Problems creating 2 networks.

Hello,
Here on my office we have 3 macs, 1 wireless router and 1 gigabit lan switch.
My wireless router only have 100mbps ports and I need a little more speed on my network.
So I want to use my wireless router only as internet via Airport and my gigabit lan as file sharing via gigabit connection.
I can disable the network features on my wireless router so the macs can't see each other on the wireless connection.
The problem is that i can't make them work on the gigabit switch. I need to put some static ips on the macs and I don't know what to put on the default gateway because the gigabit switch doesn't have an IP, its a SWITCH 08P 10/100/1000 D-LINK DGS-1008D.
Can anyone tell me what ips and gateways should I put on my network connection?
PS: I tried putting my wireless router via cable on my gigabit switch but it limited my gigabit switch to 100mbps and started to slow my network traffic.
Thanks.

The simplest and most effective solution is to invest the modest amount of money involved in purchasing a 4 Port gigabit wireless router.  The most expensive one I've run across is the Apple Airport Extreme and even it is not outrageously expensive.  This would greatly simplify your network and your life.
Hope this helps

  • Problems creating a Network -- Base Station works fine with Win XP and 7

I just bought the Airport Express and am using it now as a base station and can connect from both my XP and Win 7 based PCs -- can access the internet from anywhere in my home -- wonder of wonders.
I tried setting up a Network but had to go back to the factory settings each time. I basically can leave it at that (no printing from wireless) but that is not a big issue.
What else will I miss by not being able to create a network?
    What am I doing wrong?

  • Windows can't create a network map/appearance of B...

    Hi
I have had BT infinity for somewhat over a month now without any problems, until yesterday. That I am aware of two things have changed but in what order they changed I do not know.
'Firstly' I connected a brand new but several years old i.e. unused, LG 1T network drive and tried to get through the software installation process without success (can't create acceptable login details ). However I could see etc. the drive if I typed its network address into a browser's address window. BUT at that point the Windows network map started breaking. That was yesterday and I have, for the moment, removed the drive and deleted its info from the Homehub 5b.
Today I noticed that two new wireless networks have appeared, BTWifi-X and BTWifi-with-Fon. These appear and disappear as and when my homehub is switched on and off and, given what I have read, I assume these are the hotspot networks I am providing.
If I have my laptop connected to the homehub via LAN, Windows can create a network map providing no other computer is connected via WAN. Conversely when any computer is simultaneously connected to the homehub via WAN Windows loses the ability to create a network map, this includes the situation where one computer is connected via WAN and LAN. I often use my employer's WAN when at work and frequently forget to switch the WAN off, meaning that when I come home the laptop is initially often connected via WAN and LAN. That I am aware of, Windows has not previously had a problem creating a network map when this has happened.
There does not seem to be a problem if my phone (android) is connected to the homehub via WAN or if I have two computers connected to the homehub via only WAN nor if two computers are connected to the home hub via only LAN
One other thing I have also noticed is that the network map, when created, seems to contain, at times, a switch, a hub, Homehub5 and BThub5**** as if there a multitude of connectors.
I would like to get back the ability for windows to create network maps whatever connections are made.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

You seem to be using WAN to mean a Wireless connection when it means something else. Is this correct.
Your HH 5 B should provide a better network map than windows. Do you know how to log into your Home Hub Manager to get this and other information ?
Have you set up your HH 5 B as recommended in this forum ?

  • Problem creating Network ACL for a ROLE in Oracle 11gR2

According to Oracle Documentation when you create a new Network ACL you can add privileges to a user or role.  I need to create a new ACL for the UTL_SMTP package for a specific role, but when I granted it the users who have that role are still getting the "ORA-24247: network access denied by access control list (ACL)" error when they try to send an email.  If I grant the ACL privilege to the same users directly it works fine.  Is there any step I'm missing?  This is the test I have made on my Solaris 10 - Oracle 11gR2 (11.2.0.3) Standard Edition server:

I'm aware that role privileges doesn't apply inside procedures, functions or packages by default, but this is an anonymous block so it should use the active roles for the user.  I also tried adding a "dbms_session.set_role('TESTACL_ROLE');" at the beggining of the anonymous PL/SQL block but I got the same access error.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give to me on this question, it would be very hard to grant the ACL to all the individual users as they are more than 1000, and we create more regularly.

