Problems copying between Flash CS5.5 and TextEdit in OSX Lion

This is a wierd one but it's cost me a ton of time...
When running Flash CS5.5 on OSX Lion (vs. 10.7.4) if I copy text from Flash and then paste it into a TextEdit Document it ALWAYS results in slowing down Flash to the point where it is basically unusable. The ONLY solution is to restart the whole system. (I use TextEdit to document my work, so I go back and forth between the two constantly).
Specifically, the copied text must be from a Instance Name field or a Movie Clip name field. (I've copied text out of a classic text field without problem).
When I go to paste the text into a TextEdit document there is a abnormal lag of a few seconds, but the text does get pasted, and TextEdit continues to function normally.
However, when I then return to Flash, it is noticable slower. Every click takes several seconds to register. For example, when opening a movie clip in the library, after double clicking the MC after a few seconds the MC will be highlighted, after several more seconds the timeline will display for that MC, afer several more seconds the stage will finally display the cotents of the MC. The larger the file, the longer the delays.
Restarting Flash makes no difference. Trashing Prefs makes no difference. However restarting the entire system does fix the problem.
I also reinstalled Flash, which also fixed the problem, but I was able to cause the problem to occur again.
I may pass this along to Apple also.
Thanks for any insights!

Thanks! (Didn't understand what you meant before).
Activity Monitor showed that pasting the text in TextEdit caused fontd to jump up to near 100% whenever I tried to interact with Flash. fontworker and helpd also hit near 100% for a few moments, but it was mostly fontd. Killing fontd in Activity Monitor seemed to return everything to normal (but I'm not sure what else is affected by doing that).  I am also, then, unable to make the bug occur again.
So it appears to be the os. Strange that this only seems to affect Flash, though.
Thanks again (Learned something!)

    As far as I know Photoshop can not open Zip files.  If you unzip the zip archive and it contained PSD files.  How do you know they were all saved on a XP system with Photoshop CS5 with max compatibility.  The message you getting seem to be contradicting that.

  • Version discrepancies in Flash CS5 and Catalyst CS5

    A few month ago using ADL compiling for mobiles I noticed that the versions of ADL and AIR differed
    in Flash CS5 and Catalyst. This caused me problems until I discovered it.
    Package/version                       adl.exe              air.dll
    Adobe Flash CS5                      2.0.1.12090       2.0.1.12090
    Adobe Flash Catalyst CS5         1.5.3.9120         2.6.0.19120
    I have seen the symptoms of this in other forums on the Internet.
    No change even though I have updated the packages (last update of Flash came 2011-07-02).

    The forums are not the place to post bugs/wishlist items.... Adobe rarely visits here.  Use the link below, though it is probably too late for CS6 since CS6 appears to be on the verge of release - you can probably get a trial version of it and see for yourself.

    Fonts are handled by your operating system and installed through the respective System Control panel (Windows) or Fontbook (Mac). On Windows simply type "Fonts" in the search bar in the start menu and when you open the panel/ folder use File --> Add Font. On Mac the procedures are similar, you just need to find the Fontbook app in Applications:Utilities.

    I am freeing up some space and am using osx lion, but i have 12gb of back ups, how can i delete these and what are they?

    Gotcha.
    Back-ups are what they are: a safety copy. If you feel you don't need them, you can trash them. They could be of a previous System if you upgraded, or something else. You wont get the full picture from looking at system profiler.
    You may want to look into getting an external drive and offloading some stuff to it.

  • Flash cs5 and cs3 crash on publish, export, copy frames etc.

    Well hi, welcome to my nightmare
    i've been working for a loooongg hugeeee time on an animation, it probably lasts over 20m, has tons of music, movieclips and videos. It's divided into 5 or 6 scenes don't remember exactly. The fla weighs about 550mb (im not using everything in the library anyway, i guess i could trim out a lot) and i CANNOT PUBLISH. im about to go absolutely nuts. If i publish, "Flash stopped responding", hi desktop! I'm running windows 7 x64 ultimate, have a quad-core q6600 4GB RAM DDR2 @667MHz, and a nvidia gtx260, which probably doesn't matter.
    Okay, when i started to create the animation everything went smooth, as the fla got heavier and the animation more complex, i started to notice problems like "not enough memory to complete operation" and random crashes. I believe most of it has to do with flash having a poor memory management.
    Anyway, the thing is that i cannot publish at all. I tried breaking the animation down to 4 files, so as to make lighter files and maybe get it to publish separately, but in the 4th scene, which has an embedded movie in it, i find it impossible to copy the frames to paste them into a new file. I copy the frames, and flash cs3 just stays there, stuck and not going anywhere, i have to kill the process in order to get out, and flash cs5 doesn't copy the frames at all, it loads for some time and then if i right click, the paste frames option is in grey, like unavailable.
    So i'm stuck, i have all there and can't do anything with it!!!. I tried rendering the test scene for each scene but the same 4th scene has a problem! life hates me! the tweens inside the movie clips won't play on the swf... so i cant render test scenes to get separate swfs.
    If anyone has any idea, they'd be my hero!!! please i really need to publish this, it was a whole lot of work and im surely not just leaving the fla in my hard drive to fall into oblivion, not a chance
    pleeeeaseee help!!! thank you so much in advance!!!!!!

