Problems deleting in Mail

Any thoughts on how I solve this annoying problem? When I click on a single Mail item to delete it sometimes more than one item is deleted. This is not consistent...often it is fine, other times it deletes two or even three or four items in rapid succession which I then have to retrieve from trash (I have to notice it has happened in the first place which is what's worrying me). Problem doesn't seem to be result of different pressure on the keys or any other logical reason, it's completely random. Been happening for two weeks.

Search for 'Deleted Messages.mbox' in a Finder window with 'system files included'.
This will bring up a folder for each email account you hold plus an additional one.
You will need to follow the paths for each folder. It's a bit tedious. The emails will be named '12345.emlx' and you should be able to get a preview of them without opening Mail. Just move them to trash.
I regularly find emails that I deleted weeks and months ago. I thought they might be taken care of by the maintenance scripts, but they're not.
Remember that you are tinkering around with system files here so be careful. Make sure Mail is closed, make sure you have a working back-up, and make sure you definitely don't need what you're deleting!

Does anyone know why it wont let me delete emails from my AOL account? When i try they will disappear and in a few seconds I get the pop up message that the email could not be moved to trash. Then the email reappears. Anyone know how to resolve this problem?

Essentially, you can correct it by going to Settings > Mail, Contacts & Calendars > select your AOL account > Advanced > Deleted Mailbox > if the On My iPhone entry does not say Trash, change it to Trash. If it already says Trash, tap on the Trash entry one time. From then on you should be able to delete messages with your AOL account once again.

Problem deleting e-mail (folder return newest messages first, older last)

I made a program, using javamail, to accomplish a quite sofisticated mail forward.
I read a specific mailbox, I read each message in the INBOX, and in some conditions (I read the content, get a predefined field containing a product ID, read a database and check if the price is high) I forward the e-mail.
Then I delete the forwarded email from the inbox.<br>
I am using pop3 & smtp, and I have First Class from Centrinity as Mail Server.
The problem I have is the following:
1) in the messages array filled with Message[] messages = folder.getMessages() I get the newest messages first, the older last.
2) I scan the array, and, based on the Item price (as explained before) I delete some messages: messages(i).setFlag(Flags.Flag.DELETED,true)
3) messages are phisically deleted only when the folder INBOX is closed: folder.close(true)
4) if new messages arrives before closing the INBOX, THE WRONG MESSAGES ARE DELETED!.
Example:
- I have 3 messages in the inbox;
- the program start;
- I process the message number 1, I forward it, I delete it;
- I process the message number 2, no forward, no delete;
- (a new message "NEW" arrive now);
- I process the message number 3, no forward, no delete;
- I close the folder
- THE NEW MESSAGE IS DELETED!!!!!!
I am sure this is because of the ordering of the messages, but I cannot figure out a safe deletion while new messages arrives (and I cannot think I can't solve this problem: no pop3 client should exists!!)

Junk Mail - On My Mac - Problem Deleting Junk Mail

In the Junk Mail box, there are two sub-folders under it. One says "On My Mac" the other says "Home". The main junk mailbox looks empty. The "On My Mac" mailbox looks emtpy too, but there is an icon next to the folder that says there are 95 messages in there. When I select the folder and go to "Erase Junk Mail" nothing happens. Still nothing is appearing in the main window, but the little icon still shows 95! That number keeps getting bigger too.
How do I get rid of those once and for all. And I kinda want to see them to make sure they are really junk.

I don't have time this morning, before having to go to two church services, to stay with you, but will later in the day.
I need to know all the types of accounts you have. It appears you have at least one .mac account, and one IMAP account. The later is based on the report of the Junk (home).mbox in the Mailboxes folder. With a POP account, the Junk.mbox would properly be in the account folder, and not in the Mailboxes folder.
Regardless of that, the Junk(.mac account).mbox should be at the first level of the Mailboxes folder, and not WITHIN a plain Junk folder. With this structure so mixed up, it is possible to have important messages that you have not seen.

That's how IMAP mail works. If you delete it on one device (your iPhone), it deletes it on the others (on your computer in Outlook).

