Problems converting MS Publisher to PDF - Is it possible?

I have created a draft of a family reunion newsletter that is a large  document. I thought that if I save as a PDF I would be able to send via  email to my siblings for their review and comments prior to finalizing  and printing to send to family members.
I also thought that if I  saved it as a PDF, I could email the final version to family members who  possess computers. Thus, conserving energy, trees, money, etc. ;-)
However,  when I upload the document (MS Publisher), the frames do not remain  stable and the document does not look like my original. Adobe Acrobat  does not seem to have a problem with the fonts that I am using, so maybe  it doesn't accept MS Publisher documents for conversion or the  images/graphics are too large.
I am at a lost. I really need  your help.

Hi Judy,
Still not clear on what version of Acrobat you are using.
Just a loose thought (get a lot of those...).
Perhaps you could break out 'topics' into 4 to 6 page Publisher files.
While doing so, look to optimize any images/graphics.
That is to say, the main "deliverable" is online/on a local machine.
So, images do not need to be more than 72 to, say, 96 ppi.
For those who want "photopaper" calibre images, consider anyone of the online services that host full resolution photos.
Folks can print from there or use a photo print service that many of the hosting services are hooked up with.
Back to the 'topic" Publisher files.
If smaller, optimized files yield PDFs with no significant issues then get them all into PDF.
The 'topic' PDFs provide a foundation for providing several PDF deliverables.
If you have Acrobat 9 Pro -
For those with Adobe Reader/Acrobat 9.x consider a Portfolio.
For those with earlier versions, combine the 'topic' PDFs into a single PDF.
If you have Acrobat 8 Pro -
You can create PDF "Packages"
Output can be placed at acrobat.com.
From there you can share (via a link).
As to commenting - place your "masters" in their own directory.
Make a copy of this directory.
Process the PDFs in this copy for comment & review.
E-mail reviews are handy; but, it may be worth some look-see at acrobat.com help to learn how to use it for the comment/review 'cycle'.
You might find use of Buzzword helpful and the new addition of workspaces may be useful.
So, for something such as what you are engaged in, acrobat.com may be useful.
Be well...

Acrobat 9 Pro will work in Vista.
Vista's UAC can be a nusiance though.

Note appearance of the Print window will be different on PC although the Controls should roughly be the same.

  • Problems converting MS Publisher 2007 documents to PDF

Hi I have MS Publisher 2007 and create documents using MS Publisher then convert them to PDF without ANY problems - until about 2 months ago. Nothing changed other than the usual updates from Adobe and Microsoft and now I cannot convert ANY files from MS Publisher to PDF - neither through the MS Publisher utility or the Adobe utility. Crazy thing is it is ONLY a problem for MS Publisher - every other Office product prints to PDF fine. I cannot even save to PDF with Publisher - I get the MS error message "Publisher cannot save the file". When I try to create a PDF using Adobe it progresses through the conversion process and acts like it has created the file - but I cannot find it in the location specified and it's nowhere on my PC. There's no error message created by Adobe Acrobat either. We've tried to understand what the problem is and for some reason when I reduce file size UNDER 1MB MS Publisher and Adobe behave and create the PDF! Over 1MB and nothing doing.
It's driving me crazy as we choose to use MS Publisher for all our creative stuff - not because it's cheap but because the interface is more user friendly and I guess we're used to MS products.
    Details:
    MS Publisher - 2007 (12.0.6535.5002) SP2 MSO (12.0.6535.5002)
Part of Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007
    Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro - Version 9.3.4
    Part of Design Suite CS5
I would REALLY appreciate it if someone could PLEASE advise how we can fix this problem.

