Problems creating playlists on iPod Touch

Besides the issues of the ridiculous DRM, when I synch my new iPod Touch to the "registered" computer, I am unable to create playlists, on the iPod, to sort the music with. On my other iPod (the "classic" version) I can create new playlists by either clicking on "file" then "new playlist" or the "+" sign at the bottom of iTunes with no problems; not so with this newest iPod Touch.
Instead all these features are "grayed out" and unusable on the iPod. I'm hoping someone has a resolution to this and can help. Thanks.
Dan

Upgrading to the 3.0 software has an answer for you.
I've been asking this same question of how to create video playlists on an iTouch since I first tried to sync my iTouch (1st gen), and all of my personal videos/playlists, with iTunes. A simple alphabetical list under Movies is not what you would expect from such a cool handheld video player - and Apple, but that's all that you got. I read in another thread in this forum that other video iPods had video playlist capabilities, but not the iTouch. What an oversight - bigger than no cut and paste in my opinion.
But if you pay the $9.95 for the 3.0 software JUST for finally getting your iTouch to recognize and play your video playlists, know this - it stinks. It's definitely not a fully thought out and developed feature - which is probably why it doesn't make any of Apple's marketing hoopla about 3.0
It's not a fully thought out feature because you go to your Music button/tab to view your video playlists. Duh? - the Music button?, why not the Videos button? Your iTouch with 3.0 sees them as just another music playlist. You don't even get the little video screen icon with your video playlist. You finally get that icon when you select the video playlist - if you named it well and remember which playlist to select. Oh well, at least the iTouch is *FINALLY SUPPORTING video playlists* - just go to your Music library to find them.
If you want to use your iTouch as a fully functioning video player to quickly access your personal videos and show them off, let me know, I'm working on an app.

  • "Recently added" playlist on iPod Touch problem

I don't know what happened but suddenly my recently added playlist on iPod Touch stopped sorting my songs as they were added (by date) they are all random now. It's pretty annoying since sometimes i just want to listen the the previously imported songs and it's impossible to find them.
Now, as for the recently added playlist on my iTunes, they appear sorted the way i like them.
Does anyone know how can I tell my iPod to sort my songs this way?
    Thanks

This is a known bug with the 3.1.x OS. As a workaround, either go into the playlist definition and un-check "Live Updating", or you can add some criteria that intentionally breaks Live Updating (e.g. add the criteria "Playlist Is Music", where "Music" is the general iTunes folder for music items).

Can't Sync Playlists from iPod Touch to New Library
I just upgraded from an old Pentium computer to a new Dell XPS 18 running Windows 8.1.  Downloaded latest version of iTunes to the new computer, then successfully transferred library content from the old computer to the new one via the external hard drive method.  All material -- iTunes purchases, music ripped from CDs, a movie, even MP3 files purchased long ago from another source -- transferred successfully; everything plays on the new computer just fine.
My problem is that the "old" playlists didn't transfer over.  After connecting my iPod Touch to the new computer, I verified that the iPod has the latest version of iOS, and its content (including the old/original playlists) displays in the window on the left-hand side of the iTunes screen.  The really frustrating thing is that I can find no way to transfer the old playlists to my new iTunes library.  I've tried dragging and dropping, selecting and pasting, and exploration of all the options menus, but no luck.  Creating a new playlist in the new library and then clicking on the "Add To" button opens up a window into which to drop dragged songs/folders from the new library listing, but simultaneously closes the left-hand display window with all of my iPod's current playlists depicted.
I appear successfully to have backed up my iPod to the new computer, but all the sync menu options are grayed out.  When I tried clicking on the Sync button, I got a warning that syncing to the new library would erase everything from the old library -- presumably obliterating my playlists with it.  I have about a dozen different playlists, some of them with several hundred songs, drawn from a library of a few thousand individual items.  Is there some means of importing/transferring the old playlists to the new computer/library, so that I don't manually have to drag and drop hundreds and hundreds of songs into a new set of playlists?  Am I overlooking something really obvious or simple?  Can I safely turn on Home Sharing and then import or paste the old playlists into the new computer's library.  I don't think I'm too much of a Luddite, but given the size of my library I'm very leery of turning on Home Sharing (to the old Pentium computer) after I've successfully transferred over many GBs of content from the old machine to the new.

  • Can I create Playlist in IPod Shuffle.

    Dear All,
Kindly let me know if I will be able to create playlist in Ipod Shuffle , If Yes then how do I access Playlist in ipod Shuffle during Playback ?
    Thank you.

You CAN create multiple playlists in iTunes and then load them onto the shuffle BUT you CAN'T select which playlist to play while using the shuffle... you can only play music serially (eg play-in-order mode) or randomly (eg shuffle mode).

  • Hello, I have a problem 4th with my iPod touch

    Hello,
I have a problem 4th with my iPod touch
I just wanted to edit a picture, and then he is always crashed.
Hope someone can tell me what to do.
    THX, Soundwave1409

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

  • I have a problem updating the new ipod touch 5th generation

I have a problem updating the new ipod touch 5th generation and I need help:
With each attempt I receive the message:
iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode.  You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes.
The iPod only displays a USB cable with an arrow pointing to an iTunes logo.
I receive a "Are you sure..." message with the 2 options, one to Restore and Update and the other to Cancel.
Each time I have selected the Restore and Update button and then moved through the acceptance screens.  Then iTunes begins to download the iOS 6.0.1 Software Update, which usually takes about 50 minutes.  During the download I will receive messages that an iPod has been found in restore mode.
After the download is complete no update occurs to the iPod and iTunes displays the Device Summary screen showing derive Name as iPod and all other items as n/a.
The iPod was working great without any known issues prior to attempting to update the OS.

    Maybe:
iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server

Error 1004, 1013, 1638, 3194: These errors may be the result of the connection to gs.apple.com being redirected or blocked. Follow these steps to resolve these errors:
Install the latest version of iTunes.
Check security software. Ensure that communication to gs.apple.com is allowed. Follow this article for assistance with security software. iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting security software issues.
Check the hosts file. The restore will fail if there is an active entry to redirect gs.apple.com. Follow iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting to edit the hosts file or revert to a default hosts file. See section "Blocked by configuration: (Mac OS X/Windows) > Rebuild network information".
Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.
If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

    Hello jose mariofromsan luis potosi,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature of the issue you are describing. If you are saying that your iOS devices are not showing up in iTunes on your Windows computer, you may find the troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article helpful:

On the other hand, if you are saying that your devices are only showing a Connect To iTunes icon screen, then this article may be more useful:

  • How do I sync the playlists I created on my iPod touch to my iTunes on my computer?

How do I sync the playlists I created on my iPod to my iTunes on my computer?

By syncing. The users manual says:
New and changed playlists are copied to your iTunes library the next time you sync iPod touch with your computer, or via iCloud if you’ve subscribed to iTunes Match.
You have to sync, not manage music manually in iTunes.

  • ITunes deleted songs/videos/playlists from iPod touch and won't sync them onto iPod, but songs can still be played on iTunes however I just can't transfer them back onto my iPod. HELP!

Hey, so I'm wondering if any of you can help me with this issue, I'd be unbelievably grateful for any help, I can't resolve it and I dislike my long commute without my iPod to listen to! Thanks in advance
HOW IT HAPPENED: I had my iPod touch (32GB, 3rd generation) plugged into a speaker charging whilst playing music, and simultaneously I had iTunes (latest version for windows) open on my laptop (Dell - Windows). My iPod started to sync wirelessly with iTunes on my laptop and my music suddenly cut off.
WHAT HAPPENED: Once the sync had finished, all (almost 4000) songs (and videos) had been wiped off my iPod (including any playlists) with the exception of less than thirty songs, all of which I'd noticed were songs I'd purchased on the iTunes store, a seemingly random selection though - some from a couple of months ago, some from a couple of years ago.
I closed down everything on my laptop and restarted both laptop, iTunes and iPod then plugged my iPod in to sync. My iTunes library on my laptop is fully intact, complete with playlists, and I'm able to play songs normally from there, however despite numerous attempts, they just won't sync onto my iPod. Interestingly, no apps were deleted from my iPod. There's plenty of room on my iPod now, and even when everything on my iTunes library is synced onto it, there's still around 3GB space, so it can't be an issue to do with lack of space. I have no idea why it's happened, and the settings are for everything on iTunes to be synced to my iPod (I checked again) so it's not an issue with selective items to sync only either.
A huge thank-you to anyone who can help me!

I have the same problem!! only thing is that i have the ipod touch 5th generation and a mac. I've been trying to find a way to get all my music to play cuz it will only play on itunes but when i try to play it on my ipod it'll just show a circle with a red square in the middle next to the songs i cant play.

  • Problem syncing video to iPod Touch

I am trying to sync a video (.mp4) to my iPod Touch and it will not sync. I tried selecting the video in iTunes and then clicking Advanced>Create iPod or iPhone Version, but that option is greyed out (presumably because the video is already in an acceptable format for the iTouch).
I tried updating both my iTunes software and the software on my iTouch - and retried the steps above but no joy. The option is still greyed out.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

  • Smart Playlist Sync - iPod Touch vs iPhone

I have an iPod Touch (4th Gen on iOS 6.1.5) and an iPhone 5s (iOS 7.0.4) A smart playlist was created to include songs that had a last played date on or before a criteria date.  If new song(s) are added, these have no last played date, and will appear in the smartplaylist as expected.  However, these new songs will appear in the smartplay list on the iPod, but not on the iPhone.  Anyone else having this issue, and is there a fix

so it is possible then, if for instance, someone bought an iphone, and now there service has been terminated, so it's basically just got no cell service. Like some people who maybe didn't pay there bills or something like that, or didn't continue there service, whatever the case may be. I didn't know it had to be activated, but once it is, is it even possible the service provider could de activate it. I think there are people out there selling these things for teh above mentioned reasons, i would think.

  • How to import events created on my iPod touch iCal into my computer's iCal?

    Hi,
I have an iPod touch and and MacBook Pro; I find that the "sync" that occurs between the two, via my iTunes application, seems one-way (from my computer to my iPod). I would like to have events created on my iPod (while out and about) to be added/adjusted into my computer's iCal; essentially, why is the sync between the two devices not a mutual exchange, and how can I change the import/export settings?

By syncing. The users manual says:
