Problems doing backup in Oracle RAC

I am working with ORacle RAC, version 10G. That thing about Oracle RAC is completely new for me. There is three databases, I'm doing backups using OEM, but here is the problem. We have defined the directory /backup in both nodes. The problem that I have is when I do the backup it's done in one node, example, today I do the backup, it's done in NODE1/backup. The next time I'm going to do a new backup by any reason the aplication (OEM) is pointing to the NODE2/backup. So here is the problem, if I need to use the first backup, I can't use it, because OEM is pointing to NODE2 instead on NODE1. My question is, how can I set the node, with OEM where I want to do backup or retrieve a prevoius backup?
Thanks for your help.

Thanks a lot forn your suggestion, but I think I should give you more details about my doubt.
The following are the steps for a backup with Oracle Enterprise Manager
steps
Thru OEM
Maintenance
BACKUP/RECOVERY
Schedule Backup
Archive Logs (Whole Database, etc.)
Then here I click override current settings, by the way, the default is spaces, so I type /backup, but problem is that directory exist in both node, Node1 and Node2, I'm working with oracle 10G, RAC, in a operating system AIX 5.3.
Then I click Compressed Backup Set, and that's all what I'm doing. But the problem is, sometimes the backup is done in Node1 and other in Node2. And if I need to restore from any previous backup that was done in NODE2, and the application (OEM) is pointing to NODE1, and can not use that previous backup. So, my question is how can I control this, using OEM. I mean, How can I set the Node, to identify in which node the backup will be done, or in which node is the backup I'm going to restore.
Thanks again

  • Does NFS support Oracle RAC with TAF ?

    Hi,
    Does NFS support Oracle RAC with TAF feature. ?
    If yes, please point to some valid document to prove the same.
    Regards
    Sumit

    TAF has nothing to do with the underlying storage architecture and is therefore 'supported' with your choice of asm, raw devices, cluster file system and NFS. NFS is supported on some platforms. For more details, check the certify tab in metalink. Some information can also be found here
    TAF will be available on any rac installation, but not all drivers support it (jdbc-thin for example)

  • RMAN backup in ORACLE RAC database

    Hi there,
    We are using RMAN backup strategy for taking backups from one node(eg.node1).Database is RAC database, version 9.2.3. and OS is Solaris 5.10.
    this is the configuration which we use, as follows:
    Connecting to Prod.Database using catalog database.
    rman catalog=rman/rman@CATDB target=sys/oracle@PRODDB(node 2).
    RMAN> show all;
    RMAN configuration parameters are:
    CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO REDUNDANCY 30;
    CONFIGURE BACKUP OPTIMIZATION ON;
    CONFIGURE DEFAULT DEVICE TYPE TO DISK; # default
    CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP ON;
    CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO '/rmanback/_%F';
    CONFIGURE DEVICE TYPE DISK PARALLELISM 5;
    CONFIGURE DATAFILE BACKUP COPIES FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO 1; # default
    CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG BACKUP COPIES FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO 1; # default
    CONFIGURE CHANNEL DEVICE TYPE DISK FORMAT '/rmanback/CMWPROD_%s.bak';
    CONFIGURE CHANNEL 2 DEVICE TYPE DISK CONNECT 'SYS/oracle@PRODDB(node2)';
    CONFIGURE MAXSETSIZE TO 7 G;
    CONFIGURE SNAPSHOT CONTROLFILE NAME TO '/oracle/9.2.3/dbs/snapcf_CMWPROD1.f';
    As the above config shows RMAN is connecting to PROD DB (node 2). But we need to take backups (datafiles and as well as archive logs) from two nodes (i.e from node 1 and as well as node 2).
    Is there any possibility for taking backups from two nodes?
    Thanks,
    Balu.

  • RMAN backup and Oracle RAC

    Hello,
    I am newbie with Oracle RAC 11g.
    So, I do the following steps to configure RMAN to back up the Oracle RAC:
    - Create a tablespace to RMAN User;
    - Create the user rman;
    - Connect to catalog (the databsae RAC itself);
    - Register the database;
    - Create the "complete_backup" script on catalog.
    So, when I enter on Enterprise Manager, I can see
    the "Availability" tab and the "Recovery Catalog Settings" link.
    I setup the user rman that I've created with the host RAC1.
    Is this really necessary on EM? The "Backup Setting" on EM
    is equals to rman (database user) catalog?
    When I go to "Schedule backup", I want to use the "complete_backup" script
    that I've created. What the best way to schedule this script
    to run each sunday, for example?
    Thank you.

