Problems Embedding Sound Files

I recently upgraded from Acrobat Pro 8 to X, not realizing how different they are. In 8, I would open a link to a sound file and then click on the box that allowed me to embed it in the document. I could have the field borders invisible so that when the hand passed over a text that was linked to sound, it changed to the pointing finger and clicking started the sound.
Now it seems I can't do that any longer. I watched the tutorial and it looks like I have to have something that's visible. While I know that you can set it so the sound file marker won't print, it's still ugly and carries no identification, unless I add a text field and then have others who use the file learn to exclude both the "comment" and the image of the sound file.
What I would like to do at the minimum is to be able to type in an identifier for the sound file which is part of the image itself, or else make the image of the sound file transparent, so that the relevant text already present would show through, like it did in Acrobat 8.
Does anyone know if this is possible any longer? I miss the old way.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I've run into similar problems and haven't found a satisfactory solution with sound files. Others have reported this problem as well.
You might experiment in turning sound files into movies, and making your text label into the first frame of the movie (the "movie poster"). The best movie formats for Acrobat 9 and Acrobat X are Flash formats—F4V and FLV. If you have a copy of InDesign CS5, it's easier to use the Media panel to place and manipulate the Flash movies.

  • How do I get a handle on embedded sound files?

From the Sound Class information, it says to use the SoundMixer Class to handle embedded Sound Files.  I have two sound files embedded, that I have setup in 2 separate layers, starting at frame one in the main timeline.  I needed to do this so I could see the wave files, and coordinate text with the waves.  I do not want to load these files into the .swf file at runtime using URLRequest.  How do I get a handle on those as they exist, to make each controllable by separate volume and mute controls for each sound?
This will be a challenging question, because, "it can't be done" doesn't work for me.  I managed to create a way to use an external classfile to control the main timeline, the ROOT timeline, without having to create a sub movie to root.  I can use my component to call play(); as though it were in code in a frame.  But it isn't, it's in an external classfile.  I passed root to the classfile and told the classfile to think of it as a movieclip - that put the handle on it.  I tried similar way with root as a Sound, but that isn't detailed enough - I need to get a handle on the frame that contains the embedded sound file.  I embedded, attached it, using the properties view for the frame.
I've attached, or whatever you want to call it, these sound files to a frame, and this frame is or should be attached to the layer I've created.  So, under the assumption that the ROOT has everything attached to it in some manner (it is after all the foundation for the COM), the stage of the root contains the visual components, so ROOT has to have the layer objects attached to it, which should have the frame objects attached to the layers.  I have two layers that each have a .wav file attached to frame one.  Somehow Flash keeps track of that - I want to know how Flash does it so I can read what flash reads.
If this seems redundant, it probably is.  I want to paint the best picture I know how so I can get detailed feedback.  Please, if you have questions ask them so we can clarify, and get this resolved!  Thanks for reading!

    lol.
ok, it can be done.  keep working on it.

  • Acrobat Pro: Making timecode visible in embedded sound files?

Hello.  I teach music history courses.  For copyright purposes (i.e., to prevent music theft), I am embedding sound files in PDFs for student use.  Some of my commentaries have timing cues (e.g., Horns enter at 3'38"), but I've not found a way to make the timecode visible to the students.
Time codes are, of course, a standard feature on most music players (iTunes, Quicktime, WMP, etc.), as well as on many Flash players.  It seems reasonable that the media player in Acrobat should have a similar feature, even if disabled by default.  But if it does, I have been unable to locate or enable it.  Does such a feature exist on Acrobat?
If not, does anyone have a recommendation for a possible alternative?  Thanks.

You do know that as of Acrobat 9.0 you are able to include Flash Movies in PDFs. Now as to how that works I couldn't tell you as I haven't used Flash much even though I have it as part of Studio 8.

  • Problem embedding quicktime files

    Hi,
I run a website with embedded quicktime files at www.tubespot.com. I have a problem viewing the quicktime files using Safari. The page seems to work fine on any other web browser.
I copied the code for the <object> tag and the <embed> tag straight from trailers.apple.com. And in Safari, if I refresh several times, eventually it will show the video. This is true on any of several macs running Panther and Tiger.
Also, when I put forth just the <object> tag it works every time. But in the context of my site, it often doesn't show up. I've tried playing with the tag specs to make sure there's way more than enough room, etc., but I cannot seem to make it consistently show up.
Can anyone look at the code and offer any insight to the problem? Is anyone able to reliably see the videos using Safari?
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • Problems embedding PDF files into Excel 2003 workbooks

Several of my fellow consultants engaged on a client project were previously able to successfully embed PDF files as objects within Excel 2003 workbooks.  However, most recently, a few of them have been encountering odd icon displays for the embedded object (not the standard Adobe PDF icon), resulting in the user unable to view the object (these colleagues are using desktop PCs running Excel 2003 and Adobe Reader 9.3.2).  Has anyone encountered this and have a remedy?