Thanks for your quick reply... I don't have a problem creating the basic ACL with the privileges granted for a user.  The problem appears when I try to create an ACL with privileges for a ROLE.  You can see here http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/appdev.112/e25788/d_networkacl_adm.htm#BABIGEGG than the official Oracle documentation states that you can assign the ACL principal to be a user or role:
    Parameter
    Description
    acl
Name of the ACL. Relative path will be relative to "/sys/acls".
    description
    Description attribute in the ACL
    principal
Principal (database user or role) to whom the privilege is granted or denied. Case sensitive.
My issue is that when I try to create the ACL for a role it doesn't work.
Have you ever created an ACL for a role? if so please send me an example or let me know which step I might be missing.  Cheers.

No, not unless it is simply a network connection.
How is your IPTV being provided.. if it is using a separate vlan or separate vpi/vci in the adsl connection. Who is your ISP?
    Is the TP-Link ADSL?
Is the IPTV using a separate voice channel on adsl?
    Or a different vlan.
Sorry but it is something where a definite answer is not possible unless you provide all the details.
The setups are unique to each ISP around the world..
Here is one for our local ISP.
    http://www.avenard.org/iptv/Setup.html
He has a section on getting this working with apple router over wireless.. look
    http://www.avenard.org/iptv/IPTV_and_Wireless.html
Google around and see if other people have had success.. the whole setup is tricky.. and it is hard if nobody has used it who actually understands networking.

  • HT4260 Creating roaming network problem?

    HI
I tried to create roaming network at home with help of that article. I just bought new airport extreme for basestation to first floor and new airport express to 2nd floor. I´m planning to connect them with ethernet.
I´m using Mountain Lion on my mac and airport utility 6.1 . I noticed that I don´t have all the option needed to configure roaming network with that new airport utility?
Can some give me working instructions how to create roaming network with those tools?
    Thx, Jukka

Sorry - I am a Windows guy and didn't read your post completely - and yes Apple does want you to use this version - but as I understand it, it can be used to set up a basic roaming network - but I don't have Mountain Lion so I can't advise you - however an alternative would be to use someone else's computer with 5.6.1 to set up your network (by the way you could even use a Windows computer)  - but I can say from experience that once you set it up, you will be very happy with it - I have an office with 8 Extremes and 2 Expresses on 2 T1 lines and they work great - I would also suggest that you contact Apple and tell them what you think - maybe if enough people complain that it is broken, they will fix it - and again I am sorry about the mix-up - all the different versions and compatibility make it very confusing - many of the gurus feel the same way and suggest some of the things I mention - and you could re-word your question and post it again (this time I won't jump in) and maybe one of the gurus will answer.- anyway good luck - I was only trying to help

  • How do I create Local Network Home Folders for Users from an Active Directory binding?

My situation is this... I run an iMac lab at my school.  I have a server set up to manage the network user accounts in the lab.  Currently, I can sucessfully create Local Network Users and log in to them from any of the iMacs.  My school has an Active Directory set up for all the students on campus.  What I'd like to be able to do is configure the server to allow the students to use their user names and passwords from their school accounts to log in to the iMacs and have it automatically build a network user folder on the server for them to use during the lab.
So far, I have been able to configure access for the Active Directory accounts to use the services on the server, mainly File Sharing, but I cannot figure out how to allow them to log into a user account on the client's machines using their same Active Directory credentials.  I have even attempted to allow the user accounts to create mobile accounts, but that's not working out either.  Entering indivual network user accounts into the server for every student every semester will be a nightmare.  I'm sure there's a way to do it automatically using the exisitng Active Directory structure.
The live server is running 10.8.5 Server still, but I've also got a clone running OS X Server in case it matters.  Please help!