    Hi,
    To perfom a test you can create a new single database (RCVCAT) in one of the hosts that you have.
    Create a database without any option with and use minimum of memory (don't use memory_target) set pga (50M) and sga(400M).
    Create a user RMAN; with Grant connect,resource,recovery_catalog_owner.
    Tablespace RCVCAT;
    With RMAN connect on RCVCAT and create your catalog.

  • Rman cold backup for oracle rac

    Hi experts;
    I want to create a cold backup for an oracle 10g rac DB.
    It has 2 nodes, it's not in archive log, this will be the next step.
    But now, I want to backup before to proceed.
    My doubts are:
    I need to shutdown the both nodes?
    If yes:
    I need to startup nomount just in one node?
    If there any document with this specifics steps?
    Thanks for your help.
    Al

    Cold backups are done with the DB completely shut down.
    For RAC the data files are used by all nodes in the cluster.
    You need to shut down all instances in the RAC.
    Then use your OS utilities or RMAN to do the backup.
    Here is an 'Ask Tom' topic that discusses this:

  • Configuring rman backup for oracle on rac cluster

    Hi GURUS
    We are buying installation oracle rac on a two node server. We do backup our db using rman and TSM .
    Does anyone have any guidance on using TSM scheduled TDP backups with
    Oracle RAC multi-node?
    More to that, is it possible to have multiple archive log destination?
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    David

    While you can have archives going to different destinations, on different nodes, it is not advisable because if these destinations are not reachable in case of a node/system failure, you have no access to these archive logs.
    Actually for easy accesibility it would be better to place the archive logs of all instnaces on shared storage. If you are using ASM and using a FRA disk group, you may want to have your archives go into this location.
    NFS mounting filesystems could be slower and may have certain perforamance implications.

  • Oracle Rac as part of OSDB Migration

    Hello Gurus,
      We are going ahead with OSDB Migration from HP-UX to Linux. Here as HA solution, we plan to implement Oracle RAC on the target systems. Where as the current environment is non RAC.
    As part of OSDB migration we are not confident in doing it on Oracle RAC.  Documentation for Oracle RAC on SAP explains first go for single instance installation on oracle cluster filesystem and implement RAC as a high availability solution with SAP Enqueue Replication service. Then do the backup and restore process from non RAC system to RAC.
    But in our scenario we should go for EXPORT/ IMPORT process.
    Please guide us in going ahead with the right approach.

    This is not an antagonism, you can do a single instance installation by doing the import. Basically an "import" is a new installation with the export you've done before.

  • Oracle RAC support in CIAC

    Hi,
    Does CIAC support Oracle RAC clusters? I'd like to put a bit of resilience on the Oracle database backend and so would like to setup an Oracle RAC. If I did would this invalidate any support if there was an issue with connectiviity to the database.

    Cisco Advanced Services have a service to install using RAC One Node, and PO supports RAC as well.

    /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/bin/rman target sys/viviet@vvsms  log /home/oracle/log_rman/vvsms.log appendThis line can be your problem.
    As this database is a RAC and your are using a service with load balance "vvsms" and "/home/oracle/backup/vvsms" is not a shared location. RMAN is starting a session on Other node where "/home/oracle/backup/vvsms" does not exists.
    Try change it :
    /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/bin/rman target sys/viviet@vvsms  log /home/oracle/log_rman/vvsms.log appendTo this (using Easy Connect Method):

    localhost: your local node
    VVSMS : is the service of database
    Also check if "/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/network/admin/sqlnet.ora" have configured the line "NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (TNSNAMES, EZCONNECT)"
    P.S : When RMAN start a session it show where is logged, check on logs what instance RMAN was logged.

  • Oracle RAC and Oracle Secure Backup Express

    I am building a new RAC environment - 7-Nodes on Linux.
    We are very interested in reviewing Oracle Secure Backup, possible Oracle Secure Backup Express.
    My understanding about Oracle Secur eBackup Express is it is licensed "free" as long as you are working with a single tape drive.
    Does anyone know - does this apply to RAC as well?
    Thanks

    Please refer to the OSB licensing document for
    specific differences between OSB-XE and OSB:
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B32520_01/doc/
    license.101/b25528/toc.htm
    In general, we recommend you backup each RAC node to
    insure all local files are protected which would mean
    the OSB-XE edition would not be recommended since
    OSB-XE is backup of one server.Thank you - I will review this.