    Hi Morf,
    I can't reproduce your crash. Can you please send me the file up to the point where you saved? Please zip the file, change .zip extension to .zzz, email the attachment to my attention at [email protected]

  • Newbie problem with upgrade to CS5 and editing in Design view

    I'm a newbie working on my first website. I built the site in CS3. I have 3 template pages, each containg editable regions, and numerous pages created from each template. I had no problem working with the pages in CS3- I could edit the content in either Code or Design view.
    I have now upgraded to CS5. The other change is I had to move the site to another machine, as CS5 does not support my older generation Mac. The problem I am having:
    If I open the index.html template or the page based on it, everything works fine. I can edit in both Code and Design views. When I open any page based on my other two templates, I can edit in Code view, but when I try to type in the editable areas on the page in Design View, I simply see a "circle with a slash in it" icon indicating I can't type anything. If I Preview the pages, the existing content is visible, all links work etc.
    Being a newbie, editing in Design view is easiest(and probably safest). It seems like this should not be happening in any case? I am too inexperienced to know where to start. I have seen some posts regarding similar issues, but nothing exactly the same. I am really hoping it is just some silly mistake I am making...Any ideas would be much appreciated.
    Mac OS X ver 10.5.8
    Thanks,
    Maura

    I'm sorry, I'm afraid I haven't gotten to the uploading part yet:(
    I'll just copy the code from one of the pages that is not editable. Let me know if this is not what you need.

    margin: 0; /* zeroing the margin of the last element in the #header div will avoid margin collapse - an unexplainable space between divs. If the div has a border around it, this is not necessary as that also avoids the margin collapse */
    padding: 10px 0; /* using padding instead of margin will allow you to keep the element away from the edges of the div */
    /* Tips for sidebar1:
    1. Since we are working in relative units, it's best not to use padding on the sidebar. It will be added to the overall width for standards compliant browsers creating an unknown actual width.
    2. Since em units are used for the sidebar value, be aware that its width will vary with different default text sizes.
    3. Space between the side of the div and the elements within it can be created by placing a left and right margin on those elements as seen in the ".twoColHybLtHdr #sidebar1 p" rule.
    .twoColHybLtHdr #sidebar1 {
    float: left;
    width: 12em; /* since this element is floated, a width must be given */
    background: #EBEBEB; /* the background color will be displayed for the length of the content in the column, but no further */
    padding: 15px 0;
    .twoColHybLtHdr #sidebar1 h3, .twoColHybLtHdr #sidebar1 p {
    margin-left: 10px; /* the left and right margin should be given to every element that will be placed in the side columns */
    margin-right: 10px;
    /* Tips for mainContent:
    1. The space between the mainContent and sidebar1 is created with the left margin on the mainContent div.  No matter how much content the sidebar1 div contains, the column space will remain. You can remove this left margin if you want the #mainContent div's text to fill the #sidebar1 space when the content in #sidebar1 ends.
    2. Be aware it is possible to cause float drop (the dropping of the non-floated mainContent area below the sidebar) if an element wider than it can contain is placed within the mainContent div. WIth a hybrid layout (percentage-based overall width with em-based sidebar), it may not be possible to calculate the exact width available. If the user's text size is larger than average, you will have a wider sidebar div and thus, less room in the mainContent div. You should be aware of this limitation - especially if the client is adding content with Contribute.
    3. In the Internet Explorer Conditional Comment below, the zoom property is used to give the mainContent "hasLayout." This may help avoid several IE-specific bugs.
    .twoColHybLtHdr #mainContent {
    border-left-color: #666666;
    border-left-style: solid;
    border-left-width: thin;
    padding-left: 1em;
    margin-top: 0;
    margin-right: 20px;
    margin-bottom: 0;
    margin-left: 12em;
    .twoColHybLtHdr #footer {
    padding: 0 10px; /* this padding matches the left alignment of the elements in the divs that appear above it. */
    background:#DDDDDD;
    .twoColHybLtHdr #footer p {
    margin: 0; /* zeroing the margins of the first element in the footer will avoid the possibility of margin collapse - a space between divs */
    padding: 10px 0; /* padding on this element will create space, just as the the margin would have, without the margin collapse issue */
    /* Miscellaneous classes for reuse */
    .fltrt { /* this class can be used to float an element right in your page. The floated element must precede the element it should be next to on the page. */

  • Best practices for Flash CS5 and Flash Builder 4 integration?

    With Flash CS5's new XFL file structure/format, what's the best way to structure project files for Flash CS5 integration with Flash Builder 4? Flash CS5 autocreates a folder named after the xfl file as the outer container, and then all the assets/xfl within it. Should this folder be used as the project folder for Flash Builder 4, or better to nest the xfl container folder in a "real" project folder? I would presume the latter, since you might have multiple XFL files in one project. I was hoping to see some automatic linkages between document class of the Flash CS5 XFL file and any default ActionScript class created by Flash Builder, but so far I seem to need to specify a document class directly in Flash CS5's environment and making sure that the path to a default class created by Flash Builder is correct.
    Thanks in advance for any suggestions...

    Most likely, you know that, but just in case, you can integrate new Flash project into existing Flex 4 project  from within the Flash Builder by choosing either Flash Component or Flash Container from the FB Design view. In such workflow Flash Builder opens the Flash CS 4 (I assume that should be the same for CS5) and takes care of the integrating the newly created Flash project into original Flex 4 project.