ok reinstalled everything dns seems to be working have done sudo changeip -checkhostname and it says that both names match but then i started open directory and can't seem to get Kerberos started, i've tried changing it to stand alone then back again but it does nothing. I'm wondering why this would happen? i've tried adding a kerberos record but it doesn't do it just does nothing so i don't know what i'm doing wrong. I wondered if it might be a problem with the two network cards and dns as on ethernet one it is getting the dns name xserve.xxxx.ac.uk (which matches what the college server wants to call us) but on ethernet 2 gets xserve-2.local because it tells me that it already exists on ethernet one and renames it to this. I need to set up NAT so have ethernet coming in on port one and out again on port two. I wonder if my dns is backwards as its got the 192. address the NAT uses but its linked to the ethernet port one dns maybe this is the problem. would this cause open directory not to start kerberos?

  • Problems creating a Office 2013 combined installation share, bug?

I have tried to combine Office 2013 x86 (English), with Norwegian Language Pack, and the full Proofing Tools except IMEs. However, I ran in to some problems which might be bugs?
I create a network share and copy the Office 2013 x86 files to it, the Norwegian LIP, then the Proofing Tools files (without overwrite).
Setup.exe works fine for the initial Office 2013 installation, however it will not work for the Proofing Tools installation.
I run the setups like this:
    Office: setup.exe /adminfile admin.msp /config proplus.ww\config.xml
This works just fine, Office installs without any problem.
    Proofing: setup.exe /config proofkit.ww\config.xml
This however did not work. The setup crashes with the error:
Setup halts at the beginning of the installation bar, then breakes out with a an unexpected error, installation failed, rolling back (roughly translated)
My current workaround is to have one folder on the share for "Office 2013" and one for the "Proofing Tools".
The "problem" I get then, is that I need to keep both "updates" folder up to date and identical in order to get a fully updated Office installation.
I have also tried to copy the setup.exe/dll files + catalog from both the LIP iso, and Proofing tools ISO, but non of them gives me a "one installation source to rule them all". They all brake in some way.
Is it somehow possible to get a fully working "combined" Office installation source on a network share?
This is the config.xml for the Office 2013 installation, I've skipped a few lines because I have only added 2 lines to the original config.xml

  • Time Machine and "might be a problem with your network"

Hi! My Power Mac is from 2008, and I'm in the middle of replacing my hard drive. Here's a summary of what I've gone through, including various trouble shooting...
OK, the hard drive dies (all of which I wrote about in an earlier thread and, I think, not very relevant for this thread). While waiting to buy my replacement, I created an external bootable drive, hooked up via FW800. I created a new User Account, and then I used the Migration Assistant to bring in all the user settings, files, etc, from my Time Machine. It took many hours and and during the stage when it was transferring files, it gave me the prompt: "There might be a problem with your network. The other Mac is not responding. Make sure that all of your network devices are connected and turned on. Also, make sure that your Ethernet cables are still connected properly to your computer and to the network, or if using AirPort, that the base station is in range and turned on." After clicking "Continue" got me nowhere, I clicked Cancel, and it was a very incomplete migration [no apps, no files]. I didn't sweat this since this external drive is a temporary solution anyway.
Tonight I came home with the new internal drive, installed it, installed Leopard, and began the Setup Assistant. I got the same prompt as last night. NOTE: This time with Setup Assistant; last night was with Migration Assistant.
I notice from reviewing the boards that this Time Machine glitch seemed to happen a few years ago, in Leopard, and maybe hasn't happened since. But I haven't read a thread with a solution. (Maybe I missed it?)
A few things come to mind:
    1. Could there be an issue with the fact that the computer is only 10.5 and many of the files/apps may have been installed when I was running 10.5.8? I'm just tossing that out there. For instance, what if I set up an initial User account, then updated the software to 10.5 and THEN used Migration Assistant to bring in the older account?
    2. Soon, since I'm reinstalling Leopard, I'll get the prompt to use Setup Assistant, and this time I'll just select account settings and apps. I'll bring in the files manually, later. Since the progress window seems to get hung up during the file-transferring stage, maybe I'll have better luck if I skip that.
If anyone has any suggestions, man, I'd be way grateful!
    Thanks!

