microsoft Outlook - not connected with an e-mail so this was just getting rid of the non-use calendars.
3. Wipe 8830
4. Restore the 8830 using the back up data file via Desktop Manager (note, this created duplicate entries again, because the unit took out the associated e-mails on the entries, and thus now I had one Outlook calendar on the 8830 with merged/duplicated entries from before - everything else synched fine).
5. On Desktop Manager, go to Back-Up/Restore Advanced options, and move the Calendar-ALL database over to the left hand side box called FILE (to create a back up file just for that)
6. On the right hand side, clear the Calendar-ALL database (the one from the 8830)
6. Go back to Synchronization, then set calendar synchronization this first time to go from Outlook-Device (change to dual synch later).
5. I did a full/regular synch and that solved the problem. -

Can you drag windows to the other display?
In the "Arrangement" tab of "Displays" system preference, you can drag the display pictures to match the actual arrangement, drag the menu bar to the other display, or enable mirroring. -
Not sure that I have selected the correct forum. Hope my questions are clearly stated.
Having problems connecting iMac(late 2006) running 10.7.5 to a Samsung Flat Screen TV using separate audio/speaker cable and HDMI standard cable, mini-DVI to HDMI video converter. TV displays generic Apple galaxy background and "some" windows (e.g. screen resolution choices). It does not show Mail or Safari menus. System preferences' display "gathered" the Samsung and chose its resolution. I did not find a way to select the Samsung as my display.
In addition to having old hardware, we have Verizon FIOS providing internet and TV access. Is there any way to make this work for us? We would like to stream video (Netflix) and view shows from the Web. Do we need Apple TV to do this? Or is it not possible with our old iMac? My husband thinks that our Airport could be a factor.
Thank youLately, I have been seeing a lot of posts with users trying to use their Macs/iMacs to mirror their streaming video from their Macs to an HDTV.
There are, actually, many alternatives to choose from than just from a Mac.
You need to have or invest in a WiFi capable router for all of these examples.
Apple TV only integrates with WiFi and newer Mac hardware. So, if you want to have total integrated experience, if you have a 2011 Mac or newer, you might as well pay the $100 for the AppleTV box.
If you have a older Mac, like I have noticed many users do, then you have other options.
If you want to elimate long cable clutter and having your Mac at the mercy of your TV all of the time, you can still use the AppleTV box independently or purchase cheaper alternative media streaming boxes from Roku, Sony, Boxee or any number of electronics manufacturers that now have media streaming boxes and media streaming capability built into DVD/Blu-ray players.
These eliminate long cable clutter by being close to the HDTV where shorter, less expensive cables can be used.
Another alternative for iPad users is to use an iPad with the USB/HDMI video adapter and use your iPad as the streaming box. This ties up your iPad in much the same way as it does with your Mac, but again the iPad can be close to the TV and use minimal cables to the TV.
Another alternative to is to use a combination of an iPad and your Mac to stream content that is only available to stream online from a computer. In this case, you can use a desktop remote app on your iPad and Mac. A good and cheap Desktop Remote app is Splashtop Remote. This allows you to completely connect your iPad remotely, over Wifi, to your iMac desktop. The app streams both video and sound to the iPad which is still connected to your HDTV. The resultant stream video picture will be smaller than the size of your HDTV, but it will still be plenty large enough to watch. Again, if you own a iPad and an Intel Mac, this method also allows minimal cabling to the TV. -
Help! - Can't sinc Outlook Calendar after upgrading to Desktop Mgr 4.7
My 8830 World Edition was syncing perfectly to Outlook Calendar 2007 while I was using Desktop Manager 4.2.2.14 on my Vista laptop. However, I downloaded the current version of Desktop Manager, 4.7, and now can not sync to calendar. Now when I try to sync (either using bluetooth or usb) all seems to be going well until it gets to "Processing Device Calendar". I then get an error that that says that DM has stopped working and that Windows will close the program. Even after the program closes, the screen on my 8830 still shows that it is connected to Desktop. The only way I get control of my phone again is to go into Windows Taks Manager, under Processes, and manually end RIMDeviceManager.exe .
Any thoughts on how to solve this problem? Thanks. I finally uninstalled 4.7 completely from my computer and then downloaded it again. It also updated the software on the 8830 (version 4.5.0.135) This time it did worked. I am now able to sync sucessfully. That's the good news.
The bad news, however, is that I have lost the ability to connect to various sites via the Blackberry launcher links that I had on my phone (ESPN, NBC Sports, CNN and Fox Business). The browser connects fine to the internet so I used that to access ESPN. From there I redownloaded the app for direct connection but it still doesn't work. ugh! -
"problem connecting to server" when trying to access local disk
Recently (perhaps since I upgraded to Yosemite), the first time I try access one of my two hard drives through Finder I get two pop-up windows with error "there was a problem connecting to server". When I dismiss the pop-ups, the Finder window appears OK. I then don't get these errors for some time and then I get them again - and always two errors.