***** Actually, girls and guys I think I have found the problem!!!!!
It's not just pictures that can cause the "Cannot Save File" message it's also fonts.
We were using Myriad Pro in all our Case Studies and up until a certain date 2 months ago it was great all could be printed and there were no problems. Then for some reason - and I have since discovered the font Myriad Pro has a licensing issue on our PC's - all our Case Study templates were unable to be converted and we were having issues all over the place.
I went through the advice contained in these posts (and also onb the Adobe website) and removed images one by one to see what was actually causing the problem. Nothing, no result the issues still existed. Then I hit upon the idea of changing the font to Arial and BINGO!!! it worked!!!! So, my advice is to ensure that your images are free from errors (whatever that means!) and you're using fonts that have no licensing issues and Publisher will be able to convert them no problems.
Now, as for the advice Microsoft gave us...well I am as frustrated as everyone else is that we had to find the answers ourselves and MS couldn't have developed a tool that would pick up these issues for us in the document itself. C'mon Microsoft you make this great product - make it even better and give us better diagnostic tools please.
Oh and by the way, when I did the same document in InDesign (which was a pain in the a...) it handled the font issue no problems - explain that one Microsoft.

  • I have the same problem, I usually publish to PDF with my Corel Draw x4 and recenlty no file opens all gets the same error, I am so preocupaid because all my work is based in publish to PDF files, I already reinstall all, also Corel, and is doing the same

I have a problem converting Corel Raw file in addobe pdf 11 someone can hlp me i am lousing all my work
    thank you luca

    Good to know -
Adobe Reader cannot create PDF files.
As well, Corel uses "in-house" routines to publish PDF from applications; so, no use or reliance by Corel on anything of Adobe's.
Yes, if you have Acrobat XI Standard or Pro installed you can to the traditional "file - print" and in the print dialog you can select the Adobe PDF virtual printer to print to PDF.
(But not with Adobe Reader as Reader does not provide, in and of itself, any means of creating PDF -- Reader is your PDF viewer.)
From what you have written it appears that you've an issue with your Corel product's featues; so, best is to visit Corel's customer support for the product.

  • Why is Adobe changing my fonts when I convert from publisher to pdf?

I've just started using the pdf conversion plug-in to convert from publisher 2007 to pdf.  The way it was explained to me was that no matter what style of font you use it should be embedded in the file so that when someone opens the file they will read it in exactly the same style as I used to create it.  I am a volunteer for a non-proft org. (my church) and each year we publish a small booklet and sell space to local businesses who contribute to the well-being of my church.  This is the first year I'm using the pdf conversion but when I checked how the ad would look in adobe reader some of the fonts were changed and I can't seem to correct the problem.  It doesn't happen with all the fonts which makes it even stranger.  Anyone got any advice, suggestions, etc.  Thanks.
    Manny

I'm having the same problem and unfortunately, it doesnt matter which software i'm using... Word,
Publisher, and even photoshop.  I have Adobe Acrobat Pro and no matter how I try to convert, i'm still getting the same problem.

  • PROBLEM CONVERTING MSWORD & MSPROJECT TO PDF!

    Hi,
I'm running Vista, Office 2007 (inc. MSProject) and have Acrobat 8 Professional.
I'm having all sorts of problems converting. I don't know whether its someting to do with the pathing, since I first installed on D drive, rather than C. I just copied the entire Adobe folder from D to C.
The program allows me to convert URLs to PDF. But every time I try to convert a Word Doc, or MS Project Document, even small ones, I keep getting error messages, or it just freezes on 10%... Or says it can't do it... I'm getting so frustrated...
And yes I've run the repair, rebooted, but still have same probs...
    Can someone please suggest something!

Do you have the Adobe PDF printer listed in the printers. If so, then print to the Adobe PDF printer (don't use print to file, the printer is set to ask for a file name or create one on the fly).
If you do not have the printer, then that is your problem. The Create PDF button will not work without the printer.
AcroTray is necessary for the printer to complete the process of conversion to a PDF automatically. If it is not active, then you have to print to file and then open the prn file in Distiller to create the PDF. From you statement about the missing PDF files, it likely is that you do not have PDF Maker installed correctly. Try the printer and if that works, then you have a PDF Maker issue.

  • Problem converting word doc into pdf

I've just installed adobe acrobat 6.0 onto my laptop
. Whenever I try to create a pdf file from a word doc it says there is a problem and will have to run in repair mode/ It then goes through the 'retrieving required info' instructs to restart the computer. Once Ihave done that though and retry, it does exactly the same thing.

