Problems Connecting to My Router

Hi there
On both my Macbook and iMac, I am unable to connect to my Netgear router. It's a DG834PN, and I am running Leopard. I can connect after several tries, but it keeps saying "Timed Out" when I try and connect. But if you do it over and over again it will eventually connect. My Network has no encryption on it, as I thought this might have caused the problem. The SSID is also visible. Does anybody have any idea what the problem might be here?
Thanks
Jack

You need to go into the wireless settings, and remove the BT WiFi or you can move it down further in the list and put the router that you just added in a higher priority in the list so it will try to connect to that one first before connecting to the BT.  Go to Settings > Network, and in there at the bottom of the window on the right hand side, there is an "Advanced" button.  When you click on that, it will give you the preferred list of networks, you can click on the BT network and click the minus button which will remove it.  Otherwise you can click and drag them in the order that you want your computer to connect to them.

  • Problem connecting wirelessly to router

I am having problems connecting to a router. I know it works because another computer can connect, no problem. It requests a WPA-2 password and the other computer enters an 8-digit code and they connect, no problem. My MacAir reconizes the network (router) but won't accept the same code the other laptop sitting next to me is able to use. The laptop that can get in asked for a "security key." The Mac asks for a password. Not sure if the nuance makes a difference. Has anyone else had issues like this?

    Welcome to Apple DIscussions.
This could be a problem with the router settings as much, or more, than the security settings.  Follow the link if you own/have access to the router setup software.
Help us help you. The more complete the description of your problem is (what MBA you're using - there are many versions going back to '08, what OS you're using -there's a lot of those too, what Application you're using there are many, a full compete description, the text or screen shot of any error messages) the more assistance we can provide, and, the sooner we can provide it.
WFIW many users who have recently upgraded to Mavericks have reported a lot of WIFI problems... connecting, and maintianing connectios are among them, that's why the age and OS of your machine are pertient bits of background that can help find a solution to  your issue.

  • Help me plz problem connecting to my router

I am tryin to access my router but it does not connect to it all all. My modem is connected to my WRH54g router and internet is working fine. but i cannot access my router trough the 192.168.1.1 site. I can only access my modem and not my browser. I need help for know why I can't access my router.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Based on what you are provided are you sure your Cable Modem is plugged in to the "INTERNET" port on your router?  It appears as though you have it plugged into a regular switch port and are still getting DHCP from your ISP.

  • Having problems connecting wireless?

    Hi All,
I just got my MACBOOK two days ago and having some issues connecting wireless.. I can connect to my LINKSYS wireless router but it seems after about 7 mins of use I can no longer connect to the router. I have reset the router and even changed it but I still seem to have the same issue.
If I use only PC's on my wireless network I don't have any issues.. It seems like the MAC messes up my network and it will not work again unless I take the power out of the router and then modem.
I have used my comp at a friends house connecting to their linksys router without any issues.
    ANY IDEAS?
    THANKS

If you have no problems connecting wirelessly on another network, then I'd look at your router as the probably culprit. Do you have any problems connecting to the router by Ethernet cable? Are your Network preferences configured properly? Have there been any firmware updates released for your router that you have not installed? Have you tried a different router in your home network? For example, try a D-Link DI-524. I've had good success with it. I've never had a really satisfactory experience with LinkSys, but that's my personal experience.

Do a factory reset .. nothing will be deleted from your backups and you will be able to get access to them again.
    The Factory Reset Gen1-4.
Unplug your TC. Hold in reset. and power the TC back on.. without releasing reset for about 10sec. When the status light flashes rapidly; release it.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.

  • My iPad2 no longer connects to my home wifi network but there is no problem connecting to other saved wifi networks. Currently using iOS8.0.2. with storage capacity of 12.2Gb but only 147Mb free. Disconnecting the router and rebooting the iPad worked

My iPad2 no longer connects to my home wifi network but there is no problem connecting to other saved wifi networks. Currently using iOS8.0.2. with storage capacity of 12.2Gb but only 147Mb free. Disconnecting the router and rebooting the iPad worked briefly as a temporary fix but not anymore

    You could try this
Temporarily disable security on your home network
    See if the iPad connects
If it does then reset the security - with the same or different password

Problem connecting wirelessly from iMac to NETGEAR router, get invalid password message with WPA and WPA-2 encryption in place but if I remove them, so no security, can connect without a problem. Help!!

Thank you for your suggestion but I have already had a couple of phone sessions with NETGEAR support and they don't see any problems with the router settings etc. They referred me to Apple support, who helped me discover that it is possible to communicate with the router but only if I turn off the encryption/security software, which I don't want to do. The frustrating thing is that I can connect wirelessly from a laptop running Windows 7 and two Anroid smart phones, with WPA-2 in place, without a problem. Do you have any other ideas?

Does the iOS device connect to other networks?
Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
    Could it be this:
iOS: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings grayed out or dim
One user reported that placing the iPod in the freezer fixed the problem. A trick that works frequently with iPhones:
Settings > AirPlane Mode ON, Do Not Disturb ON
Power down and wait 5-10 minutes
    Power up
Settings > AirPlane Mode OFF, Do Not Disturb OFF
If not successful, an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is usually in order.

  • There was a problem connecting to the server "router"

I just recently purchase AirPort Extreme and i have connected my External hard drive to my AirPort Extreme. when I open my MacBook Pro, I am getting this message "There was a problem connecting to the server "router". Also it says The server may not exists or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, Check your network connection and than try again. How can i prevent this message to pop up on my desktop? Please assist?

