Problems converting analog - not threaded error

I am taking a 8mmvideo from an old Sony camcorder, passing it thru a Sony digital recorder and capturing the video/audio into Final Cut Express. I have done this with iMovie but never tried with FCE.
The connections are fine but I am getting a "Not Threaded" error on the capture window. According to the manual, the tape is missing from the Sony digital camera (which is true). The digital camera manual says to remove the tape in order to do the pass thru. I can't get it to work either way. When I try to play (without the tape) I get a "no VTR" error.
My 1st question is - does anyone know if I need to have a tape (blank one) in the digital camcorder or not? If I need a tape, doesn't it have to be as long as the one on the old camcorder? Will it record there while I capture in FCE? Then, will I have to erase it to re-record another tape?
I've gotten as far as seeing the video play in the capture window but when I hit play, nothing happens (except getting the VTR error).

I haven't actually daisy chained two cams like this but I know it should work.
Make sure you have all your connections properly set ... all the Ins and Outs set properly.
Have both cams set to VTR and turned on before you launch FCE
In FCE choose an Easy Setup of DV Converter. Use Capture Now rather than Capture Clip. Play from the 8mm. Then click Capture Now and to stop, press Esc. Make sure you have Capture Now set long enuff to handle the tape (for instance, one hour)

Since video chat works between my son's computer and my husband's, I doubt that it is our cable company or my son's. My son can also video chat with friends in his area. They are using msn or aim. However I have not been able to establish a connection using ichat.
If there are no other fixes, then I will probably have to call Apple tomorrow for a return on the isight that I just purchased. Too bad, because the Los Angeles Times this morning said that iChatAV image quality is superior to even Skype's new product 2.0 for Windows. At this time Skype does not have a cross platform product. Is that the problem with iChatAV, it really only works with other Macs?
Please advise if there is anything else that I can do to correct the problem. I have used an apple computer for more than 20 years, since the first little Apple IIc that I had. This is the first thing that I haven't been able to figure out.

Normally implies the ports are not open some where.
The bit I have changed to Bold is not specific enough

Can you tell us exactly which ports you have opened and which protocols. APple Doc 93208 is Wrong.
1. All iChat AV traffic is UDP except for ports 5190 and 5298, which need to be open for both TCP and UDP; and 5220, 5222, and 16384-16403, which need to be open for TCP only.
You have not siad what ports you have opened and by what method in your modem ?

Reading .txt file into char array, file not found error. (Basic IO)

Iv been having some trouble with reading characters from a text file into a char array. I havnt been learning io for very long but i think im getting the hang of it. Reading and writing raw bytes
and things like that. But i wanted to try using java.io.FileReader to read characters for a change and im having problems with file not found errors. here is the code.

The text file is saved in the projects dist folder. I have tried saving it elsewhere and get the same error with a different pathname.

Well the file clearly isn't there. Maybe it has a .txt.txt extensionthat Windows is kindly hiding from you - check its Properties.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble converting files. Are you receiving the conversion error regardless of the file that you try to convert? Does the error occur whether you use the web interface, or convert via Reader? And an odd question: how many files do you have stored in your Acrobat.com account? We have seen reports of this error when there are a large number of files stored in the root folder of your Acrobat.com account.

I reinstalled ilife 11, but it was not successful.

Are you trying to reduce the file size with the "Reduced size PDF" in the save as other option.
Give it a try if you haven't done it prior.
Open that PDF>File>Save as Other>Reduced size PDF.
If possible ,please share the snapshot of the error message with us so that we can have a look in order to assist you further.

"Not Found" Error Message Problem

Hi All!
I have a really weird issue happening that I have not found a post for in the boards, although there are some similar ones. I have a video project that I had been working on about a month ago and finished except for credits (I had no problems while working on it then). I finally just got the list of names to use for the credits, so I went to open the project to add the credits and I got a "Not Found" and "Out Of Memory" Message. I have 134.6 Gigs open on the Raid I save everything to, so I know I'm not actually out of memory. So I changed the settings to 80% Application and 50% Stills b/c I have around 10 jpegs I was using for titles in it. That seemed to help at least get the sequence opened. I then had media offline messages for those titles, eventhough they are in the browser and defined as online, so I just reconnected each one individually anyway. That helped with that problem. However, I FCP won't render the transitions around the titles. I deleted the transitions and titles and tried to re-render the video clips that were involved in the transitions with the titles. It won't render those. When I try to view the clips in the viewer, I get the "Not Found" message again. I reconnected a couple of the video clips individually, but I still get the message when I try to view them in the Viewer. The clips in the sequence are there and play in the canvas but not in the viewer and I get the "Not Found" message. I have it set to view the image without wireframes, so that's not the problem. The source videos are read as online in the browser and are in the same place as they were when I originally started the project, so that's not the problem. I've tried different variations on the memory usage. I've tried copying and pasting to a new sequence but get the same problem. Does anyone know why all of a sudden I can't view any of my source video and the clips I used in my sequence in the viewer and why it would give me the "Not Found" error message?

They were originally on a PC. That quite possibly could be it.
I just checked all the titles again and they are all RGB.
Our Raid ocassionally has problems, so I'm thinking it might have something to do with that.
I'm going to try on Monday to just re-import the videos I need into the project and see how that goes. If anyone has any suggestions, I'll take a look on Monday and see what happens.
I was just hoping that someone might have had this problem and knew what to do.

I'm sorry to hear your conversion process has stalled. It sounds as though the problem isn't specific to one file, as you've been unable to convert anything since the first four chapters converted successfully.
So, let's try this:
If you're converting via the ExportPDF website, please log out, clear the browser cache, and then log back in. If you're using Reader, please choose Help > Check for Updates to make sure that you have the most current version installed.

Yes, uninstalling iCloud will allow you to create new projects.
For legacy projects, you can repair them with a patch created by a user.