    Thanks for responding -
My colleagues report that no error messages appear when adding the object to the Excel spreadsheet - however, the object is created with a non PDF icon being displayed.  Once the icon is double clicked, nothing appears.  The sample of the problem was forwarded to me - where I can see that the object icon is in fact a non Adobe PDF icon (see below).  While I am able to open the PDF file with my PC desktop configuration (Windows XP, Excel 2007, Adobe Reader v9.4.1.), those with Windows XP, Excel 2003 and Adobe Reader v9.3.2 can not.  Any thoughts?

  • Mountain Lion problem with CAF sound files

I have various sound files in a Cocoa game under OSX with OpenAL and now with Mountain Lion all the small CAF files (5kb or less) do not play.  Al the other larger CAF files play as normal.  All the files load with no errors.
Does anyone have any thoughts on what might be causing this?  Anyone else seen problems with sound files?

This is how it looks like for me. This accours on every Boot Up.

  • Embedding Sound : The Sound File Control

Newb here. Please bear with me.
I am embedding sound files into an e-book, floating controls every 15 minutes reading time. The use may read and listen and the same time.
It looks like I do not have much to chose concerning the sound player controls: the start/stop, beginning/end, and the position slider are really small, there are gray bars above and below, and everithing is sorrounded by a thick black border even though I select "no border" in the appearence option.
Please advise. Thank you very much.

  • Damsel In Distress: Embedding Sound Clips in Fillable Forms

I embedded sounds (WAV files) in my professional 7.0 pdf with both the sound tool and the button tool. I also customized these with my own icon (JPG and PNG images). PROBLEM: once I open my pdf as a fillable form to add comment boxes, all the sound clips disappear, both icons and sounds. QUESTION: how can I embed sounds in my fillable forms? Thank you!

Thank you, but without LiveCycle Designer where does Acrobat allow me to create a fillable form that my user can submit data back to me via email. Again, I am embedding my sound files in Acrobat, but once I select the Advance Menu|Forms|Make Form Fillable in Adobe Designer, it automatically opens LiveCycle Designer and my embedded sound files disappear. Any other suggestions are welcomed!

  • Where to embed the Sound File, which will be accessible everywhere?

    Hello Again
Im here with a stupid question.
I have an application which has a component.
    Both have Buttons.
Where should i embed the sound file which will be accessible
    in both places?
second question is about embeding sound files in css. I know
how to embed in <mx:script> tag, but couldnt find an example
    about css!
    Thanks in advance.

Well best practice as to coding may influenced by the
    architecture in this case.
It may be expedient if this sound file is a one time use and
will only be in a component, to put it there and leave it.
If it may be used by multiple components, then you could
consider passing it as a var to each. However your component then
is limited because it cannot be contained in a new component
without the new component also exposing this variable to get the
data down to its children. Thus the problem with passing data down
a composition pattern. Add to that the need to get another variable
to a component that is now deep in a composition pattern.
So as I had mentioned a model containing this data might be a
best practice in a MVC architecture.
So I would say more information would be required for me to
make a judgment as to best practice.

  • Web Page Sound File Question

I built a web page years ago with an embedded sound file (.au) which would play when a photo was clicked. The sound would play while the page remained visible. Now when I launch the sound, QuickTime opens a new window with a player interface.
    What has changed?
I'm using Netscape 7.2, but the same thing happens in Safari.
Internet Explorer still works the way it used to with a small QuickTime player bar appearing apart from the Browser.
    Here's the link: http://www.margnat.com/chevette.html
Just click on the picture of the car.

Your problem is that you merely provided a link to the audio file; you didn't embed it in the page at all. The problem is that different browsers on different platforms with different audio players installed handle sound files in different ways. Some browsers will play the sound in the background, some will open a new page and play in a browser plug-in...as a page designer you really have no idea what is going to happen.
For that reason, when I have opted to embed audio in a web page, I usually put the audio file into a QuickTime wrapper so that I can use the QuickTime player plug-in. Here are two pages where I've supplied embedded audio--
    http://capital2.capital.edu/admin-staff/dalthoff/adventures/tr2004/caml01.html
    ...and...
    http://capital2.capital.edu/admin-staff/dalthoff/adventures/tr2006/ussfoma01.htm l
Either way, there is a QuickTime play button embedded on the page. It isn't the most efficient way to deliver audio, nor is it the most platform-agnostic, as it insures that QuickTime will play the clip regardless of the user's preference. But it has the advantage of being consistent: it will ALWAYS play in QuickTime on any browser that supports it.

  • Why can't I hear the sound files in Acrobat Reader on the iPad?

I have created on my main computer pdf files with embedded sound files. When I transfer them into the Adobe Reader on the iPad, the icons are there, but there is no sound. The only option Acrobat Pro XI has is to accept AIFF files. Whereas the guide for Adobe Reader on iPad says that it won't accept AIFF files, only some others, e.g., mp3.
    Reuven

    Thanx, Dave.
This is my Catch 22. Originally, my files were in mp3 format. But Acrobat Pro XI recognizes only AIFF files. So I had to convert my files to AIFF, and as such they work marvelously on my main computer (iMac). The issue at stake is, how can I convince Acrobat Pro XI to recognize and open mp3 files? Indeed, the promotion bla-bla says that Acrobat Pro XI can handle mp3 files, but I could find nowhere instructions how to do this. The pop-up menu in the sound tool window gives only show AIFF files. All the rest are dim.

