Problems displaying Korean fonts

Hello,
I have the latest version of Adobe Reader (9.3.4) and have installed the Korean font pack from Adobe Update link. However I am not able to display Korean fonts properly. Some are good but most are junk. But the same file can be displayed without any issue with google docs.
Please help. I have inserted a screenshot with this message :
as you can see, some fonts are good but some are garbage.
Any help or leads would be much appreciated.

I have also tested the application in some PCs with Windows and the visualization problems are significantly lower.

Document properties has not fonts listed and not able to display korean font

Hi,
I have a korean PDF file which I am using Adobe Acrobet 9 Pro to view the file. When I open the file, the text is all in not-standard characters. An example looks like the following:
I tried to search to see if I am missing installing the font for Acrobet, but couldn't really find anything. Then, I checked the file properties, under the Font tab, it did not list anything.
I want to ask if anyone would know why the PDF file is not displaying the font properly? and is there anyting I can do to fix it?

Problem displaying small fonts

I am working with the default font in my Flex app. When the
font is set above size 8, everything looks fine and as expected.
But when I make the font size = 8, the text goes blurry and grayed
out, looking the same as if the enabled property were set to false.
If I set the Windows smooth edging option to ClearType (Control
Panel, Display properties, Appearance tab, Effects button), the
problem goes away and small font sizes look fine. This is not the
default setting in Windows, so any user would have to set this
themselves to view the Flex app correctly, so that's out of the
question.
Is there some sort of setting to fix the way small fonts are
displayed? I tried the fontAntiAliasing property at "normal" and at
"advanced" at the Application level, with no luck with either. I'm
currently setting the fontWeight to bold for all size 8 text, and
it does the trick, but I'd prefer not having bold text everywhere.
Any help is always much appreciated.

You need to use a UNICODE font and one that is not Licensed, CR will not embed licensed fonts into PDF files. Odd that it doesn't work in Word though.
Not sure what OS you are using but in XP go into Control Panel, Regional and Language Options and click on the Advanced tab and check on the option to Apply all setting to.... in the default user account area. Then go to the Languages tab and check on the option to Install Files for east asian languages. We have a dependency on that option as of R2. It adds about 10 meg of files so you'll need your Windows CD.

Reports Builder - problem displaying Korean characters

Client-server setup (database 10G unicode AMERICAN_AMERICA.AL32UTF8, client Windows XP AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8ISO8859P1) and users have no trouble viewing characters in the application using forms.
But running the reports through Reports Builder creates inverted question marks instead of Korean characters. The reports are not displayed on the screen, but saved into *.csv file on the server.
My question:
1. Is Reports Builder Unicode compliant?
2. If yes - where and how do we set up the correct NLS_LANG?
3. If not - what is the solution?

What version of Reports Builder / Developer Suite?
You are not running the same report through a Reports server?
In a general sense, for oci apps, there's a conversion from database character set to client character set when retrieving the data (to match client environment/locale), and likewise a conversion to the database character set when storing character data.
With Korean (Hangul) characters in the db, these characters should be converted to replacement character such as inverted question mark (¿) when retrieved to a client with character set Latin-1 (iso 8859-1) - since its repertoire includes no Korean characters.
So, if the client side os is code page 949, you could try indicating a client character set of KO16MSWIN949. (You could try also by "lying" if the code page is different, but then you need to take care to set NLS_LANG as needed as it might affect other apps.)

Korean font not displaying correctly. Internationalization Issue

I'm not sure if this is an internationalization issue but I have an Adobe Air project that isn't displaying Korean correctly. I basically have created a MovieClip in Flash CC with a textfield child. When this movieclip is instanced in Air, it's text is dynamically assigned from a web service. The font used works fine except for Korean so we had to switch fonts when using Korean text. This is where things get interesting. If I try to programmatically change the textformat.font to use the Korean font, the font switches but just the Korean characters aren't supported. However if I set the textfield's font to the Korean one in Flash CC, everything displays fine. The font is embedding the same in both instances and is including 'All' characters.
I'm not sure if this is a bug or if I have to add a flag for Korean support somewheres in the build settings. I've created work around for now which has two textfields, one with the font we need and one for korean only. As the data from the webservice is parsed it detects for Korean characters in the string and if it finds them it makes sure the Korean textfield is used. Kind of a dirty way to do it but it doesn't seem to like changing the font family around.
Anyone else notice this?

I overwrote the code since it was only a couple lines but here's what I was doing for the way that broke

The font changes because english characters showed up, however even though I click embed all fonts, korean characters do not display. I have to set the font on the textfield using the Flash CC tools and it works fine.

Korean Font Problem

Here's the thing.
im using macromedia flash8
i need to use korean characters in my fla file.
everything is fine _if only_ the settings in the windows xp's
Regional and Language Options > Advanced > Language for
non-Unicode programs
is set to Korean.
but by using that setting, there is other problem in other
part of the windows.( the backslash \ path separator becomes Won
currency sign).
But if i set that to English. and i opened a fla file
containing korean characters. it warned me for Missing Font. Tried
subtituting it with other korean fonts (no luck) all the korean
characters becomes boxes. and for the info most of the korean
characters are used in the script / actions panel. the korean
characters are fine if i type them with text tool in the stage. but
not on the script panel.
So is there any way to fix that? or any way to change the
font for the texts in script / actions panel?

