Problems during BIOS upgrade - three beeps - help!

Hi.
Helping on a old neighbour computer. Catastrophe.
HP Pavilion P6122f PC.
The computer could not boot.
Decided to try a BIOS upgrade, from 5.11 to 5.22
Computer freezes during upgrade.
Now can't restart, can't access the BIOS, all i hear are three short beeps.
which means: Unable to start flashing (such as when missing a utility or BIOS image)
I really really need to fix this, my neighbour is not rich by any means. I can i reset the BIOS?

Hi Fred,
Try clearing the CMOS and see if you get lucky.
The motherboard in that PC has a long not so good history.

  • T61 doesn't turn on after BIOS upgrade! PLEASE HELP!

    Hi all,
I just reinstalled XP on my 4 months old T61 and installed Lenovo's System Update thing. There was an BIOS update option there, so I selected it. It downloaded it and then done the upgrade - there were no errors, everything was smooth. All was fine. At least it looked that way. I rebooted it. It hanged on the boot screen (at POST). So I tried to reboot it or turn it off - there was no way to do it - the keyboard was not responding, tried pressing the power button for like a minute, but nothing. It was frozen on the bootscreen logo. So I removed the power plug and then the battery to cut the power and turn it off.
I inserted the battery and the power plug back... and... IT DOESN'T TURN ON ANYMORE. Not only it will not respond to me clicking the power button, but also the light on the backside of the lid doesn't light up when I plug in the power supply. What the hell happened? What should I do?
I tried removing the RAM and replacing it, cause I had a spare stick, but, as I thought it didn't do anything.
Is it possible that the power circuit inside T61 was somehow damaged when I removed the battery when the computer was running?
    Some more info:
The battery was fully charged when flashing, I was on the AC and the BIOS version was selected automatically via Lenovo System Update.
I know how to flash BIOSes, I did it like a hundred times in my life already, even hex-hacked one on a very old PC. Never had any problems.
This is the BIOS I upgraded to:
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-67988
    My T61's model is: 6465-CTO
OMG I'm so desperate right now.
Please HELP! I don't know what should I do!
And to top it off, I don't know if my warranty is going to be any good in Poland (see thread: http://forum.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message?board.id=Special_Interest_General&thread.id=88 )
    Best regards,
    NIXin

    It is disturbing - Yes.
However, I have lost count of the number of BIOS or ECC updates I have made with System Update and have never ever had something go wrong. Obviously those that experience a problem are going to look for help and post in forums, it would be interesting to know how many have never had a problem?? They have no reason to post.
You wrote; "bricks their Txx about once a week", how many ThinkPads are sold per week? It is guaranteed to be an absolute nightmare for the owner, quite understandably, but if I was paranoid I wouldn't drive my car to work - I might have an accident.

  • X120e: Suspend problems after BIOS upgrade.

    I have a ThinkPad X120e (0596RZ6), which had BIOS version 1.08, that I have upgraded to 1.16 (8FET32WW).
I used a CD-ROM to upgrade the BIOS (8fuj09uc.iso) and all went smoothly.
Now, whenever I try to suspend to RAM while running on battery, it visibly suspends, cannot resume, and drains the battery as quickly as it would while running normally.
It worked just fine with 1.08, and nothing has changed in the OS that could break it.

The problem persists after downleveling the BIOS to 1.11. Older versions do not seem to be available for download.
Please, for the love of God, if you release a BIOS upgrade without properly testing it, then state so clearly so that people do not waste their resources such on frustrating "upgrades."

  • Lil problem after bios upgrade/flashing

I have a K9N neo nvidia nforce 550 mainboard and found a new bios upgrade from the msi website using the express download. Ever since ive upgraded, right after startup i get a message in windows saying it found a new PCI device and that i need to install a driver for it, i have 3 pci devices installed rbefore upgrading bios (GPU, Soundcard and wlan card) and theyre all working right now, i have no idea what pci device my pc has found because there is absolutely nothing installed other than those 3.  ???
Any feedback would be much appreciated, thank you

OK so i installed one of the drivers from the express download function, it was realtec audio device driver (or something), i installed that. but sstill wierd since i dont have that in any pci slot, anyways, im not getting the popup asking me to install unknown device anymore.
(AMD away driver wouldnt install for some reason, had an error, so i think im gonna leave it at that for now, i dont want any more problems lol...)
re install chipset drivers, after that if still yellow devices left use program above to ID.