There is an easy and effective way to convert word to PDF through Microsoft word 2007. You can download Microsoft Save As PDF add-in from Microsoft.com.
Also a newly release one Office 2007 Service Pack 2 (SP2) has built-in the add-in.
    1. Start Microsoft Word 2007
    2. Open a .DOC document and edit
    3. Select from main menu “Office button”->”Save As”
    4. Select “adobe PDF”.
More you can refer this column of PDF Converter, which includes some tutorials about converting PDF to other files.
Glad that you got it working.

  • Problem converting Word Documents into pdf

Hi Folks - and Happy New Year to You!
    I'm using version Adobe 7.0.
I written an e-book and can't get the darn thing to convert into a pdf file. Sometimes it works -- sometimes it doesn't.
I suspect the problem is with my many embedded graphics. I have created Microsoft Powerpoint slides, and have cut and pasted them into my ebook as objects inserted between the paragraphs of text.
When converting from the "Convert to Adobe PDF" button in my Word Toolbar, it gets all the way through and finally has an error at the end saying: "an error occured while creating a temporary file; Word was unable to write some of the embedded objects due to insufficient memory or disk space"
I have Adobe set with a password to protect copying, and the Word file size is around 1Mb.
My computer is only a year old, and I have 23 Gb of free space.
I'm using Windows Professional XP and Word 2002
Please reply asap or email me on [email address deleted by host]
    You Have My Best Regards

    Hi,
I have tried to get this right for a few days now Finally found some info at
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=330729
    See point 2 below.
Creating PDF files by using PDFMaker
You can convert Word files from within either Word or Acrobat. Because both applications use PDFMaker, you can achieve the same results in either application.
To create a PDF file from within Word:
    1. Exit from all applications except Word to minimize processing time. To further minimize processing time, complete the following:
-- If the document contains several fonts, either reduce the number of fonts or replace TrueType fonts with Type 1 fonts.
-- If the document contains large or complex tables, reduce the number of columns and rows.
    2. If the document contains hyperlinks, make sure that the page margins are .8 inch or larger.
    3. To add features such as font embedding and compression to your PDF file, choose Adobe PDF > Change Conversion Settings. (To create customized job options settings with these features, edit the conversion settings. For more information, see "Editing the PDFMaker Conversion Settings" in the Acrobat Help.)
Isn't it totally obvious to anyone that the margins have to be at least 0.8 inches for hyperlinks to work.....
I made a new page format slightly larger and increased the margins. After making the PDF file i trimmed it in Adobe. Worked like a dream...

  • Acrobat 9 Pro - Problems converting word 2003 to pdf

When I print word to pdf, the resulting pdf document has missing text and paragraphs.  The only way I seem to be able to fix this is to uninstall and reinstall the original software.  It is driving me mad.  I have done this about 20 times now.
    Can any one PLEASE help.

It doesn't seem to matter how I do it, whether it is creating pdf by file print method or convert to pdf.
It also happens when I print as pdf through MYOB.

  • Problem converting ABAP list into PDF

    Hello,
Having converted a spool request of an abap list into pdf the "intensified" attribute of the list items will disappeare. Text in the list with i.e. COL_BACKGROUND INTENSIFIED would be converted to text with blue and normal font. None of the possible combinations of colours and intenstions have produced an output in bold.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.
    Thank you in advance.

Ok, try this.... Start Distiller. Click Settings > Font locations.
I see about 8 locations. How many do you see?
Anyway, select the first, click Remove. Repeat until all are gone. Click OK.
When I do this, it beeps at me and fills in the default list again.
Does it look different? If so, click OK and try again.

There are two options that can think of. 1. use wider lines. 2. change the print quality to 300 or at least 600, rather then the default 1200. The problem often stems from a line being denoted in pixel width rather than point width. At 1200 dpi, the pixel width is small. That causes a problem when displayed on a screen (a print out might be fine) at 96 dpi. If you can change to point width, it will be better.
At least this gives you something to look at. It is not a new problem as already mentioned and I never pursued it well enough (partly because I am not really a WORD or Excel user).
