Problems downloading documents in new iMac

I hope someone can help me. I have been having problems downloading document on my new iMac. (Bank documents in .qif files, and MS Word documents as .doc files) I use Safari, but I have had a similar problem in Explorer and Firefox. When I try to download, I get an error message in the download manager that reads, for example: 8.0 kb of ? -- Cannot create file. Then when I retry, it seems to be downloading until it gives me the same message. It is not a permissions problem, since I checked on that. And it is not a server problem, because my iBook downloads files just fine.

Open the General section of Safari's preferences and check the download location; if this isn't the desktop, change it to the desktop and try again. If it still doesn't work, control-click on the desktop and choose Get Info from the File menu. Check that the Locked checkbox isn't checked and that you have full access to that folder; if you check permissions from the Disk Utility, it won't look at or fix the permissions on the desktop folder. If it still doesn't work, reopen Safari's preferences and move the download location to the Documents folder in your home folder. Also check that there is enough free space on the drive to accomodate the downloaded file.

  • Help - I just purchased CS6 and downloaded onto the new iMac I just bought. I cannot get it to open

I just purchased CS6 and downloaded onto the new iMac I just bought. I cannot get it to open. I think I may have purchased a windows version in error.  When I clicked on "DesignStandard_CS6_LS16.exe I am told the application can't open because Microsoft Windows applications are not supported on OS X.  Does anyone know how to contact Adobe directly?  I keep going around and around on their site and have found no e-mail or phone number to contact them to get this straightened out.  Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks so much out there for any assistance!

Trying to contact Adobe over the (long) weekend is not likely to get you very far.

  • Downloading to my new iMac ?

    Hi
Just puchased a new iMac (Previously only used Microsoft) and need to install my photoshop program. Problem is my iMac does not have a dvd drive. The box shows Adobe Photoshop Elements11 & Adobe Premiere Elements 11 and also has two serial numbers , one for photoshop elements and one for Premiere Elements. How do I go about installing or are both incorporated in the one download?
    GregH

You can download the Mac version of the installation files thru the following pages and use the serial numbers from the box to activate them.  Each will be a separate installation.

  • Slow scrolling & lag problems using Office with new iMac desktop OS X Lion

Just bought a new iMac 21.5 desktop with OS X Lion after using a PC with windows my whole life. Downloaded latest version of Microsoft Office to use with my spreadsheets for my business and found that whenever I use larger spreadsheets and use filters (500 rows/20 columns) the scrolling is so slow with such a delayed response and lagtime, that it is practically useless. Already checked the possible "duplicate font" problem mentioned on some sites but that did nothing. What can be done to fix this issue???

If the issue only occurs when you use Excel then you may want to click the Office for Mac Product Forums and repost. One thing to look at is how much RAM your system has and how much is FREE. As a general rule of thumb OS X likes 500 MB or more of FREE RAM, keep Activity Monitor running (Applications - Utilities - Activity Monitor) and when you sense a slow down look at AM and click the System Memory tab, if you see it's in the 500MB or less range then it's simple, upgrade the RAM. • Problems with AIM on new iMac G5

Hi--Sorry if this is in the wrong place. I'm having an extremely frustrating problem with AIM, which I recently downloaded on my son's new iMac G5 (TIger 10.4.3). I've tried posting this question in the iChat forum, but since he doesn't use iChat and never has it open on his computer, I don't think it's an interference problem with iChat.
AIM quits unexpectedly and repeatedly, often several times in just a few minutes. I've tried: throwing out all preferences, trashing and reinstalling AIM, and using AIM from a different user account on the machine. AIM worked FINE on my computer--an older G4 also running OS Tiger, so I can't imagine that this is an operating system conflict.
A friend suggested that it might be a problem with the wireless network. The new G5 is connected wirelessly via Airport to my G4. Has anyone heard of AIM not running well on a wireless machine? Could something (an outside frequency perhaps?) be interfering with the wireless connection, causing AIM to quit?
Needless to say, AOL's tech support is completely unhelpful. Says they don't provide tech support for AIM.
If anyone can help, or knows someplace I can find AIM tech support, I would GREATLY appreciate it! THanks!

The best advice I can offer is to dump the AOL AIM client altogether, and use a third-party instant messaging application that supports AIM.
For example, Adium X is a full featured IM client that supports AIM as well as many other IM protocols.
It's very stable on Tiger, and it's light years ahead of the official AIM client from AOL.
    Try it out!

  • Firefox is about 80 percent downloaded onto my new iMac computer and will not finish.

I have a new iMac computer and tried to download Firefox. It downloaded about 80 percent and stopped. what should i do?

Are you updating or downloading the full version?
If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop
    * Firefox 7.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
    * Install the new version that you have downloaded
Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data.

  • Problems sending files to new iMac

I have tried to send folders from our MacBook to our new iMac (out of the box 2 days ago!), and keep on getting a 'Device does not have the necessary services' message. Just in case it was the MacBook with the problem I have tried sending media files from my phone to the iMac and keep on getting 'failed' messages. I tried to send a file from the iMac to the MacBook and this worked, so it's in the receiving, rather than the sending. What can I do? Thanks

Have you enabled Bluetooth Sharing in the System Preferences? Go to Sys Prefs/Sharing and check the box to allow Bluetooth sharing in the Sharing services list on the left of the pane. You will then be offered a number of things to configure when using this service on the right of the pane.