I am also experiencing this problem. I do not own an airport, but I do have an external hard drive that I plug in on occassion to update my Time Machine backups. The message does not seem to have a routine or pattern and will sometimes immediately return after I acknowledge it or will return after 30 minutes. I own a Macbook Pro 13" 2011 model.

    try this.
get back into your router's settings and start deleting devices that are not connected to your router.
you can also delete the ones that are connected - they'll connect again.
on the DHCP side of it, increase the amount of users that can connect/log in to your router.
see if that sorts it out for you.
    good luck.

  • Problem connecting Verizon router M1424WR to desktop Mac

I recently opted to purchase the $99 router that Verizon has been advertising but have been unsuccessful in establishing a connection. None of the LAN ethernet lights turn on when the ethernet cable is appropriately attached. I spent a good 90 minutes on the phone yesterday with a most conscientious Verizon support person, but we ultimately could not solve the problem. My son's Mac laptop, when connected to this router by ethernet cable, works just fine. The Verizon support person suspected that there is something related to the DHCP lease on the desktop Mac that is not resolved with the automatic setting. She also advised me that they are not trained on Mac, so there might not be any further resolution they could offer. I would be grateful for any insight out there!!

I'm not familiar with MACs but the following link may help.

  • Problem connecting Nokia C3 to home wireless route...

    Good day, Nokia!
I recently bought a Nokia C3-00 WiFi phone but I can't seem to browse my home wireless connection with it. The phone can detect and connect with the wireless network successfully but when I open my mobile browser, it can't load websites, saying "Service not available."
However, I can connect and browse the internet through other WiFi hotspots, just not my home connection. The router I'm using is LP-8616. It's an AP router, if that helps. Unfortunately, there's no firmware upgrade for this router anymore.
I've read all the threads about this problem here and all over the internet but still nothing works for me. Hope you or somebody here could help me to finally solve this problem. More Power!

Allsolution from another post, see /t5/Cseries/C3-wifi-problem-connect-to-wlan-but-internet-not-work/m-p/950115#M14517. Found out how to solve the problem of connecting via WLAN in the following way (the phone was able to connect to the Internet only through the GSM provider network):
Step 1: Menu> Settings> Configuration> Personal Settings> Add> Web or Streaming or any other (Just add, needs no other settings)
Step 2: Menu> Settings> Configuration> Default config. settings (choose MyWeb, Personal Settings or the name created at step 1)
Step 3: Menu> Settings> Configuration> Personal settings (delete the field created in step 1) then go to Menu> Settings> Configuration> Preferred access point (choose one of the available options)
Now you can open your browser and try to connect. It should ask what method you choose (WLAN or Access Point Preferred)
If your phone does not want to be connected via the GSM provider network, the user can manually enter settings for defining an Access Point (Step 4)
Step 4: Menu> Settings> Configuration> Personal Settings> Add> Access Point (check with GSM provider for account settings)
Step 5: Menu> Settings> Configuration> Preferred access point (select the field you created earlier)
I know that what I wrote above may seem like science fiction for a user who is not accustomed to butoneasca phone and non-stop, but I assure you that the operation should take no longer than 5 minutes.

  • Problem connecting my 8900 to router

    Hi all,
I've had the 8900 for a couple of months now and had it working without a hitch at home. I connected it to the router and would be on UMA which is great because I don't have any network coverage in my house for some unknown reason, which is why it's so important to me.
This morning I had to unplug my router (BT Homehub 2.0) as we're having some painting done, which I now regret as my phone isn't connecting properly. The internet is connected to the computer no problem through a cable but now I'm having serious bother with connecting the phone wirelessly.
I have done umpteen battery pulls, router resets, deleting saved connections and searching for them afresh but the best I've managed to do is connect to the hub (with the Wi-Fi network name showing on my screen), but the Wi-Fi button staying greyed out, which means it won't switch to UMA.
Under Diagnostics I get a green tick next UMA Wi-Fi Available but a red cross next to Connection, with the error code saying "Status: ISP error, DNS server cannot be reached." Furthermore, the connection seems to drop
I don't think it's an ISP fault as the net is working fine on my PC, alas I have no other wireless device to test on it.
I'm trying to find out if it's an IP problem but I can't see any option to manually enter an address with a direct IP. Instead it asks for my SSiD which I've put in a few times already.
Really frustrating and my network can't help me. They just gave me a direct number to RIM and they want to charge me for their help.
    Any suggestions please?

Do you have your router set to hide it's SSID?? I have found that my BB 8900 can't connect to any router that is hidden. I hope this helps or at least points you in a direction.

  • This past month I have been having problems connecting to my home wireless connection. Previously I had no problems whatsoever. I have tried unplugging the wireless router, turning off the wirless airport, deleting the network name from my list of server

This past month I have been having problems connecting to my home wireless connection. I have a MacBook Pro OSX Version 10.6.8. Previously I had no problems whatsoever. I have tried unplugging the wireless router, turning off the wirless airport, deleting the network name from my list of servers and trying to reconnect this way. These methods have worked temporarily, but the same problem keeps coming back. Most of the time my personal wireless connection does not even come up among the list of available networks. My fellow flatmates have PCs and both of them are able to connect to the network without problem.
The router is a d-link model DIR-615. I am not tech savy, so if any other information need to be provided in order to better understand my situation, please let me know.
    Please help me!

If I open the list of networks in a window it says "connection timeout," but if I just select it from the drop down it tries for awhile and then stops with no prompt. When I try to run network diagnostics it says "sorry, we can't connect to the internet" (or some solution-free variation of that)