  • KT3 Ultra2 (6380) Problems after BIOS upgrade

Recently upgrade bios to 5.7 to work with the 2800+ I just got. The flashing process seemed to work without any problems. Upon rebooting of the machine I got the error CMOS\GPNV Bad Checksum. If I choose f2 (load defaults and continue booting) the machine will boot. If I reboot I get nothing....not even video. I have to clear the CMOS to get it to post but I receive the same error message. Im thinking its a memory issue. I have a pc2700 512 module in there currently which has worked fine. I have fiddled with the memory settings w/ no success. What should these settings be in my bios? Also have a geforce 4 video card if that is of any help?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!
    -Matt

    oh anohter thing...
i got a two short beeps - pause and then another short beep for a mobo error code.
i find it very strange how if i clear the cmos settings...boot it...hit f2 to load defaults and continue it boots. however after that a cold boot or even a reboot the machine wont even post. I feel the answer lies in there somewheres.....

  • Problem with BIOS upgrade

I have a UK model laptop, a Satellite C855-1HM. (The website for Tosh UK has redirected me here for support.)
This evening I was prompted by the Tosh software to upgrade BIOS from 6.60 to 6.70 using the InsydeFlash download and installer. I have used this function several times before with no problem.
This time, however, when the system restarted, the wireless adapter was not working, and looking in Device Manager I found that there was a resource conflict, though I could not see what it was conflicting with, it simply told me that the resources wanted by the wireless weren't available.  Luckily I have a 5 metre ethernet cable handy...
I managed to find the 6.60 download on Tosh website, but of course when I tried to run it it refused, saying 'The Version of ROM file is not newer than that of BIOS'.  I looked for a way round this, and tried tweaking the platform.ini, as suggested by various websites, but with no success.  I tried also reinstalling the 6.70 BIOS but it also refused to work, saying it is the same as the installed BIOS.
Eventually I thought of restarting the laptop.  I was pleased to find that the wireless adapter now works, but now there is no sound - '"No audio output device is installed", it tells me, although I can't see anything wrong in Device Manager, there must be something missing.
So basically I still need to find a way to reinstall the older BIOS.  I have managed to unzip the files and look at them.  One website I referred to suggested that there would be a date in one of the files, but I haven't located that, even with a hex editor. Is it in the F8660.FD file, and if so, in what format?
I would be very glad of any help - a.s.a.p, please. Thanks in advance.

Hi there, the Tosh comes with a program called Service Station, which I turned on when I got the laptop (9 months ago). About 4 times this year it has prompted me to upgrade the BIOS. I assumed it was important, as it seemed to be saying there were software vulnerabilities (can a BIOS get a virus?)... so I did as they said!
I thought Toshiba knew what they were doing - and the software they sent out would RELIABLE - I was wrong.
I am still trying to return to the 6.60 version, but no luck - I need some practical help, please.
I do not know of a way to revert back to an older version bios (on a laptop).  however, if it just a matter of audio, try ininstalling the audio driver and reinstalling.  You have the latest bios installed and your computer is running ok, except for this audio driver issue.  consider yourself luck as Dokie pointed out, updating a bios is serious and if interupted for whatever reason, it can render your computer permanantly inoperable.  Unless you are experiencing problems, pass on the bios update.  you can't get a virus from having an older version bios.

  • MDMP Unicode Conversion problem during ECC upgrade

    hi Experts,
I met a problem when upgrade from 4.6c to ecc 6.
in 4.6c, some key users made some chinese written entries in table field while he/she was logon as English, so, the language field in this entry is "EN" although the actual language was written by chinese, after upgrade to ECC6, we found the chinese words became messy code, maybe it was due to the chinese were encoded by english codepage during conversion, my question is, how can I avoid this? I really don't want this happen in our PRD upgrade.
The second question is: if a field contains both chinese and english, then, which language should it be assigned? english or chinese? I'm afraid if we assign this word as "EN" in vocabulary, then, after upgrade, the chinese part will be messy code.
Thank you for your kind suggestions.
    Freshman

    Hi,
you can either use transaction SUMG (manually) to repair the entries ( you have to add the according table - please check unicode conversion guide for details) or you need to change the language key in the table to Chinese if you want the Unicode conversion to convert the data correctly.
To your second question: If the English texts are restricted to US7ASCII characters ("normal" English without special characters) those texts containing Chinese and English words can (and must !)  be assigned to ZH, as US7ASCII characters are included in the Chinese code page.