These are not font issues, they are encoding mismatches, where names are either not in Unicode as required by OS X or are somehow being read in the wrong encoding. It is not uncommon with mp3 files imported from Windows, which often uses different encodings than Mac. The zip utility also botches encodings sometimes.
Try to make sure all the id3 tags are in Unicode before transferring and avoid zipping/unzipping and see if that helps.

Itunes displaying gibberish for korean font

Everytime I import Korean songs, the font turns into gibberish, and I have no idea how to fix it. Even when I try to edit the song info and manually type it in, it cannot display Korean.
I am quite sure I have the language installed on my computer (it displays Korean in the music folder).
I think this has something to do with tagging or unicode, which I don't quite understand.
I am running Windows 7, Ultimate version. Please help!!

ok, so I also just discovered: when I right click on the song, it will show Korean!! At the top it says "Pause song name" in Korean, but itunes has boxes, and sometimes weird symbols. Someone please help -_-;

Problems displaying fonts

Hello.
I am developing my first application using JavaFX 2.2 and I am not able to get a good visualization of the texts. The majority of texts in the application are displayed using Label controls, and I have read that, since Javafx 2.1, font rendering has been improved, including anti-aliasing and subpixel LCD treatment. However, I see some problems in my fonts, like wrong letter glyphs, unexpected colors etc.
As Linux is my execution environment, I have tried to configure fonts in the system through Gnome options, but it does not seem to affect to the application. I have also checked that my FreeType version is quite modern and I have changed the configuration of the fonts.conf, but neither it worked.
I have tested some JVM parameters, like -Dawt.useSystemAAFontSettings, but it only works if the graphical aceleration is disabled, so it is not a solution for me.
The only thing that I can configure and seems to affect to the application is the antialiasing level in the NVidia controls, but it has the drawback that the smoothing is lost and the overall result is even worse.
The operating system is a RHEL 6.2 and the grhaphic card an NVidia Quadro 2000D. The JavaFX version I am using is the 2.2 Developer Preview b19 and the fonts in the application are Arial and Consolas.
As I have read in the JavaFX documentation, although with Text you can make some adjustments regarding fonts, that is not the case when using Label.
Is it possible to change the configuration of fonts rendering in JavaFX to improve the visualization? How?

Same old font problem..installed fonts not displaying..

I have been searching everywhere for a resolution to this problem, and while it's reported frequently, and there are various suggestions, I haven't found anything that works. Any advice would be appreciated.
The problem is that fonts that are installed on my computer do not display in Indesign but they do in other windows applications. Even more bizarre, Photoshop displays some of the ones that Indesign doesn't, but not all. In this particular case (although I am discovering other fonts) the main ones that are missing that are HUGHLY problematic are Arial Narrow and Arial Narrow Bold!!!
Information:
Using Windows Vista...did have to install a new harddrive, and I don't think this has worked properly since I did that, but did work on original harddrive. However, had the same problem on an XP machine a few years ago.
Indesign CS3...have verified that I have all updates.
Have deleted the fntcache.dat in windows and recreated it...no luck.
I tried copying the fonts to the Adobe font folder...still didn't work.
Installed FontValidator (from Windows I think) and ran it against my Arial files. It does show some errors/warning but I don't know what they mean. Several 'calculations didn't match...'. I can get the logs if this will help anyone.
Installed a font manager X-Fonter and have been loading/unloading and installing/uninstalling the fonts. I've moved fonts to external drives and deleted them. Anything I can think of in this arena..no luck.
I copied my Arial font files from an XP machine to the VISTA machine and again...no luck.
I apologize that I believe that this issue has been discussed to death, but nothing. I submitting a report to Adobe, but don't have high hopes of having a response. Any one know what to do with this? Is there a real way to tell if a font is corrupted?

I had to do a few extra things after applying the hotfix to resolve this issue on my PC (XP SP2 & CS3).

Downloaded hotfix "2007 Microsoft Office System".
Ran hotfix.
Searched hard disk for adobefnt*.lst and deleted all files found.
I performed these steps and still had no results. I tried a few things, but the following steps are what finally resolved the issue:
Navigated to the Windows\Fonts folder.
Selected the following files and did Edit/Copy
Arial (TrueType)
Arial Bold (TrueType)
Arial Bold Italic (TrueType)
Arial Italic (TrueType)
Arial Narrow (TrueType)
Arial Narrow Bold (TrueType)
Arial Narrow Bold Italic (TrueType)
Arial Narrow Italic (TrueType)
Navigated to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS3\Fonts
Did an Edit/Paste to paste the fonts into that folder.
(There was a file there called AdobeFnt11.lst; apparently it wasn't found in the global search on my hard disk, so I just deleted it.)
Navigated to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Fonts
Did an Edit/Paste to paste the fonts into this folder as well.
For some reason I had to paste the new fonts (applied in the hotfix) into both of the folders above before it would work.
Anyway, for what it's worth, this resolved the issue on my PC.