    Hi everyone
    I need to extend an oracle RAC but i have problems when I add a new node. My actual enviroment is:
    1) Oracle Grid Infraestructure 11gR2 - 11.2.0.3 (Upgraded from Clusterware 10gR2 + ASM 10gR2)
    2) Oracle Rac Database - 10.2.0.5
    (all on one only node)
    The first problem was when I executed the script "root.sh" on the new node because this script called the old Clusterware home (/oracle/product/10.2.0/crshome). I edited the file and I changed this path for /oracle/gridbase/product/11.2.0/gridhome (current home for GI). Finally, I execute the script.
    Now, I tried to extend the rac through of DBCA, but when, I choose the new node and I clic on "next" button then appears the following error:
    "The nodes "[rstatbdbpm02]" are not part of the cluster. Make sure clusterware is active on these nodes before proceeding"
    However, when I execute the "crsctl" command to view the status of cluster the result is correct:
    [oracle@rstatbdbpm01] /home/oracle > crsctl status res -t

    Please, Any idea with that problem?
    Thanks,
    Luis

    Hi,
    Please check dbca trace logs for further checks, it will give an idea what command is being run to check status of cluster.
    Generally first checks should be on inventory for rdbms home, grid home and making sure no ORACLE related parameter is set in environment.

  • Oracle RAC 11g R1 Release Connection Failover Problem

    Hi All,
    In our Architecture we are using Oracle RAC 11g R1. Below is the JDBC URL :
    JDBCURL = jdbc:oracle:thin:@(DESCRIPTION =(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = Host1-vip)(PORT = 1521))(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = Host2-vi
    p)(PORT = 1521))(LOAD_BALANCE = ON)(FAILOVER=ON)(CONNECT_DATA =(SERVER = DEDICATED)(SERVICE_NAME = <Service_name>)))
    We are using two node RAC. The problem is whenever we are rebooting a Node and rejoin the cluster, Application Servers are not able to recognize that.
    Suppose we have node1 and node2, I will take down node1 (freeze the cluster) and then reboot node1 and bring it back up( and join the cluster). At this point, My application servers are not able to recognize that some new DBserver(node1) had joined the cluster until I restart my application servers.
    Please Provide me a solution for this. Thanks alot to everyone in advance.

    Please try using this
    JDBCURL = jdbc:oracle:thin:@(DESCRIPTION =(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = Host1-vip)(PORT = 1521))(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = Host2-vi
    p)(PORT = 1521))(LOAD_BALANCE = YES)(FAILOVER=YES)(CONNECT_DATA =(SERVER = DEDICATED)(SERVICE_NAME = <Service_name>)))

  • Load Balance Problem in Oracle RAC 10.2.0.4 (two nodes with CRS)

    Hi all,
    I have an Oracle RAC 10.2.0.4 with two nodes and I'm having problems with sessions load balance.
    The problem is that all connections are going to the node which is enabled as 'master' in RAC, the node who has located .db resource in CRS.
    If .db resource is located in node1 all connections are made in node1. In the same way, all connections are made in node2 when .db resource from CRS stack is located in node2.
    The connections are made by a pool in Tomcat 6 using RAC service for made the connections.
    Any idea?
    Thanks in advance.
    Here is an example of my net configuration:
    listener.ora in node1:
    LISTENER_RAC_NODE1 =
    (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = node1_vip)(PORT = 1525)(IP = FIRST))
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = node1)(PORT = 1525)(IP = FIRST))
    tnsnames in node1:
    LISTENERS_RAC =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = node1_vip)(PORT = 1525))
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = node2_vip)(PORT = 1525))
    NODE1 =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = node1_vip)(PORT = 1525))
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = node1)(PORT = 1525))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = rac)
    (INSTANCE_NAME = rac1)
    RAC =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = node1_vip)(PORT = 1525))
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = node2_vip)(PORT = 1525))
    (LOAD_BALANCE = yes)
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = rac)
    ********************************************************

    It is my fault.
    It was the connection service. I had one one with preferred option and one without it. Now is working well.

  • Sun Fire V490 x 2 servers with Oracle RAC facing Split brain problem

    Hi all,
    I have Sun Fire V490 x 2 servers with Oracle RAC and they faced a Split brain problem. One of the node's database instance has gone down, The DBA claims it is due to network problem, but as such the networks are OK. We use the on board CE1 interface for Cluster interconnect and CE0 as the public interface.
    Did anybody face this kind of a problem? Could this be a hardware/OS patch problem?
    I had kept a continuous ping for 24 hours after this happened last time and the output shows no packet loss
    Many thanks in advance.
    Ushas Symon

    In order to diagnose this properly, you'll need to provide too much detail and far too many log files for a generic discussion forum to handle.
    Use your service contract and open a support case.
    Because a cluster environment is involved you'll likely end up talking to the cluster support staff.
    They can analyze hardware and software errors as well as review whether you configured the systems in a supportable fashion.
    Be prepared to make a direct connection to each system and gather data using such as by using the Explorer tool. The technical support staff will tell you what they will actually need.