  • Problem installing on my new iMac

I have an ugrade version of Photoshop Elements 10/Premier Elements 10. I  have recently changed from a Windows based machine to a new iMac. I obviously do not have my previous software installed on my new iMac. I suspect that there may be a problem to install my software for that reason, but in addition, I get the following error messages:

    Hi dr_dmd,
Please try renaming the folder : /Library/Application Support/Adobe/OOBE to OOBE_old
After renaming unstall the PRE and PSE completly from /Applications/utilities/Adobe Installers and then try to install.
If still you face the same problem then please let us provide the list of Adobe software which are installed on your computer.

  • Problems downloading CS5 on new laptop

After buying a new laptop, an Apple support person helped me migrate all files from old MacBook Pro including CS5.  However, these Adobe files are corrupted and when trying to open Photoshop, I got this message: “Some of the application components are missing from the Application directory, Please reinstall the application”.  In order to download onto my new MacBook Pro, I contacted Adobe support to get my details changed from Canada (where I was when I bought it) to the UK, and I have just spent several hours downloading CS5 onto my laptop. However, the old CS5 has not been replaced, and I cannot find where the new version has been stored.  What should I do?  Do I need to uninstall corrupted CS5 and download again?

Adobe products have to be installed, not migrated/transfered, primarily due to being them associated with the machine during installation.  If you migrate them you lose that association.
What you should probably try doing is to first use the Creative Suite Cleaner tool to remove CS5 from the machine, and then install CS5 again.
    Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool
helps resolve installation problems for CS3 thru CS6 and for Creative Cloud

  • PROBLEMS DOWNLOADING DOCUMENTS (WORD OR PDF) FROM E-MAILS

Up to yesterday, I was able to download documents from e-mails (word and pdf), but I do not seem to be able to do so now
I do seem to be able to download programs, but not documents
Previsouly, firefox would download, scan, and then send scanned/downloaded document to a downloaded document folder - now it just scans the document and that is it - does not send it to the downloaded folder
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == TODAY (JUN 30, 2010)

From the noises you describe, I'd be far more worried about the condition of the hard drive. Back up any important personal data immediately. I think the relation to Entourage is only circumstantial. The hard drive is the real problem.

  • Problem installing software on new imac

I am using a new imac and i tried to instal the software. It seemed to work with disk 1. I skipped verifying the disk though. Disk # 2 i will try to install. It will look like its finishing but then it will say problem instaling software. Please try again. I have tried it 2 times already. PLEASE HELP!!!

Let me see if I have this straight.
You are simply trying to install Mac OS 9.2 from disc 2, correct?
What happens when you insert the disc?
Does it mount on the desktop?
    Do you receive any errors?
Are you able to double click the install classic icon?
b I am using a new imac and i tried to instal the software. It seemed to work with disk 1.
So you were trying to reinstall the system software from disc 1?
Was this an upgrade of the software or a reinstall of what came with your computer?

  • Downloading to a new imac

I just bought a new iMac. I cannot download Photoshop Elements 9 & Premier Elements 9 to my new computer bc there is no CD/DVD drive. • Problems opening Aperture onto new iMac

I had to replace a malfunctioning iMac with Aperture installed on it with a new iMac. A data transfer moved everything from the old to new. When try to open Aperture it won't accept the original serial number or 3.0 serial number. I am unable to get into Aperture to access my photos. Thanks for your help.

No.  Aperture, like every program I know of, separates program files from data files.  Deleting and/or installing the Aperture program should have no effect whatsoever on your Aperture Libraries, wherever they are.  Generally, your Aperture program file is in your Applications folder, and your Libraries are stored in your Documents folder.  You might want to confirm that the move from old to new brought over your Aperture Libraries intact.

  • M-Audio Firewire 410 soundcard problem on Windows on new iMac

I've had this problem since I got the new iMac. When running Windows natively, with all Boot Camp 2.0 (same with the older Boot Camp) drivers installed and the latest drivers for my M-Audio Firewire 410 for Windows XP Pro, I haven't been able to use the sound card at all. Everything installs perfectly, the control panel works, but the hardware won't respond to any sound playback. I'm not sure if it's the Boot Camp drivers for my iMac or if it's my interface. It worked fine through Boot Camp with my MacBook Pro, but not the new Aluminum iMac. Using it with Ableton Live 6/7 fails. Playing it from iTunes fails. Everything fails. My interface is basically rendered useless on Windows. I believe it's an iMac + Boot Camp problem, not the interface. Audio program forums didn't help, so I cam here. Hope someone can help. Thanks!

    from M-audio...
M-Audio does not support Boot Camp on Intel based Macs at this time.
The problem is that there is no BIOS on Mac Intel systems and getting devices to work on some XP systems requires BIOS/OS tweaks. Boot Camp works around the need for BIOS; Windows does not. Windows installations are not always consistent and the fact it works on one Intel Mac does not mean it will work on another.
Attempting to install any M-Audio device or drivers in Boot Camp is done solely at the user’s own risk.
Here is a website that has many troubleshooting tips that can help get devices to work on XP and MAY work for Boot Camp; however this is all done at the users own risk.
    http://www.pcaudiolabs.com/setuptips1.asp?cat=setu
    For M-Audio FireWire devices:
Switching from Mac to PC the FireWire device may not always load the firmware properly. To get the PC firmware to load you may have to boot into XP then shut down, disconnect, reconnect and reboot. Switching from PC to Mac automatically loads the correct firmware.
If this workaround does not fix your issue, you will have to run the device solely on Mac OS or on Windows hardware.