  • Overclocking problems after BIOS upgrade

    I’ve currently a MSI 865PE Neo2 mainboard with an Intel Pentium 4 2,4 GHz/FSB 800, 400MHz DDR-SDRAM.. Current version of BIOS is 1.3 and I succeeded to overclock P4 up to 3,0 GHz.
To achieve such a benchmarking I did the following steps (at least this seams to be the fail safe procedure to achieve success in overclocking P.4 to 3,0 GHz):
Load Setup Default settings first, changed Frequency/Voltage control as follows:
    Dynamic Overclocking:       Disabled
    Performance Mode:          Slow
    CPU Ration Selection:       Locked
    DRAM Frequency:          Auto
    Spread Spectrum:          Disabled
Adjust CPU Bus Clock (MHz):    250
    DDR Clock(MHz)         500
    Adjust AGP/PCI Clock(MHz)   66,66/33,33
    CPU Vcore Adjust         No
       CPU Vcore         1,750
    DDR Power voltage         2,50V
    AGP Power voltage         1,50V
    After reboot I get:
    Dynamic Overclocking:       Disabled
    Performance Mode:          Slow
    CPU Ration Selection:       Locked
    DRAM Frequency:          Auto
    Spread Spectrum:          Disabled
Adjust CPU Bus Clock (MHz):    250
    DDR Clock(MHz)         400
    Adjust AGP/PCI Clock(MHz)   66,66/33,33
    CPU Vcore Adjust         No
       CPU Vcore         1,750V
    DDR Power voltage         2,50V
    AGP Power voltage         1,50V
That is, the mainboard keeps the FSB at 250 MHz but changes DDR Clock to 400 MHz. Thus everything works fine (forcing DRAM Frequency setting from Auto to 400, simple doesn’t work. Don’t know why?).
After upgrading the BIOS from version 1,3 to 1,5 the mainboard never adjusts the DDR Clock to 400 MHz and always reset to default 2,4 GHz base CPU clock frequency.
To my despair, after many different settings I could ever be able to overclock P4 to 3,0 GHz !!
Could you anyone please help me?
    Kind regards,

There is really no efect in increasing the RAM voltage, I’ve tried up to 2,75 Volts.
With BIOS after 1.3 I always get "DRAM timing is too tightly so reload timing..."
Nevertheless I flashed BIOS version 1.7. After many tries what I've discovered is that if I set DRAM Frequency to 333, system shows after reboot DDR Clock (MHz) = 400 !!!
So everything works fine, Pentium 4 running at 3,0 GHz with CPU Bus Clock(MHz) = 250. Maybe this is a bug !?!?
To be on the safe side I've changed DDR Power Voltage to 2,70V as you recommended.
    Kind regards
    Pedro

  • Satellite A300 Won't boot after powering off during BIOS upgrade

    Hi,
I was trying to upgrade the BIOS after reading an alert from TOSHIBA TEMPRO, after some time, it didn't seem to launch so I ran it a second time, then both BIOS application showed up in the taskbar only and it froze while I didn't start upgrading or anything, I had to power off.
I tried to reboot but now, it just stays on black screen ( the monitor isn't even powered, as if the system wasn't running ), all leds are powered with the "accessing hard disk" flashing, the led from the DVD reader keeps on flashing while making a noise every 3 seconds or so.
I've read on the forum that there may be no solutions but to take it to an authorized service provider, but I'm willing to take any possible solution before doing it.
    Thanks for any advice.
    Alex.

Yes I did. Thank you. In my case I had to borrow the USB diskete but I was lucky to get to it!.
The problems with the BIOS update are that there is no enough information about how to do the process. I found some important information after corrupting the BIOS while it should be available with the download archive. Also in my case the program started updating BIOS without prompting or anything and couldn't react to prepare everything on time. I could see this happens a lot. There may be a problem with that software because I heard people saying that everything seemed to work fine but then it didin't start up.
The worst thing was that local support service wanted me to change the whole motherboard and then paying a lot for removing one of the passwords saying always that there was no other option even when it seemed they knew that wasn't true! I'm a upset with them.

