Problems creating notation from scratch using the edit function of GarageBa

I am using garage band to write music. I open
a blank loop with a grand piano system instrument and
begin editing. I encounter the following problems:
1. The software does not allow me to enter any note
below middle c on additional or ledger lines that
should be available below the stave of the treble
clef.
1.1 Connected to this issue is that it is very
difficult to write music that contains subtleties.
This directly affects the way the music sounds. The
program substitutes accidentals in the stave
conditioned by the key signature. For example writing
Chopin in GarageBand as opposed to the written sheet
music is the difference between buying a designer
dress in a Bond Street Boutique and buying a cheap
copy in Primark. "Brins Bungalo" Tutorial claims
that
Garageband "is an application suitable for both the
dabbler and the conservatorially trained."
2. When there are many notes to be entered in a bar
garageBand is not flexible to accomodate the notes
required, Notes are clustered in a bunch makiing it
difficult to read what has been written (preventing the composer checking that it has been written correctly).
3. When there are many notes to be written in a bar
e.g. more than, say four notes, (lots of quavers or semi quavers) the
program does some strange things which I am unable to
control:
a) groups unrelated larger notes with the smaller
notes and will not allow them to be separated;
b) changes the value of notes already entered;
c) sometimes splits the note being entered into two
smaller notes joined by a tie;
d) accidentals appear on notes entered or notes
already entered without my instruction;
e) it changes note values, filling up the bar, to the
value of the time key before I have a chance to finish
entering the remaining notes that I want to place in
the bar;
4. How is one able to enter "dynamics" (symbol marks
of expression). I know it is possible because many of
the preloaded loops have these expressions evident
within them. I have tried consulting GarageBand Help but this has proved impossible to fathom.
Can anyone help?
iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

You have my sympathy as I also wanted to enter notes on a stave but GB is simply not designed to do it.
You can do an amazing amount with GB but complex scoring is not really possible. You can't print a score btw.
In answer to some of your questions,
Expression cannot be added using the scoring facility. You need to go back to the piano roll view and use the expression/modulation/pitchbend/footswitch parameters.
I think you're possibly doing something wrong as I've just done a little test and I've entered a C0 without a problem.
I've also not had problems moving notes about and getting the right length or having GB fill notes to the end of the bar.
This is how I do it.
Create a software track.
Double click on the track to get the track editor.
Press record and use the the keyboard on the piano roll to enter a note. You've now created a recording region. You can't enter notes outside a recording region so you might need to drag it out to the required size.
Swap to note entry. That gives you the double stave. Drag the grey bar that separates the arranger area from the track editor upwards. This gives you more space on the stave.
Command click anywhere on the stave and a note will appear. Just move that note to wherever you want it and click to set it in place. You can always move it again by left clicking on the note and dragging it.
Accidentals will depend on the key you've set for the song and what notes you're entering. In D for instance you won't get an accidental for F sharp but you will get one for A flat.
Let us know how you get on.
If this still doesn't give you what you need then I suggest a dedicated notation package. Create a midi file from the package and import into GB for final tweaking.
Cheers

    Hi Tobias,
    I assume you are currently using "Contains & Case Sensitive" for the "Search" attribute. Have you already tried out "Exact & Case Sensitive"? Because that will internally use the LIKE operator as your original query does and because the % is at the end it should enable the use of an index. But it might still not work, because the ORDER BY might be executed at a different time than in your original example, but it's worth a try.

    If the second then don't do it.

    Suppose I did create it using firing queries from my program then the next problem is how my program would start up next time......?????You would start by learning about DDL which is the common name for the languages, which vary by database, used to create the entities that represent the structure of a database. Until you figure out the syntax of that you can't do anything in java.

    I had the same issue and I'm running Windows 7.  Tried working with technical support for several hours but they were no help.  They just had me doing the same things over and over, offering no real answers.  I finally got fed up and have decided to return my product for a full refund.

  • TestStand not updating th description after using the edit substep

    I've created numerous custom steps in TestStand.  None of them will update the description after I use the edit substep and change some of that steps properties.  As an example, I have the following step description...
    str(Step.Channel.DeviceName)
    After I use the edit substep, which changes step.Channel.DeviceName, the description does not update.  However, if I then open the properties menu for that item and either select "OK" of "Cancel" to leave the property window, it then updates to the correct values.  Placing down a new step will also force the description to update.  While this is not functionally causing any problems, it would be nice if the descriptions updated immediatly.