"try trashing the timemachine.plist in your original user's Library>Preferences."
I didn't even get to that step. Here's what happened.
I went back to my original Admin account (the one I restored via Setup Assistant, from my Time Machine backup), and ran Migration Assistant again. I selected Applications only and when it gave me a prompt about the account name already existing. So, I created a new account name (TEMP 1, I called it).
All of my applications were restored.
Next, I tried it with all the files and folders. It didn't give me the duplicate name prompt this time. It copied all my flles and folders over.
Was it perfect? Well, a lot of the apps need some fresh registration and some upgrading, but I suppose that's to be expected. Or is it?
While I feel like this problem is in my rear-view mirror, I'm still interested in your suggestons for a Time Machine altenative.
    Thanks again for your advice!

  • Airport has stopped working -- Now Can't Create a Network

We're using a wireless router (not an Apple AirPort router) to connect to the internet. We've had connections before, but now this has simply stopped working.
In the past, I've solved this problem by just creating a new network and connecting to that. That seemed to get the connection back.
Now, I create a network in Preferences > Network > Airport, but it doesn't show up in Internet Connect > Airport, or under the Airport in the menu bar.
When I try to connect to it using "Other" I get the message "There was an error connecting to the network XXXXX".
When I click on "Create Network" in Internet connect, it only gives me an option to create a computer-to-computer network.
Ethernet connection works fine. This is on a PB 12" / 10.4.11
    Any suggestions most welcome.

Reset the printer back to Factory Defaults and check the wireless radio again. It needs to be enabled.
Say thanks by clicking the Kudos Thumbs Up to the right in the post.
If my post resolved your problem, please mark it as an Accepted Solution ...

  • Problem creating transactional iview for BW system

    Hi gurus
We are facing one problem creating a transactional iview for a BW 3.5 system . We wanto to call transaction SU01 in our BW system using an iview. When we use SAP for html, we have all the menu on the iview , I mean the same result as if we use smen, not SU01.
And if we use SAP GUI , we are always having the same GUI Error

Thanks in advance and best regards.

Thanks Bala for your quick reply. I´ve tried with function module RSBB_URL_PREFIX_GET  and all the settings were OK. Still the same result.
Adding more information. We have another WAS 6.40 server with different Module(we have RM and XRPM , not BW) and we are having the same problems. I am wondering if its related with some special config or activation
Maybe  I´ve forgot some service activation in SICF? I´m able to reach the SMEN, but not the SU01
or I´m missing some config elsewhere?
    Thanks in advance.
    Best regards.

  • Can't create Local Network Users in Yosemite

I can't create Local Network Users (or change passwords)
Logged on to /LDAPv3/127.0.0.1 as directory administrator
When I try to create a new user (press the [+], fill in the form), it brings up the message:
existing connection is not authenticated or secure: password change denied
I suspect this is emblematic of other issues. I can authenticate for Mail and SMB, but not for AFP or Xcode