    Hello Amar,
as far as I could understand, you have just started the UA server. Now you need to start up the GUI program, which will connect to this service, and you'll have the normal Upgrade screens. See the line:
UaServer> Waiting for UaGuis to connect at port 4241
It shows it's waiting for the GUI to connect.

  • NB100 hotkeys problem after BIOS upgrade

    Hello,
after i've updated the bios to version 1.60 some hotkeys, like brightness setting (fn+f9/f10) or the mute (fn+f6) are not working anymore when the operating system starts, they work instead before o.s. loads. I'm using Windows Vista atm. I've tried to reinstall it too but nothing changed.
I really hope to receive some help so thanks in advance ;)
    Best Regards

I dont think its the BIOS. Ive run vista ultimate on mine since ive had it, the hotkeys have never, in my case, worked with Vista. Even if i load the Toshiba hotkey utility it refuses to start and wont run in compatibility mode either. I think its a sacrifice we have to put up with, unless Toshiba update the utility to support vista. Personally I doubt they will do this as the machine is shipped only to support Win XP.

    Hi,
I have two ISE-3315 Appliances in production network.
I need someone's help to explain, how to make the Secondary node as the primary admin note to reset-config.
And then I would like to know how to keep the license files and Certificate during the Upgrade.
Please help me to answer my questions.

The Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) provides distributed  deployment of runtime services with centralized configuration and  management. Multiple nodes can be deployed together in a distributed  fashion to support failover.
If you register a  secondary Monitoring ISE node, it is recommended that you first back up  the primary Monitoring ISE node and then restore the data to the new  secondary Monitoring ISE node. This ensures that the history of the  primary Monitoring ISE node is in sync with the new secondary node as  new changes are replicated.

  • Syntax problem After the Upgrade to SCM 7.0

We are facing one problem during the upgrade process in the sandbox environment.
After the upgrade we have completed the SPAU corrections ,while doing the SPAU corrections we found that one function module is not in active mode. We have checked the syntax, problem is there. we have tried to retrieve to the older version. But there are some notes were implemented during the 4.1 version. Those notes are now appearing in the SPAU with question mark.
We have reverted all the notes but still the code is having syntax problem and the code is in the 4.1 version only.
Please tell me how to solve it...

  • Lenovo n500 - crashed winxp during bios flash upgrade

    Hi all...
During the Bios upgrade (52ch04ww.exe) crashed windowsxp, rebooted, and never boots again. No bios, no screen (video)..
How i can restore my bios or reset to the factory? None see on monitor - black screen and no boot.
Maybe know anybody some bootable automated bios/flash recovery software?
    Thanks..

    Hem, forget your Notebook.
On my old HP Notebook i did an bios flash from bios which was not for my notebook , the Laptop goes on, but the screen is black and it does nothing.
Your problem is, during the update or flash, and crash there are no bios on the ROM anymore, or maybe not the whole BIOS.
    So, there are some solutions:
    1) Forget the laptop, because, if you got warranty, contact Lenovo, but they can say, that you should pay for the new motherboard with the BIOS on it. By HP it costs 230€ - 300€ (for a bit more i bayed my Lenovo Notebook), or they will do it IF the mistake was done by Lenovo (by HP somebody put the BIOS file for my laptop, under the Category for my laptop, but it was BIOS from an other Laptop, mistake done by HP, they pay!).
But if its your mistake, sorry, through the laptop out of the window.
    2) Other way: There are no other ways. In the old PC's you could change the ROM-Chip.  you could buy it on ebay, or some little companies. BUT, the ROM chip from lenovo notebooks, are soldered in the motherboard like by HP, so you cant change them.
    3) Trying to boot from CD/DVD/USB-Floppy/USB-Flash:
This wont help! Because the BIOS (Hardware Layer ) is no more, so the Hardware doesn't know what to do.
For example if the BIOS ok, the system becomes command what to do, to do a POST test or something like that, then you can chose by pressing keys what the system should do, for example boot.
But without BIOS, the system do not have the commands any more.
    So
Contact the Lenovo Support Service, and ask what could you do, and how much the repair costs.
I learned  one thing, NEVER DO THE BIOS flash under windows!
I mean it was not my mistake by my HP notebook, but it could happen with each notebook, when it crashes.
    so,
i hope i could help you, sorry for bad news.
    write after you phone Lenovo.