If your hard drive is getting full, you need to free up, at least, 20 GBs of space on your iMac's hard drive.
If your Mac is running a fairly recent version of OS X, here are some general guidelines.
Follow some of my tips for cleaning out, deleting and archiving data from your Mac's internal hard drive.
Have you emptied your iMac's Trash icon in the Dock?
If you use iPhoto, iPhoto has its own trash that needs to be emptied, also.
If you use Apple Mail app, Apple Mail also has its own trash area that needs to be emptied, too!
Other things you can do to gain space.
Delete any old or no longer needed emails and/or archive to disc, flash drives or external hard drive, older emails you want to save.
Look through your Documents folder and delete any type of old useless type files like "Read Me" type files.
Again, archive to disc, flash drives, ext. hard drives or delete any old documents you no longer use or immediately need.
Download an app called OnyX for your version of OS X.
When you install and launch it, let it run the automatic ans S.M,A.R.T. tests, then go to the cleaning and maintenance tabs and run the tabs that have the ability to clean out all web browser cache files, web browser histories, system cache files, delete old error log files.
Typically, iTunes and iPhoto libraries are the biggest users of HD space.
move these files/data off of your internal drive to the external hard drive and deleted off of the internal hard drive.
If you have any other large folders of personal data or projects, these should be archived or moved, also, to the optical discs, flash drives or external hard drive and then either archived to disc and/or deleted off your internal hard drive.

Background: I recently (December) bought an ipad and set up icloud for contacts and calendar, but NOT mail. My email provider is Verizon. I use computer, iphone, and ipad to check my email; eventually I download it from the server using Outlook on the computer and then delete any remaining emails from the phone and ipad. I can't find info on this problem anywhere.

It sounds like your iPad all of a sudden seems to be restarting out of no where. If you haven't called AppleCare yet, I would start with quitting either the app that seems to be causing the issue, or all the apps if a single doesn't seem to be the culprit.
iOS: Force an app to close
Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that restart the device and test the issue again:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
If the issue persists, backup your device to iTunes, then restore it as new and verify that it works.
How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups
If it does, then restore your backup to either verify it still works and the software just needed reinstalled, or isolate the issue to the backup file itself.

Problems deleting mail

Been using Mail for a LONG time. Currently have version 4.5. This week I started having problems deleting some messages (not all) using the delete button at the top of the Mail menu. I found I can delete using my right mouse button. Any ideas why I'm having this issue? Thanks ahead of time!

I get that every once in a while on my 3GS, and that's what I do to get rid of it. Probably not a bad idea to power down the phone every so often, anyway, gets rid of any crud waiting to cause a bug.

Problems deleting mail from apple mail under mountain lion

I'm a little baffled by the way that the DELETE function works on Mail in Mountain Lion. When I delete a mail from "All Inboxes" it appears to remain in the individual inbox. I have GMAIL and Mac.com mail being gathered into apple mail. I should note that I have GMAIL pulling apple mail into GMAIL, but it's supposed to delete it from Mac.com once the mail is pulled into GMAIL.
Any ideas?

Mail is backed up automatically. If you make backups automatically, open Mail application and then, open the Time Machine app (in /Applications/Utilities). You will access to the Time Machine interface, and you will be able to see all your mails of all the backups you have, and you will be able to restore them. Mail app will not open at all. I cannot even delete a mail account. Wondering if daylight savings time has caused an issue.

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folders. In OS X 10.9 there are two sandboxes, while in 10.8 there is only one. If you're running a version older than 10.8, this comment isn't applicable.
Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select

You do not need to use cleaning programs. They can destroy your computer operation as they may already have done.

Do a backup.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

How to delete all mail in IPAD 1 and keep mail untouched in Gmail server.

How can I delete IPAD1 mail while keeping original mail at the server ? The problem is that when removing mail from my GMail account on my IPad1 the original is also removed from the Server. I want to free thousands of mails listed on my IPad Google account saturating and congesting my tablet but without deleting the original emails at the server. Sorry to repeat. But I want my problem be clearly stated.However I would like to receive a copy of the mail I get in the server, so that I can trash everyday's copies without touching my Gmail account at the server. It has been some time since I used POP3 on my iPad, it is just not a very good way to manage email between multiple devices. There is no check mark to simply change the Gmail account from IMAP to POP on the iPad. You will have to delete the account from the iPad removing all the email already stored on it. Once you have changed the server settings at Gmail you have to re-create the account on the iPad. Now that it is POP3 you should have a setting in the iPads settings to not delete the emails from the server when deleting them from the iPad. Once the new account is created on the iPad all the email on the server will download again and have to be deleted from the iPad. You will have to reset other devices as well, although Gmail may be able to handle both settings at the same time but they may conflict.
For your use, you may simply want to just use Gmail through Safari where you will be viewing your email directly from the server through the web browser. No messages are stored on your iPad, they are all managed on the server through your web browser. There is also a Gmail app available which may also leave all the messages on the server although I have not experience with the app.
When I had an email account set to POP3 I had the iPhone and iPad set to not delete messages from the server when I deleted them from the device. I had my home computer set to remove them from the server when they were deleted from there. It does work although each device is independent, reading a message on 1 device would not mark it as read on the other device. I ended up having to administer the email on 3 different devices even though they were the same account.