Korean font name in CSS doesn't work

Korean true type fonts have two names, in English and Korean. For example, the default font of Windows 7 Korean version is '맑은 고딕' in Korean, 'Malgun Gothic' in English. In Microsoft WIndows, webpages with CSS which has Korean font name display right font, but in my Mac, Safari does not display right font. If the webpage use both Korean and English names in CSS font section, it works in both Mac and Windows.
For example,
body { font-family: 맑은 고딕; }
It works just in Windows.
body { font-family: 맑은 고딕, Malgun Gothic; }
It works in both platform.
Apple mail also has same problem. I have tested other browsers in Mac and only Mozilla Firefox display the right font.
Is this a some kind of bug?

Unable to properly display Korean/Chinese in Premiere CS4

I am currently using an English version of Premiere CS4. I've been editing videos and I need to use both Korean and Chinese text, but unlike the successful usage of Japanese text, I can't make it work in Premiere.
Like my Japanese text editing, I'm simply copying and pasting from an email - so my PC can display the fonts, I just can't use them in Premiere.
I also can't figure out if it's a unicode thing, I don't see unicode fonts available for selection.
All I see for both Chinese and Korean are small boxes.
Any advice?

There are some fonts that Titler will just not display properly. It is the most finicky of all Adobe programs, that use fonts. A recent post involved Isabella and also Isabelle. In that case, the poster was able to replace both versions that she had with another foundry's version. That solved her issue. BTW, I could use both of these TTF versions in PS, AI and InDesign, with not one issue - Titler just would not display them.
Similar happened with Japanese fonts in CS3, and the upshot was that another Japanese font had to be found. This one did work fine in the OP's case. There, the problem fonts were TTF, and OTF versions worked perfectly once installed.
You might want to research the foundry for both of your problem fonts. If it's someone like Adobe, you might wish to see if they have those fonts in OTF, should they be in TTF, or even PS.
Jim's suggestion of making sure that all formatting is clean is also a very good one.

Korean Font only works in BOLD

I am able to display Korean characters in my GUI as long as I specify a logical font in BOLD style. Also, the characters appear to be much smaller than the ones that appear in the buttons for a JOptionPane, for example. So I took a button from the JOptionPane and put it on my test dialog and it displayed fine. When I display the toString for the button in the JOptionPane, in the text field I have what looks like a Korean String. When I display the toString for my button (with the small font) i have a ? for the text field. I am inputting my Korean as \u1101, etc. escaped Unicode. Is this an incorrect way to store Korean in my myresource_ko.properties file?

I am able to display Korean characters in my GUI as long as I specify
a logical font in BOLD style. I am not sure why this happens, but I frequently encounter cases where certain fonts will render certain characters only for some style combinations (e.g.BOLD or BOLD and ITALIC) and not others.
There are various ways you can specify fonts. ( http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/docs/guide/intl/faq.html ). I have never liked using the font.properties files. Instead I use physical font names and explicitly set the font on the GUI components.
Can you provide more information:
What is your operating system? (What language version?)
What physical font are you using?
Can you provide some code illustrating your GUI?

Displaying Korean in Frame style standalone application

I have desktop application and its user interface implemented in Frame class. I want to display/enter text in korean lang. I have
res-ko_KR.properties file contains korean equivalent texts. I also used native2scii with UTF-16 encoding on the prop file. However application doesn't show korean text. The app is running on Windows 2000 regular english edition and has korean fonts and IME installed.
Do I have to set font to Frame object or something like that?
I read on Font.Properties but just couldn't summerize how to use it and not sure if this a way to approach my problem.

In any case, let's look at images:
First, reference the "How to use Images" sectin of the Java Tutorial at http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/misc/icon.html
The way I'd do it is to construct an ImageIcon class using
public ImageIcon(String filename)
Now, ImageIcon and Image are not derived from Component, so you can't put them into a Frame. BUT, you can put a JLable into a JFrame and the JLable can have an image. So you construct a new JLable like this:
ImageIcon myIcon = new ImageIcon("/images/duke.gif")
JLabel myLabel = new JLabel(myIcon);
Then put myLabel into your JFrame
myJFrame.getContentPane().add(myLabel);
(or put it in whatever layout manager and panel you are using within yoru JFrame)
That should do it. If you're going to be putting your code into a jar file then there is an additional bit of code that needs to be added. If you search for "Images jar" you'll find lots of discussion. Or you could go to my site at www.brouelette.com and look at the code for "One Hour Wumpus" to see the ImageLoader that I use that works in or out of a jar file.

Pages having Korean font issues after iOS 7 update.

iWork on my ipad and iphone cannot handle Korean font after iOS 7 update. It displays Korean correctly in those documents I created before the recent iOS 7 update, but breaks down as soon as I try to edit them. Anyone has the same problem with international fonts? Is there anyway to fix the problem? Is it an iWork issue or the iOS 7 issue? It certainly does not look like a hardware issue, because other apps work fine indeed.