    Hey Dillon,
    The reason it doesn't update is because the sequence editor doesn't know that the sequencefile has changed so it doesn't know to redraw that window.  You can force it to redraw the window by calling the method IncChangeCount from the PropertyObjectFileClass.  If you increment the change count it should automatically update the description as soon as your edit substep completes.  Also a piece of advice, in the future if you have TestStand questions, you can probably get a quicker answer to them by posting on the TestStand forums, even if it is using the TestStand API in another programming environment like LabVIEW or CVI.  Hope this helps!

    How do I automatically create bookmarks in adobe using the Scanjet pro 3000 s2?

    Does the file you are writing have a timestamp in it?  If so you could read the timestamp from the last time it was written and see if the day has changed, handling the name of the file appropriately.  The easiest way to record the timestamp is probably to write the timestamp as the number of seconds that have elapsed since 12:00 am on Firday January 1st 1904 in UT.  The "Get Date/Time in Seconds" function will give you this value.

    I want to upgrade my old airport express to the new express. Can I just switch out the old for the new or must I delete the old network first and start from scratch with the new express?

    It is not necessary to delete your old wireless networks first, but doing so may eliminate confusion. If you wish to do that, open System Preferences > Network, and select Wi-Fi from the left column. Click the Advanced... button, then select your old wireless networks and delete them with the "–" (minus) button. Make sure the "Remember networks this computer has joined" remains checked.
    OK then Apply.
    This prevents your Mac from searching for your previous network which will no longer exist.
    A new Express creates an open wireless network that you must select before you can configure it. It appears in your Wi-Fi menu like this:
    Select it. AirPort Utility will load and walk you through its configuration.
    Edit: If you are really using OS X 10.5.1 as shown in your profile, the above screenshot is not applicable. Instead, select the network called "Apple network nnnnnn" and then launch AirPort Utility.

  • Problem creating webservice from existing code in sjse8

    I have a java class with three methods in an enterprise app (no ejbs) that I want to expose with webservice. In sudio5 I had no problem with webservice creation but in studio8 when I chose "From scratch, Use existing code", it gives me the opting to go to my class and select those methods. When I click finish, it generates an Implementation class that has declaration for my java class repeated 3 times which is obviously wrong and under it says:
    // Enter web service operations here. (Popup menu: Web Service->Add Operation)
    The class is empty.
    I choose "rpcliteral", "strict", "useonewayoperations" and "donotoverride" under web module property / webservice.
    And as you can guess it generates a wsdl file with no webservice methods info.
    I have and am checking all forums and searching different sites but haven't fond anything yet.
    I appreciate any help resolving this issue.

    Seems this feature doesn't work properly in jse and completely removed from latest nb55 enterprise pack (only session enterprise bean case remain)

    catch(Exception e)
    throw new JspException( e);
    %>
    </body>
    </html>

    I never really had much luck with this approach.
    Mind you I was using Crystal Reports 10, and as far as I recall it didn't allow setting/changing of database at this level.
    Things to check
    - can you create a database connection on your page with this URL/username/password?
    - what server are you using? Tomcat? WebLogic?
    I found this in your other post:
    Connection Information: {Server Name=ee6rpt, Connection String=DSN=s(ee6rpt);User ID=s(ee62test);Password=;UseDSNProperties=b(false), Database Name=, Database DLL=crdb_odbc.dll}That would indicate it is using odbc to connect to the database (crdb_odbc.dll). ODBC is a bad idea with java.
    The way I have got it to work for me (after much trial and error) was to in Crystal Reports to connect using the Oracle Driver, and specifying a tnsname - eg define REPORT_DS in tnsnames.ora.
    When running through the JRC, it looked for a JNDI datasource under that same name "REPORT_DS".
    Don't know if that will help you or not.
    Good luck,

  • How to use the pps function from JCOP?

    Hi
    I'm trying to use the pps function from JCTerminal (JCOP API: [url http://www.cs.ru.nl/~woj/jcopapi/com/ibm/jc/JCTerminal.html#pps(int, int)]pps function ) to connect my client to a virtual card with a specific protocol (T=0).
    But I always got the error: "Protocol and parameter selection not supported by this terminal!"
    I've tried to make an ATR that support both protocol : [url http://smartcard-atr.appspot.com/parse?ATR=3b909580811fc7dc]3B 90 95 80 81 1F C7 DC.
    I really don't know what value to put in the second parameter (baud rate), I've tried with 150000, which is in the range of the ATR but I'm not sure this is correct. And I could't find any example of it.
    I'm also not sure where to put the pps command, the specification say directly after a reset, so I tried this implementation:
    System.out.print("Start");
              readers = TerminalFactory.getDefault().terminals().list(State.CARD_PRESENT);
              //If no readers has a card it ends the process
              if(readers.isEmpty()){

                   return;
              System.out.println("\nReader Type: "+readers.get(0).toString());
              term = (PCSCJCTerminal)JCTerminal.getInstance("PCSC", readers.get(0).toString().substring(15));
              term.open();
              System.out.println("\nTerminal opened");
              //Getting the ATR
              atr = new ATR(term.waitForCard(2000));
              try {

              byte[] responsesend = term.send(0,cmdsend,0,cmdsend.length);
              System.out.println("Response data is:" + toHex(responsesend));