Is this a Yosemite issue? Not being able to play older QuickTime 7 files properly? I'm not sure what else the issue could be since everything seems to work fine in 10.7, 10.8, and 10.9 (unfortunately, I have been unable to test this in 10.10 or 10.10.1). Maybe I'm overcomplicating a simple issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Some very interesting observations which peaked my own curiosity due to on-again, off-again nature of the playback. I suspect this is either a "bug" or represents content handling changes that are currently in the process of  "evolving." Not a web site programmer so I used iWeb to run some contrast-comparison tests on how audio was handled by the plug-in software when directly accessing the content by its URL and via the page embed strategies. My results mirrored yours in that:
    1) All legacy codecs tested (A-Law, IMA, QDM2, QPV, and u-Law) in an MOV file container played correctly in the QT 7 player.
    2) The same files all played correctly when content was accessed by the plug-in software directly using the URL reference.
    3) None of the files containing legacy audio compression formats would play audio using the plug-in software using a web page embedding strategy.
    4) An MP4 (H.264/AAC) version of you original clip played correctly in all instances.
    5) Replacing your QDM2 audio track with an AAC audio track in the original MOV file allowed the file to play correctly in all instances.
Based on these observations, I suspect the problem is in the way the software is currently programmed to handle (or rather ignore) the embedded strategy content. However, as you indicated, it is probably time to update your files. Not only did the H.264/AAC version of your original file play in all instances, but it used less than 45% of the file space/bandwidth for the settings I employed as compared to your original "0706_split_brain_red.mov" original file.

  • STRANGE problem with sound in SWF files...Please help if you know how...

    Hello,
Okay, so, I recently learned how to use Adobe InDesign to create a book.  there is a lot a still don't know.  When I export my document as a SWF file, it works great and has sound and animations where it should.  However, if I move that SWF to a new location, such as my desktop or uploading it to an e-mail, it looses all the sound information.  To add sound to each page, I added a hidden object to each page that was the sound file so that I could attach it to a button.  It seems that it is loosing that sound file if I move it to a new location.  Any ideas or solutions?

UPDATE:  I have learned that my problem is related to a "resourse folder" which must go wherever the file goes in order for it to have sound.  This is a bit inconvinient for me, as my client is computer illiterate.  I really want to find a way to just embed the sound into a file that you can just open and play.  To the best of my knowlege, SWF format is the only format that allows for the page turning animation.  Does anyone know a way to embed the sound into the SWF file or am I SOL here?

  • Problem, trying to play many sound files

    hello,
I did not find a specific answer to my question in most of the archives and so I am posting here.
my problem is that I have to play a sound when mouse moves over an object and another sound when the same object is clicked.
there are many such items on the screen and so it is expected that when the mouse entered from the mouse listener is fired, the sound must play.
but what really happens is that when the mouse moves over the first object the sound plays all right. but there is no sound played when the mouse click happens.
I have properly loaded the sound files and I am sure that the code is right.
infact the major thing that has frustrated me is that if I move the mouse on an opject (an icon) the sound is properly played. and if I wait for a long time and then move the mouse on another icon the other sound is played as well. but if I move the mouse quickly from one object to another no sound is played for the second object. or if I click the mouse on an icon after a long holt even the click sound playes.
what could be the problem. why is it that sound only play when the actions are done after long haults?
is it an issue of java performance. should I try to do the sound playing stuff in different threads for each icon's mouse events?
I also tried to stop the file on the mouse exit method to make sure that there is no sound left playing.
this game is depending a lot on mouse movements with sounds and so I have to get the sounds playing at the same time mouse moves over the objects.
I use the audioClip to load my sounds with the method in the applet class.
I really don't know abt the latest java media api and will like to know if that is what I must use for my task or audioClip is ok with me.
    thanks
    Krishnakant.

I dont know exactly, but I dont know if applets support various files at one time.
Have your tried to do that with javax.media or with javax.sound.sampled?
Or could your post the code?

  • Using iDVD, I've no problem creating a slideshow, but I want to add three seperate sound files, in this case speeches I've got in iTunes. I want to create three individual buttons/sub menu to access them individually from the photos. Can anyone help

Using iDVD I've no problem creating a slideshow, but am having problems trying to add three seperate sound files in this case three speeches that I hold in iTunes. I want to be able to access them individually and seperately from the photo slideshow. Can anyone advise if this can be done and if it can, how I go about creating the seperate menu and buttons.

If you'd like to integrate the speeches with the slideshow, I'd do that in iMovie where you'll have more control over the timing.  Use chapter markers at the beginning of each speech so the viewer can jump to a particular speech (note that chapter markers advance the viewer to a particular spot -- the viewer keeps watching the rest of the video until the end of everything or until they use the remote's menu button).
If you're just wanting the speeches to be on the DVD so people can listen to the speeches after seeing your slideshow, you could:
    - use iDVD or iMovie to make a "slideshow" with just 1 image matching the length of a speech.
    - create three submenus and use the speeches as menu music.  Here's a (random) video on creating submenus:
