Problems cropping white border against white background

I'm trying to crop photos that have white edges and I'm doing it against iphoto's white background. I found the area in preferences where you can change the background to various shades of gray and black, but when I change the background to black, it doesn't change the background of the photo I'm editing, it darkens the backgrounds of the row of photos at the top of the iphoto window. Does anyone know how I can darken the background of the photo I'm editing?

Paul:
Try cropping in the Full Screen mode as the background there is black.

  • Problem: Image fill creates white border that obscures slide background

    Dear group,
I'm writing on behalf of someone who has a presentation to make soon and who is working in haste. When he uses the "image fill" option on the slide inspector, there's a white border that seems to obstruct the rest of the slide background. Do you have any suggestions for working around this?
    Many thanks!

He could simply paste the image directly onto the slide (or slide master) rather than using an image fill.

  • Problem with white border around images

    Hey guys,
I'm new to the creative suite and have just finished running through all of the video tutorials, etc. I'm having a small problem which can be seen in the sample site I'm fooling around with here:
    http://www.andrewedunn.com/gsd/
I'd like to get rid of the small white border around the "GS" logo. It is an illustrator document.
Basically I put the letters in place, converted them to paths (so I can resize it) and dropped it in my GoLive document as a smart object.
A google such suggested rasterizing, but I couldn't get it to work after fooling with it a little bit.
Further, if I wanted to add a drop shadow to it, how can I do it so that it is transparent on top of the background images in golive? The one time I tried it, the drop shadow was placed on top of a white background.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Are your background images always going to be displayed left-aligned on a black background and always the same size, so that the left half of the logo will always be over the photo and the right half will always be over the black? Or will the size or placement of the photos vary?
Are all of the photographs in approximately the same moderate tonal range, or will some be bright and some dark?
If the background will be consistently as you show it, you should be able to anti-alias your logo against a medium gray on the left and black on the right for acceptable results. If the background is more varied, you are not going to get good results with either GIF or JPG format.

    > Further, if I wanted to add a drop shadow to it, how can I do it so that it is transparent on top of the background images in golive?
Only by exporting as a transparent PNG, but then older browers won't display it properly.
If you are really needing to have a logo that casts transparent drop shadows on top of a wide variety of images, you might consider going the Flash route, even though you aren't planning animation. Flash has very good transparency handling, and there are Flash player plugins that are compatible with browsers that won't display PNG images.

  • White border problem when zooming with SWF in PDF

    Hi Everyone,
I have posted my original querry in the Indesign forum:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5176893#5176893
I'm having problems with zooming whedn trying to create a PDF with SWF inserted.. at certain levels of zoom I get a white border on the left and right of the document which squashes the content into the middle and makes it a little pixelated.  I also get a thin white border on the right when zooming out.  Does anyone have any ideas where I might be going wrong?
    Thanks,
    Em

Not wishing to be rude, but that workflow is not supposed to be used that way.
InDesign's ability to export SWFs is intended for showing the file in a Web page, and Acrobat's ability to embed SWFs is only intended for small annotations placed within the pages of a conventional PDF file. By placing the entire Layout as a SWF you are in effect playing the entire thing as a movie in Flash Player - all the advantages of the PDF format are completely lost, there is no vector-rendering of any content or text, and users will find it very hard to understand what's going on (the navigation buttons in Acrobat or Reader will not work, text is not searchable or accessible, multiple pages cannot be printed, etc.).
It's not entirely trivial to do this 'correctly', as at the moment we don't have full support in the PDF standard for all the interactive features that InDesign can apply to page objects - that's why they are grouped into PDF and non-PDF in the various selection menus in InDesign. Rather than saving as a SWF you should be using Export to Interactive PDF, and ensuring that the various interactive items and media are all selected on the export dialog.
Basic stuff such as links and video will export just fine that way, and the PDF will preserve everything else in the Layout as native text or graphics so it'll look fine, navigate properly and be searchable. Animations and buttons will not work as expected, so you may have to revise their behavior if PDF is your intended output destination.

  • White border in cell when adding background colour.

In Numbers for Mac. When I add a background color there is a white border inside the cell. How do I have the entire cell filled with the colour? I go through, the 'format'menu, 'text','layout', 'border' and 'background colour'.

Use the Cell tab to apply a fill color to the cell instead of applying a background color to the text.

  • Cropping, White border..don't want it!

When I try cropping pics on Photoshop Elements, it puts a white frame around the pic. Sometimes its not around the whole photo. It really depends on how I crop it. Do you know why this happens and how to fix it? I may just crop it in the original canon software and then edit using it photoshop but wanted to see if there is a way around it. Thanks!!!!

If I crop off all sides of the photo, the white border will be on all 4 sides. However, if I do not crop off on all 4 sides and go to the edge of the sides on two sides and then crop it off on the other 2 sides, it only has the white border on the 2 sides that are cropped.

  • My iphone 6's white border is cracked. Will there be any problem with it?

WIll there be any problem with cracked white borde not the screen?

The warranty for the iPhone is not and has never been International.
Warranty and support are ONLY valid in the country of origin.  The only exception is the EU where the entire EU is treated as one country.
If the device will be used in India, buy it in India.
An unlocked iPhone will work on any supported GSM carrier world wide.  The LTE portion of a US purchased, unlocked iPhone is unlikely to work outside North America as it does not support the appropriate bands used in other countries.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. The link to the site is broken. There is a fix for some of the strange goings on since the MobileMe conversion. See Wyodor's post in this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1605665&tstart=0. After applying the fix to iWeb I found I might have to republish a second time, occasionally a third and make sure I cleared my browser's cache.
If you're using Firefox 3 that's a different solution that can be found here: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=7486799#7486799
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • How can I create a white border around figures that are in an image? (CS 6; examples+image included)

    Hi,
I have CS6 and am wondering how to create a white ("comic style"?) border around figures in an image, as in the examples below. I don't wish to include the black shadow of the border, just the white part.
    Examples:
Here's the image I'd like to alter, making a white border around the outline of all five figures:
I researched for quite a while but could find no instructions. It would be very much appreciated if someone knows and would be kind enough to share the technique! Thank you.

If you make the image a layer (opposed to Background)...
You could Select the blue with the Magic Wand as Semaphoric says, then fill with white.  Then choose Select - Modify Selection - Contract, and mask or delete the remaining pixels.  The Contract operation will give you a nice border the size you choose.
For extra credit, you could use Refine Edge to make the selection more accurate.
Click to see the image  against a dark background.

  • White border in pdf preview of bleed doc

    Hi,
As the attached image shows I get a thin white border on my pdf preview of a document that has a 3mm bleed. I have tried to increase the bleed to 5mm but with same result. I've also tried to exceed the black background outside the bleed marks in InDesign - no result. The pdf is exported with document is generated I'm stuck. Why do I get this annoying thin white border when previewing the pdf document? The people I'm sending this to thinks its something wrong and even if this should turn out to be in preview mode only its ruining my work as everyone else is asking about it when looking at the pdf. Use Document Bleed settings is ticked.

You mentioned trying to increase the bleed areas by dragging the black box larger, but are you actually specifying the larger bleed when exporting the PDF
Also, you mention Bleed Marks rather than Crop Marks.
Crop marks show where the page will be trimmed and this is what the printer needs to see.
Bleed marks are essentially useless. they only show the edge of the bleed, but give NO indication where the printer should trim to
Your black screenshots are hard to decipher, but the Magenta box in your 2nd screenshot only shows the margins on the inside of the page.
Unless you have set the margins to 0, the magenta margin box will always be smaller that the page (the final trim size which is what the Crop marks are for)
Have you accidently set a Slug area larger than the bleed? This is only way I can get the white space to show.
The example below used greatly exaggerated settings to better show some issues.I greatly increased the bleed area to swallow the Crop marks and then included the Slug area to show the white.(slugs are not always used or even needed)
The Magenta box are the margins inside the page.
The Red box is the bleed area.
The Crop marks in between these two are what the printer need to cut on to produce the final page size.
Click on the image below to see a larger version with more detail.
P,S, you mentioned about not being able to print the bleeds. If you have bleeds and crops that will make the final PDF size larger than your desktop printer can print, just select FIT or REDUCE OVERSIZE PAGE in the print dialog and it will print on your printer. Of course it will not be to 100 scale, but it will show all the elements in the PDF.

  • White Border

Hi, I am trying to make continuos image on the paper book cover . I have cropped the image in photoshop and pasted into the cover and flap sections - so far so good. However when I preview the book there is always a white band about 1/4 inch wide down the edge of the cover and the front flap.
the join with the back flap looks fine. Has anyone else noticed this? Is there a workaround for this? I have tried repositioning the images to no effect.
    Thanks for reading.
    k

Hi, I have made a screen grab of this but cannot see anyway of uploading an image!
All that is happening is that there is a white vertical strip between the cover image and the front flap. This is only visible when I preview the image as a pdf. I don't know how better to describe this.( I am trying to make continuous image across the dust cover.)
The rear flap seems fine - no white border. I have tried different themes all with the same result. I would be extremely interested if anyone else has encountered this problem or could suggest a solution
    Thanks

  • Removing a white border around the Extension I'm building

    Hi,
I have a CS Extension that I'm building, and while working on the UI I have noticed that there is a white line all around the extension, which I cannot get rid of. I've attached a screenshot showing an example of this white border.
See under the PUBLISH button is this white border. I have set the height and width in the Application tag of my app to 100%, but this does not remove the border. Does anyone know what the problem could be and how to get rid of it?
    Stephen

Yes. There's a couple of pixels arounf the swf that you can't do much about.
Make the background color of your extension match the color of the panel, and noone will notice...

skottish, thank you so much! At least I found where to search thing to fix.
There was one problem with you solution - if you change window.client.padding lines to the zero, you will lost ability to resize terminal window. The best fix is to change this lines:
    window.active.client.color: #XXXXXX
    window.active.client.color: #XXXXXX
and set #000000 or what would you like.
Anyway, thanks again, you gave me a key to solution!

  • Removing White Border

Hey, I'm new to Elements 10 and am experiencing my first real problem.  I have a fun printer that allows me to print photos onto photo paper and I was experimenting with a couple photos.  My problem: They are printing with an annoying white border and I cannot figure out how to get rid of it.  If anyone could please shed some light onto this matter, I would greatly appreciate it.  Thanks.

To add to Mark's post, not all printers will print borderless, so check the documentation. If your printer is ok for borderless, follow these steps:
Go to File>print in Editor. I never print from the Organizer.
In the dialog that comes up, go to #2 Printer Settings
Click on change settings, then advanced settings
    Tick the box for Borderless
Under #3 for Paper type, be sure to select the borderless option for your size paper stock
Crop the picture to the dimensions of the paper stock before you send it to the printer.
This same issue came up yesterday and was resolved by implementing these measures.