So I had this problem last night as well when I upgraded my 10.9.5 OD master to 10.10.
Two obvious problems after that upgrade:
    1)  Could not add a new Local Network User
    2)  Existing users could not connect via AFP (but could via SMB)
Through a series of trial and error (and with two Apple Support people...), we found that the following actions seemed to help fix some (but not all) of the problems.:
Problem #2 seemed to initially be fixed by archiving the OD Master, destroying the OD Master and then reimporting from the archive.  I archived from the upgraded 10.10, but should probably have tried restoring my 10.9.5 archive (which may end up being why I still have some problems...)
Problem #1 seemed to be solved when I used WorkGroup Manager to reset the password on the Directory Administrator account I use  (I also blew out all references to that account from the Keychain, so everything reprompted me to add that password
However, we think the root cause of this might have been that in /var/db/openldap/migration, the following "dot" files were still present after the upgrade
    fs:migration root# ls -la
    total 6308816
    drwx------  10 root  wheel         340 Oct 30 18:59 .
    drwxr-xr-x   6 root  wheel         204 Oct 30 18:57 ..
    -rw-------   1 root  wheel           0 Oct 30 18:59 .autossl
    -rw-------   1 root  wheel           0 Oct 30 18:59 .enableODProxyd
    -rw-------   1 root  wheel           0 Oct 30 18:59 .rekerberize
    -rw-------   1 root  wheel           0 Oct 30 18:59 .updateLocales
    -rw-r--r--   1 root  wheel      333436 Oct 30 18:57 authbackup.ldif
    -rw-r--r--@  1 root  wheel      617453 Oct 30 18:57 backup.ldif
    -rw-r--r--   1 root  wheel      617453 Oct 30 18:57 backup.ldif.backup
    -rw-r--r--   1 root  wheel  3228537344 Oct 30 18:59 oldsystem.tar
Those 4 .dot files were *not* present in that directory on the two other test OD Master servers that I upgraded without issue.
So we removed them and after having done all the above as well -- I can now add users to the server.   The OD engineer I talked to thought that the presence of those .dot files may have been triggering something to rerun every time PasswordService launched.
When all was said and done, I was then able to "kinit <mydiradminaccount>" correctly and get a "klist" without issue.
ALL THAT SAID:  As of this morning, *some* (most?  I don't know yet) of my existing OD user accounts are able to successfully log into the server.   A couple of them (so far) are reporting that their account is "disabled" (which is different from the "shaking"/can't-log-in behavior) -- but they can still log in via SMB -- so I think there was still a problem migrating OD accounts in the upgrade process.
AND -- I noticed that -- in Server 4.0 -- "change password" is greyed out, so I have to use WorkGroup Manager to change server account passwords.
    Whee...

  • Problem setting up Network User

I am running Mac OS X 10.5 Server with clients running 10.5 also. Currently, there are several users on the server, but in Workgroup Manager, their home directory is set to null. The users have local accounts on certain 10.5 clients which are linked to their accounts on the server. So when they log in to the client, they are authenticated against their account on the server, and various settings (Mail, iCal) are picked up from the server.
I now need to allow users to log in to any client machine without setting up a local account (and linking it to the server account) first. So I have gone through the procedures specified in the 'User Management v10.5' documentation, specifically the 'Administering Share Points' and 'Administering Home Folders -> Creating a Network Home Folder' sections. I have used the second set of procedures to create a network home folder for a single test user. I assume that this makes the test user a 'Network User', though how to create a 'Network User' is not explicitly specified anywhere.
The problem is that on a client machine (that does not have a local account for the test user), the test user's network account is not listed on the login screen (though the login settings indicate it should be), and I also cannot log in as the test user by clicking on 'Other...' and supplying the requisite credentials. I should note that the client Mac is 'attached' to the server (eg. through Directory Utility).
Can anyone provide advice as to what's going wrong? Is there some other (secret?!) step that is needed to create a Network User so that clients see the user and allow the user to login?
    Many, many thanks,
    Jolin

    Hi Leif,
    Many thanks for your reply.
    Leif Carlsson wrote:
The only way of "linking" a "local" account on a computer to a OpenDirectory account that I know of is to create the "network" account homefolder on the local/client machine HD when the user is logging in to the OD server for the first time.
Actually, it is possible to not have a network account or home folder, and link a local user to a user account on the server. When a client computer is bound to the OpenDirectory server, in the 'Accounts' preference pane of the client computer, there is a field called 'Server Account:' with a 'Set…' button. Clicking the 'Set…' button allows one to link the local account to the server account. Even though there is no home directory on the server, when the user logs in to the client Mac, the password and any managed preferences for that account are taken from the server account.
The client machine has to be bound to OD first and the account should preferably be setup as a mobile account (so the account can be used even if the computer isn't connected to the network - logins are cached locally).
I have bound the client machine to the OD server, but I have not yet set up the account as a mobile account. I plan to do this eventually, but wanted to get the 'basic' network user account working first.
For a "true network home" folder residing only on a server volume/share, the OD account should use a share(point) setup in Server Admin for an automount AFP (or NFS) "User home folders" share.
I have done this. The server has a sharepoint called 'Homes' which is set to automount over AFP, with the setting 'Use for: User home folders and group folders'. This seems to be working, because on the client Mac, the 'Homes' sharepoint automatically appears when browsing the available network volumes.
Then in the OD the user should be setup to use the automatically created path (afp://<server FQDN>/<shared folder>) as it's homefolder path.
I believe I've done this as well, using Workgroup Manager. When viewing the 'Basic' tab of the user, the 'Home:' is given as 'afp://<server FQDN>/Homes/jwarren'. That looks right to me, but I cannot login as the user 'jwarren' from the client Mac's login screen (Network Users are enabled on the client Mac). When I log in as a different user on the client Mac, I can browse the network, and the above afp path is automatically mounted.
Is there some other setting needed so that the client Mac will 'see' the network user I have set up? As I say, the autmount sharepoint is set up, and the user is set up in OpenDirectory (on the server) to have a home folder on the automount. But when I'm at the login screen on the client Mac, the network user does not appear in the list, and if I try to login by typing the username and password manually, the login window just shakes as it does when one enters the incorrect password.
    Any further help much appreciated!

  • Creating a network bridge from ethernet to wifi for xbox

Hey guys, I'm trying to create a network bridge from eth0(ethernet port) to ra0(wifi) in an attempt to avoid buying a wireless adapter for my new Xbox 360 I got this Christmas. With Windows, it looks incredibly simple(just going into network settings and right clicking basically) but I don't want to boot into windows every time I want to use live... I have searched around the net but I always get DNS errors whenever I play with iptables, does anyone have a good way to get this to run?

Any chance you guys are going to finish answering it? Since Arch is the do-it-yourself distro, can we get a group of people together who want to make a package or go "fix" the NetworkManager source code to include support for autoconfiguration of bridges?
Windows calls them bridges now, just for your information. In windows you select or highlight both network interface devices at the same time, right click on either one, and select "Bridge Connections". This is incredibly easy for the user, and it is just as powerful as that mess of instructions you gave up there.
scripts are OK, but they should never be the final solution to a problem. Remember it helps if more people don't have to know everything about an operating system. If people can avoid the complexity of Linux, they will be happier, more productive, and will enjoy contributing software to Linux or telling their friends about Linux.
If it requires this "splint" scripting that doesn't work 100% of the time, Linux is going to die a very grisly death. I know more and more people nowadays who know to Bridge the connections in Windows to get internet on their xbox 360s. I can't convince any of them that Linux is better because they ignore the rest of Linux and complain about this one missing feature. Indeed even I can't use Linux to bridge my laptop's connections for use with my desktop or another computer that needs to download 3rd party wireless drivers from the internet.
I am a huge proponent of Linux, but to be honest, I notice that a bunch of work still needs to be done. I realize the market and business forces are set against Linux right now, but if everyone would stop making new distros and instead fix the packages that go into the existing ones, we could have Linux replace Windows within 5 years.
If you don't like a distro, go work for the company and help them improve it. Making your own distro is not going to help solve the watered-down developer population.
Networking is something that is VERY important to people. NetworkManager was a great success and boon to everyday Linux usage. It needs a bit of polishing; that is all.