It seems the access request goes through NAS which fails ...
"NetAuthSysAgent[11958]: ERROR: AFP_GetServerInfo - connect failed 62"
and "NetAuthSysAgent[11958]: GetStatus: connecting to self not allowed"
but then it gets actioned as a local access. Can anyone think of why NAS gets involved? And mainly how to get rid of it :^).
There is nothing in login items that mounts either of the disks as a server. Is there a way to find out if a local disk is mounted as a server and who caused it?Many thanks, I am impressed by the process :^)

Problems Connecting iPod Touch 32GB to WiFi
Hi,
I have just purchased an iPod Touch 32GB and am having problems connecting to a server. I am using a Netgear DG834 router to connect to Orange. Netgear is now showing as checked on the Wi-Fi Networks page on the iPod with strong signal strength but I keep cannoy getting the message "could not connect to server" whenever I try any of the applications. Needless to say, the internet connections on my laptop and desktop are working perfectly. Thanks. GrantHave you tried resetting your router? sometimes this is all you need to do to get the IPT to work properly. If you are using any type of security such as WEP or WPA2 then you are going to need to enter your password. Try a reset and then go to your wifi settings in the IPT and select your router and then click on the little blue arrow and check under DHCP and make sure you have an IP along with a router Ip and DNS entries. If you don't have a router IP or DNS entries try and renew the lease.
If you can't get it to work then reset the router again but this time try it without any security and do the same procedure as above. If that still doesn't work then the only other thing I can suggest is to look on Netgears website and see if there is a firmware upgrade for your router and to give that a try. -
When my screensaver starts, it gives me an error there was a problem connecting to server
It seems like I'm having a problem with iPhoto. Whenever my screensaver comes on, it just sits on "Loading Photos" and then when I move the cursor to get out of the screensaver, I get a warning saying "There was a problem connecting to server XXX"
I don't know why it's trying to connect to this server. I have googled and searched and tried everything that everyone has said (renaming/deleting plists, removing all login items, clearing iPhoto and trying to start over...) but nothing has helped.
This error also comes up pretty consistantly when iPhoto is open.
I'm not really sure what else to check. I can't find any trace of the remote server, so I'm not sure why this is coming up.
I'm running Mountain Lion and whatever the latest version of iPhoto is.
Any thoughts?I was able to get it. Apparently there was some old photo in my iPhoto library that was being mapped out to the server that it kept trying to connect to.
Which should have been relatively easy to detect, except the way that iPhoto is setup, there was no real way to find the source for each photo.
What I was able to do to was, under photos, CMD-A to select all photos and then try and move them to an album. It popped up with a notice saying that it wasn't able to find XXXXX.jpg and I had the option to cancel or find the photo. So I renamed another photo on my desktop to XXXXX.jpg, and when the error came up, I selected Find and then used the copy on my desktop to replace it.
After I did that, it let me add all of the photos to an album and I was able to launch the screensaver successfully.
A pretty big pain in the but that would have been easier to resolve if the UI of iPhoto was a little more detailed or customizable. But oh well it worked for me.
Hopefully this helps. -
There was a problem connecting to the server (...)
Hello, all. First time posting here, so I'd like to greet the community.
I've been having this small problem for some months and never managed to fix it. I've searched the forums countless times and found many discussions related to the same message, but with different causes and solutions. None of them applied to my case.
Every time I open Mail preferences, my system freezes for a few seconds and a message pops up stating "There was a problem connecting to the server (...)":
I believe this has to do with the fact that, when I first bought my MacBook, I added a custom sound on the New Messages Sound preference that was stored on a hard-drive connected to my home network. Eventualy, I did copy said sound file to my MacBook and selected it as my custom sound for new mails, removing the previous one from my list of custom sounds. Still, once I disconected this hard-drive from my home network, I started receiving the mentioned message. It must still be searching for the sound file that was stored on the server, regardless of the fact that it's no longer selected as my new messages sound or added as a custom sound.
What's annoying about this is the fact that, ever since then, every time I receive a new email, the sound plays long after the notification alert pops up. Not really a serious issue, but I'd like to know how to solve it.
Many thanks in advance! Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folders. In OS X 10.9 there are two sandboxes, while in 10.8 there is only one. If you're running a version older than 10.8, this comment isn't applicable.
Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Log out and log back in. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Repeat with this line:
~/Library/Containers/com.apple.MailServiceAgent
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