    I'm using a virtual terminal (windows driver), and I don't see how I could turn off the Auto-pps. I've also tried with a real reader and a card and I have the same error.
    -2
    I've tried value in the range of the atr (based on this analysis: [url http://smartcard-atr.appspot.com/parse?ATR=3b909580811fc7dc]http://smartcard-atr.appspot.com/parse?ATR=3b909580811fc7dc ). But I don't know if only I value of baud-rate is possible in the range. Anyway I just would like to change the protocol, not the baud-rate.

    I've already tried to call pps function before, after the first reset, or with another reset later and I always got the same thing.
              term = (PCSCJCTerminal)JCTerminal.getInstance("PCSC", readers.get(0).toString().substring(15));
              term.open();
              System.out.println("\nTerminal opened");
              //Getting the ATR
              atr = new ATR(term.waitForCard(2000));
              System.out.println("ATR: "+toHex(atr.getBytes()));
              jcard = new JCard(term,atr,0);
              jcard.reset();
              try {
                   term.pps(JCTerminal.PROTOCOL_T0, (int)312500);
              } catch (Exception e) {
                   e.printStackTrace();
              }The same pps is always send after each reset...

  • Not able to create a database link using the database gateway of oracle 11g

    HI,
    While trying to create a database link to SQL server from Oracle ,using the database gateway provided with 11g, i am getting the following error while making use of it in selecting columns from tables :
    Error starting at line 1 in command:
    select * from test1@dblink
    Error at Command Line:1 Column:20
    Error report:
    SQL Error: ORA-28513: internal error in heterogeneous remote agent
    ORA-02063: preceding line from DBLINK
    These are the steps i have followed for setting up:
    1.Ran the set up for the Database gateway.and mentioned the SQL server name and database .ALos set up a listener.
    2. Added the following in the Listener.ora of Oraclehome 11/NETWORK/ADMIN:
    LISTENER_SQL_FCD =
    (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST =localhost) (PORT = 1541)
    SID_LIST_LISTENER_SQL_FCD =
    (SID_LIST =
    (SID_DESC =
    (SID_NAME=dg4msql)
    (ORACLE_HOME= D:\app\20537\product\11.1.0\db_3)
    (PROGRAM=dg4msql)
    3.Added the following in tnsnames.ora inOracle home/NETWORK/ADMIN:
    dg4msql=
    (DESCRIPTION=
    (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=localhost)(PORT=1541))
    (CONNECT_DATA=(SID=dg4msql))
    (HS=OK)
    4. Following is the entry in initdg4msql.ora in C:\product\11.1.0\tg_5\dg4msql\admin:
    HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO=10.148.45.242:1433//SalesDemo
    HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL=DEBUG
    HS_FDS_RECOVERY_ACCOUNT=RECOVER
    HS_FDS_RECOVERY_PWD=RECOVER
    5. Created the database link :
    create database link dblink
    connect to "sa" identified by "<pswd>"
    using 'dg4msql'
    On running :select * from test1@dblink i get the following error:
    Error starting at line 1 in command:
    select * from test1@dblink
    Error at Command Line:1 Column:20
    Error report:
    SQL Error: ORA-28513: internal error in heterogeneous remote agent
    ORA-02063: preceding line from DBLINK
    Is there any issue with the set or definition that I get the above error?

    What is the version of the Oracle database in which you have specified/and use the database link?
    If it is for example 10.2.0.3.0 you need to apply the mandatory patch for RDBMS bug 5965763 first before being able to use an 11g gateway. Have a look at MetaLink note 457808.1 for details about this patch.

    Ed

    I have Pages 09 and I have  created a business card using the template but can't figure out how to duplicate it to the other 9 spaces on the page. I am and sure I am going to look daft coz its only the click of a button but I can't work it out Thanks

    I do the following: Hold down the command key and highlight all the items to be reproduced. Then hold down option and drag the items from the first to each subsequent card.
